Hello friends,
I'm in the same boat as many of you -- I purchased several Note 5's new from Verizon and then learned that they are not readily rootable....which prevents me from using their full functionality. Irritating.
I have a decent amount of experience with software development/reverse engineering/breaking things/making things work...but I've never messed around with phone firmware before. Usually I connect directly to the hardware chips via JTAG or similar to dump/upload the modified images. I don't really want to crack these sealed phones open though... surely there must be a way to dump/image the phone via the data port? I've read that Note 5 for other carriers are rootable, so how does dumping/uploading bins work for them? What is different about Verizon's model? Are they requiring digitally signed bins? Also I've seen a few people mention Knox....if Knox is tripped does it blow a fuse or can it be reset?

Samsung Knox gets tripped and effectively bricks the device the second it detects root. It blows a fuse. Dead phone.
If you have to ask this question then rooting is not something you need! =D Coming from rooting every phone for the past 5 years, I haven't had a need to root this phone. Granted there are a few things NOT working because of verizon nit picking hsit in the build. Fonts not working for one, nothing that is really a deal breaker. I def dont miss the flashing of builds every week/month, keeping things updated and waiting on developers. Google is smart enough to listen to its consumers and for the most part every new build of android has vast improvements and functionality.. rooting for the most part will be so that you can control the hardware and do whatever you want with your phone, which I believe that is how it should be...i ve stuck with verizon because of the quality of service they provide. Awesome speeds, damn near accessible everywhere, havent had a dropped call in YEARS. But from a tech standpoint, they are a bit ridiculous when it comes to their hardware. I hope they release a line of phones that are rootable and still keep a "protected" option for those who dont want phones that can be tampered with by rooting, security issues, etc.. who knows.. but i wouldnt hold your breath waiting on root for this phone.. best bet is the note 7 coming out and hope a root is found.. but, I imagine its going to just get harder and harder for developers with encryption and new securities..

I understand and agree about the flashing and dealing with the bugs on new roms. All I want is the ability to delete apps I don't want. I know debloaters are out there and they work and that's great and thanks to their developers. I think we are owned the freedom to delete what we don't want. It's like the cable companies sticking us with shows we never want or watch.

I used to feel that way. I used to root every phone I got (if I could) just so I could use Titanium backup to first disable apps and then if I had no problems, uninstall them. Bu with my Note 5 I've concluded it would be a waste of time, even if I could do it. I use Package Disabler Pro (as do many on this forum) and no, it doesn't actually delete apps. They are still there taking up space. but they don't run and unless you are critically short of space, the actual space they consume is minimal. My only complaint against Pakcage Disabler is that I wish it worked on my Asus tablet. but alas, it only woks on Samsung devices.

Has anyone compared Package Disabler to Debloater?
Yeah, Package Disabler is the way to go (IMO). You don't need a computer as with Debloater. Don't get me wrong, Debloater is great, but it's nice being able to disable apps on the go. Not to mention, Package Disabler allows you to export your lists of disabled apps to an XML file, so you can simply import the list back if you need to (say, after a factory reset). Just my thoughts.

It's not rooted yet. There is something in the works, but nothing yet. We haven't given up yet.

no root buddy if ure on mm mm requires bootloader unlock to root and between att and verizon they have the tightest locked bootloader of them all
i got rid of my note 5 but it was the first device that wasnt make or break over root like other posters said get s package disabler and ure good

it disables all the bloatware on ure note 5 even without root saves loads of battery and speeds up the device in my opinion
this one works by being a device administrator and it lets u disable tons more stuff than in the standard application manager on the device

there is no root for the verizon version yet things always change if ure looking to root find another device.

I soft bricked my Note 5 and then had problems flashing with ODIN. After I was able to flash though, the screen briefly showed an unlocked padlock. Is that typical? Is the bootloader rendered insecure when you upgrade for a brief window?

I have been rooting all previous samsung and pixel phone but i dont know if rooting or unlocking bootlaoder is needed for HTC U11.. I mean software is fast and fluid, battery is exceptional (7 hour screen on time), not much bloatware out there, sound is alo great unless we have some sound mods out there who improve it further
so is there any advantage of rooting and going after custom ROMs/Mods ?
secondly i am using HTC phone after long time so this S On/OFF is confusing. If we have unlock bootloader and root/Twrp then can we flash all custom ROMs ? or we must need to do S-OFF in order to flash some custom ROMs ?

