How is this going to work with NetOdin?
I don't use NetOdin and i grabbed this from /data/fota inside my watch4. The files are structured the same an a regular OTA and because i haven't checked for myself on this watch....I'm sure this could be side loaded...but if I'm wrong...let me know....I'll add in OP....
Thanks for grabbing it. But in order to flash it will have to be done remotely. Once extracted it doesn't just give AP..CP.. etc. Maybe we need to do this remotely with adb which is possible I think. Just rename it to update.zip . If I am wrong someone correct me.
As soon as I can I will give it a go
Yes sir...
Rename to update.zip (it was that name originally when I pulled it) and adb sideload....i believe.
FOTA Delta aka update.zip NOT for netOdin...
This is only incremental update...
I NEVER found way to use... without rooted Watch...
In theory MAYBE way with rooted Phone...
But I have only tiny brain and limited time...
Best Regards

Thanks for the info. I have followed some of the research you have made available in regards to FOTA/DELTA. You're research has given me some clues as to how to handle other Samsung devices firmware. I'm working on repacking an OTA with a modified boot or init_boot (depending on device) and using same certs to try to pass. By I'm having issues repacking it all to generate a payload.bin which in turn when pushed in the right menu...will output update.zip and in same menu....will allow flash.
I tried to repack to bin file then rename to update.zip. Was able to connect to adb remotely. Repackingfile did not work. Adb sees watch but not file

Yeah that's something on the end of my list...to research on and crack. S22U and VZW P7P...are on the top of my list at the moment. But i figure once this come along....Watch 4 should be a walk in the park as it does have fastboot at least already.
Watch 4 and 5 is not easy...
All things are blocked on Watch side...
A
You have no write access to:
Code:
/data/fota
To push update.zip to this folder...
B
You have NO Fastboot... not with USB cable not without...
Stock Bootloader sboot.bin NOT support Fastboot Commands...
C
Sideload also blocked... also with USB cable...
D
FOTA Manager blocked...
Blocked

.
.
IMHO 1 chance with rooted Phone and activity blabla...
Or someone is able to find way to push to /data/fota
Plan for 2023...
If I have more time I will add few examples... what I mean...
Best Regards

Ahh....so let me ask you this...is "system" the owner of /data/fota? I can check but I don't have the device with me right now.
Really good Question... will check...
Yeah 1 idea was to check this Device Owner thingie...
But was too lazy... and not smart enough...
Long time ago tested with Alliance Shield as Knox not fully integrated for this...
Best Regards
Edit 1.
I mean this:
Code:
ADB shell dpm set-device-owner com.rrivenllc.shieldx/.receivers.DeviceAdmin
Taken from Alliance Shield infos...
Device Owner Setup (QR or ADB) - Package Disabler
Need to know if your Samsung Device is secured by Knox? Not all Samsung devices are. Check here to see if Knox is available for your device.

Maybe something like this possible with Filemanager or...

How about if i told u.....if "system" was the owner and has rw access....wouldn't it be enough to let's says CP or MV an modified update.zip to the directory /data/fota and see what happems
I can not do something in /data/fota
Not mkdir nor something like this...
I will later check what you asked... now I have to leave...

This is for S22...and system is definitely owner that has r/w access...so I'm sure it's the same for Watch 4.

Hot off the presses. Get it here.
That file is the crappy "patch" version that tries to patch you from RC29 to RC30.
Here is the full update, which should be much more reliable
Obviously, don't install it unless you want to lose root access
Update for those who are interested: I went ahead and bought myself a new G1. One of the stores in the area had a couple. It still had RC28 (not RC29) on it, so I'm back in business. I'll just unlock my RC30 one and sell it on ebay.
OMG how stupid can they be... look what I see in the update script

Can we patch this like today cause I kinda think there is more to this than just doing that.

