Hi everyone. I could really use some help sorting this out. I bought the Indian version of the S22 Ultra S-908E to have call recording enabled and it's coming next week. My question is whether I'll have any issues connecting with 5G here in the US over the AT&T network.
I realize the phone does not have the mmWave band, but from what I've read that is rarely useful in most situations unless you're in direct line of site with the tower, which in most cases is not realistic.
More importantly, though, it looks like AT&T uses just two bands - n5 and n77 - both of which are present in this E variant.
Does this mean that for my purposes, reception, call quality, signal strength, and battery usage on the AT&T network should be no different (i.e. no worse) than if I were using the US version of the same S22 Ultra?
Are there any other issues or considerations to be made, or is it really just as simple as the fact that if AT&T is using the same bands that are on my phone, then I'm good to go?

Just wondering, as probably the major complaint with my G2 is the network speed, especially when tethering. I live in a great 4G coverage area and my friends with Galaxy II's get much better speeds than me, so I know the upgrade would be worthwhile.
Anyway, I know the Galaxy II, Amaze, and Blaze are all "full" 42Mbps, but finding info on the network specs with other devices is kinda hit-or-miss - the same phone can have numerous numbers listed across the web, but I have no idea which would be the most reliable source.
For example, I have no idea whether the recent LG Mytouch phones support 42Mbps or something lesser, and I'm considering one for the low price and specs at least equal to my G2 (don't care about camera as I have a decent P&S).
I commented on AP about the Samsung Mega, I want a tablet with phone functionality, instead of having two devices. The two most common comments about using a tablet as a phone are:
1. "It would look SILLY NEXT TO YOUR EAR!" My response to this, is that I don't use a phone like that and haven't for years. I either use a wired Jlabs headset, or a Plantronics voyager bluetooth headset. Well, I don't hold it up to my ear unless I'm wearing my tinfoil hat, to protect me from all those cancerous cell phone rays.
2. "It won't fit in your pocket!" Ya, well, my phone now doesn't go in my pocket either. It goes either in my handbag or my backpack. So no problem there.
So, with those two problems/questions out of the way, what tablet will work for this task? From what I can find, only two tablets can accomplish that task. Both are available in the UK and I can import them. The two that I've found are the Note 8, and the ASUS Fonepad. Looking at the specs, the Note 8, is the stronger of the two, in almost every way.
I know the Note 8 can be the tablet I'm looking for. But can it be the phone I'm looking for? I'm not so much worried about data, as I am about cellular coverage. I already use my tablet (GT-3110 Galaxy Tab 7 2) mainly at work and at home on WIFI, and I occasionally take calls on my phone (GSM Galaxy Nexus on Straight Talk). I'd like to buy the international version of the Note 8 to use as a phone, but I'm really confused about data vs voice.
From what I understand (and tell me if I'm wrong), but the voice part of your phone is GSM and that runs on the 850MHz and 1900Mhz frequencies in the US. If that's true, I should be able to receive calls on T-mobile/ATT/Straight Talk on the GT-N5100 as it runs on the 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz frequencies, correct?
The LTE version, the GT-N5120 runs on GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz as well. Shouldn't I be able to recieve the same call quality from either tablet? Should be able to have the same clear cellular voice calls on ST that I have now on my Galaxy Nexus? If I'm right, it's only the data speeds that would be different?
If I get the same data speeds I get now, with my GN, I'd be happy. I can listen to Google Music, check email and surf just fine on my phone here in Madison. I usually get 3G and sometimes H+ on my GN, but that's usually more than enough data wise. I had a 4G phone on Verizon, and that was great, but it wasn't 35 dollars more a month great. I'm not watching Netflix when I'm on the bus. That's really the only plus I found to having 4G. Anyway, the data signal I'm getting from my ST account (at 45 a month on a T-mobile ST SIM) is more than adequate. But I'm trying to figure out if I'd have the same data signal and I don't want to spend $500 to figure it out. So...as data goes....
my interwebs research has pointed me to the fact that I might be stuck with edge speeds because as far as data goes T-mobile runs its 3G data on the AWS or 1700/2100 MHz frequency, and that is not supported on the Note 8. Correct? It only supports 2G/EDGE speeds because it only has support for the 19000MHz frequency which is what Edge/2G speeds run on unless your area has been refarmed, and according to this crowd sourced map, Madison has not) correct? It looks as if AT&T uses the 850/19000mz frequencies (PCS) for 3G speeds, so I could get 3G speeds on ST with a AT&T micro-sim, correct?