S-off is protection for system turned off so anything written to root is permanent.
Unlocking bootloader is what protects the phone from loading software that isn't official.
Yes you can flash roms etc without s-off. S-off is dangerous but can offer extra methods of recovery should your phone die unexpectedly. It is highly recommended to buy s-off via sunshine app if you plan on rooting.
Rooting has its uses but it has more disadvantages. Some apps won't run, ie banking apps, you can easily cheat games but it makes things boring, you can block adverts but you can get rootless options too.. Swings and roundabouts. Personally I don't root anymore.

You dont need to be S Off to install a custom ROM. Although there are more and more apps and theming engines that pretty much do what the old rooting used to, I have been rooting since the old school evo days. You can always go back to stock in most cases, but its nice to see what the different custom roms developers have to offer and experience the different user interfaces. The installation of a different kernel is the the best advantage to me if you are looking to tweak battery usage and certain functions. Plus you van back up and dirty flash most roms without much hassle or loss of data. I currently am S On and have used a few different daily driver roms with no issues for years now. Just read up on firmware updating and the Rom requirements before loading.

Not the best advice or info.
You don't need s off unless you plan on changing your u11 firmware from one cid to another (Google it). Why spend the $$ unnecessarily?
IF you root with Magisk you can use magisk Manager to hide root from banking and other apps and they'll work just fine.

My explanation for s-off is valid. S-off has more uses than just changing the cid. Google it. I recommend s-off in all instances where the phone will be rooted. Otherwise you leave it s-on.
As for magisk, it doesn't always work. Google it. It's 101.

Personally I've only ever used S off to downgrade stock, never needed to change cid, it makes tasks easier but a lot of the security is missing, it's swings & roundabouts soff

I rooted an old Motorola phone (Verizon) years ago and I didn't have any problems then. I could flash all these different ROMs and it was cool and interesting to do. Later phones I owned from Verizon didn't let me root so that was that. This year I decided I wanted to get a phone directly from HTC, the U11. I got the version that I could unlock and it didn't have all the bloatware like from the other carriers. I got the phone in April of this year and did the unlock process using the HTC Dev website. All went well and I loaded up a few apps that only worked with an unlocked phone. I installed Magisk and TWRP but I never did install a custom ROM because the phone was working well - fast and long battery life and the apps that required an unlocked phone played well.
Then a couple weeks ago there was a notification on my phone that there was an OTA update. The OTA notification nag screen was constantly coming up and of course I couldn't update while the phone was unlock. Or at least that's what I thought. So I went and used ADB and gave the the command to OEM lock. That was it, my phone got corrupt and long story short my phone is headed back to HTC to be revived.
When I do get the phone back I'll leave it as is, factory stock. I really didn't see the need to flash any new ROMs after I got the phone in April. It is a hard lesson to learn but oh well. It is what it is. If I do decide to unlock again, I will make sure I know what I am doing. Obviously I didn't.

Tethering Without Root?
I'm moving from an S7 to the U11. I've always rooted my phones in the past, mainly to get tethering and remove bloat. Is there a tether option without rooting the U11? From what I hear there isn't a ton of bloat on the U11, so if I can tether without root, I might just do that.

Well there isn't much of bloatware on the U11 and that is one of the reasons I wanted that phone. Another reason was that I wanted the latest HTC phone (got my U11 in April before the U12+ came out). I don't care for Samsung and Apple phones and I've just gravitated toward HTC since the HTC Incredible.
I've rooted a couple phones before and they were so easy to do. No issues and it was not so complicated as it is now. I really screwed my U11 (or at least I couldn't figure out the right procedures to get it out of trouble).
I root because I want youtube adaway (Which to be fair does have a no root option) and, more importantly, adaway.
Adaway has no alternative if you aren't rooted, which sucks. I don't care for adgaurds VPN or DNS666. An App like Adaway, I would pay for that on a non-rooted phone to make it happen. Bonus, I also get to install other ROMs Once my phone stops being updated by HTC, which seeing their track record, will be around January of 2019.

it can't work on rooted phones because google doesnt want to happen.
Adaway removes the reveneue of big corporations, and thats affect google, thats why google, banking apps, and even pokemon don't like rooting.
you can acess your bank in your windows PC (windows have admin mode)
but you can't in android..

