note 20 android 13 0 B storage Bug - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Hi all
I updated my note 20 ultra 5g from 12 to 13 by OTA PDA: N986BXXS5GVK9 and working fine but when I wake up morning while my device charged I found it 0 B storage so I restart my device and memory again normal. This practice am doing daily without any improvement.
If I go into the Settings > Storage section, all I see are 0 B everywhere. Calls, and receiving & sending messages in WhatsApp/SMs app works fine too. All apps that needs to store on internal user storage can't do it because its not there.
I did some actions like below:
I disabled the 4GB of extra RAM.
I cleared applications cache by ccleaner.
in the apps section in settings, 3 dots top right, special access and activate access to all media storage.
I am attaching some images if they can be of any help to anyone.
still issue not solved and I don’t want to reset format my device
regards

That last image is showing -1B available storage.
Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu. Otherwise you're headed for a factory reset. Make sure all critical data is redundantly backed up... now.

Samsung's a mess. It's not like that on the N10+ Android 9/10. I think it's hardware mod rather than firmware?
Lol, I forgot abut that because I don't have to do it. Guess some fools were pocket factory resetting. Can't have that

yesterday i wiped cash & repair apps by connecting USB cable to my laptop by recover mode and working ok
but
today early morning 2:30AM i used my devise and found it -1 B like the picture so i did wipe cash again and waiting today if again memory storage lost or not

Yeah, that's not acceptable behavior.
Dismount and remove SD card. See if that helps.
If you're stateside take it to a Samsung Experience center at a Best buy. They have advanced diagnostics, allegedly.
Factory reset. This could be malware. Reload with care, keep the trashware like WhatsApp off it. Bare bones load at first and then gradually add more apps. Social media apps are malware and should never be installed; login by browser only if you must visit them. This saves your battery and decreases your exposure.
If all that fails reflash firmware to last known good version ie older than is on it preferably. This is another reason I don't upgrade/update firmware; less variables and you can spot odd behavior faster . A known playing field makes troubleshooting much easier. Troubleshooting new firmware can be very time consuming*...
That last possibility is a hardware failure. However I still think the most likely suspect is a 3rd party app. If you do a reload lockdown all updates for all apps. Do a few or one at a time over the course of days. Keep a log*.
*this can get bloody. Consider using more advanced tools to find the app or process responsible for the behavior. I never had to do this with Android but you may need to. With Windows I did it more than once.

Sometimes it happens like this because of flashing wrong pit files or after you remove frp or change the system files so the best way to make sure is do s backup with switch on your pc and flash the stock rom and restore your backup and check again

Try it and let me know

[Q] SGH-T959D constantly rebooting - cannot mount internal sd card ?!

I've been really happy with my Galaxy S Fascinate 3G+ SGH-T959D... I've got that phone brand new from Telus on February 28 2011... now we are march 18th 2012... 1 year and 2½ something weeks...
This morning, my phone woke me up, I went to a meeting (recorded 2 hours of audio of this meeting), took notes on my phone, placed calls, send sms, return home for dinner, put my phone on the table, send an sms, took a small lunch in the living room while reading and I suddently hear the booting song from the phone...
I thought the battery had drain and the phone was rebooting or something... and I don't hear nothing else after. 2 hours later, I pick up my phone to place a call and I realize my phone is rebooting constantly...
I see the telus logo, the galasy S logo flying by and then it restarts over and over...
I immediately went to my telus store (where I learn the great news that my phone is no longer under warranty by 2½ weeks), and the manager did try a new sim card, try my sim card in another phone, made me reboot my phone holding volume key and power key, tried to do a factory reset...
Nothing worked, I only see the telus logo and the galasy flying by...
My phone is not rooted (I do not understand much about that) and was using the stock telus android 2.3.2 if I am not mistaken...
What the hell did happend to my phone while it was sitting on the dining table ? It destroy itself in standby mode ???
I have tried to seek information about that issue on xda but I get so many different solution, for different devices, and mainly I see this happen when people are trying to modify their phones rom or trying rooting where mine is using a stock version...
The last thing that worries me the most is that when I connect the USB cable to my PC, it detects nothing (win7 64bit) even when in recovery mode (with the yellow android logo) where the telus guy tried to see the phone on the store computer.
Anyone can help ?

