Question November update is bug fest - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Hello everyone,
My Pixel 7 Pro experience has been so far smooth ride but since I received November update it is definitely more buggy, than it was. From time to time I get freezed screen (only something works, like pulling notification tab, but nothing else) and I have to restart device. Camera app opened from lock screen often closes itself when tapping shutter button. Do you also have this kind of behaviour? No root, no mod, no nothing, everything stock.
Plus additional bonus from A13 feature. Replying to messages in landscape mode is just dumb. Can't see what I'm writing. Can't press send button.

I don't have these bugs and yeah, landscape mode has never been ideal for a lot of things. This isn't new.

Before update I had only minor bugs like invisible watch widget or invisible spotify in notifications. But since update it got much worse and I have to regularly restart device.

I too haven't been experiencing anything out of the ordinary, and like Ethereal said... Landscape is always so and so but I was able to scroll the uhm... reply box? Notification?
I don't know when, but Google used to do a full screen text box for landscape text but seems to have gotten rid of it, maybe you're intended to scroll what you want to see?

No problems on my end. In fact, it's only gotten better (especially the signal quality) on the November update.

Yes experience frozen screen code of times.

Updated my phone to November patch 3-4 days back, not had any of these issues. Has been just as stable as October for me.

I guess you can scroll but it doesn't make sense when there is a lot of unused space above. It just looks unfinished.

It doesn't happen everyday. But it already happened in the morning. I woke up, took the phone and home screen was frozen. I couldn't swipe or open anything. Only notification tab was working. Had to restart the phone. I have to restart the phone like every two days. Definitely expected more from clean Android. MIUI had much more features and wasn't as buggy as this.

No issues here on the nov update either, if anything its an improvement over the oct update. I'm really looking forward to the dec update though, that should really improve things.

It might not happen every day. But for me it hasn't happened at all, and nor for most other users if this thread is any indication.

For me, I have part of the keyboard freezing up and not recognizing touches when using FB messenger in bubbles for long time. I mean at least having the bubble open for a long time

I think the point might be it's unrelated to the update.

Mine has been super stable with the November update - zero issues actually, which is rare for me.

Well, I do have errors since the last update:
The phone does not wake up after a long time without being used. It does not work double tap on screen, or change the position of the phone. I have to press the power button to wake up.
On one occasion the lock screen was hung with the semi-lit fingerprint sensor, but pressing the power button was solved.
Of course, the previous update was much better.

Indeed, it might be, it might not, I'm not suggesting it definitely isn't at fault.
However, where it didn't happen for you prior to the update, it hasn't happened to myself and many others (most others?) either before or after. This suggests the update being the cause is no certainty, contrary to the thread title, rather that it is something being assumed by virtue of the fact it's a change that has taken place.

Yeah in theory, but in reality it is hit and miss month on month. In saying that it has been far smoother than the Pixel 6 series

Only issue I've had is text box randomly not popping up with keyboard in Messages and Chrome input boxes. So input field stays hidden underneath Gboard. But I was having this issue in last update too

also i've noticed the Level tool in the camera now is tilted about 4° to the right, so i had to disable it.

My Status Bar Clock is missing since the update. :l
edit: System UI tuner helped

Update QF3 available for sprint 7/5/17

new update available. says "security , new device features " , its the android june security patch and possibly a new feature
If your using the no root hotspot it still works through update!!
It installs weird too after rebooting it restarts then the screen will black out and say "installing applications"
then it will say software is custom until the update notification at the top stops. even though it already popped up a toast that said successfully upgraded yet that still has to fill up (in the notification) then it all goes to normal seems smoother than ever
I am applying it right now, will follow up if I run across any issues.

Thanks. So there is more than just security patch in it at that size.
All I know is the last update(not this one) broke my phone, My system app crashed randomly, vibration would continue to vibrate after calls were answered, very slow response and frequent random resets. Notifications would either not appear or not disappear. One time I lost all my home screen apps. The problems were so severe I decided to upgrade to the S8.
After this update my phone runs like new.... too bad I already decided to buy the new S8.... although my 'excuse' for needing it apparently has been fixed by this update, Now I just want the S8.