I don't know what people are doing on this site that say we don't need root. It's like atheists on eclesiastical meeting
I often think putting a custom rom in more secure due to the security patches being updated, however obviously you need to mask it for bank apps. So how important are security updates? Banking apps like google pay dont check that condition yet they check the latter.

I wonder how fast (if at all) there will be a way to root the device, and most importantly: install Google Play and custom launchers on it.
A custom ROM; something stock like would also be exciting to see soon.
Another question that I have is: will I be able to use the in-display-fingerprintsensor when I install a custom launcher?
I guess that's a very noob question but I really have not much experience with that because this will be my fist phone with a fingerprintsensor at all.

Root and custom roms will be available as soon as Vivo release source code and blobs, and yes you can use the fingerprint sensor on custom launchers, even if it doesn't have play store you can still install launchers and apps from an apk.

Thats great news actually. I have successfully rooted and installed a custom ROM on my galaxy S5. But I am still quite new to the topic and therefore I want to ask: if some videos or websites claim that they have a way to root *any* android device: can that be true from a technical standpoint or is such a thing always scam?

It is definitely a scam, there's no way of rooting *any* phone, it's true that most phones become rootable sooner or later, but that depends on the manufacturer and those who modify the device. The thing is that technically any android phone can be rooted, but that can only be done if one first has access to a bootloader which they can send commands to, such as flashing a recovery. Apps or sites that say they can root any phone is a very deceptive way of tricking inexperienced users, based on somewhat facts.
The process of rooting a phone goes something like this:
1. Manufacturer releases software which allows a pc to communicate with the phone, therefore allowing for the pc to send commands such as flashing a recovery, sideloading a custom rom, restoring stock firmware, etc.
2. At that point, the user has complete access to their phone, just as the manufacturer would, so they can flash a recovery, through which they could flash supersu or magisk in order to root their phone, or a custom rom.
Now the thing about apps that can supposedly root a phone through the os, without it having root, is that some of them are legit, but they work in many different ways, those ways vary from each device. Apps such as kingroot (roots the phone without the need of a pc) is that they normally look for system apps which they can exploit and use as a backdoor to gain root access for the device, such apps can indeed root multiple devices, but no app can root literally any phone. This is because, if for example there was a phone that was released 15th june, 2018, and would have extremely good security, no apps that could be used as a backdoor, the app simply couldn't exploit that device. This is exactly why very new phones (such as the vivo nex) have no custom roms or root, because they're so new that no exploits have been found, and the manufacturer hasn't released software for users to root, nor have they released source code for developers to start building custom roms for them.

Moral of the story: don't trust weird apps saying they can root any device.

That with the bootloader makes a lot of sense to me as I work a lot with microcontrollers especially; AVRs and PICs. Some of them have a dedicated part of the FLASH where you can keep code around that runs at system startup. A bootloader. That per example lets the AVRs flashed with an Arduino Bootloader communicate with the PC without the need for a programming device!
So I won't load any itchy software on my new device haha.
An other question I have is:
Are there any disadvantages of having a Chinese ROM other than having to install all Google services manually?

Well most of the time stock android is always faster and more stable, be it touchwiz, miui, flyme. Touchwiz for example uses very high resolution icons for the ui, which take up more ram (and make the rom size much bigger, therefore sacrificing internal memory) making the phone more sluggish. Basically roms that aren't stock always have some element to them which is likely to make them slower, or have more bugs, possibly.
Because how can you have a better android rom than pure android? Building upon it is always a good thing, but changing it completely usually results in a not so good experience. These sort of things certainly don't apply to what oneplus do with oxygen os and whatever the stock rom is for motorola phones.
As much I fall in love with this phone but VIVO is totally developer unfriendly.
Due to unavailability of kernel sources third party developers couldn't build any custom aftermarket ROM's.
It’s the opposite from what OnePlus offer.
I will wait 6-9 months we will see many other OEM building same design and feature 3d fingerprint reader under the screen and most important developer friendly.
Even Samsung device it’s very very easy rooting and installing twrp and has plenty of development support with custom rom,tweaks and mod.
This Funtouch OS out of the box Vivo phones is totally not acceptable and DOA to me.
It’s a shame such wonderful device with really bad and closed software.

I've never bought a Chinese phone, but this year I will be getting my first Chinese Android device (Vivo or not).
I've rooted phones in the past so not worried about it but is it required to get Google Play Store and framework on the device? Basically I'm asking how does one make this Chinese phone into a Westernized one.

