Troubleshooting MX Player Stutter - MX Player

Hello,
This is my first post regarding MX Player but I think it could be useful for others if they find themselves in a similar situation.
I recently purchased a new Android box for streaming and have been using MX Player without issue for a couple years.
When installing the latest version of MX Player(1.52.1) and Latest version of codecs (1.49.0 ARMv7 neon) I have intermittent stutters and videos sometimes crash or fail to play.
I have a T95z Plus model. 2022 Upgrade Android 12
OSAndroid 12.0CPUH618 Quad-core cortex-A53GPUMali-G31 MP2RAM4GBROM32GB
The specs are similar or identical to my previous unit. I replaced due to frequent crashing and software annoyances.
My solution was to find a downgrade. I'm not sure if posting links is acceptable here but google is your friend.
In my case I was able to open MX Player on my old unit and browse the About section in the settings drop down.
There I was able to find the current version and codec version that I knew to be stable.
The version of MX Player that seems to be working without issue for me is 1.48.9 using Codec version 1.44.
Hopefully someone finds this post useful and google will find this thread. I was unable to find any solutions after a couple hours of searching google and the xda forums.

Hey
MX Player's HW decoder is nothing but a thin wrapper around Android MediaPlayer implementation on the device. If you are facing this with the HW decoder, it's likely due to a firmware bug or the video profile exceeding the device's capabilities.
Please try selecting HW+ by selecting the HW icon on the player window and check again. This may provide a better experience in case of firmware issues. If the problem persists, please collect a bug report and share it with us at [email protected] along with a video recording so that we can get this checked.

Mxplayer paid version issues on Huawei P9 plus

Hi Devs, found an annoying issue with using the paid version of Mxplayer ver 1.7 and 1.8 on the Huawei P9 plus. This phone uses a Kirin 955 SOC and it has codecs support for almost all codecs as reported in Aida64.
If I use the paid version then the audio will suffer periodic glitching every 10 secs or so for a split sec. The ad supported version has no issues at all.
Anyway I proceeded to test with the ad supported version of Mxplayer and found the following issues with HW+ decoding:
h264 All fine, no Hi10p support
h265 All fine, no 10 bit support
VC1 HW works but HW+ not supported, no seeking support though
MPEG2 All fine
RMVB Seems to drop half the frames
DivX3.11 Closes Mxplayer
If you need any logs collecting then pls advise how to do that, thanks.

Kindly read the sticky thread about how to collect the logs.!
BTW, as far as I know Both MX Player Free & Pro version shares same internal modules except Free version has ad modules while pro has License verification modules. So, it's less likely to see a performance difference.
There are some possibilities
1. You might be using different versions of Free & Pro.
2. Might be using different settings.

Ok, I reinstalled the paid version and didn't manage to reproduce the sound glitching, perhaps because it has the Ad version installed as well? Anyway here is the first bug where VC1 playback works on HW only with no seeking possible. If I try to switch to HW+ it reports not supported. Bug log attached

MX Player 1.8.21 for x86 not recognizing external codec

Hi all,
Having a problem with MX player on an x86 tablet -- I upgraded from 1.7.40 to 1.8.21, and it was a mistake.
MX player 1.8.21 does not recognize the external x86 custom codec I downloaded from xda-developers.com (keeps telling me it wants the 1.8.6 x86 codec), nor does it seem satisfied with the x86 codec downloaded from the play store (settings -> decoder tells me that a custom codec is not in use). Playback is no longer smooth, it is jerky and unwatachable.
I tried to go back to 1.7.40 by downloading the .apk from the MX player website archives, but that doesn't work -- when I run it, it says I need a codec and redirects me to the play store, where the only option is the x86 codec for 1.8.21 which is not recognized by MX player 1.7.40. Even though I have the original x86 codec for 1.7.40, there is no way to get to the settings menu to direct it to the external codec.
So, what do I do to get back to a working MX player? Can I get 1.8.21 to recognize the x86 codec? Or how do I get back to 1.7.40?
Thanks!