There is. They added a kernel option "console=null", which I suspect basically makes it so that the physical keyboard no longer sends input to the console device. Note that there is still a root shell running on the console though.. it's just that now there isn't any way to send keypresses to that root shell.
Plus there are a ton of patches to the android apps and framework jars and such. Not sure what all changed there.
I'm in the process of modifying the patch, to apply to my phone without losing root access. More to come
What does the "applypatch" piece do?
That part looks different.
Interesting that it's only a 4 meg update, and that it only contains a new recovery.img and a new boot.img - I wonder what is different in those images. I hope they are keeping the recovery stuff in the open source branch updated - because, well, that's the nice thing for them to to do
Jesus Freke - when you get your patched-up version ready, please post it somewhere for us lazy bastards who want to ride your coat-tails
I just noticed something. This update doesn't wipe the system partition. If you had created a setuid copy of the shell ("su", or whatever), I don't think it will get deleted if you applied the update as-is.
but didn't you say it removes the use of keyboard in shell? If so we would still be up the creek. you know what a notice this update came really fast i never got and OTA until this(fishy) i had to force OTA. Well hope you work your magic JesusFreke.
Arg! dangit. I accidentally applied RC30 and lost my root access. I copied the wrong update file to my sdcard... grrrr!
So I'm out of the game. Sorry.
Oh, btw - I was wrong about the update keeping the setuid shell around. It completely wipes the permissions of the system folder, so if you did have a setuid copy of the shell, it will be set back to normal non-setuid status by the update. duh.
Sh**!! You were the shining hope , one question can you still get root through the adb shell? cuz if so you can save your a**
Nope. Like I said, I'm out of the game. Unless someone wants to trade me for a RC19/RC29 phone. Or until another root exploit is found. *sigh*
DOH! That sucks! Sorry to hear that, and thanks for taking one for the team.
So if an update does try to install do we just need to turn off the phone until a solution is found? I may need to go back to my Dash for a while until this all gets figured out!
The update that you meant to put on the card- was it a test? If the worst that will happen is the update will take maybe someone that doesnt mind the update could test it for you?

I'm sorry about that!
Also, I'm confused. Hadn't you updated the keys in your bootloader to prevent an update? Or does that simply prevent the phone from downloading an update?
Can not we flash back that old RC29 File again ????
The update zip contains the boot.img and the recovery.img. so when the update starts it rewrites JesusFreke's mod recovery.img
spoofing
could we spoof the version # on our device? thus ending the nag and the ability to force the upgrade, for the time being?

Yes. But I had accidentally re-signed the full update with the new key and updated my phone with it. I was in the process of modifying the update, and had grabbed the wrong file to sign and update.

You can't remount that directory that unless you have root.
Use the dd command to copy stuff around (the cp command is not available). I should mention I'm a Windows guy, and am pretty clueless with Linux: my coworker figured the rest of this out once I got to a root prompt.
Incidentally, in the /system/bin directory there is a flash_image executable that changes the recovery.img used when you hard reset the device. I've noticed that I can run this without root access from a standard adb shell. Maybe we never needed to root the device after all... I think we can flash it without root access... I'm too scared to mess with that at all though.

Thanks. But you have to have root access for the flash_image command to work. Or more precisely, you have to have write access to the /dev/mtd/mtd# device that you are trying to flash.
I am also the same unlucky guy who had Press Update Button and now we are in RC30
Now what are the chances of our device to get root access or ability to flash Test_Signed code in RC30
well i removed( # delete unneeded files delete SYSTEM:system/bin/telnetd )and replaced the boot.img and recovery.img with jesusfreke's anything else i should edit before i try to resign and update?
This is a Loki'd ClockWorkMod Recovery TOUCH file that I created on my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 with the UCUAMDL baseband.
Flash using loki_flash in a Terminal window (how I did mine) or ADB using the command loki_patch recovery cwm.lok. If running in a Terminal window, make sure you have SU access first and that the cwm.lok file is in the same folder as the loki_patch file. I placed both of mine on the root of my external SD card.
After flashing this I rebooted into Recovery via ROM Manager and Touch was installed.
Hope this helps someone else!
Can you give clearer, more specific instructions on how to use this?