Basically you cann install the playstore through the gmail hack. You install gmail via the included chinese store app. Then it will automatically load playstore on the device.
If you pick your seller with care they will have a semi western rom on the phone. I (I posted the link to the seller in the where to buy thread) ordered my vivo nex from a seller who does that. They will have english language, playsore gmail, maps youtube etc preinstalled.
Despite the not open software of the nex just because its sheer popularity there will be custom roms and hacks. You can bet on that! Just not as many of corse.

I guess noone can say for 100% sure because the phone will start selling just tomorrow. But people with vivo expreince have claimed that the software on vivo phones is generally not very developer friendly.
Even if there won't be custom ROMs I can still have a custom launcher on it.

Our only hope is for wider spread selling across globe and not only Asia that maximaze possibilities.
As more and more users across globe getting know Vivo then its more possible.
Don't forget Vivo is major sponcored of World Cup 2018 that's major worldwide athletic event and think Vivo has ambition to sell to western world some time(not to far hope)

I think they might have some contracts with Vivo...
Even more proof of that if you look on AliExpress they charge way premium for the devices. I paid 800€ on the 8G 128G version!
I think that there are no disadvantages besides anything regarding their AI tech which will only understand Chinese I think.
Once I am not planning to use that, that's no problem. People claim that the funtouch OS is somewhat unstable but I will test that for myself. The seller I ordered from claims that I will be able to receive over the air updates so they will surely patch things over time.
Remember that if you do not like their OS you can still install a launcher from playstore.
But if any of that holds true, I will see when my phone arrives. The seller claims that they will ship it out over the next 7 days per DHL.
I will update here on my experience, installing launchers, if playstore is there or not etc.

Btw, do you know if you can eliminate the chinese software that comes pre-installed? And can you configurate everything you need as if it were a "normal western android"? (contacts, calendar sync, emails, etc)

I have the Vivo Nex now. Can't use third party launcher unless you sign up for a vivo account which can only be done with a China phone number. This is a new development as I was able to get nova on vivo x21 without account.
Really annoying.

Just a note at the side: I don't know about stability but even though the Vivo OS looks a lot like iOS especially for larger phones like that things like the quick draw from the bottom are quite nice features.

Long time i didn t buy a new phone ( i am still on s9+) and there where a lot of rom for the s9+, but doesn t seem to find them for the s21+.
Where are they ?
I believe more people aren't interested to root, unlock bootloader and create custom roms. One of reasons you lost warranty, secondly you lost google pay, samsung pay, secure folder etc. No Updates OTA. And many more. Yes you can fix some of them by custom kernel or Magisk Hide etc. And android in nowadays is enought good. So are you interested in this?
@Itadiki What are you missing from OneUI? What would you want from a custom ROM that you don't have in the official ones?
As @Nettwerk was saying, nowadays OEM Android is good enough even for most of the people that in the past would run a custom ROM. So custom ROMs make little to no sense. Put the disadvantages on top (like loss of warranty or functionalities) and you get the current situation.
@Nettwerk My s9 was rooted and I still had access to google pay. We don t have samsung pay and never used secure folder but I don t see the reason why it would not work
As For @daniel_loft The same reason I wanted my all other devices rooted. Faster speed, no bloatware, optimization in general, and discover a lot of possibilities I didn t think about with all rooted software than can customize everything.
I can root the device myself, Remove the bloatware, install xposed framework and lots of other tools myself. But I am lazy, and not as knowledgable as the excellent people who spend hours and hours on giving us a way better rom than the stock one.
Yes the loss of warranty is a risk I am willing to take.
Secure folder checks knox. If efuse is trigered than it doesn't work. If I'm not wrong.

Custom roms are always a good option , they lead to many innovations that with time and popular demand are later integrated in official rom , my last two phone i have not rooted them , i have not missed a thing from not doing it either.
If you root you will miss out in Samsung pay or google pay but of course it may not be important to everyone

It's not what's missing...it's what I *want* missing....I really want to get rid of the Bloat...nd fix a couple of issues that are plaguing my current s10+ (like the fact that any streaming is interrupted if *any* other resident program is in front of it, and needs an update....my Music cuts out when Waze needs to check in, for example (every 5 minutes).... and T-Mobile swears there is nothing wrong. (...then why did it start doing this *after* a forced Update that they refuse to roll-back?)

