Question Electromagnetic interference when using a DAC - Google Pixel 6a

I have three DACs: JCALLY JA21, CX-Pro CX31993 and Audirect Atom2.
JCALLY JA21 has always worked well. Until recently, CX-Pro CX31993 and Audirect Atom2 could not be used because I was constantly hearing crackling.
The December update came out and I was hoping that I would be able to use at least CX-Pro CX31993, simply because its form factor is more convenient. But, although there is no more crackling, I still hear extraneous noise, I was able to Google something similar by the name "static noise". The sound in this video is very similar to what I hear:
Is it possible to fix it somehow? Or maybe you know a DAC with which there are no such problems

[Q] microphone broken ?

i opened my new transformer yesterday and loaded skype. tried voice chat and no-one could hear me. the sound recorder app shows slight movement if i tap the case where the microphone is, but bellowing into it shows no reaction. external headset mic works fine.
Is there some setting for input levels i hav'nt found yet? I would hate to be missing something obvious. Or should i just send it back
I think the built in microphone may be crap, I have fantastic results with voice recognition on my phone with a very small margin of error in recognition, on the transformer, the recognition is terrible.
I hope that it is a software issue where the settings can be changed to increase sensitivity.
If someone has a solution, please let us know.
update
the blue security tabs on the box were open, i thought my wife had opened it to check when delivered but she hadnt. I have sent it back to amazon and they are sending me a new one first class post, fair enough, it did seem a little second hand on close inspection. hopefully mic will work on the new one.
thanks
I had the same issue when I got mine, the mic was completely useless. After I rooted and installed Prime v1.4 everything works fine. Im assuming its an issue like the speaker imbalance where there is just an incorrect value somewhere in the code for mic gain or volume
Yeah, mine is crap too. I keep trying to do voice search to no avail.
I love this device, but man, it looks like they picked some really cheap parts for some items. Both my microphone and light sensor are not nearly sensitive enough to be usable, it's almost like they are just there to pad the spec sheet.
I find this so annoying, because previously I had a Nook color that I sold off because I wanted a true tablet, one with real Android support and such niceties as GPS, camera, microphone, light sensor, vibrating mechanism and notification LED that the Nook didn't have since it was designed as a e-book reader.
Now I find the Transformer has no LED (at least Nook had one on the cable), no vibration, light sensor and microphone that may as well not be there...
update
well i returned it saturday morning. new one arrived monday afternoon. great service amazon. anyway microphone works fine on this one so im happy everything else seems to be working ok so will see how i get on with it
when I record my voice in high quality I hear something like :
chchchichchch chchilly chchentenches and chcho bad chchound*
*(six silly sentences and a so bad sound)
I don't think it is a microphone problem, cause even with a half dollar microphone, sound can be better, no?
mic technology has not changed much in a while...its a commodity part that is bound to be afflicted by quality control and configuration...since there's an issue with the speakers it might also signal an issue with the Mic config

I think I agree.
If I put my mouth right next to the microphone, it will record my voice in an audible manner though not amazing quality. But it's not good enough for like voice searching or typing, not on my Transformer at least.

did you try to record your voice? the result is like under the water and the "s " sounds like "chchch ".
I tried a stereo bluetooth headphone with microphone integrated and the microphone isn't recognized. did somebody else notice the same.
the only satisfying way to chat or record with a correct sound is to use ordinary headphones with Microphone and it's not practical.

I did try to record my voice, that's how I arrived at that conclusion! Previously I had only tried to do voice inputs and failed, and just assumed my microphone was totally broken.
If I speak right into the microphone, then I can hear my voice okay... it's not distorted, just not amazingly clear. But this isn't really feasible, unlike a phone it's pretty hard to talk right into a tablet's microphone.
I haven't tried pairing Bluetooth headphones since mine broke before I bought the Transformer, but it should work for the microphone as well. You should check the Bluetooth settings page and make sure your Bluetooth headset is set to use both media and headset profiles, you need both to get audio playback and recording.

