Google authenticator app wont work to secure google account - General Questions and Answers

I'm sorry if I should be posting this in a different place. But there isn't really other places that are providing help with this issue.
Here is the issue. When I go to my google account on my computer. I go to setup 2FA. Now for some reason, I'm already logged into my account on my computer. Now it's asking me to login onto my phone. I should be able to get a 2FA code from my computer to put into my google authenticator. I would have to log out of my computer account. What's the point of having to login into my google account from my computer. If it asks me to login into my phone. I'm confused.
When I researched the issue I found something about back up codes.
I get to this part
At the top, tap Security.
Under "Signing in to Google," tap 2-Step Verification. You may need to sign in.
Under "Backup codes," tap Continue .
There is no backup codes options. I even go to more option, and there is no back up codes option. I'm assuming I'm going to get a backup code on my desktop computer to enter into my google authenticator. But I'm not finding it? What is going on here? Is there a way to get that code?
I want to get my code to protect my google account. And then on my smart phone that I don't have it connected to the internet. I want to add that code to the authenticator so I can use 2FA to protect my account. Am I doing something wrong here? Or is google making this extra complicated? The google authenticator says to Scan a QR code or Enter a setup key. I know it seems I should be posting this issue some where else, but I'm not getting a support there. And I know you guys use phones a lot and have experience with phones. Do you have this issue with google authenticator? Because the google authenticator app itself doesn't say anything about signing in. In the first place. It just says Setup your first account. And if I'm logged into my computer on google. Why have that option if they don't want you to do it from there in the first place. And there google authenticator says nothing about logging in
Update:
Well, apparently you need to be logged in online on your mobile device. Otherwise when you go to your web browser and login there and then go to setup 2FA it wont see the device. And it won't give you a code. I'm not sure why they have it setup this way. But it can be any android mobile device I believe. Even if vmware if you so choose.

[Q] Remote Sign Out

Does anyone know any way to remote sign out your google account on
the computer through the phone ?
I'm pretty curious how no body thought on this simple app, that just shows
you all the places your logged into with your google account, and gives you
the option to log them off. Is it matter of security ?
Is there anyway to do it through your google account itself ?
Something like facebook's "Active Sessions": Here
Thanks in advanced.

[Q] Google Account Comptimised - Gmail and Gtalk dont function now

My house mate has an un-rooted HTC Sensation. Recently when going to Gmail on her PC browser she got some kind of message about her account had been accessed from another country and she needed to verify via call or text.
She verified via text and I think changed her password.
Now, Gmail doesn't notify her of new mails, she has to go in and refresh. Also, trying to open Talk means a black screen appears and within a split second it closes, no errors.
I've tried clearing data on all Google apps. I would remove the account and re-add it, but it says I can't as apps are tied to the account.
Any ideas what has happened and how it can be fixed?
Give the Accounts help page a try.

Thanks, but I can't really select any of those. Logging in is fine.
(How do I correct my spelling error in the thread title! lol )
You might be better off using her PC in that case.
I selected option 2 from the original link (I think someone else is using my account) and it lead to this:-
If you still have access to the email address you use to sign in, visit our password assistance page to reset your password and to prevent anyone else from accessing your account again in the future.
Note that resetting your password requires your account recovery options. If your options aren't suitable to reset your password, click the link to the account recovery form (learn more) which will appear at the bottom of the recovery options page.
Click to collapse
and then to this
Account recovery form
If you find yourself locked out of your account and none of your other recovery options work, your last option is to visit our password assistance page, and click the link underneath the recovery options to verify your identity. This will take you to our account recovery form.
Take time to fill out each section of the form to the best of your ability. It was designed to ensure that no one can gain access to your account except you.
For example, if you use Gmail, you can provide the verification code you received when you first created your account. The verification code is a unique set of letters and numbers that identifies you as the creator and owner of your Gmail address. Since Google doesn't collect a lot of information about you when you sign up for an account, we will also ask you questions like when you created your account, what Google services you use, and who you email frequently (if you use Gmail).
If you fill out the recovery form and aren't successful on the first try, you can try again. Make sure to wait until you receive our reply before you submit another report. Important: Try to provide as much information as possible on each attempt. Each submission is evaluated independently.
If you're unable to recover access to your account using the recovery form, you can create a new account. Gmail usernames cannot be recreated, so if you were using Gmail, please pick a new username.

What I'm saying is, none of them apply. She's reset/changed her password now and can use her account no problem. The issue is app/phone related.
I have started a new thread in the mobile section of the Google help forum though, thanks.
Right I'm with you. Confusion rules!

Pause Google 2-step Authentication

Hey guys, so this is a really random question, but here it goes.
A few weeks ago I was flashing some Android ROM and long story short (I can't remember the details, that's the problem), I was on a thread here that guided me to a page in Google's Account Security (it was a legit .Google.com URL, I double checked before clicking it) that allowed me to temporarily disable my Google 2-step Authentication for a few mins. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I have been all over The Googles and cannot find ANY mention of temporarily disabling or pausing the 2-step. But I KNOW I did it! What the heck!! I feel like I'm going crazy (which I cannot completely rule out). Does anyone know what I'm referring to? THANK YOU!!!!
Hey, just in case anyone stops by this thread, I finally found what I was looking for!!

Allow a new application to access your account
As a security precaution, Google may prevent an application from accessing your account if it's the first time we've seen this application sign in to your account, or if it's attempting to sign in from a new location.
If you want to allow an application to access your account:
1. Click the Continue button below
2. Sign in using the application you want to authorize access to your account within the next ten minutes. Google will remember the application after it signs in, and will allow it to access your account in the future as long as it uses the correct password.

[Q] How to exclude device from Google account without having it?

Hello,
I recently borrowed tablet that I needed to create app for some company, that was the chief's son tablet. I did the job, gived it back and was sure that i logged out from my google account. But right now on my google account in "my apps" I see thousand of free apps and I am scared that this kid will start buying paid games on my credit card. I contacted chief via e-mail, but till now there is no answer. Cannot contact him personally because right now I am not in the city.
So is there any way to exclude one of devices from my google account via web browser on my computer?
Can't you just change your Google password instead?
Well, I didn't thought about this, actually I can do it if there is no other way. I do not know how complicated it will be, because I have this two-step verification login etc.
I don't believe there is any other way of simply deleting a device from your Google account.

Recover google password

Hey buddies, I'm looking for some help
Basically I changed the pass of my main Google account one week ago being sure that my browser saved it like I always do but it didn't happen.
I forgot it (prob I'm missing some words) and I can't retrieve it because Google is a ***** one, I tried many times to recover it fullfilling all the camps but I can't complete the recovery mail one since the mail that i I linked with the acc is expired somehow
So I'm looking for a way to recover the pass directly from the phone since I'm still logged in there, I tried with sniffing packets within my wifi but I got nothing and with looking for some database but nothing again
Any ideas or software that can help me out?

There is no need to use software or any kind of "hack" to recover the password if your are signed into the device with that account, as you claim you are.
If you're signed into the phone with the same Google account, use the "forgot password" feature, it will send an email to your gmail account, then just open the gmail app on the device and then find the email they send to change the password. If you are signed into the device with that account then you have access to the gmail app and the email for that account so this method should be sufficient.

Hello mate, thanks for you reply.
Yes, I'm logged into my main phone with the account that I'm trying to recover. If I do the "forgot password" feature from the browser or from the phone directly it will ask me the same things like it already did. I can complete all steps apart the mail one since the recovery mail is expired (my bad that I didn't change it).
For that I'm looking for some software/tricky way.
Regards.