Strange moto G3 touchscreen response problem

Hi all, I did a search with no luck, so hopefully this is a valid question!
I have a weird problem with my moto G3 2015 and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind reading about and possibly offering some kind of advice if it's not too much trouble.
Every so often, I'd say at least once a day, the screen becomes unusable until I press the power button a couple of times (to turn the screen off and on again). Even when I do this quick fix, the problem comes back very shortly afterwards. It only goes away after 10 minutes or so, or if I get annoyed and put my phone away. I thought this was a hardware issue but don't believe that now due to the following:
1. It is a different problem depending on the app I am using. In facebook, scrolling is no longer smooth, and doesn't continue scrolling if I flick down the feed. It only scrolls down while my finger is actually on the screen. I am also unable to actually 'click' on anything, only scroll. In Brave (my browser) it acts as if I've just double tapped the screen, as in if I move my finger down it zooms in, and if up then it zooms out. In snapchat when watching a friend's story it acts as if I've held down on the screen in order to forward their snap to somebody else, and then it doesn't respond at all to any touch.
2. The 3 buttons at the bottom are always functional no matter what
3. If the problem begins when I'm in an app, if I go to my home screen, I am able to navigate my home screen and app drawer with no problems. It's as if the problem is contained within the apps.
This started a few months ago while I was running the copy of android that the phone came with. I put on lineage OS (lineage-14.1-20170629-nightly-osprey-signed) and pico gapps (open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170629). This seemed to fix the problem for a while but then it started again a week or so in.
The fact that the problem is only happening while I am in the apps, and disappears when I exit out of them makes me think it can't be a hardware issue? I am also no expert with phones or android, but am somewhat experienced in rooting and playing with settings etc. (I'm not sure if it happens in other apps I'm afraid, I can test if need be next time it happens).
Thanks so much for any help, and please let me know if there is any more info I can give you!
P.s. The new ROM is much better than the old one.! The battery definitely drains faster though, but that's a whole other problem

That is actually typical behavior on older devices using as many social media apps as you're using. Especially Facebook and Messenger if you're also using it.
Have you tried booting to recovery and wiping cache when this happens?

When I flashed lineage OS I believe I wiped the cache. I will do it again though to see if it helps.

Hi there
If the issue was software related, a change of rom should have solved it.
If the issue is kernel related, all users must face the same issue...but that is still not the case.
So This might be an issue with the screen being old. When the power consumption fluctuates, lcd screens can misbehave.