Ah, no clue then, sorry.
I was big on Bluetooth headphones but recently gave up on them as I found them too much hassle to use. Now I have a USB headset for the computer, it's great except that it won't work on Android.

on my laptop I use integrated microphone. works perfectly. on EEE pad I could use ordinary headset that works OK but imagine each time somebody wants to chat with you, finding your headphones , disentangle the wires and then answer. I confirm we live in the 18th century

We should all put some video on Youtube showing the microphone quality recording for example on 44'000 sample rate. This would make people think before buying that crap, and maybe ASUS will try to change that.
I'm really furious about Microphone quality. voice search is impossible and chat is really hard
I was using spashtop and tried teamspeak to test the mic. No one heard anything. When I used my bluetooth stereo headset and mic, it was fine. I have not tested further and am not sure if that was a spashtop thing or the mic completely failing, but since seeing this thread, I guess I should check it.
I swear the mic almost seems like it's been fixed in 8.4.4.11 update.
I just did a test using the built in voice recorder app, and speaking at a normal distance it recorded my voice pretty well!
Voice search still seems less than perfect compared to my Android phone, not sure why this is. But the mic itself is now recording sounds as well as one can expect of any mobile device.

Are you running on Stock ROM?
for me there is no difference of quality. try google search with a wired headset and you'll see how it is running fine.

[Q] Stereo balance issue with wired headphones

Hello there!
Recently I have encountered a strange issue with the wired headphone stereo balance. The volume on the left side is as expected, but audio on the right channel is all but inaudible. It´s there, but extremely quiet. If I set the volume to maximum, audio on the right ramps up to being listenable (with what would usually be a low to low medium volume setting)...while the left is blazing like crazy, of course.
Using a stereo test MP3 (ping pong sounds, basically), I could verify that the channel seperation is correct, just to rule out that it´s a headphone jack/plug problem (i.e. the plug making no contact with the correct connectors inside the jack). Or, to put it simply, both audio channels do indeed get to the correct side of the headphone, just not enough on the one side.
I have no idea what could have caused this. Stereo balance was definitly working correctly the one time I tried wired headphones on the stock ASUS ROM, way back before I unlocked, rooted and installed custom ROMs. I haven´t tried it since, until a couple of days ago and that´s when I noticed.
Things I´ve tried since then:
- Dozens of different headphones, headsets, adapter cables. All show the same problem.
- Tried to clean out the headphone jack as best as possible.
- I even filed down the tip of one plug a bit to maybe get a better connection, but the connection itself doesn´t seem to be the problem.
- Factory resets, full wipes, different ROMs (stock, CM, CROMi).
- Different audio DSPs.
- A LOT of audio related apps (Volume+, EQs...)
- Audio players with built in balance control. These do indeed shift the stereo image to the right side, but don´t make the right channel itself louder, which results in a very quiet, kinda mono-y, hollow-y sound at normal volume levels.
I am assuming there is a hardware problem, and I assume it´s not the headphone jack itself, but something else in the circuitry.
I really, really, really don´t want to RMA the thing, since it took me *weeks* of discussion with ASUS support to get it unlocked in the first place (wasn´t able to, due to the infamous MAC/server mismatch thingie), and I don´t want to get it back with a new mainboard and perma-locked.
So, my questions are: What else can I try? Is there a way to boost the one faulty audio channel? Maybe by editing some system file or writing a script or something?
I´m unlocked, rooted and running CROMi-X 4.3b4 now (which is going to be great, once it matures, btw).
Thanks!

Has anyone else had sound quality issues with Bluetooth telephony?

Hi everyone,
I have been experiencing what I would describe as an "audio glitch problem" when using my Nexus 5 paired with my 2011 Toyota Prius.
Streaming audio via the A2DP profile works great -- sound quality is excellent, no problems have been detected.
Unfortunately telephony is problematic. This happens on 100% of phone calls and only when I am paired to my Prius. It sounds like a buffer management problem, it's as though the person I am talking to "skips a beat". It could be that a buffer gets repeated twice. Whatever is happening is very annoying, it makes carrying on a conversation very difficult.
I made a post in Google's forums and one other person reported a similar problem.