Try wipe data/factory reset. It will erase everything on the phone. The SD card will be untouched and you will still have pictures, music and recordings.
Still a no go...

Hi AaRcSvN, I've done this with the telus store manager and still, I get the same exact result.
The phone seems to boot up with the music and Telus logo, then I see the flying galaxy S logo and it reboots.
I have just tried it again and it does the same thing, reboot constantly and it shows the error you see in the picutre :
"E:Failed to mount /sdcard (file exist)"
"E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount /sdcard your storage not prepared yet. please use UI menu for format and reboot actions"
"Meida files copy failed."
What is the UI menu ?? Where and how can I get to that menu ?
Any other input would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks again AaRcSvN
Ok the UI (user interface) menu is in the picture you took. I'm guessing you scrolled the menu with the volume controls to "wipe data/factory reset" and did that.
Other people have the same problem. You might have to set up Android SDK >> http://bit.ly/GBRP39 on your computer to do some things.

Thanks AaRcSvN for following up... I've been reading a lot and indeed, a lot of people do report that issue but it is because they have tried to root or install custom rom... the thing that worries me is that mine was a clean device running stock provider software...
It's nice when you get some support when you are kind of lost and specially that I am far from being a wizz at handling these advance setup operations...
Thanks for your time and all the links about the SDK that I will install and will follow the xda thread you suggest me.
That's it I guess...
well, after trying methods found in the thread you submitted me to read where it seems there was a lot of hope, I read this :
"E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 error you got means internal SD failure, this usually means it needs a PCB replacement (a new motherboard)"
That information was found in this post
After the manipulation found in the thread, I now have a different screen which display this :
I even have the format sd card now (which I did not have before) but even when I try this, I get a dead phone blank screen after the galaxy S splash screen at startup...
which seems to seal the faith of my phone... I know owe 320$ balance to my provider for a confirmed dead phone...
So for all people who have this issue and specially with mmcblk0p1 error, it seems that we have a dead sd card on our motherboard...
Thanks for all the great information
Confirmed dead phone mmcblk0p1 error
I sent my phone to an authorized samsung service center and they confirmed what I have read in the preceeding forum about the mmcblk0p1 sdcard error...
They need to replace the motherboard of the phone, a 300$ job...
So if you get this error, I am not saying it is not fixable but as I read, there is a good chance that your phone is dead and need motherboard replacement.
I got that error on a original phone, not running custom roms and not being unlock or rooted. The phone simply died by itself sitting on the kitchen table. On my phone, this error is due to a failing internal sdcard.
Good luck with your phone if you have the same error and if by any chance you were able to start your phone again with this error, share your findings.
wooohoooooooo !
After a couple calls and maybe two hours of my time, Samsung greatly agreed to fix my phone free of charge even though the warranty was out of about 3 weeks.
It has been a roller coaster over the phone but the final result is a fully functionnal phone.
So thumbs up for Samsung. If you are in a similar situation of being out of warranty for 2 or 3 weeks, if you think your time is worth it, call samsung and discuss calmly with the operator.
Just a note on one thing that happend to me. I bought my phone with my master card which has a double extention warranty plan. You buy something that has 1 year, the master card warranty will ad another year of corverage.
When I bought my phone, on the receipt, it was displayed 1 Galaxy S Fascinate 529$ -480$ balance in exchange of a 3 year contract. Total that had been paid was actually 56.99$.
The salesperson at Telus convince me to get the balance as I wanted to buy the phone in one shot. She explained me that if I keep my phone for 3 year, it will only cost me 56.99$ but if I end my contract, I have to pay the balance (480$/36months remaining).
What I had not though at that time is if the phone break after the warranty, you'll have to pay your balance for a non working piece of equipement. In my mind the full price of the phone was covered.
Even though I explained to master card that I needed to pay that phone if I cancel my contract and that it was a balance and not a rebate, they would only conver the initial amount at the moment of the payment which is 56.99$.
Conclusion, if you have such a warranty coverage on one of your credit card, be sure to pay entirely your item because if it has a balance, it won't be covered.
Will I buy another Samsung product? absolutely. Will I suggest to buy Samsung product to someone else? absolutely. I am pleased with their service and I am pleased that they actually care about their customers. It was nothing for them to authorized that repair and they made a long time Samsung customer happy that will spread his story positively.
Thanks Samsung and everybody that help on the forum !