Android Pie Stable: Issues and Fixes Thread

Since we've been talking about Pie in at least four different threads, I thought I'd create a single one to address, list and possibly fix all the issues that are being experienced with the gradual release of Android 9 on Nokia 7 Plus. Mods: I'm assuming this is helpful, but if you think this thread is redundant feel free to delete it.
IMPORTANT: Before you do anything or think something is broken, make sure you restart the phone twice once you've installed the update. If issues are still there, you might go for a hard reset which is always helpful for creating a clean system environment.
In any case, you're welcome to add to this list and help others find solutions. This is what I found so far:
Battery draining
Most users noticed a decrease in SOT, for some this is even 2-3 hours less than on Oreo. While it might be peculiar to Pie itself, it is worth noticing that the new Adaptive Battery feature takes some time to adjust according to how you use your phone and learn what apps to handle and how. You should also check that no app permissions have changed since the update, or that no unwanted processes are misbehaving because of it (see below).
@trveller72 points out a neat trick: deactivating the automatic Battery Saver (Settings > Battery > Battery Saver > UNCHECK "Turn on automatically") seems to extend battery life a lot.
Heating issues
Regardless of the SOT, these should not be there. I experienced the thing myself and in deep October no phone should burn into one's pocket, whether idle or when doing some light browsing. If you're having heating issues, this is most likely related to processes misbehaving and abusing your CPU when they shouldn't (either because of an application bug, or because of something gone wrong after the update). In this case you should launch the ADB command
Code:
adb shell top
which returns the CPU usage of your phone (make sure, of course, the phone is connected to your computer and has USB debugging enabled). This might give you an idea of anything strange going on and allow you to act accordingly. Or you could go for a hard reset like I did, which is a nice overkill solution and grants that you carry over no unwanted issues from Oreo - and it also recovered some SOT for me.
No adaptive brightness fade effect
I experienced this myself: the screen goes from 0 to 100 brightness in a millisecond and you're blinded forever, never to see your loved ones' faces again. This might possibly be an issue with the personal settings brought over from Oreo. In my case, I solved it to a degree by playing with the bar a bit, and it was solved completely with a hard reset. I think the fade effect is a bit faster in Pie anyway, so there is a degree of difference you should not worry about.
App notifications not disappearing
Notifications for some apps tend not to disappear when you swipe over them. For instance, this is true with the "HDR processing" progress bar of the PixelCamera mod (or better yet, in some versions of it). No fix for now, you just have to force quit the app and hope it is made compatible soon.
UI and Animation glitches
As with all first releases, this one is not perfect yet. I've personally encountered some animation glitches with the reception of nested notifications (especially in the lock screen), non-standard DPI settings, app-switch animations, volume control when writing on your keyboard, and minor stuff of the sort. While most of these are system-related and will have to be fixed in next releases, for in-app glitches make sure they are correctly updated and compatible with Pie; you could also try deleting cache/data, uninstalling and reinstalling them.
In particular, some report an issue where the bottom part of the touchscreen stops working after prolonged inactivity, regardless of the navbar settings. @k3dar7 suggests using XDA Navigation Gestures (no root).
Digital Wellbeing
Yes, this is not compatible with Nokia 7 Plus yet, despite it being in DP4 (iirc), the feature is still unavailable although installed on the phone and already collecting data, and can be enabled by subscribing to the beta program (thank you @divvykev). Downloading it as an app from Play Store won't be possible, but @Redcap56 kindly points out that a working version is available for download at APKMirror.
"Non-issues"
(i.e. things you're probably complaining about but are actually feature-dependant)
- The new gesture-based navigation is not available. It's there, but you have to turn it on under Settings > System > Gestures > Swipe up on Home button
- Mobile data is always active even when on a Wi-Fi. Yes, unlike before it is, but you can turn this feature off in Developer Settings.
- There is a maximum number of possible notification icons before the dreaded "etc. dot" appears. Nothing that can be done, unfortunately. This was decided by Google regardless of not all phones having a notch.
- File Manager is gone. And FilesGo is now there, like the child you never wanted. And most likely you never wanted it because it doesn't allow you to browse folders. The old file manager can still be accessed through the Download app or in System > Storage > Files. If you can't see the internal memory, make sure the option is ticked in the three-dot dropdown menu.
Digital Wellbeing does work!
Installing from apkmirror worked for me: apk/google-inc/digital-wellbeing (I am still not allowed to post url)

Thanks for the heads-up, it works indeed.
By the way, before getting the APKMirror version I had just found out that Digital Wellbeing is actually installed on the phone, just inactive.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vYzZE5zB3LNLAckAUlRMkWoXPMjkD42M/view?usp=sharing
When I updated it with the APKMirror one it could show me statistics from all the past day, which means two things: one, it's already collecting data and it's creepy. Two, it's in a working state as it was in DP, so shall we expect that it becomes activated with the next OTA? (or when marketing-wise it's no longer important to make it Pixel-exclusive?)
If I search on internet, Digital Wellbeing is only available on beta version for Pixel phones on Android Pie only.
I think, when the beta is finished, we have all access to this functionality
Wellbeing is available. I found it be looking for the app in the store but found that it was installed. Signed up for the beta and hey presto....there it is. Can't see it being of any use to man or beast but hey ho.
Am on Pie stable btw.

