Question OEM Unlock / Fastboot - Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

Hi. I have SM-F711B. There is no OEM Unlock option in the developer options. I came across this article (https://www.droidwin.com/boot-into-recovery-from-fastboot-mode/) in which nothing is written about the need for Oem Unlock. Can I install TWRP, root or custom kernel this way?

Hi,
yes you are correct there is no mention of Oem Unlock in that article, but you do need to unlock the bootloader before you can do anything.
I found this post from a few years ago, it might be worth a try?

I'm wondering if it's worth trying to flash a different CSC maybe EUY

I tried another CSC, not exactly EUY, but it had no effect.
Originally the phone had csc PLS ( Poland, Europe). Uploading EUX didn't change anything.
I also changed csc to EUX with SamKey.
Do I need to wipe data when installing a different csc (EUY)? or can I use home_csc ?
btw. Do all z flip's 3 have snapdragon?

Sorry. I added here reply to another topic. How to delete this reply ? I can only edit.

Yes they're all snapdragon and yes flashing a different CSC will wipe all data. Having said that I'm now not sure you can even do this with a locked bootloader.
At this stage I would take it to a local phone shop and tell them what you are trying to do and for a small fee they should be able to flash and fix the OEM option. But a data wipe is probably inevitable.

I can flash any region firware with odin without unlocked oem, but only stock firmwares.
Actually I think I found answer in this topic https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-unlock-option-in-developer-settings.4223533/
and flashing EUY wont help

(Sorry this is the only topic I found mentioning "fastboot")
How to have fastboot mode on the Z Flip3?
If I boot in recovery mode, I can see "reboot into boatloader", but not "reboot into fastboot".

there isn't a fastboot mode as such, you can reboot to download mode and use odin for flashing or adb for anything else

Oh, but I need a command with fastboot. So I suppose it's just impossible with the Z Flip3.
I will search a workaround. Thx

adb should do the trick, instead of say 'fastboot devices' you type 'adb devices'

No, I wanted to change the IMEI, it seems that (if it's still possible) it requires fastboot.
(I bought a phone, rooted, installed everything, and then discovered it's blacklisted, the seller will send another but I wanted to try to change IMEI for fun and see if it works.)

About the bootloader and root.

I've just purchased the phone and the massive amount of bloatware, lack of adaway and the useless bixby button instantly made me want to root. However I have a couple of issues.
First off, I don't even know if my bootloader is unlocked. I tried the phone dial technique and the fastboot technique and both of them did nothing. I also tried looking in the devs option for a "oem unlock" option, but it appears to be missing from my device. So, how do I check if my bootloader is unlocked?
Second off, I have the snapdragon variant, which means no twrp for me for now. However I did see that cf-auto-root supports my device, so that's some good news. I haven't been in touch with the android community for quite a while now, but I did see that a better (apparently), open-source alternative exist to supersu : Magisk (I'm particularly interested in the "hide root" feature). Can I install Magisk even after rooting with cf_auto_root (which installs supersu iirc)?
Thank you for your time.
Sorry, but cf-auto-root does not support the Snapdragon variant sadly.

I may be wrong, but I think it is supported.
It requires an unlocked bootloader or a phone capable of accepting fastboot oem unlock / fastboot flashing unlock. I wish I were wrong, trust me..
Oh that's too bad. How do I know if my bootloader is unlocked though?
I would do a little reading here as this has been discussed numerous times. Unfortunately, you need an unlocked bootloader to use any of the root tools out there. All of these sites have a disclaimer noted regarding not working with a locked bootloader. So sit back and grab a beer...may be a while until we see root...if at all.
If you have a snapdragon...its locked.
Hey guys thanks for the thread.
I'm in the same boat here, Snapdragon version Galaxy S8 in Canada. If anybody knows or hears anything about a way to unlock the bootloader in the future so we can get all this Samsung garbage off our phones that wouldn't be amazing.
Thanks guys

That was the command to unlock the bootloader, to see if it's unlocked you can try this:
Step 1 : Open your device’s dialer (App where you enter telephone numbers to call someone).
Step 2 : Dial the below code, it will automatically open a new windows. (if it doesn’t opens anything then use the second method).
1. *#*#7378423#*#*
Step 3 : Now in that window go to Service Info >> Configuration, and see if there is :
1. Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes >> This means that your Bootloader is Locked
2. Bootloader Unlocked - Yes >> This means that your Bootloader is unlocked
If this doesn't work you can try this:
Step 1 : Download and install adb & fastboot package & drivers in your system (Google it for your device).
Step 2 : After successful installation of adb & fastboot, connect your device to your PC via USB cable in fastboot mode.
Step 3 : Now open the folder where your adb & fastboot package is extracted, press Shift key on your keyboard and right click in the folder and select “Open command prompt here“.
Step 4 : It will open a Command Prompt window.
Step 5 : Type the following command to check if the device was detected in fastboot mode.
fastboot devices
Step 6 : if you don’t get device it or anything it means that the drivers weren’t correctly installed or the device wasn’t connected properly, if this happens try reinstalling your drivers.
Step 7 : Next run the following command to check the status of your device’s bootloader.

