Hello all,
Looking for some help with my contacts app not syncing and only allowing me to save contacts to my device. When I try to sign into my Google account in the app it just tells me I am already signed in even tho it won't show my profile or any contacts. I have tried clearing the app storage for contacts and reinstalling my Google account but that did not work. I also factory reset the phone and for a while the contacts app worked but then it broke again. I am not exactly sure when it broke but my phone is magisk rooted and I suspect maybe it was after I installed the UNSF module and cleared storage from Google play and Google services and rebooted? Have been searching around for a fix but haven't been able to come up with one yet so appreciate any suggestions.

Do you have less than 10% of free storage by any chance?

This happens to me sometimes. I usually just backout of messages, and go back in and it works fine. Hasn't hapened for a few days though.
Happens to me ALL the time...
Yeah from my searching it's been happening to all of us at one point or another. I usually delete my facebook account from the phone and re-add them. Pics come back.
Here is the fix - you probably ran permission fix in CWM. This is one of the results...
Go into Applications - Manage applications
Go to ALL applications tab
Scroll down to Contacts Storage and click it.
Clear its data
Scroll down to Market
Clear data
Open market - accept agreement
Resync your contacts. This only erases the picture cache not your numbers. It gets corrupted when you run permission checks in CWM.
I had this same problem, it wasn't storing the picture right in the SMS app, and other apps like LauncherPro weren't able to pull any of the contact pictures. I also had it not syncing my Facebook picture with my local contact (which I find annoying).
What I did is added the Facebook for HTC Sense account, and let this sync. When I installed the FB app I told it to not sync anything.
Now everything is working great.
Well my problem was due to the cwr and cuz I was saving contact to the phone and not to Google ! How can I have saving to Google default

Second of all, don't ever save your contacts on your phone, that's what google sync is for. When you start restoring saved contacts and letting google sync run, you're creating a huge mess.
In your case I would clean up the contacts on google, then wipe your phone (not restoring any contacts saved on the phone) so that everything you have on google is what you have on the phone.
I did this a while back, and have been happy ever since.

Absolutely agree with you. After I rooted, i dont know what I did, but after i rooted, all my facebook contacts ended up on my phone. )And no, I didnt tell the facebook app to sync all) I think i added the google account and facebook accounts too fast and then hosed it up when it brought up suggested linked contacts. I just went to Google contacts, cleaned what i didnt want, made some changes to other contacts, cleared contact storage data, and had them all back how i like less than 2 minutes later. and i still had facebook for htc sense setup and it had everybody synced in about 5 minutes. been perfect ever since.
Hi, Well this appears to be a regular problem with almost all un-rooted Android users. Still, in case anybody could help me out with removing one of my Google App account from HTC Desire S, without actually resetting it. I think there is some way.
I added my third google account, synced it once with Gmail app, later, unchecked the Auto sync button and clicked on Remove account. I was successfully able to remove it. If that can be removed, the first one can also be. Its just that I need to clear some apps cache for this. If any one from XDA (big brainy people) can help us out on this.
Try clearing gmail, talk, and Google account manager
Swyped from a primed Desire S
AFAIK, the account that was used first in initializing the device, can be removed by factory reset only. This is what the phone writes when you're trying, right?

Ya, thats what the phone says. But I registered two google account on it. One professional one personal. it does not allow me to delete any of those. However, when I registered a third account, I could remove that one easily.

Hi,
I am trying the steps as told by you. Lets see if this works.
Gmail: Cleared
Talk: Cleared
Google Play: Cleared
Google Service Framework: Cleared
Cannot find anything like Google Account Manager in the app list.
Kindly help. There is no particular way on this whole internet. lol
I although tried it once in different ways but there was no way to delet the first account. In the end I did a factory reset.
Sorry, but I think it´s the only and fastes way to get the phone clean.
first email account
It does not matter which email account you use Gmail, Yahoo, GMX etc. You can only delete it by doing a factory reset. The first email you enter becomes embedded on the phone.
Thank you guys for your replies. Can you also suggest something I need to take care of before doing a factory reset.

Backup your contacts(if not synced with Google) and SMS using 'super backup'
You are not rooted so can't think of anything else that you could do.
Swyped from my Desire S waiting for Kernel 3, WAKE UP HTC

Absolutely no use to the OP as it requires Root access to work - and he doeasn't have that on his phone
I just had to re-enter a bunch of appointments on my google calender because they ended up previously on this other calendar (which seems to be phone only, so perhaps it's an Xperia thing, or maybe it's a hangover from some other system I've used in the past, although I doubt it because i've not logged into any other calendar systems on my Z3).
I can disable it from within the google calender app, so hopefully it would cause any more trouble, but I'd like to get rid of it. I've disabled the original (sony?) calender app but it's not removed this option.
Does anyone else have this? You can see it by running the Google calendar app and dragging the left edge of the screen right. You can remove it from here in settings, but it's still available in settings. I want it gone!
Syncml-orphaned driving me mad

I have the same problem. Tried deleting and reopening to no avail. Contemplating deleting my google account altogether and starting from scratch.
Calendar has recently been chewing a lot of battery on my Z3C, and I've noticed that I also now have a syncml-orphaned calendar appearing. Anyone else found this in recent times?
Has this been solved? One year later I still have the same problem, even on newer Sony Xperia phones
Well, I think I have found a way: Using TitaniumBackup I have performed WIPE DATA on Calendar Storage and Calendar. This has fixed the syncml-orphaned problem for me.
Of course, for this to work you have to have Root.

This worked for me without TitaniumBackup:
Clear data of the app ‘Calendar Storage’. As this is a system app, you need to activate ‘Show system’ in the app list.

It means that I logging in with my gmail? Yes I logged on my gmail when I opened the browser. And I sync my mail to my phone so I can opened my mail on my phone cause I need it for my job. May I prevent those apps from downloading with logging out my gmail on my browser? Or I need to unsync my gmail to my phone too? I'll appreciate your help.
Hi.
Recently bought my Pixel 4A and did all the necessary installs etc.
I realised it was long time since I had cleared unwanted/ unnecessary contacts from account.
After doing so I noticed something.
The dialer or Phone app still shows old contacts in the app.
I have tried clearing the apps data.
Removed Google account added back too.
Updated to latest phone app and still no joy.
Anyone else facing this issue and found a solution??
Please share..
I'm on Stock A 11.
It might be possible those contacts are stored in your SIM card.

Checked it out. No contacts in SIM card.
Noticed that the contacts I deleted were there in bin folder. Deleted them, cleared cache for the app and restarted phone. Still no joy..
If you log into your gmail/google account from a browser, are those contact in there?

Nope. It is confirmed these are deleted.
Try doing a "Clear Call History" from within the phone app.
And try clearing the data for the "messages" (SMS) app (caution this will probably delete all your sms messages)

Done both still no joy.
Logged off from other phones as well. Still not working.!!
Is there any other app you installed that you gave contacts permission to?
Also, you can have more then one "phone book". So maybe these zombie contacts are in them.
Also, what happens if you go into the contacts app and manually try to delete one of these contacts?

I've deleted my contacts using web browser online. When using the contacts app on phone it is showing same data as online i.e 164 contacts.
But however phone app has a contacts section which ia showing all the deleted contacts too.
Don't know why or where is ut fetching them from.
I was of the opinion that phone app gets its data from contact app.
But clearly something else is happening