Just trying to figure out how to make this happen, if it's at all possible. Your thoughts?
Hi
So I recently upgraded to the standard S6, and I've been experiencing very, very bad cellular signal reception. At places I would have good (or sometimes even great) signal with all the LTE phones I've owned throughout the last months (iPhone 5, Xperia Z1, Lumia 920), I'm getting very poor or even no signal at all. Not to mention mobile data basically not working at all.
As far as my research goes, I'm definitely not the only one experiencing issues like this. Even a friend of mine who bought the same S6 on the same carrier with the same contract has experienced similar issues. Though there seem to be a lot of "affected" phones, there isn't really much of a solution available online, so I figured one of you might be able to help.
Would really appreciate any tips and workarounds, or even some more people having issues like that with their S6's.
Cheers!
I've just purchased a Galaxy S6 and it is without doubt the worst phone for reception I have ever owned.
My 4G signal at my home on my old Galaxy S5 was always 3 to 4 bars on my S6 im lucky to get between 1 to 2 bars.
It would help if you told us where you live, what carrier you're with, what model s6 you have, is it carrier branded or international unlocked, have you talked to your carrier's customer service, etc. Without any info it just sounds like Samsung bashing.
I get less bars than with my moto x2014 but I get 4g+ instead of 4g and 4g+ is faaaaassssst
Mine is exactly the same signal bars as every phone i've owned but has much faster data and clearer calls.
I would say you either have a bad phone, bad network, or issues with a mobile mast in the area etc etc.
Comparing to past phones is useless because what worked yesterday might not work today. Intermittent issues anyone?
Mine is currently in repair for poor signal. I doubt they will fix it, I think they designed the S6 antennas extremely poorly.
Forgot to update this thread, sorry. I recently sent it in (ofc covered by warranty), and it is far better now, but still not quite as good as on the other mentioned phones, HSDPA is still pretty slow right now and I rarely get LTE. So if you're facing simmilar problems, even though I always hat to do it, I recommend you send it in to Samsung. Also, consider asking your carrier to give you a newer SIM-card since that could be a reason to from what I've heard.
So I recently picked up a Note 9 international version with the exynos proc on eBay because I need dual sim and wanted to test it next to the OP6 and I have been noticing a few interesting things in regards to cellular connectivity.
For reference I have both ATT and T-Mobile - I run dual sim one for work and one personal.
I have been testing LTE speeds around my house, where I have very spotty LTE coverage but no issues making phone calls. My one plus 6 regularly shows LTE+ and that i have 3/4 signal. However, my Note 9 Exynos shows that I only have one bar of "4G". Mind you I know that this is not a carrier version so I am likely not getting any carrier aggregation on the Note 9.
That being said, when I use either my tmo or att sim in either phone my LTE speeds are identical even though my OnePlus is showing significantly better reception. I find this odd as I would assume that my speeds would be better on my OnePlus because of CA and the snapdragon modems.
Outside of my home I notice the same things. The Exynos will have the same speeds as the OnePlus 6 around town. I have been taking them both with me to test this... painfully swapping out sim cards...
Does this seem odd? Should my OnePlus have better speeds than my note 9? I am doing this purely for research I am not looking to measure which phone is better here.... I love both phones and cannot decide which to keep. I just find that the signal strength is not indicative of actual performance. This isn't going to sway me one way or another I guess I'm just wondering why the OnePlus is showing better connection when it really does not seem to be performing any better than the Note 9.
Is this just a case of comparing apples and oranges?