Thank you, I don't find it useful either but this is good information indeed! Post updated.
I don't see any difference between latest beta and this so called stable one, all the issues persists.
Phone heating is really pain in the a$$, especially while charging (most of the time, not always though). I have seen "Temp High, Stop Charging" notification 3 times in a row now.
I have some issues with displaying apps since Pie. For example, when I'm playing music with Youtube Music and Maps has a picture-in-picture overlay the YouTube music app will flicker heavily and the album art won't be visible anymore.
Same for the normal YouTube app and SwiftKey.
Anyone else experiences this?

In Snapchat messages, the screen can flicker so much it's unusable. It's usually cause by putting the cursor before an already typed word.

High temperature while charging is very, very bad. If you can't solve this, I'd suggest you go back to Oreo before the battery is ruined.
In any case: did you update directly from DP? Did you check for strange processes via ADB? If you haven't done it, a hard reset can be very helpful as well.

Not with the same apps, but I experience this as well. Only advice I can give is to try what you can for single apps (i.e. clear cache/data, uninstall, reinstall) but you probably did that already. If it isn't solved this way, only the next OTA (and/or the next app update) will solve it.
But yeah, this is definitely a thing. I have heavy flicker in some setup wizards for Google apps (most notably Lens) and the volume control will flicker at all times if shown while typing on the keyboard.

Actually that should suffice AFAIK. If I were you, I'd try downgrading to a stable Oreo and updating from there. I'm really not sure about it, but probably some bad code is brought over from the beta? But that temperature is definitely not normal, especially if you already did a factory reset.

Maybe some app is behaving inapppropriately. I have done Hard Reset and will see if the problem still persists, else I will degrade.

Not sure if you did that already, but the adb command I wrote in the first post can be useful to check that. Good luck anyway!
The stable pie update is a full rom, not an incremental update, so it doesn't matter from which version you are upgrading, after a reset, no trace of the old operating system remains
I might be wrong but I think the issue with the screen on time not lasting as long as it did in oreo in one of the updates they decreased the speed the battery charges or the curve it charges at, I can't remember where it was mentioned but there were issues and they said it will be addressed in pie, this could be related to the battery getting hot while charging as mentioned by @valexbast .I personally haven't had this issue with screen on time being less but I use my old Samsung charger 2Amp 5V most of the time.
I am having (albiet minor) bugs when adjusting the display density and font size both to their smallest. The lock screen pin entry sticks to the left side of the screen, and notifications & quick settings change themselves randomly to the wrong density and back again. Nokia support refuses to acknowledge these bugs exist but I have seen a few people around the web with similar issues. I did not have any of these issues on DP4 which is interesting!

While helpful, I noticed that Nokia support is often instructed to "pacify" the user and assure them everything is normal. But I guess they're taking notes. I haven't tried changing display/font size but the bugs you describe should be easy enough to fix in the next update.
I don't think any of this is app-related anyway, even when we're talking notifications from certain apps. So here's to waiting.
Edit: by the way, I'm a long-time lurker and only newish user so I'm really not a veteran, but hey... welcome to XDA!

Annoying "Phone is starting..." delay on boot-up. Are you experiencing this?
Recently, I got the Note 20 Ultra.
For a couple of days, the phone used to boot clean without any delays.
During boot, there is now a progress bar that appears on a blank screen with text above it saying, "Phone is starting..".
The progress bar on the blank screen eventually goes away with an icon in the notifications saying,
"Phone restarted Unlock your phone to get app notifications"
Are any of you encountering this boot-up delay on your phones? If so, have you fixed it? I'm also familiar with a brief delay after an firmware update, but this is unfortunately not the case. It occurs after every reboot.