Question Microphone muffled/bassy sound

I just got the feedback from several people that they hear me very muffled/bassy via Telegram/WhatsApp Video Call. I used the recorder and took a sample to verify the issue. I think compared to my OnePlus 6 the microphone quality is very bad. I already had issues on my OnePlus 6 that used the wrong (rear) Microphone in Teams for conferences and I'm kind of disappointed there is an issue with the mic again. Did you test your mic and what is your experience so far?
You are the first one reporting that problem. Maybe you have a connected bluetooth device? My call audio quality has been nothing but excellent
No I don't have connected anything via bluetooth.
Did you check for any application which may have influence on your microphone? Maybe it got transferred from the OnePlus 6.
The only app that interacts with the Mic is Spectroid but it does not run as service. I don't think any software is causing it. Telegram, Whatsapp, Calling App also use the Mic of course. I reinstalled also Telegram.
A friend thinks that on whatsapp the sound is better than on telegram. But I don't know if it is subjective opinion.
Your losing the higher frequencies which need a direct audio pathway more than the lower ones.

Headset mic adjustment app or Magisk module for Xiaomi phone (and not only)

If you put a search string "problem mic headphones" in XDA forums, you'll get tens if not hundreds of threads which start at least in 2015 and consider Xiaomi as well as Samsung, OnePlus, sometimes Moto phones - both on vendor and custom OS. Most of the threads are created in model specific subforums and most of them are left unanswered, even though the issues repeat from time to time, from one manufacturer to another. If I catch it correctly, Xiaomi (Redmi, Mi) is the champion in this field. But problems persist in other phones too.
One of the biggest issues often reported is that one day (or from the very beginning) when you put headset jack in, your interlocutor hears you badly. Your voice is too weak or ambient noise is too loud in respect to your speech. In many cases a proposed solution is 1) to install Mic Fix module for Magisk (on rooted phones). But it does not always work. 2) To change the headset and 3) to clean the physical jack hole. In many reported cases this does not help neither. So, there is a software switch which does not work.
I entered the club and having this precise issue with my Redmi Note 10 Pro running first on vendor Miui then on CrDroid 8. I changed three different wired headsets, including the one by Xiaomi, with no result. Installed Mic Fix module for Magisk (both latest updates), with no effect.
Manipulating the phone during the call or during a test record (bringing it closer and further to the mouth, putting it into my pocket with headset attached, etc.), I acknowledged that the problem is that the phone takes inbound audio signal from the phone built-in microphone and not from the headset. Both in mobile calls and in various messengers. Meanwhile listening to my interlocutors, as well as music alone is just fine.
Trying to solve the issue I found several great apps and Magisk modules, such as Dolby Atmos and Viper4Android FX equalizers which enhance your listening experience. But I found no clearly designated app or module which lets take control of the microphone when headset is attached. Literally no dedicated app or feature in all-rounder apps lets tweak the mic use. Meanwhile the issue persists during at least 7 years.
Maybe the solution is so evident, and the app/module is so easily and widely used that it's a shame to discuss such a noob topic? Please break the silence and tell which tools you use for tuning or tweaking your mic in the headset.
And if you already faced the same or a similar problem and found the same (zero) software solution for Android, what is the rational reason why such an app or module was not yet made by an expert and creative dev?
By now a solution that I found is to use a bluetooth headset. In this case the mic works well during calls.
But I like using wired headsets (and sound quality of mine wired is better than those on bluetooth). So I am still in search for an app or module to tweak or fix the mic redirection issue.
If someone can help, please be kind to give a hint.
Same here my man, and although my issue is slightly different, it's looking for the same solution, an app to tweak the mic
I'm using a oneplus 3 and my favorite ROM is Resurrection Remix (A10), but, if you use CTIA headsets (mine are earbuds because i don't like in-ear), sometimes the headset gets detected as OMTP and the mic produces a really loud hight pitch noise
So far i haven't found any solution, besides reconnecting the headset several, several times until it gets it right
