I HAVE SAMSUNG S21PLUS MODEL NO SM-G996U IN 2023 STILL WORKING ON ANDRIOD 11 AND I WANT TO UPDATE TO ANDRIOD 13 BUT AUTO UPDATE IS NOT COMING
I TRIED IT DOING IT MANUALLY FROM SAM MOBILE WHERE THERE ARE TWO UPDATE AVAILABLE FROM SM-G996U1 SHOULD I USE THAT FIRMWARE OR ONLY SM-G996U WOULD WORK ?
One's carrier unlocked, one's AT&T.
Either version will work on AT&T except you might lose vid calling with the U1 version.
I would stay on 11... personally I'll never go beyond 10 on my N10+'s. Zero trust in Gookill.
G996U is any US carrier's phone, not just AT&T. My T-Mobile S23+ is an SM-G996U. (and it remains a 996U even after is's unlocked)

I am sure we may need to wait for Friday or what not, but does anyone know if T-Mobile will be selling a custom OP7Pro with a custom modem so you cannot grab updates directly from OP as they did with the OP6T? Just trying to figure out if I can get from T-Mobile and be good or have to go direct with OP.
Thanks in advance.
Ps. I did see the other thread on the modem channels, but didn't know if that was related to my question. As I just want to ensure the phone I get can be fully supported by OP and not just my carrier for future software updates.
OnePlus told me there is only one variant of the OP7Pro globally. via chat and email
Like previous OnePlus devices that have been on T-Mobile. The firmware is the only difference outside of the second SIM holding being filled. Cutting it out or using a tray with dual-SIM's and the non-T-Mobile firmware will enable dual-SIM. The modem only differs by firmware. Band 71 is available to devices with the T-Mobile modem firmware installed. This firmware can be installed on the Global version as well. Once the devices fully launch, expect ROM's to start popping up with enabled dual-SIM for the T-Mobile version and Global versions with the T-Mobile modem firmware.
Okay thank you both for your comments. Glad they are not doing the hardware differences this time around. I just know from forums that the T-Mobile variant of the OP6T is slow to get updates when compared with the international version due to the custom modem. I am not too worried about the second sim, don't travel much. But unlocking the additional modem channel would be nice on the international version of OP7Pro. I think I have the details I need for my decision. I will do the international version from OnePlus direct to limit the delays on software updates. Then just watch for mods to upgrade the modem firmware to work better with T-Mobile.

Will we even need the T-mobile firmware for band 71? The review that GSMArena put out said that they were able to use band 71 fine with their review device. I would think that the devices that Oneplus sends out to journalists would be the unlocked version.

More than likely, no. Swapping out the modem firmware for the slightly tuned version though, is something some on T-Mobile will want to do. Most journalists received the 12GB/256GB unlocked global version. T-Mobile likes to tune their radio firmware for devices sold by them. If you look at the Galaxy or Note lines from Samsung. The S9's and Note 9 support band 71 on the U1 non-carrier specific firmware, but also do on the TMB U T-Mobile specific firmware. The difference is, carrier aggregation in the modem firmware. Ultimately, it isn't a big difference, as a former S9 Plus and Note 9 owner that has tried multiple firmware on each.
We tried swapping modem.imgs it doesn't work. Causes mismatch and won't boot. And once u convert a tmo OnePlus u get ota's. No one will want the tmo software cuz it usually is missing every cool extra.. and they push it with an Android 6 about phone menu..blah.
Anyone know what the difference between the two? Or if there is a differenc e at all. I am on ATT network in US.
Carrier unlocked U and factory unlocked U1
U is for the carrier variants in the US. U1 is for the factory unlocked version which you buy directly through Samsung. Even though unlocked, the U model will have a carrier logo when booting up. If you want true unlock, go for U1.
Can I flash N986u1 firmware to my galaxy n986u ? Will i loose esim feature? I want to do because I am not getting 5G and also ota updates
If you flash a note 20 (or other Samsung phones with Knox for that matter), you'll permanently blow an efuse which removes some phone features like Android Pay. I didn't think that the esim feature was one of those features but I'm not totally sure on that.
Guys, i need a fully support arabic language
For
SM-N986U
should i change to U1?
its already unlocked phone with Verizon
so any sim is working
but the 5G is not working
AND a full arabic is not there.
if i changed to U1 will i get a full arabic lanaguage? ?