Help with flashing!

I have a SM-G930VL and have seen many threads from 2016-now that have been able to flash the 930U firmware but anytime I try flashing it can not get it to boot. I'm either in a bootloop or a recovery loop where it will never boot into recovery. Any help would be appreciated! I can answer almost any questions but I don't want to list them in case anything important gets lost in the list.

Yes but you still need the correct G930U firmware for your region/country.
Your phone needs OEM and usb debugging enabled, not essential when flashing firmware but often helps.

You'll need a patched Odin to flash G930U on a different model, otherwise you get mismatch errors. You can get it from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/patched-odin-3-13-1-t3762572
The OEM unlock step only applies to Exynos since that unlocks their bootloader, the toggle does nothing on USA/Snapdragon devices.

I feel like such a dunce...........I used this one to flash the 930U onto my 930A model so I even already had it. I just thought I had already tried it. After ~8 hours of working on this, it is done. Thank you so much!! I guess if you thought you tried something always try it again to be sure haha.

Question Is the SM-A125U different?

Is my A12 (a125u) different and unable to be bl unlocked/rooted, etc? It has OEM unlock in dev options....?
Did you figure this out? Looking to do the same... Also can't find a firmware for it, please share what you did if you had success. Thanks!

Yes, the A125U has OEM UNLOCK in the developer options......you can turn that ON by going into : settings > about phone > software information ...and then tap BUILD NUMBER several times until you see that you have enabled "developer options". Then you go into developer options and turn on OEM UNLOCKING.
Before updating firmware recently OEM UNLOCKING was greyed out. But now I can switch it on. Now the question is, can this variant be properly bootloader unlocked and rooted. The known repository for downloadable firmwares for Samsung phones DOES NOT seem to have this variant firmware for download. And I wonder if that is required for this to be properly rooted.
Galaxy firmware has the firmware for this variant. I have the att version and I can't seem to unlock the bootloader. Holding volume up in the download screen does nothing. Any luck?
Bump, I have all same questions.... Anyone figure anything out?
Before I had tmo Sim unlock my phone the I set the oen unlock to unlock now its not there at all
Anybody rooted this yet ?
anyone know the interchangeability of the firmware between the a125u and other versions
I wish to know as well

i was able to root this sm-a125u very easily... downloaded A125WVLS3AUL1 firmware (canadian unlocked) flash the full stock rom and was able to unlock bootloader as simple as holding down all buttons when going into download mode, it unlocked it that way and was able to flash twrp, magisk and its all good
I have a similar issue but vice versa. I bought a US version (SM-A125U1) only to find out months after that the dual sim option is locked and i think the only way to unlock it is changing the firmware. Now I need help to know what I can do to, please.

To root a phone's Android unlocking its bootloader is NOT required.
You simply have to add SU binary to Android's filesystem and make this binary executable.
I want to oem unlock bootloader for trwp and roms but I can't find oem unlock in dev settings and tried the video above and a couple of other things I found
You need the Samsung flash tool and the version of android for the phone and su +twep+magisk is optional good luck
Ps. Allways back up everything!

I am not trying to flash custom ROM, just to tweak the system kernal settings.
I seen someone mentioned to root w/o the OEM unlocking switch available, all that is needed is to flash the SU binary with Odin.. I haven't tried this yet but I am almost positive Odin for windows doesn't even read the Samsung devices without the bootloader being unlocked.
Anyone care to chime in here? i'd be very appreciative!
Mainly WTF is the OEM unlock switch not available on my device. I actually have 2 of the same devices and both are without the switch.
Also would flashing SU work and do the trick?

General SM-908B Root / OEM unlock discussion thread

right, ive spent all last night and all morning trying multiple things to root this device and all have been unsuccessful
the firmware i have tried for the following steps is S908BXXS2AVDB (exynos)
with adb version 1.0.41
oem unlocking isnt possible as far as i can tell after trying various methods
via adb and in the device using the modified date / time hack
i know some of these next steps were unlikely to work but, until you try your never certain
i have tried just flashing a post magisk patched ap, with csc and / csc home
i have tried pushing the patched ap as a sideload via adb through recovery after unpacking the .tar and also repacking as a .zip
i have tried pushing the boot.img from the extracted patched ap via adb sideload
i have tried flashing the stock firmware NOT setting it up and trying to flash the patched ap over that
im out of ideas, has anybody else had any luck ? or methods you have tried different to mine that didnt work that i can add to the op

Not after a refresh, you have to wait a week I think it is, but you can mess around with date and time to get it to show, but even doing that once your in download mode it shows as locked still
Ok, it was visible. You switched to allow unlock, correct?
If you then boot into bootloader, do you get the option to unlock it?