UnRar the file and copy the CWM.LOK file onto your SD card.
Download and save the loki_flash file from here:https: // github dot com/djrbliss/loki/tree/master/bin
Copy the loki_flash file onto your SD card in the same location as the CWM.LOK file.
Open a Terminal session (download and install your favorite Terminal app from the Play store)
In the Terminal window type:
[email protected]:/ $ su
[email protected]:/ # cd /<path to location you saved the files to>
[email protected]:/ # ./loki_flash recovery cwm.lok
* Note - not responsible if this bricks your device. Your best bet is to read up on how to do this yourself at https:// github dot com/djrbliss/loki, save your own aboot.img file and built your own CWM.LOK file.

If this recovery.img file was downloaded from http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager then it is not loki'd by default. I actually just tried to flash the .img file i downloaded from there and it gave me the unauthorized BS and i had to heimdall the stock recovery image back on.
ROM Manager has a script that it runs AFTER the recovery.img file is downloaded that loki's the recovery.img, then flashes it to the device.
Question....

I have full root access with SuperSU on sgh_i337 NC1 SELinux permissive. I froze all Knox related apps with TiBu. You flashed and soft bricked... now my question is.... Is it Knox that gave you the warning about the unauthorized flash attempt? I don't think I can flash traditionally anyway with the boot loader the way it is, but I havnt found anyone else that's fully rooted 4.4.2 either, so this is an original question lol. If I soft brick, I'm pretty well dead at this point, but in for a dime, in for a dollar I guess lol. After a 15 hour hack session fighting with Knox I don't wan to lose now :cyclops: I need a recovery though,

