Rooting OOS12? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hey guys, soooooo I finally updated my 7 Pro to the stable build of OOS12 that's out now. How do you install twrp and root this build??? When I use fastboot to boot a twrp img file, it borks the phone into a bootloop!
EDIT: So I was able to root it by just patching a boot image and flashing that. but is TWRP just not supported yet for OOS12?

Official TWRP for A12 ONEPLUS 7 PRO is now released.
Hello, as I mentioned in the title, you can now download the official TWRP for the official website, and the most recent version supports encryption/decryption. https://twrp.me/oneplus/oneplus7pro.html

what about the bugs and battery drain?

[Newbie Question]TWRP gone after OTA update OSS 5.1.6

I have an oneplus 6 with official OSS 5.1.5 and TWRP installed. But after OTA update my phone to OSS 5.1.6, i cannot boot to TWRP anymore. Is TWRP gone after OTA update? My OEM unlocking still unlocked.
Have u not read anything in these forums, tutorials or anything?
There are like 50 threads on how to upgrade and about the new partitions for op6, it is even clear when u installed twrp too

Hi, just to clarify when you install an OTA on the oneplus 6 it uses the new partitioning system which is different so to remedy the situation just try reflashing TWRP enchilada installer using fastboot.

Previously, i've installed Beta(unofficial) version of TWRP, now i want to re-install TWRP with Official version , do i need to remove or do something firstly?
To fix it just download the official TWRP for oneplus 6 from the official team win recovery project page and then you put that on your phone, and flash using your currently installed TWRP then after that make sure you also install the root package as installing the new version of TWRP will modify the new boot image, Also a good time to mention that it will install in both slots (Seamless update slots) Treble slots if you will just to be aware.

Just follow one of the many upgrade guides. Skip the part about upgrading to 5.1.6 but for the rest follow the steps exactly. No need to explain all this in yet another thread imo. You'll need a pc though.
that's would be great if twrp can be flashed and stays there without wiping as well as root.
Pleasssseeeeee read before creating a new thread

You can't boot into twrp because it's not there anymore. The OTA created a completely stock version of the OS that you're now booted on. You need to reinstall twrp and magisk according to the posted guides. This is going to be the case with all OTAs. The stock updater looks for root, and when it's there, it installs a complete OS, not an incremental update.

Which version of TWRP bluespark?

I just currently got the latest ota and let it install and I installed magisk from the manager by choosing to install to inactive partition after ota. That worked flawlessly and was able to keep root. But I lost TWRP of course. I was using the official TWRP. I've been noticing everyone going to TWRP bluespark recovery. But which one do I download??? From what I understand there is a version for oos android 8 Oreo and a version for oos android 9 pie. I'm on official oos pie. So which one do I need?

Just take the latest official TWRP and you are fine. Trust me.

Thank you. But still would like to know if I decide to use bluespark version.
Sure. If you want to use Blu Spark TWRP use this one twrp-3.2.3-x_blu_spark_v9.86_op6
IMG and zip files are here https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=27466#downloads
You can use TWRP official or Blu Spark TWRP. What ever you like. Blu Spark is recommended for people coming from oos beta to stable

May I ask what the difference is?
Just to add a note to you for next ota.
After ota is installed go to magisk manager
Press download
Search for twrp a/b
Install (don't reboot)
Now go to main screen and press install
Choose to inactive slot (after ota)
This way you keep both twrp and root
Happy flashing

It's been available since maybe a week after Android 10 came out (fixed the problem with fastboot boot). But you may be looking at the "official" TWRP website. You need to use an "unofficial" version TWRP (current version is -76) from the dev's thread here:

I went from Pie 10.0.20.0 to Q 11.0.4.0 to 11.0.5.0.
I wasn't offered 11.0.2.0.

Thanks,
And from 10.0.2.0 to 11.0.4.0 - did you also update the same way, or did you clean flash from fastboot?

I've been using the same process for every OTA since 10.0.4.0.
Only a few updates caused issues.
10.0.9.0 needed a newer TWRP.
Magisk 20 broke TWRP.
When I did the android 10 upgrade I had an issue with some Magisk modules that I had not upgraded. It would have been fine if I'd upgraded them first. I disabled them to boot and then installed the upgraded modules.

There is no such version for Mi A2 Lite.
11.0.5.0 is the newest release (Android 10 with May security patches).
Hi @a1291762,
I'd like to know if
. it is possible to downgrade from 11.0.5 to latest Android 9
. it is possible to use a full working Gcam on 11.0.5 and how to install it.
Thank you!
I'm currently on v. 10.0.18 (I stopped the latest update for Pie) and I have a CSOT screen.

It was only the first Android 10 (11.0.2.0) that had issues with screens. The 2 followups (11.0.4.0 and 11.0.5.0) work on all phones.
In theory, it is possible to downgrade back to 10.0.18.0 using a fastboot image.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/fastboot-xiaomi-mi-a2-fastboot-images-t3824871
To get to 10.0.20.0 you'll need to get the OTA zip and install that. I'm not sure how to do that, but this process seems like it should work: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a2-lite/how-to/how-to-manual-update-v11-0-4-0-users-t4082815
It might be worth checking if people have done the downgrade successfully. For example, the Pie-Oreo downgrade caused modem issues.
There's heaps of threads where people discuss gcams, but I do not know what the state is because I use the stock camera app.

Apparently there was a 10.0.20.0 fastboot, but it's not on the fastboot thread
I don't know where I got this URL from but 10.0.20.0 is http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.0.20.0...0.PDLMIXM_20200327.0000.00_9.0_2baf524aaf.tgz

Question MSM restored OnePlus 9, OTA for C.47 fails at reboot. Fix possible for OTA's to OOS 12?

Oneplus 9 EU version LE2113 has been restored via MSM. OTA updated to latest OOS 11 ok but OOS12 OTA's always fail at the rebooting stage. The "powered by Android" screen blinks briefly, screen goes black until it boots back to OOS 11.
Anyone know how to make the official OTA's work? I want to keep the bootloader locked and ultimately get the phone updated to C.62.
I've tried various approaches: clearing data in Google Services Framework app, installing Google OTA Repair.apk (didn't seem to work), wiping in the OnePlus recovery.
It's no problem to unlock, boot twrp and flash the builds that way, but relocking bootloader is impossible when on OOS 12.
I had the same problem.
Just flash this with twrp

Thanks, but as I said, I want to keep the bootloader locked and get oos12 ota's to boot in the locked state. there's no problem updating with unlocked bootloader but it won't lock again after.
Yeah i have same problem, then we just need to wait when someone upload msm with c.47
Ever find a fix? Same problem with LE2115. Used MSM tool and now can't update past 11.2.10.10
I no longer have this phone.
RIP OnePlus. Good while it lasted...