Update:
Well my battery finally ran out. I put it on charge for 10 mins and turned it on and there was life. Booted straight up to home screen. Using the phone right now to write this.
Ran without sd card and sim and no freezing or crashes.
Powered down, put sim card and sd card in and it crashes.
Took sd card out and it's running fine now !!!!!
So must be something to do with the sd card, which works fine in my s4 and laptop

All started 5 days ago.
Day 1, working as normal then Facebook froze on a video, sound frozen on. Phone unresponsive. Forced restart, stuck on boot load loop couple of times and started normally. Normal operation rest of day.
Day 2, froze while on home screen, wouldn't boot back up, stuck on boot loop. Got into standard recovery mode, cleared cache and factory reset, had to do this a few times till finally back up and running normally.
Day 3, same as day 2. Plugged in to smart switch and went on to emergency/reinitialisation and re flashed firmware. Stuck on boot loop, cleared cache and factory reset. Back working after a few times.
Day 4 same as day 3
Day 5, downloaded evr firmware version and used odin (debug mode on and oem unlock turned off) flashed OK but still kept crashing and freezing as before.
So btu rom this time. All went OK, same problems as before, force reboot a few times and loading up to home screen before freezing again after 1 min of use. Then 4th time round that red writing came on boot loader.
I can force boot but withing half a second that writing comes back up. Can't get into recovery mode or download. No samsung logos come up. I can't turn the device off either.
All firmware was the latest version from Samsung server btu/evr/xeu. (Xeu being original firmware)
Btu and evr didn't have WiFi calling in the phone settings so wasn't going to keep them anyway.

Yeah I was thinking about doing that. I've had the device since release (pre ordered) so 2 and a half months it was fine. There was no OTA update 5 days ago. So that's what I couldn't understand.
However if I return it and it doesn't have the correct firmware on (being xeu, and I have btu on it at the moment) and they figure out ive changed firmware then it would be warranty void job.
The pc still discovers the device in that re writing mode but it won't let me flash anything to it.

Tell us more about the SD card.
Is it partitioned? how long have you had it? does it work correctly with a laptop? have you attempted to clean the file systems in use? are many of your apps installed on it? etc etc otherwise its very difficult to say, could be anything from one app messing things up to a card that is totally frozen and needs throwing.
I've had one where it all looked good but write changes were not persistent (i.e. it was buggered) at least I could rescue the data
Having said that I have had a great many samsung phones and I have never seen the types of screen shot above.....

I'm going to take all the data off it tonight and format the sd card.
I bought about 3 months ago from tesco, it's a San disk ultra 32gb.
I'll update later on, as far as I know, I don't have many apps stored on it, it's mainly just for music, pictures, videos and backup of sms/contacts/etc.

probably worth running chkdsk / scandisk on it first.... might be as simple as a file system error.
if you're unsure you want chksk f: /f
where f: is the drive letter of the card
If you have regularly filled the drive you might also defrag it etc ... also worth checking the LOST+FOUND folder you probably wont be able to do much with it but it may give you a clue as the fact it's been having issues

Well unfortunately it wasn't the sd card. Phone started freezing last night while not being used and no sd card in.
Either way I checked the sd card. 0 errors on it and 10% fragmented.
I formatted it anyway to make sure there is no android conflicts on there.
So I decided to flash the bootloader, flashed the rom again, and also cp/phone partition data.
This seems to have rectified the crashing for now. I've got 6 hours use out of the device with no crashes so far.

