Android 13 Pixel Experience custom rom
Is there a way to enable/add/install the android file picker?
I discovered this issue when I tried copying or moving pics in Aves Gallery app. It asked me to grant permission to access the destination folder of the copy/move process. But instead of opening the default Android file picker app, it said Android file picker is either disabled or missing.
I tried different gallery apps from play store and this same issue still exists.
How do I fix this?

Install a file manager such as Root Explorer.
You can also install Files by Google.

Hello,
I rooted my TF 700 and upgraded to JB, delete loads of rubbish, now the tablet flies. However I got a problem with gallery app:
It dose not show any of the images I copied to tablet, the pictures I took from camera shows up the gallery but other images I copied do no show up.
I tried different galley apps all got the same problem, I tried media rescan app as well did not solve the problem.
Just wandering anyone got any ideas?
You help is much appreciated.
How did you copy the images, and into which folder? Do the files show up in the file manager at the expected location (/sdcard/Pictures usually)?

I copy the files into the same folder as where camera images stores, yes the files show up in file manager and I can open it.

You need to copy to your picture folder (/sdcard/Pictures).
Try rebooting the device. Android does a media scan when booting up, and it should pick up the new pictures at that point.

Installing one app, does not replace another app. If it is a newer version of the same app, then it will update the old one.
You can install all the file explorers you find on the play store, and you will have all of them installed at the end and they won't replace each other.
The only solution is to uninstall the app you don't want. In your case: My Files.
But My Files is a system app (talking about a samsung tw rom?) and you can't uninstall it normally. You are rooted so you can uninstall it. Use an app like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp
There are many more like it.
Beware though, if you uninstall critical system apps, your phone might not work properly any more. Make sure you know what you're doing.
And also, you won't be able to remove some apps for various reasons.
Edit: One other way to remove system apps is to use a browser like Root Explorer or Root Browser, navigate to the location: /system/app or /system/priv-app and remove the app from there. But again: USE CAUTION!!
Cheers
Replace apps
thank you for your reply.
i know how to uninstall system apps with my rooted phone. now let me explain to you my real problem.
i have some files which i want hidden. now the ES Explorer does the task and requires password to show hidden files . BUT anyone can see them using the option in "my files" that is "show hidden files" . Hence it is an application that nulls the security enhancement provided by the ES file Explorer:crying:.
so i thought that i should uninstall the "my files" app but when i did this, other apps like Camera and Gallery stopped working and i had to re-install the "my files" app.
But i have seen custom Roms in which one or two stock apps are replaced by other advanced apps. Can you tell me the process?

Unfortunately no. I do not know all the dependencies between apps. And I don't think you can change dependencies for an app. These are hardcoded inside the app itself. As an example, I have a galaxy s4 and use custom ROMS based on cyanogenmod. It's impossible to have the camera app from the stock Samsung rom because of the dependencies required for the app to run.
I think you need to find a different approach. Try maybe protecting them somehow instead of hiding them
Good luck
My phone is a Blu Pure XL and rooted.
So I guess I made a slight mistake with wanting to get rid of the stock Calendar app because I just disliked it. Maybe should have just disabled it or something instead. I did a factory reset on it and somehow or another the Calendar app reappeared again. But I am still getting the issue where it shuts down because of the Calendar Storage not being installed anymore (Whoops). I looked online elsewhere and cannot find any apk. Help would be nice! I have tried with reinstalling the app as well and that does no good, I am assuming because it has nothing to do with the app, but rather Android itself.
I don't know if there is just that part I can install through TWRP or something? I know there is an apk app in the Play Store, APK Manager Downloader I believe, that allows you to save apks onto your SD card to send to others. Maybe that would download the apk files from the Pure XL calendar app, then it could be uploaded to this page and I could download and install it.
Resolution!
I was able to find a link (download.apks.org/?apkid=com.android.providers.calendar&ver=5.1.1-981c9024fa&server=darkkiller) for Lollipop 5.1+ Calendar Storage APK. Somebody helped me out on Google+.
You need Link2SD and ES File Explorer and the zip file you downloaded from above (DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE)
I saved the zip to my internal storage, opened the zip in ES File Explorer, and installed the APK in the zip. After that you will have a pop up where you can install. So install the Calendar APK.
Once that has finished, head on over to Link2SD and you should be able to find Calendar Storage. Tap on that then in the top right menu select "Convert to system app". You will have to reboot your phone after after that completes.
This should resolve your issues!
If you are running 4.4.4 and need Calendar Storage APK: (download.apks.org/?server=12&apkid=com.android.providers.calendar&ver=4.4.4-a1d45e8141)
Hi guys! I have an Xperia Z3 D6633 running on official Android version 6.0.1 with build number 23.5.a.1.291 rooted. My problem is that almost 5.0 GB of my internal storage is consumed by ".thumbnails" folder which I want to delete. I have searched some solutions and found out that normally people get some free space till these files reappear and in the mean time they can make this space useful but the case is different here. I have tried to delete this folder and all the containing files but even though the folder disappears for some time, I still don't get any free space even for a short time and the files start to reappear after some time. I don't have any Gallery other than the Album app and as it cannot be deleted, I have tried disabling but the problem still remains. I have also tried creating a new folder with the same name but the system would rename it to ".thumbnails 1" and another folder with the name ".thumbnails" would reappear . I had the same problem also with Lollipop on this device. I use FILE KOMMANDER, it is the system app.
Any help is highly appreciated.
Try MiXplorer from XDA (file commander isnt so good) then delete the .thumbs folder
Try Ccleaner from play store
Try SD Maid from play store
Try clearing data from Settings - apps - Media Storage (all your media will appear to be gone. It is still there but the phone wont see it until you reboot / download and run Media.re.scan from play store)
I wouldn't really know what else to suggest other than a clean install of your ROM even if it is stock as this seems like a bug

thumbnails folder store preview for all of your photos that you see on your gallery app (taken w camera or from whatsapp), if you want a smaller folder, transfer some pics to your pc or go cloud with google photos

FYI .thumbnails folder will always exist to make android media work properly, easiest method is delete those folder (.thumbnails) then create file named .thumbnails
In my case I'm using es file explorer, best file manager ever for me
You should accept all consequences, app that using photo preview from Android Media will not show or buggy (ie. Instagram, Facebook)

Try using ApkExport to make an installable copy on a device that has it installed on.
APK Export (Backup & Share) - Apps on Google Play
Manage and extract your apps.

I thought about it but honestly i don't want to flash rom for few minutes just to get back on my current and set up device again. If there is no other way then maybe that would be the only option