Never seen this on any phone I've had. How did you initially set your phone up? If you copied data and apps from another phone that's probably your issue.
Just rebooted Snapdragon At&t. Said Phone is starting for like a second. No delay

If I'm not wrong :
Since Android Pie all smartphones powerful enough had to be encrypted.
This delay is the one needed to decrypt the phone.
You can disable it in the security settings.

Yup, I've had message pop up in reboot on my last 3-4 phones. Not exactly sure when it started and it's kind of annoying that it happens. But since I don't reboot very often, I just deal with it.

My AT&T 10+ always shows that bar at startup, normal... no encryption.
The 20 U's memory is faster so it shouldn't persist as long which only is 1 or 2 seconds. How many autostart apks you got will effect that time length though, I believe.
The app Autostarts will show you what is insisting to be loaded asap on start up.
If it's a 3rd or unneeded system apk you can tone it down by disabling/uninstalling/package blocking them.
I have the same on my Note 20 Ultra.
Not sure what it is, but from memory (I might be wrong) it was not like this before. Maybe some installed program is causing this...

I have Galaxy Labs too.
PD MDM as well but I think that kicks in before the bar.
Now I'm curious it is a 3rd party app because I don't think I saw at first after I did 2 reloads recently.
Interesting.
I think it's just a Android thing, I always saw this on my Pixel so I'm not surprised to see it on Note 20
Since the update to Android 10 on every device I've had, it does this now. Is it really that much a bother for a few extra seconds? Not for me, I don't worry about it as it's quick and can get into the phone very fast after a restart.

Maybe it did start with 9. I don't remember exactly lol. Not an issue tho, a couple seconds at most

Curious which apk is doing it.
It's interesting it's happening on Q too.
My Note 10+ did this and so has my Note 20 Ultra straight out of the box. Hasn't bothered me any, since it shows up for maybe 3 seconds at most.

Question Has anyone installed android 14 beta on google pixel 7 pro

what problems do you have, if any, and is it worth installing?
Its not worth it! It's a buggy mess right now I would wait for beta 2. Just look on reddit and you'll see all the problems it has.

Only bug I've seen is the modem. I'm on wifi most of the time anyway, but the signal strength
isn't as good.
Oh, I did have another bug. The app bluemail was crashing when it opened it. Emailed the
failure report to google & the app developer. Less than 24 hours later the app developer
sent me a link with an updated beta app that fixed it.
It is the biggest bug party I have ever seen.
Couple bugs that happen to me currently:
- Online banking app no longer works.
- Home screen is just glitching and all apps disappear.
- a lot of Status Bar Symbols missing/ or glichting
- Screen can't be opened with fingerprint sensor, for whatever reason.
- And yes, many apps are not updated for Android 14 yet.
Wallpaper and style not working/crashing here and sometimes a bit lag. The rest of the problems mentioned here not on my 7 Pro. Fingerprint, modem, all 102 apps (some are new betas), including banking app are working without any problem. Provider: T-Mobile
Before you enrol:The updates that you’ll receive as a part of the beta programme are pre-release versions and may contain errors and defects that can affect the normal functioning of your device.

So be careful and make a wise decision

In addition, dark mode will not stay on; you'll have to toggle it once an hour or so. I would say it's an Alpha.
Probably I must be the lucky one that everything is going well! Battery for me seems longer and it doesn't warm anymore when watching videos or dimming my screen as during A13 Qpr... the only issue so far for me is the usb-c audio not working.

Maybe i'm lucky too, but i'm having no issues other than when i sometimes go to compose a new sms, the app (google messages) freezes and causes system wide freeze until i lock the screen with power button and then it's back. Hardly ever send sms these days anyway. no biggy

Installed the 14 beta. Not faced any problems so far, apart from "com.android.qns" crashing every time I boot the device. But it does not affect the cellular connection.
Battery OK, no other app crashes.

I reset the app data for QNS and the crash went away for me.