I know what you mean.
I remember back in the day when I had an HTC One X (still my favourite phone even though I got an s21) then later the M8 and there were tons of roms and mods available from a range of creators. My fav rom was the Viper range which had tons of features like tap to wake and customisable themes which didn't appear on official android for years and had OTA updates which got you on the latest android version before official release.
But I think, as said above, nowadays android has progressed to the point that you don't need to root to get roms with missing features and the likes of Samsung update their phones much faster than they used to. Even I haven't installed a custom rom since the S8 (the S6 & One M9 were the last ones I rooted. And the M9 was only to remove htc bloatware). And though rooting is still useful for removing baked in apps you don't need (Samsung, I'm looking at you!) but in general it's not needed anymore. Especially since manufacturers seem to have got 'inspiration' (interpret that as you will) from some of the fantastic indipendent developers found on sites like XDA.
The other problem is that these days more people use their phones for banking and paying in store and these functions are blocked on rooted phoned.
It is a shame though, the creativity, diversity of mods and general level of knowledge that was once found here back then was amazing.
That's not to say there isn't great talent still here, there is, simply back then there were much more developers creating full roms.

Totally agree with you here.
This was once a clear distinction between android and iPhone. These days they are all trying to suck you into their own eco system.
What's funny is that on my Huawei Nova 5t I had much more control of an apps access to my data and no apps were 'baked in' like Samsung pay etc. We should not have to root a phone we own to remove apps we don't want or make changes to the functionality of a phone, especially after we have paid hundreds of £/$ or more for.
i like root for Root level Backup, Host File level adblocking see wakelocks, change CPU/GPU underclock/overclock/undervolt.. And to keep upgrading my phone to new versions long after the manufacturer stops providing updates.
I am looking at a S22.. though if no community support then maybe not..

unless u buy an exynos s21, u'll be able to root and do whatever... but if u buy a qualcomm one., u wont be able to root, unless u pay... i suggest to stay away from samsung (qualcomm) if u're into the rooting scene

i avoid snapdragon like plague for some years already since the inability to root/titanium backup. as long as the phone can't be rooted, i don't buy it, even exypnos is hotter slower dumber etc but the freedom to block ads and freeze/unfreeze/backup app is totally unmatched. also nowadays there's knoxpatch module so i can pretty much use any samsung secured function (just lack samsung pay/pass)

This goes for both phones regardless id like everything to work properly on either phone. I would rather not root the 7 Pro if it meant these types of apps work properly.
2. Are there any benefits or differences when it comes to rooting the 7 Pro vs the 6?
The answers to this question will help me weight the options, for instance if there is a decent enough benefit to rooting the 7 Pro then I might just forgo the "secure apps" mentioned in the last question.

I don't own the P6P so I can't compare, but P7P has a newer chip and I would be inclined to use it as my daily driver.

Both should be equally easy using PixelFlasher. Keep in mind that P7P patches init_boot.img and not boot.img. You'll find that explained in details in the relevant PixelFlasher thread(s).

Not sure about unroot since I don't need it, perhaps a bit of a read in P7P forum here can help.
Reflash stock init_boot.img and you will be unrooted. Depending, you might have to do a factory reset and bootloader relock. It really depends on the apps and such.

Just a note/thought...
I'm not entirely sure you'll be able to root either device (Pixel 6 or P7P)...carrier variant Pixel's are notoriously inconsistent (& sometimes just as difficult) to get the bootloader unlocked -- which is necessary to root. Apparently, carriers vary -- Verizon is a nonstarter and is for the most part impossible -- and, from what I've seen around the forum here, a lot of the times you'll need to pay off the device fully to get the carrier to send the signal to SIM unlock your device which will get the OEM unlock tick enabled (another necessity to root). You've stated that AT&T already has given you a hard time and has yet to unlock it, and from what I recall AT&T is similar in T-Mo that you must get it SIM unlocked -- so if they won't get that far, your options might be limited in terms of the Pixel 7 Pro that is an AT&T variant. In a lot of cases for T-Mobile, speaking them through Twitter support and/or regular customer service support can get them to send that signal that will SIM unlock (depending on what you tell them; i.e. you are a developer and require for it to be unlocked, you are traveling internationally and need to input another SIM temporarily, etc.); I'm unsure if you can do the same for AT&T.
Another note/thought is that, after rooting, updating isn't too difficult, BUT it is not as easy as using the built-in System Update process. Using the tool PixelFlasher makes it very straightforward and basically is almost the closest way to have a one-click update method, but it isn't as easy. BUT it is DEFINITELY faster than updating via OTA using the built-in System Update process (3-5 minutes vs. 20+ minutes)!
Lastly, be aware that in order to root, you must unlock your bootloader, and when you unlock your bootloader, it is required that your device is wiped -- since you speak as if you've used both devices at least a fair amount (moreso your Pixel 6 as it's been your daily driver for a while now), I'm sure there is also a fair amount of data and customizations on there that you will now have to re-enter, re-setup, re-transfer, re-download, and the like...
Just some thoughts that you might want to keep in mind...good luck to you!