This thread is from 2013, and it's referring to the old MDL firmware. Your on NC1, which came out nearly a year after this was posted... the reason your phone is softbricked is because any loki-based recoveries, etc do not work on devices MF3+. Your want to check out this thread to get help in restoring your device. Remember, next time to look at the date of the posting and to read around the forums before trying to modify your device if you are unsure what you are suppose to be doing.
Your need to use Odin, to flash your phone back to stock NC1. It's in the thread I linked above....
I'm not soft bricked lol... I'm trying to figure out how far I can push it without that happening I have su in /system/xbin & /system/bin... Long story but I needed it there while I was restricted to root access only in terminal emulator for a few hours getting Knox to take a nap. I have learned new respect for that dang little app!!!! I actually got full root without PC/Linux support In 4.4.2 that's... Probably the reason's Knox never saw it happening lol I'm still messed on recovery besides safe strap unfortunately, but I'll take SuperSU over towelroot or safe root any day I grabbed a nap and I'm deodexing my system apps and framework now. I was kinda excited and didn't notice the date... Ty for the help, but Ialready have stock firmware I'd need. I'll head over to the newer thread... I actually have an idea on the boot loader from the decompiled Knox file I've gone thru. The boot loader IS locked, but we have a very limited exploit. Knox has been revamped five times that I caught I believe, and it ridiculously still had the ability to safely uninstall itself like it done early on lol. Crazy! Anyhow tks... I'll head over there. This was just funnier than when I found 'vold 2.0 the vengence' rofl
I managed to pull some files together including the .pit file from my now working tablet and make a fully working 4 file firmware and combo (all in one) firmware that CAN be flashed with Odin. I have tested it on my device and it does work. Since I know people are searching EVERYWHERE for this, I have released a download link for these files below.
Please, feel free to re-post this anywhere, just be sure to credit me.
DISCLAIMER (Obviously): I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR DEVICE AFTER FLASHING. KEEP IN MIND THAT ANYTHING CAN GO WRONG, EVEN IF YOU'RE FLASHING FIRMWARE THAT IS MADE FOR YOUR DEVICE. THE FIRMWARE AVAILABLE BELOW HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED, ENGINEERED, OR EDITED IN ANY WAY TO CHANGE THE FUNCTIONALITY OF YOUR DEVICE. IF YOUR DEVICE BRICKS AFTER FLASHING, IT'S ALL ON YOU.
Flashing instructions:
But first, the requirements:
1) SM-T337A, Obviously, but seriously, I can't stress how important it is that you check that your model number is matched with the model number in this thread before flashing anything.
2) A Windows pc (NOT A VIRTUAL MACHINE! Using a VM to flash your device has a high chance to hard-brick your tab, and make sure your computer is running Windows XP or newer.)
3) Your device's USB transfer/charging cable
4) A Brain (Obviously)
Now then, the actual steps (4 File Firmware):
1) Boot your tab into download mode (Shut the device down completely, then hold down the power, volume down, and home button at the same time until a warning message appears)
2) Download and open Odin on your pc
3) Grab the USB charging cable and plug your tab into your pc
4) If Odin does not show your device in the list (It will display an "Added" message if the device is detected) download the Samsung USB Drivers for Mobile Phones and install it to your pc. You may need to/and it is recommended to restart your computer after installing the drivers.
5) Extract the zip file you downloaded containing the firmware to your desktop or a memorable place on your computer.
6) If you wish to wipe your data and start from scratch, click on the 'PIT' tab and select the .pit file in the extracted folder. Then, click the 'OPTIONS' tab and select 'Re-Partition' and 'NAND Erase All'.
7) Insert the firmware files into Odin. Within Odin, for instance, Click on the 'BL' button, which is where the bootloader file goes. Select the extracted package that has 'BL' at the beginning, and vice versa.
Example:
BL: *directory*/BL_T337AUCU2BOH4...
AP: *directory*/AP_T337AUCU2BOH4...
CP: *directory*/CP_T337AUCU2BOH4...
CSC: *directory*/CSC_ ATT_T337AUCU2BOH4...
8) Once done, verify that you have correctly done all the steps above, click 'Start' in Odin and wait for Odin to output a "PASS" message before unplugging anything.
9) If you wish to flash the firmware, but keep your data, make sure that there is no .pit file in Odin, make sure that 'Re-Partition' and 'NAND Erase All' are unchecked, and make sure that there is no file inserted under the 'CSC' row.
Tutorial (Combo Firmware)
6) Within Odin, Select 'AP' and browse to the directory where you extracted the firmware, and select the .tar package in the directory. There should be nothing else under the other tabs, only 'AP' should have a firmware package in it.
7) Flashing this package (unless you perform the "Developers Tip" at the end of this thread) will wipe all of your data, so be sure that the proper .pit file that came with the firmware package is selected under the 'PIT' tab in Odin and make sure that 'Re-Partition' and 'NAND Erase All' are checked in Odin to ensure a complete wipe of all personal data on the device. If you perform the developers tip at the end of the thread, simply insert the new package you created under 'AP', make sure there is no .pit file under the PIT slot, and make sure that 'Re-Partition' and 'NAND Erase All' are unchecked in Odin.
8) Once done, verify that everything is set and ready-to-go, then click 'Start' and wait for Odin to output a "PASS" message before unplugging anything.
9) Enjoy!
WARNING: If you are seeing sites that charge you money for the files, DO NOT BUY IT. They are scams and I HIGHLY SUGGEST AVOIDING THESE SITES. I didn't have to buy anything. If you do buy the firmware from these scam sites, and your device becomes bricked or messed up in some way, don't say I didn't warn you.

Odin 3.12 Download: https://mega.nz/#!KsZiHKTb!aEHdQgO7JAQeUwdJWqS0xoR3lyJH4ieJ6qTbVKce8Zk
If the link doesn't work or goes down for some reason or if you were confused by my instructions in any way, please let me know.
Developers Tip: If you want to flash firmware without wiping your data, make sure there is no pit file selected under the PIT tab in Odin, then extract your firmware package (extract everything into a separate folder for combo firmware, extract the CSC package for 4 file downloads) and remove cache.img.ext4 then repack as a .tar file. Applies to both combo and 4 file firmware packages. In 4 file packages, cache.img.ext4 is in the CSC file. However, in some cases this may put your device in a bootloop. If you wish to do this on an older device and the cache file doesn't have the .ext4 extension at the end, don't worry, it'll work the same way.
Now that you have the firmware, WHY NOT ROOT IT? Check out my thread on how to do so here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/root-how-to-root-sm-t337a-supersu-t3553848

