Using OnePlus 7, I have been using android 10 (security update Sep 2019) from date of purchase. I flashed TWRP and stock ROM (which was available when the phone was launched) so that I can root the phone. Later Gpay and other banking apps stopped working, so I unrooted the phone and continue using it.
I have lots of apps on phone... 797 apps and used up 223GB/240GB. The performance has been pretty good... as I have optimized properly, only apps which I require run / run in background ... zero notifications from all those apps... only the ones from apps which are important to me. The battery performance is pretty good... runs whole day for 1 charge.
Facing very minor issues, like Netfilx app doesnt work on my phone (not a big thing for me)... see some other minor issues in some apps due to android 10
Before this, I was using OnePlus 1 and OnePlus 3 .... I have changed ROMs many times on those phones focused on optimized usage...
Is it recommended to upgrade to version 11, 12 or 13? How is the battery life for these versions for Oneplus 7? what other issues are there?
If I have to upgrade to next version? then should I go with Stock ROM or any other ROM?

Since upgrading to lollipop (have tried many roms, from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1, now getting it on Cynaogen OS 12 ) i get really high battery drain because some apps like facebook, sometimes xda keep mobile radio data active until i force close them. Has anyone else noticed this issue or got a clue what might be causing this? Because i was getting this bug on different versions of lollipop with different apps, i think this might rather be a lollipop issue than the fault of apps. I have also tried flashing different modems, nothing helped. I will post screenshots below

I have recently joined the mobile radio battery drain club running latest version of COS12 with the latest incremental update being about 2 weeks ago. since that "update" that was only supposed to fix touch screen issues I have had this radio bug. A full battery life cycle will only afford me 4-5 hours of use..... heavy use is MUCH worse! Like 3-4 hrs....
Anyone hear of a patch/fix/work around? I am also bone stock without root, never rooted, etc..... only stock updates on COS....

Unfortunately it's a core google OS bug and only google can fix it. It'll happen if you use Mobile Data and there's no solution at all. Either switch to KK or pray that they'll fix it on Android M. Or get used to it like me
Yeah, I've just been using battery save mode and this has been very helpful. Although it does effect performance and gets rid of all the fun animations that make lollipop so enjoyable. It's definitely worth having at least 7-8 hours of use. But, I admit even on battery saver mode I'm noticing extreme battery issues start to effect this profile as well.
Crossing my fingers that Google does roll out a fix of some sort bcuz I'm seeing new apps and Google services show up on my battery stats!
So has anybody been looking at this outside of Google? Some of us are developers, after all, and if the bug is in the Android code and not Google Play Services, we should be able to find it. I haven't seen too many attempts, so far...

I have read from a number of people that only Google can fix this problem since it is a low level android bug. And it is also supposedly in the beta versions of android M as well. The only current solution I have found to this problem is to stay on Kitkat. And not buy a phone that comes stock with lollipop (or M) until this problem is fixed, assuming you want the best battery life, since it is likely that there will not be any KK roms available for any new phone.
You can help by starring the issue at https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=165558
As fars as I can tell, the bug should be in code we have access to, so it doesn't have to be Google that fixes it. I've fixed bugs in the Linux kernel before, and it doesn't get any more low level than that...
They have to accept the fix and include it for it to be much use, but that is an entirely separate issue...
Hi everyone!
Looking for stable and light ROM for HTC One S with normal battery life. ROM should NOT be sense-based and should be as vanilla as possible, with least amount of bloatware. Already tried all CM12 builds, battery drains too fast when screen is active and Camera works not so well.
P. S. Don't advice googling for similar threads, they are too old, some things may change since
I'm ok with battery life on latest nightly build.
You can fix camera issues by installing google cam from apkmirror.
Then just to manually change one file to fix low speaker volume and than it's good enought.

Thank you for your reply! My phone gets too hot with that and battery lasts only 2 hours with screen active. That's a disaster:crying:

Yeah. Get used to it. The One S wasn't designed to run 2016 operating systems on 2012 hardware. I gave up on recent Android versions and went with the ME ROM Classic. It's Android 4.2, but the stock camera is unbeatable and it actually keeps apps in RAM (whereas with CM12/13 all RAM was eaten up by system).

I agree .
After 3 years with my phone the best rom is the Me Rom.
Amazing battery life (I'm still with the original battery).
Camera is working great .
And on top , sense 7 launcher .