I'm not entirely sure you'll be able to root either device (Pixel 6 or P7P)...carrier variant Pixel's are notoriously inconsistent (& sometimes just as difficult) to get the bootloader unlocked -- which is necessary to root. Apparently, carriers vary -- Verizon is a nonstarter and is for the most part impossible -- and, from what I've seen around the forum here, a lot of the times you'll need to pay off the device fully to get the carrier to send the signal to SIM unlock your device which will get the OEM unlock tick enabled (another necessity to root). You've stated that AT&T already has given you a hard time and has yet to unlock it, and from what I recall AT&T is similar in T-Mo that you must get it SIM unlocked -- so if they won't get that far, your options might be limited in terms of the Pixel 7 Pro that is an AT&T variant. In a lot of cases for T-Mobile, speaking them through Twitter support and/or regular customer service support can get them to send that signal that will SIM unlock (depending on what you tell them; i.e. you are a developer and require for it to be unlocked, you are traveling internationally and need to input another SIM temporarily, etc.); I'm unsure if you can do the same for AT&T.
Another note/thought is that, after rooting, updating isn't too difficult, BUT it is not as easy as using the built-in System Update process. Using the tool PixelFlasher makes it very straightforward and basically is almost the closest way to have a one-click update method, but it isn't as easy. BUT it is DEFINITELY faster than updating via OTA using the built-in System Update process (3-5 minutes vs. 20+ minutes)!
Lastly, be aware that in order to root, you must unlock your bootloader, and when you unlock your bootloader, it is required that your device is wiped -- since you speak as if you've used both devices at least a fair amount (moreso your Pixel 6 as it's been your daily driver for a while now), I'm sure there is also a fair amount of data and customizations on there that you will now have to re-enter, re-setup, re-transfer, re-download, and the like...

Yeah I spent the entire night I made this post trying to bypass the OEM lock and that morning called the providers and neither of them can unlock it, which is BS cause I'm not the person who didn't pay their bill. I'm just going to wait until someone finds a work around, if y'all figure something out lemme know.
I do not even need a smartphone without root rights !!
We should push legislation so that Google will must include root access by default in the settings for any Android device !!

Sorry to hear that...but it is as I feared...
Unfortunately you shouldn't hold your breath. Locked down Pixels are fairly notorious about not being able to bypass; Verizon has locked down every Pixel since the original, with bounties $4k+ offering to bypass/unlock, all without success -- I'm unsure if there was ever one with other carriers. The only time there was a "work around" was with the original Pixel seven years ago, which was patched within a month or two. There hasn't been one since...

Yeah outta the 4 Pixels I own, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel 5a, and the Pixel 4, the only one that i can root is the pixel 5a which is annoying because it has lower specs and Refresh rate. The Pixel 7 Pro is locked to ATT bought through a third party and they said since i dont know the person who bought it and because there is a balance owed on the device there is no way to unlock it. The Pixel 6 is locked to Sprint/T-Mobile same situation as the P7P, and the 4 is Verizon locked and they said they dont even have it in their system, so yet again no way for me to get it unlocked.
I'm going out on a limb and gonna say there is likely no way to get these unlocked right now but if anyone see's this and knows of a way to convice these people at these companies to unlock the phones let me know cause as of right now i think it is impossible to get the phones unlocked via an unlock service or a program

It seems that if you are interested & fine with getting 3rd party second-hand devices, places like Swappa.com is a great place to purchase that you can be sure is global unlocked/no-carrier-variant and has checks/redundancies/ways-of-confirming that the device being sold is legit; if anything you should be able to message the seller and ask for the IMEI so you can check with all the carriers to see if the device is free and clear in their systems...