Mobile Network Issue, apps Not Connecting

Hello guys, I'm having a huge issue with my mobile network.
For the past two weeks I've not been able to make use of my mobile network correctly, it sometimes works, but most of the time doesn't. The icon in my status bar shows there is activity, it's fully connected to 3G or LTE, even with full bars. But all my apps like Telegram, Pokémon go, Messenger and the likes are stuck "reconnecting" to the network, as if my phone doesn't have any reception at all. At some points even SMS messages refuse to send, even though I've got full reception.
I've already gotten my SIM card switched out, attempted multiple clean flashes and the issue still persists.
My current firmware: 0.1.c1.11-00006-M8974AAAAANAZM-1
Current ROM: idprophecy's unofficial optimized lineage-14.1-20180413-UNOFFICIAL-bacon
Current Recovery: Kutep0v TWRP 3.2.1-K2
Is there anything I can do? I'm getting really desperate.
I have flashed countless of other ROM's by now, and different firmwares. Yet I've yielded no results, is there nobody that can be of help?
Is there any other forum or something else of some kind that can be of help? I seriously don't want to be forced to buy a new smartphone just because of some software issue.

Has no one got back to you?
I hope that I can help.
Firstly. Let's work through.
You seem to know about flashing a ROM so I won't bore you with all the details.
Clean flash!
Wipe everything except Internal Storage & OTG.
Download a different firmware :
MrShme Frankenstein build is a good one to start with.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/firmware-modem-oneplus-one-lollipop-t3300907
Remember to CLEAN FLASH first.
Wipe all except Internal Storage & OTG
(All but the two bottom options unticked).
Next flash a firmware.
Next flash a ROM.
Next flash GApps.
Set it up.
DO NOT INSTALL Magisk or similar yet.
Goto settings ->About Phone->Status->Sim Status.
In there you should find out all the information that you need to check Network.
Also here is an invaluable help section by @Timmmmaaahh:

I hope that helps you resolve your problems.

Thank you very much.
I ALWAYS do clean flashes though, have never done a dirty one in my life, though I always flash the firmware after the ROM. So, I'll try your order instead.
I'll try this right this very moment and I'll report back with results.

Alright well, it didn't work.
Is it possible my antennae is broken then? I seriously have no idea what else it could be, as the issue started out of nowhere, tried two different SIM cards and the issue still persists.
I've tried pretty much all firmwares, a ****load of ROM's and the likes but it still persists.
Though I don't understand how it periodically works fine. Let's say my mobile network works like it should for about a minute, then it's gone, then it's back again after a random amount of time, whilst my location hasn't changed at all. Though sometimes it cuts out completely when going through a certain part of my village, whereas I used to have perfect signal there before this issue started happening. Though the signal bar shows it's still fully connected to H+ or 4G, this is so weird and it's driving me insane.
Does anything show up in the settings at all?

If I dial "*#06#" I indeed get an IMEI number, in the screenshot is what shows up in my sim card status inside of settings.

What about swipe down from quick tiles. Press on mobile signal symbol.
Top right menu (3 dot descending menu)-> Mobile Networks->Access Point Names->there might be up to five different options. Make sure you find out your APN settings & delete the doubles. Make sure under Bearer LTE is selected & any other bands that your provider uses.
Does #*#*4636*#*# in phone show up? Refresh mobile and update. Use LTE setting (plus others) in drop down box.
Other than that can you use a friends SIM to make sure that your provider is compatible?
Or did the SIM always work until recently?

I've already done this multiple times, to no avail. All settings are always correct as well, even after flashing a new ROM.

Alright, it was "unspecified" before, but it's been on this setting since I've gotten the phone (Which was three years ago.). So it'd be weird if that suddenly would be an issue, that didn't fix it either though.

Yes it does show up and I tried messing with those settings as well, again, no difference. :/
This is so weird, I never had an issue before this started happening, it's so incredibly frustrating and annoying.
I've also tried using a different sim card of a different provider yesterday, and it throws me the exact same issue.
Maybe look here.

It may or may not work. I have no guarantees. It could relate to EFS.
But I have exhausted a few of my options. Maybe you might consider
the help of @Timmmmaaahh.

Though the signal bar shows it's still fully connected to H+ or 4G, this is so weird and it's driving me insane.