Your effort is admirable but you might have wanted to check the real signal reported (measured) by the phones under
Settings - about phone - status - sim status - signal strenght
That's the value the phone measures. On the other hand, the 'bars' sitting in the status bar are just a non-standardized graphical representation of how much is a certain value.
Does it make sense?
Anyhow, the fact that both the phones reported similar speed, even tho being an empirical test, might mean that they have similar signal reception.
That's based on my knowledge...

Well, hat diggity dawg, haha. I was looking for that for days.
Thanks for pointing that out. I just checked and sure enough in the same location in my home the signal strength is identical. I've been back on my OP6 today and man the gestures are just so nice and the phone is so snappy. The note 9 is too but there is just something about the op6 that makes it feel that much faster.
Try to increase animations speed to 0.5x (in dev settings), feeling will be even better

Hi team,
Want to get a few opinions on which version I should get. I'm on O2 and the choice is between the Exynos Global version or the N986n Korea version based on reports here that it has the highest chance of getting 5G.
I am quite a light user. I listen to music during commutes. Browse the Internet throughout the day, check banking, reddit, watch a few YouTube videos and regularly check social media. I DON'T do any gaming or workloads that are considered heavy. I do, however, love taking photos.
Currently rocking a S20 FE 5G and usually have around 40% battery at the end of the day on 120hz.
I don't use a second sim and have no need for native call recording. I am a tinkerer and happy to change CSCs, flash new roms etc but I don't plan on rooting and intend to keep Knox intact.
Let's pretend price is not a factor in this decision making process.
The lesser performance of the Exynos will likely be unnoticed by me. As long as the battery gets me comfortably through the day I'm happy. From what I have seen there is minimal difference in camera quality between the two models.
Is the Exynos model for me or is the Snapdragon still the way to go?
Do you need the S-pen? If not, or even if you do, can you wait to see what the S21 brings, possibly in only a few weeks?
Price and performance aside, are you bothered about warranty and/or local support?
Here are some thoughts based on my experience with the Hong Kong N9860....
5G does not work for me on EE, but it does on Three and probably Vodafone. Nobody seems to be able to comment on 5G on O2. I'm not that bothered about 5G in all honesty. Technology and bands are still in flux and the future will probably not be met by current models. Rollout is thin on the ground and I've seen speeds locally of 200Mbps using 4G+, which is ample. I have to go out of my way to find a 5G signal, so lack of support is moot for me.
Nonetheless, I have tried contacting both EE support and Samsung support about the absent 5G and nobody wants to know. As an imported device they really couldn't care.
Firmware updates are slow. I am still on November security updates, despite a new firmware released in December. UK models have the December update already and, I believe, were included in the beta program, unlike my phone. I don't think the HK N20U is receiving the attention customers would like and there is nowhere to turn for resolution. If the phone actually goes wrong it's a return to HK. How long and how much cost involved? Who knows?
Basically, the phone meets my needs, has the superior processor and I saved a bundle on price, but support in the UK for this model kinda sucks. That's the gamble. Would I import again? Not sure. I think I'd rather wait until the UK versions (of whichever phone) are shipped with a non-inferior processor. With hindsight maybe I would have been happier with the S20FE5G - except the cameras. Arrrrrggggghhhhh!!!
I have no idea how function and support would be for the Korean version. Maybe it would just work and no support required, but....... ?
p.s. Supposedly firmware optimisations have improved the Exynos Note. No idea if true, but if you're happy to tinker you can always debloat and hopefully save some juice that way.
I did the same thing with the S20 plus, 5G did not work (not a huge issue right now) and updates were slow.
Other than performance I was also hoping for a decent functioning gcam but had no luck with that, plenty of apks but never found a config and ultimately the stock camera was better.
I would not import again. Currently have the exynos N20U
Snapdragon battery rocks. Have never charged mine more than 80% and end a heavy use day with around 20% left. Everything works but Samsung Pay and 5G on EE. Samsung S20FE is a great deal though, everything but the S- pen, why change?