I'll be honest and say its not easy. Making this firmware took me about 3 months. OTA update files are very different from actual Odin firmware files. If you want to extract the files from an OTA update, I just used 7Zip and went from there.
Lollipop 5.1.1 Root for SM-T337A
@KingOfTheNet - Great stuff. There are definitely some shady sites out there offering firmware for the T337A so thank you.
Not to be greedy but any recommendations on rooting 5.1.1 on SM-T337A. I am trying to remove all of the Samsung and AT&T bloatware and get my Tab 4 running lean and mean. I am pretty sure I went with your firmware - my build number is listed as LMY47X.T337AUC2BOH4.
Appreciate the support.

Your welcome bro, happy to help! I have actually rooted my tab with SuperSU, fully working. The only thing is its temporary, and I avoid rebooting or shutting the device down at all because it's a system-less SuperSU (meaning temporary). I'll make a thread on how to achieve root on this tab later tomorrow when I get home from work, unless someone replies to this before I do (It's late where I'm at).
Cheers!

Appreciate the support.

Hello! ... First of all, thank you for all your hard work! But unfortunately that firmware does not seem to work for me. I'm a little newbie, so I'd appreciate if someone could explain the steps to follow specifically with Odin, as a tutorial or something ... so that I can distinguish what I'm doing wrong.
I uploaded a short video so you can see what I mean... If you could take the time to watch it and tell me what I'm doing wrong, that would be awesome.
Here it is: youtu.be/9JsLVJ-xHMA (I cannot post direct link since I'm new user)
I've downloaded some files with name ATT_T337AUCU2BOH4_T337AATT2BOH4.zip (1.19gb) put by poorusernamebychoice and their tar.md5 file is gone 404.
Now i need some help here, this zip contains:
AP_T337AUCU2BOH4_T337AATT2BOH4_HOME.tar
BL_T337AUCU2BOH4_T337AATT2BOH4_HOME.tar
CP_T337AUCU2BOH4_T337AATT2BOH4_HOME.tar
CSC_T337AUCU2BOH4_T337AATT2BOH4_HOME.tar
MILLETLTE_USA_ATT.pit
This is big file so now I'm stuck what to do or i start a fresh download from above links.

Do you mean you need to re-download the files or you need help with flashing them? Dl links are at the middle of the thread.

It's actually very easy, that's why I didn't put any instructions in the thread, I just assumed people knew how to do it by now. But I'm happy to provide instructions to those people who don't know how. Instead of posting said instructions right here, I'll update the thread with instructions.
Cheers!

No, this thread is for the Tab 4 8.0 AT&T. Please make sure you consult the relevant forums for your device model as doing anything meant to be done on different devices can be catastrophic.

Finally got the instructions up. You can check the very beginning of the thread for instructions on flashing. Just remember, I will not be held responsible if your device is bricked after the matter.
Cheers!
Since T-mobile hasn't posted it, I'm surprised no one has saved off the update for others to download. If anyone gets the notification that the update is available PLEASE save it (plug it into your PC and select file transfer) off the device and provide a link to help the rest of us out.
Much appreciated.

Hey there!
I haven't downloaded it yet but I did receive the notification. How would I able to save the downloaded OTA on my phone? I never thought to do this, to tell you the truth.
Thanks.

I forgot to add this: Where in the internal storage would/should I look? I need to back up my phone anyways, therefore, this is a perfect opportunity.
Thanks.
After it downloads you should be able to say "wait to install later." It should be around 360MB I hear. If you have an app that shows file sizes it should locate this as a large file on your device. Like Free Cleaner and File Manager, from the PlayStore, if you go under Memory, go under large files, it should show you the location. Then go there and zip it up and save to another directory like Download. And then upload to Mega.nz or another file sharing site. Thank you for helping!!!
i needed the TMobile modem if one of you guys could share that it would help
i am uploading it right now. I am in desperate need of a persist.img from tmobile device. some how I managed to delete my only copy and my backup to the cloud I guess never was completed. if you could do this for me I would be ever so grateful. ill have the update in about 10 min

Quick update: My phone keeps rebooting after downloading the update and lands back into the tmobile splash screen and into the home screen.
What am I doing wrong? Reason being this is that I'm trying to preserve this OTA myself as well.