Hey there! Looks you're in pretty deep so that calls for a bootloading adventure. Before you proceed, do two things: use that K2 recovery to perform an EFS backup (as you can see your IMEI, it is not corrupted) and check with your provider if there are any outages on the network.
All good? Great, let's proceed. This will require some patience so please hang in there and read all steps before doing them. It's fairly simple but you can't skip a single thing. First make backups of your internal data (cat pictures, cat videos,... you know, all your cat stuff) then make a backup of any apps you want to salvage later and make sure the whole lot is copied to an external source (including the EFS backup!).
Then simply follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-return-opo-to-100-stock-t2826541
However, this is very important: do NOT follow step 4! Resetting flags or locking the bootloader on OPO is a very bad idea.
This should take you back about three years, enjoy the nostalgia and do follow the initial setup and do test your connection in this old skool environment. Working better? Great, flash TWRP again, wipe data and stuff and install your preferred ROM. Didn't work at all? Then I'm deeply sorry, your hardware is indeed starting to fail (or the SIM is dying but you seem to have checked that).
Good luck!

Hey!
Alright, thanks for the detailed post. There's no outages though, since it's been going on for a month now and I tried a different provider already it's most definately the phone itself.
I'll try this out and see what gives. If this doesn't work I probably have to replace my daughterboard, right?
Cheers!

I'm afraid I can only be of assistance on the software part
Careful with @bmark240's suggestion! One of the instructions entails "RUN THE flash-all.bat FILE FROM FASTBOOT", that might contain a "fastboot oem lock" command, which is an OPO killer! I have experienced this first hand.
If you've already taken the steps, it may still be fine. If "fastboot oem unlock" works, you're in the clear. If not, there's still some hope... I'll guide you through it if needed.
Cheers!

Alright well, I've literally tried everything by now. Even multiple times in a row, different methods etc, still to no avail.
To be honest I think changing my daughterboard would be the best idea at this point, finally. Even though I'm not even sure that will fix it. Where can I buy genuine Oneplus One parts though?
Two months later, still no solution to the problem.
I still don't get this. It shows full reception, and the fact I've got a signal in the IMEI menu, it just baffles me.
Isn't there a single I can do, run a test or something to see why this is happening? I'm truly desperate.

Question GPS stopped working as it used to after debloating. Which GPS Apks are pre-installed in the phone?

Hey, title is very much self descriptive. After debloating and removing a lot of what i would think were not essentials for the phone, GPS STILL does work, but only on OsmAnd, and not on other aps that use the map, and even then it takes several minutes for me to find location on the map. I ASSUME that this is because i removed something that lets app interact with mobile towers to get location and instead it relies only on sattelites to know where i am however this is mere speculation. I'd like to know if anyone with a lot more knowledge than i have could point me at which apps this phone would use stock with GPS or location services so that i could reinstall them and see what exactly did i break.
Consider this a bump, but in more specific terms. Could anyone help me identify or show me a list of potential GPS-related functionality APKs that would make other map apps not work properly?
Come on dude. Re-flashing is clearly your only option.
You would be better asking in other more popular Samsung Galaxy forums for general advice.

This is usually where most of the advice regarding modifying the OS and debloating came from so i suspected it was the best place to ask.

use this and connect your phone via USB cable and enable ADB debugging in developer settings and give it perms when it pops up a prompt. Then set the 3 menus on the right to say All, Disabled/Uninstalled(Try Disabled and if it doesn't show anything try Uninstalled), and All Lists. It should show you a list of all the apps you have that you got rid of and you can press the button to get it back. It might work for you or it might not. Well, i just installed a maps app in the phone after having a reset from factory and.... Its working exactly like it used to? It still wont get GPS signal. Now im wondering what's going on.

Strange... maybe update the os?
You need to reflash everything with Odin *mod and start again. Sorry I cant help you as I needed it myself when I did the same with camera as I was debloating, and Im not sure how to do it.
I am, however, sure this is what you need to do. It is more than a factory reset.
Well... I did a factory reset again and this time the second that i connected the phone to the internet i downloaded a maps apk that i was using and... Yeah, it cant locate the phone, so either using only GPS no wifi the phone is hardly able to locate itself, or the phone is doing something weird about the GPS that my previous phone didn't, or the only time i accidentally dropped my phone from like 1 feet into the ground i broke something which is real unlikely, or the GPS receiver of this phone is THAT bad and my house is THAT good at blocking GPS signal.
What a weird conondrum.
I mean, crap, even google maps doesn't know where i am. Is this because i refused google's location services?