I can answer most of my own questions -- it turns out the "mx_x86.zip" from the download section is version 1.9.0 (I didn't notice the "Version information" said 1.9.0, I saw the "currently 1.8.6.1 is named 1.8.6 because MX player expects 1.8.6" above that). I found the correct download in the Google drive link, old version.
However, even with the x86 codec, 1.8.21 still plays video files terribly -- jerky and stuttering.
I found a version of 1.7.40 on apkmirror that didn't automatically direct me to the play store, and it recognized my original 1.7.32.rev1 x86 driver. Now, the playback is smooth.
Also, another thing I've noticed is that subtitle rendering is MUCH worse under 1.8.21 than 1.7.40 -- karoke effects cause the subtitles to be "static" unless "enable SSA acceleration" is checked, but then it looks like the subtitles are rendered to the original video resolution and then scaled with the video to the current window size. This is OK for 720p scaled to 1080p (I have a 1920 x 1200 display tablet), but for DVD resolution (480p) it causes the subtitles to be fuzzy.

Ok, looking at bug reporting thread now. Do you also want info on the 1.7.40 install that works?
I'd also have to provide the video file -- it's a 1.27GB file, any recommendations on how to send it to you?

MX Player Pro 1.9.10 does not now play mpeg video

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 - 2014 Edition tablet running Android version 4.4.2.
I purchased MX Player Pro in October to play some videos on the tablet and everything played well. Today I noticed that those same videos do NOT now play. Instead I get a message that says "Mpeg2video not supported". Needless to say ... this now you see it ... now you don't is beyond frustrating.
So I uninstalled and re-installed the MX Player Pro app, and still get the same error. I suspect that some recent updates might be cause but I cannot be sure as updates happen automatically usually. I would appreciate some advice on troubleshooting this problem.
Try the custom codec. It adds back functionality the developer took away.

If you're not sure what kind of chip you have, the "All in One" file works for all. It's just bigger.
Download to storage, go into app settings and point the decoder to that file.

I'm interested to know how you go once installing the custom codec, there's a thread here:

Where I am discussing poor performance once the codec is installed.

Mx player pro fire tv problem

Hi all,
My problem is when I go to watch something through mx player pro on my fire tv box it plays for around 10 seconds the the blue circle comes on and it changes the codec to hw if it was on hw+ to begin with and it does the same the other way round.
If I leave it to play after this happens then it crashes around the 30 minute mark?
I have mx player pro installed on my fire stick and it works fine.
Are there any known issues when using a fire tv box with mx player or is it just something I need to change in the settings?
Any help greatly appreciated
Tia

MX Player Pro is not available for the fire stick devices. From where you have purchased? If you are using a patched version, the issue could have caused by the improper patching.
HW decoder just uses the Android MediaPlayer API implemented on the device. When It fails with an error, it will try the next decoder (i.e HW+). HW+ Decoder basically uses the same system decoder but on the MX Player's media framework. Since both fails, either it could be an issue with the decoders implemented on the device or it could be an issue with the content. Kindly collect a bug report and share with us. It will help us to investigate further.
Thanks for that info
Do you have a Bluestacks? If not then you must install it first in order for the apps will run faster and better.

My MXplayer has stopped supporting HW+ decoding

Hello:
Until 2 days ago I was using MX Player without problems on a Sony smart TV with an ARM Cortex-A53 4-core MX Player to play GDrive streaming files in Kodi even if they were heavy thanks to the HW+ decoder. I got a message on the screen that I should update the Codec and it no longer supports HW+ decoding. I have tried to put a previous version of MX Player but it is not solved and I have updated Codec 1.21.0 and 1.10.50 and it has not been solved either.
If someone can help me I would be so thankful.

Hi Frampu07,
We would like to let you know that MX Player doesn't support the direct playback of Google Drive links. So, it might be due to the recent changes in GDrive API or your Kodi add-on. Request you to contact the add-on developer for further assistance on this.
Thank You! Looking forward to your continued support.

Thank you very much friend, I understand. I had also thought that it could be from what you tell me or it could be a hardware problem or my smartTV. See if it happens to someone else and know how to fix it. Regards and thanks for everything.