Hi there,
What is the Most Stable Nexus 5 Nougat (Android 7) Custom ROM?
I try to read the latest post messages, but I don't know.
Thanks
Hey
I've been using Nitrogen OS for the past two months and can tell you that it's a stable ROM.
I've been using Fake Nexus for a while now after going through a few of the available Nougat roms and it's my favourite so far. Comes with Google apps pre-installed plus the new Pixel Launcher, the installation method is similar to flashing a stock image instead of a custom ROM as a zip and an upgrade from Android 6.0.1 worked for me without losing my data, like upgrading a nexus 5x from Android 6.0.1 to Android 7.0.
Also after experimenting a bit and getting the kernel settings right (I am using the blu.spark kernel) I got Multirom working correctly and I have CM13 and NetHunter as secondary roms, fully functional with their own kernels.
I'm pretty sure all the Android 7.0 roms use the same AOSP repo for the main build and only a small handful of customisations. It's a mater of personal preference really, all roms I tested seemed equally stable and had the same bugs (camera video issue etc). I chose Fake Nexus because it's the closest to a factory image and the only one I got working with Multirom side by side with android 6.
My advice, if your Nexus 5 is your daily driver don't use an android 7 rom as your primary rom, the video recording bug alone can be a pain.
Good luck!
Thanks for your feedback.
The video recording bug is still present in all rom ?
What settings did you use for Blu spark
Try Pure Nexus
As far as I know the Camera bug is there for all ROMS when using the stock Google Camera app. A few ROMS claim that using a different app works but personally I haven't tested them. My nexus 5 is not my main device (I have a 5x as well) so I don't use it's camera that much. Also I believe the original android 7 port came from Santhosh M as found on this rom here so if he manages to resolve this then it will be implemented in all other ROMS.
About the blu.spark kernel I installed with all default choices through the Aroma installer except the addition of DT2W. I'm also using kernel adiutor for in-ROM customisations but so far I didn't need to change anything from the defaults.
I was thinking about installing Pure Nexus as well but now that I finally have all 3 ROMS I wanted working I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up. When I added Miui from this thread it messed up all secondary ROMS. I could boot into the main ROM which for me is Android 7.0 but all secondary ROMs would get stuck on the google screen and after about a minute the phone would reboot and go straight into recovery. I think it had something to do with the Miui kernel but I never actually managed to figure it out.
So it's October 23rd, is the video and Camera bug still present on all ROMs?
I use this https://plus.google.com/109509643115521921407/posts/1R42n7pzfbP
It may look sketchy because it's not on XDA but I've been using it and believe me, everything works including Google Camera's video recording.
Previously I was on Nitrogen OS and I loved it because of the OTA updates but I don't like to have to find workarounds for my camera needs.
I've tested most of Nougat ROMs for N5:
Santosh, FakeNexus, PureNexus, NitrogenOS, BOKROM and itigr.
The only real daily driver as of today, Oct 23th is FakeNexus.
The others are good, lots of customization, but too many bugs here and there.
FakeNexus is stable, very battery friendly (some of the list above had battery drain issues) and is the easiest to install and configure, but lacks the customizations of the others.
Nitrogen is the one if you want a ROM with many features with that stock feeling, customization options are integrated on Android configuration menu.
PureNexus also has lots of customization, but on a different approach, it's more like AOSP and customization features are on their app.
Fake Nexus all the way. I used it for 1 day it is very stable rom. NO FC, noticeable lags, etc.
But I need to go back to MM stock because of the battery. Battery drain too fast average use only can hold for 5-6 hours.

I've tried most of these ROMs on my phone and have settled on Fake Nexus. It is very similar to what the Google Pixel set up is and I just love it. I've found it to be very stable on my phone.

I haven't noticed the battery drain on the Fake Nexus ROM at all. In fact, I'm staying with the Nougat ROM because it doesn't have the battery drain that I was experiencing on any of the Marshmallow ones.

hmm odd. some ppl on fake nexus thread say the same (battery drain). maybe not all experiencing it. will try again when have free time
I agree with the Fake Nexus is the most stable one. I do get 3:45min SOT most of the time from 100% down to 1%. I only get 3->3:15 SOT on stock marshmallow. The phone is aggressively used for online gaming via Data using VPN lol
What about the Octo N ROM? So far I've found it to be really good for me with the elemental x kernel, battery life is great, I love my customization options and the ROM is smooth, I typically use lower CPU frequencies max is like 1574 so I don't worry too much about my phone dying. Here's some screenshots of my setup. I'd like to try the fake ROM tho, it's getting really good reviews and I like that.

Fake Nexus doesn't have root option and if you love customization, you will be out of luck.
how about Euclidean OS?
and which roms is odex?
I was just on Fake Nexus, loved the Stock Google feel with all the Pixel gimmicks, but I just went back to Pure Nexus as I love some customization options and want to use Substratum.. Can't stand all the white ui on 7.1 and substratum wasn't working on it yet
Hello all,
It seems like my phone's battery is draining more than it should and I am not sure of the reason why it is. I updated the phone to the most recent update so I am on version 7.1.2.
I've noticed this too today in particular. 100% to 20% in 4 hours. With fairly light usage.
I'm on the 8.0 beta though.
I went from the Beta back to stock but have noticed significant drain over the past week or two and I'm completely stock on 7.1.2, build NJH47B.
Son has the Pixel XL and he's seeing the same thing, anyone have a clue or just a weird coincidence?!
Same issue here, on 7.1.2 , June update. Did a complete wipe, installed w/ magisk and elementalx kernel (no custom settings). Get the impression it's a problem with 7.1.2. i use my phone for work, and this only started happening recently.
I too have this on Android 8, if this is happening on nougat too, it could be a framwork bug or app causing this.

Hey guys. Let's discuss about rooting and custom roms in 2021.
Are you rooted? Why or why not?
Is it safe to use banking apps on a rooted phone?
What is your opinion on the new SafetyNet's hardware attestation?
Is using a custom rom still worth it?
- Rooted last week, first device not rooted on zero day.
- Unlocked and changed rom for horrific battery drain in Android 11.0.4.4 and performance issue since OOS11. Rooted for Adaway, replacing system apps from the rom
- all banking apps working (india)
- My opinion does not matter
- 2 times charging daily vs 1 time charging in 1.5 day, freezing UI in social app vs playing COD continuously without issue , yeah it is worth. Missing long screenshot little bit though