Dont worry dude, i already did a factory reset. My problem persists with the factory reset is the current topic of trouble to me.
FACTORY RESET WILL NOT FIX. REFLASHING ROM WILL NOT FIX.
I screwed my Camera up the same way, with just removing apks. You need to reflash the slots in odin and run multi-disabler and all that again.

Im a bit lost, how does this all work, what do you say i broke, and why do i need to use odin that factory reset wont fix?
idk why did I need odin when my camera stopped from doing the same thing? I flashed a new rom and went through initial setup, also did a factory reset, it still didnt work! Its a guess obviously since its not the exact same problem, but id say something similar is happening to your gps hardware.

Well, my issue so far seems to be quite similar to this one:
Is there a way to get GPS to work without Google Location Service constantly enabled?

If I were you (op) I would reflash stock, copy everything to PC (all apps/apks) and slowly remove a few at a time and test gps as I go along. I know that would take some time but eventually you would find which ones have to do with gps. You could also make a list of all the names of the apks and throw them in your "search" on a browser and see what all you can find out about them that way..
The most detailed explanation I have ever seen of descriptions of apps is definitely xXx No Limit magisk rom for OnePlus 6,7,8 devices. The dev has a user configuration file where you choose whether you want to keep, delete, replace each apk in the entire device and he has an explanation for every single app that tells what it's used for and if it's safe to delete or not. I would search all I could, and maybe do the copy/delete apk first and see what all you can find then maybe shoot No Limit rom dev a msg asking him. IDK him personally except from here using his rom when I had a OnePlus 6t but I bet he would respond. Most people will help you out "if" they can see whoever is asking for the help has already done some work in to whatever it is themselves.

Phone hard bricked after new stock GPS update

Hi!
My wife woke up this morning with a bootlooping S7 (G930F). She had scheduled the new samsung GPS update to be installed tonight.
This morning the phone showed "failed to mount /efs", similar to this image:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
After showing this log, the phone went back to a android logo and it looped to the log/error again.
I tried booting it to download mode, but that seemed to have bricked the phone completely. It is no longer recognized by any PC, it doesn't react to any button press (or a combination thereof).
Do people have a similar problem with their S7 and the new stock update of Samsung? Any idea how to possibly fix this? Is there any data left on the device to salvage?
I was thinking of opening the back and trying to reconnect the battery, in the hope to get it recognized again by a PC.
Thanks!

Charge the battery and try again.
I'll try it without a new one first, as I'll have to buy that on aliexpress or something. However if there is nothing to salvage on the device, I don't really want to buy a new battery just to maybe get it unbricked.
i have the exact same failure with this update
I'm having the same issue. Did anyone figure this out?
Fineness5618tight13ze7zez
Nope, tried to open the phone and disconnect and reconnect the battery. However this sadly didn't fix it. I'm really not sure what broke in the phone, maybe the battery or maybe another part of the thing.
I've since broken down the phone in pieces, pierced the memory chips and recycled it.
Sorry for the bad news.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm thinking about calling Samsung or the carrier since it seems like the GPS update broke the phone. I know they don't support the phone any longer but since they issued a update to it maybe they will help I'm also thinking about using odin to reload either the stock rom or a custom rom.

Good luck! It sure seems to be Samsungs fault so you can definitely try that route.
In my case I wasnt even able to use Odin so I hope you can get it working with your device.

If it didn't work for you it probably won't work for me. I found this link in a reddit thread for the same issue. The person who shared it said it shows the same issue at the beginning of the video. Video seems to be how to fix it.

Same issue with my S5 or similar. Final software update kills the phone.
Is this related to Lineage on the phones, or are you talking about bricked phones with original stock ROM?

try leaving it to charge while in recovery as kernel is loaded there and handles charging.
after device is somewhat charged download full latest firmware from samfw.com and try flashing it with odin if device gets recognized, use csc and not home csc to format data
Ok, so LOS does not use the part of the Stock ROM for GPS?
I thought, GPS, NFC, etc... are "recycled" from the original SW