This is exactly what I need as well, just the modem.bin or NON-HLOS.bin whatever is on the modem partition. I suppose there is a way to pull from adb as well. However, not knowing what is in the OTA makes it quite difficult to see if there are mulitple modem partitions.
Go to system / build number / click it 7 times (it should say you are now a developer), the enable USB debugging. Trust the computer you plug it into (it will ask you on the screen of the phone), then type:
adb pull /dev/block/by-name/modem NON-HLOS.bin
Something like the above should work and save to your fastboot directory, where ever you ran the ADB command from. Then you can zip that file up and upload and we get all the new modem bands.
my problem is i use TMobile and changed to eu and global my 4g is 120mbs 5g 44mbits it was 198 i needed it to test if it changes you fastboot flash modem_a or(b) i could use someone who has TMobile modem backed up in twrp i can give everyone img then
i think i found issue with 5g nr is turned off i used settings database editor to change from 0 to 1
Would this help with 5g speeds? Also I have already updated, but I plan to keep my TMobile 8 stock so I'll try to get whatever files you guys need. Currently at work though.
see where i flashed modem

Do you have to be rooted for it to actually save? I followed that app's instruction and gave permission via ADB but it doesn't seem to save for me.

I figured that would probably be the way. Just wasn't sure does too the fact the app Setedit made it seem like it would save if you just gave it permissive over adb. No rush on you doing that though. Not sure if I'll be investing into all of that yet. I don't mind stock enough to modify yet.
Ok so where's the OTA download link?

T-Mobile variants don't give you the wait option it restarts immediately. Also you can't get to where it saves the update anyway without root. There's another way of doing it and we are waiting for it to be pulled

There Isn't a screen recorder or secure folder on the SM-A226B you can use calculator+ and flash a android 13 GSI to use the screen recorder.
You can enable screenrecorder by modifiying some lines in /system/etc/floating_feature.xml
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>TRUE</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_CONFIG_SCREEN_RECORDER_ITEM>-pip</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_CONFIG_SCREEN_RECORDER_ITEM>
Without spaces. If there is already the value simply change to this. I'm working on a way to enable secure folder in my free time. First tests were successful however there are still some problems. I'm extracting files from A13 5G (SM-A136B) because it has the same chipset as A22 5G and has secure folder

thanks!!!! will this work on any other phone other than a226b?
and do you know of any file manager app that can actually edit system files (i have a good one called filemanager+ but it can only read even if i do mount -o remount,rw /
Yes, it should. If this doesn't work there is another line that may need to be changed. Make sure you have at least one ui 3. Updating Samsung Capture may be required (https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/samsu.../samsung-capture-5-4-22-android-apk-download/) Let me know.
I do not know any good file manager because I modify system files with Magisk. You can use termux. Pull file to pc or use quick edit on phone.

um how can i fix "system partition doesnt have enough free space" when trying to convert newer samsung capture to system app
You don't need to convert. Just update with apk when phone on. Like every app. I made a mistake in the link. I fixed it. The file should exist on every Samsung one ui device.

oh bruh i deleted system app and reinstalled
An apk of Samsung capture must remain in the /system partition in order to get priv-app permissions
I recommend you to reinstall original firmware (One UI 5.1 if it is available in your region) then modify floating_feature.xml.
This file is placed in every samsung device in /system/etc/floating_feature.xml
You do not have to create nothing. Just modify it add that lines. In my firmware (official one UI 5.1) the second line is already placed in the file. So I simply added:
<SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>TRUE</SEC_FLOATING_FEATURE_FRAMEWORK_SUPPORT_SCREEN_RECORDER>
in the middle of the file

For me it is working. The file floating_feature.xml needs to exist. if it doesn't exist this means your firmware version is old and it doesn't have modern one UI. I don't know how I can help you more