As for 5G with Verizon, check the coverage map in great detail! Unfortunately, you may find that it just doesn't currently exist where you're testing. I've had Verizon Reps (at multiple stores) argue with me that 5G coverage did exist in areas and eventually find/admit they were wrong.
After doing my own research on Verizon coverage, I've found that their 4G LTE coverage is very good, but their 5G coverage is pretty much only in (5G mmWave) and around (5G UW) big cities and even spotty in those locations. When Verizon claims they have "Nation Wide 5G", think of coverage which looks kinda like a chain link fence. Verizon is spending much money to fix this lately, so hopefully it will improve quickly.
For the time being, I've abandoned Verizon for T-Mobile because of its indisputably superior 5G coverage in the US.
N986U vs N986U1: As for switching to a U1, I'd say don't. I have an N986U and my wife has an N986U1 and I get Android updates much more quickly on my U and she does with her U1. It's weird but true.
Hello, I am using a OnePlus 7 model GM1901 (Indian model). I am using it in the USA with AT&T. As long as it was running OOS10 AT&T would recognize my phone, even though they did not technically support it. Once I upgraded to OOS11 it no longer was recognized. Clearly this is a software issue, but I am not sure where to look to address it. Rolling back to OOS10 (beta) worked.
On a related note, AT&T is moving to 4g and is going to stop supporting the GM1901 model in Feb. 2022, but they will support the GM1904. Is there any way to bypass this restriction. They have almost all the same bands.
Thank you!
I hope everyone is doing well.
I am not that tech savvy, and have been having trouble getting calls on this A53 5G that I recently purchased off eBay....
Do you know if all A53 5G's have VoLTE support? I need VoLTE enabled for T-Mobile. I can only get calls when I select 3g/2g, which is no good since T-Mobile is shutting that off. When I have selected 5g/4g/3g/2g or 4g/3g/2g I can only make calls and not receive them. A circle with a backslash shows up at the signal bars icon.
Would someone be able to explain how to enable it please?
I do not have the option through Mobile Networks.
I tried to use that samsungband app, but there was no option there either.
I tried to use the *#9090# code too, and then I see what I attached in the images.
Then I don't know what to do further.
I assumed that it does support VoLTE based on Samsung's website, but I have a global version. I think it's from Taiwan.

Thank you for any time and help.
I think I'll be returning the phone, but if somehow I can get it to work...that would be great.
It does have volte yes. About phone > status > sim > mobile voice network type is listed as lte (which equals volte).
I'm aware some are having phone related issues supposedly with the July update. It you don't yet have the July update then it just some people have that issue then for whatever reason lol. Maybe its some sort of settings combination bug but its difficult to say.
I have seen the bars disappear but come back on display wake. But that's the extent of anything there. I receive calls just fine. Haven't updated to July update as of yet though.
Thank you, sansofmyst, for your reply.
I did go through with the July 1 update once I got the phone, but I never tested it out before making that update....
Do you know what this security update is...is the update from Samsung...is there a website that says they know there is a problem and will fix it?

You can look up the update info from browsing to settings > software update > last update. That also includes a link to Samsung's update database where on Google you can use "site:" on it and ie A53 and see when all models are getting updates and their info, etc.
The updates are pulled in relation to the sim card carrier. So if you had a different carrier then it gets pulled in relation to that carrier. Its kind of weird that way with unlocked models and Samsung
So, editing as I looked into that further. The carriers do their own locked models. Samsung does the updates on unlocked but in relation to the carriers which is opposite of what one expects. Custom rom works around that where possible.

The reports for July and A53 are scattered around. Other Samsung phones with July update also had similar if not the same issue with fixes expected in Aug update. You could ask Samsung directly. I don't know anything further.

Thank you so so much!!!!!
Hello, im using a5360 bri Taiwan edition and it was july security patch that broke phone calls for me on Tmobile. Thankfully August security patch has fixed the issue. Im able to make phone calls and receive them on 4glte with hd voice. Haven't found the option to switch volte on or off. I will check the forums from now on, for future security updates or os upgrades with issues before installing. Have a good day or night. <;
Thank you so much for your help and suggestions about checking feedback for updates! Do you mean the xda forums?
Thanks for confirming what I thought was one of the issues since one of the Samsung representatives mentioned possible issue with update, but for other phones...and that they did not have a date for the fix at the time.
I did not get to try the new update since it was unavailable before my product return date. Sigh, so I returned it before it was too late. I got the USA version with lower ram and memory =/ It still said volte weak cell signal when using that code, but it works on 5g and call this USA version.
I mean Samsung and xda forums or any that discuss the a53 specifically.
I haven't checked that code. I get 5g almost everywhere in h-town. Now im seeing that more consistently after the update. I turn that off on the go though to gain some extra battery life. 4glte works well enough 3 to 5 bars everywhere too.
i thought about getting the unlocked US version cause of the issue too. Recent flaships start with 8gigs ram. thats my logic for getting this model and i haven't been able to fill it completely yet based on my usage no social media or gaming. Everything else i use.
Once software support 4yrs os and 5yrs security is done. I'll consider another upgrade. next patch if i see an issue on any forums with network or phone calls, I'll leave it alone. Im in awe how smooth this phone performs. upgraded from note 3 tmobile edition. Only issue for myself was the broken phone calls.

They are essentially the same device. I Odin back and forth between the U and U1 roms. Whichever comes in with the latest update. I prefer the U1 as theres no carrier crapware. I have never been able to ascertain if there's any advantage being on the U, or if it gives any data or signal priorities with my carrier.

The US 908U1 models generally get updates after the U models. At least on Verizon they do. I have the S908U and my daughter has the U1 version of the S22 (we're both on Verizon). I normally get updates about a week or two before she does.
But U series are carrier specific models and U1 are unlocked versions....ur daughter might be getting updates earlier as she got an unlocked variant which gets updates first as compared to U models as service providers alter the software update before rolling them out i guess
Can anyone help me out why my network selction option in greyed out on automatic....
Can't change it and my network keeps fluctuating between 4G and 5G and its killing my phone's battery way faster now

Nope. She's gets hers about a week or two after me. For the past few years, Verizon has been pushing updates quicker.
As for locked. My phone is unlocked too. Verizon unlocks its branded devices after 60 days.
