Question Built-in download manager notifications! - Google Pixel 7 Pro

Guy anyone knows how to turn off the built-in download manager notifications? Or have a 3rd party download manager override the built-in one? there is a section in the download manager notifications called "done" and "queued" and they can't be modified in anyway. I just want it to stop playing sounds every time I download something. Thanks in advance.

Is it handled by one of those 2 apps or the browser? I don't have anything to download ATM to test it out. I use Chrome, so things normal pop up under silent notifications if I remember correctly.
If you can't modify download manager to be silent, what you can do is set the custom notification sound to be "none" instead of default.

If you open the google app called "files" you can see the download manager I'm talking about. I believe it is not a part of the browser but I know it handle the downloads from Google store and other apps besides the browser. I could not modify it notifications in anyway. When you can try test it out and let me know if you are able to change anything.

When you download something, have you tried home clicking the notification to see where it's coming from?
Under Files, there's no notification channels for me, and u can't remember ever seeing a notification coming from the app before. I do see multiple channels that deal with downloads under Chrome's notifications though.

Nevermind

Long press on any notification that you want the notification to change somehow. Press the gear icon and customize the notification, including the ability to turn it off completely.

That's what I'm trying to explain. Doing exactly what you suggested above still won't make me able to change anything. I download a file. See the notification on the top of the screen then log press it to go the options on the download manager and see the notification section but the notifications section labeled "done" and "queued" are are but activated and there is no way to turn them off.

If you go to Google files "blue folder icon" then Apps> System Apps> and fine download manager> notifications you should see "Done" and "Queued" but activated but greyed out and you can't change them. And yes clicking the notification will take you to the same download manager I just mentioned but what I explain doesn't require you to download something to get to that section.

All download manager notifications can not be turned off including the three options below it.

What app are you downloading the files in? When I try an example download in Chrome, and I long press on the download notification I get this:

You should be able to click "Turn off notifications" here if that's what you want. If I click the Gear, I get lots of options for disabling, or you can click on the name of each notification (screenshot below) to customize beyond just turning them off and on (and apparently there are more than one pageful of possible notification types to customzie):

If you tell me the name of the app that you're doing the downloading in, I can try to replicate it and see if I think of anything else beyond the idea of changing what app you're downloading through.

Oh those options in chrome I know of and yes they are the same as yours. But for example I have an app called reverse image search-multi "from google store" which uses the built-in download manager I sent the picture of above I get that issue. Same as other apps I have that utilizes the built-in download manager.

What browser do you use? My downloads aren't coming from download manager at all, but specifically Chrome. I just set custom sounds up for download manager so I know when it's coming from that.
Your option still exists to set a custom sound to none though.

Ahhhh.
So then yeah, it seems like the other channels of Download Manager are already silent, just change the sound to none for notification tones to silence the one that can't be changed.

That did silent it. But isn't it odd that it can not be turned off/modified by anyway? I appreciate your time helping me out.

I just checked out the app you mentioned since I wasn't sure what apps I have that would use the generic download manager. At least you can keep them from showing up on the lockscreen (if you have the lockscreen display notifications at all).

Try the NoLED app from the Market, and set it to light up on GTalk. I use it on my SGS4g, and it works great.

I am sure you could do this with Tasker. You would also have to get "Secure Settings" from the Play store. Also you need to be rooted. It will probably take some research, but when I did a Google search for (tasker "screen on"), I got a number of hits that looked like they had the info you would need.
Also, Tasker is great for automating many other tasks on your phone so it is worth the $6 and change it costs.

Want the screen to wake up on getting notifications
Hi guys.
I'm using a Motorola defy plus with Gingerbread. What i want is, my screen to light up when I get any notification like sms, email, whatsapp etc.
I tried the app LightFlow which does the job quite well, but its consuming a lot of RAM. Same is the problem with Popup Notifier. I dont even need popups, I can perfectly live with the status bar notifications. I just want to screen to light up, in the locked state.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks!
[deleted]
Hi, thanks for the reply.
However, I'm not looking to pay for such a minor functionality. Also, using two apps will consume even more RAM than what the other two apps i tried did.
Please suggest something in the free domain.
Thanks.

Buy and download Tasker by CRAFTY APPS and download Secure Settings by INTANGIBLEOBJECT
Make sure that under your phone settings, accessibility, services that Tasker is ON.
Go into Tasker and make a new profile. Select Event, UI, Notification, select the "Owner Application" as the app that you want the screen to light up for when a notification from it is received.
Then, as the task, click new task, add an action, click Plugin, click Secure Settings, configuration "Edit", click Wake Device, select the things you want it to do and for how long, then click the save icon in the bottom left corner. It should then work then.
Tt should work now. Thank me if it does, let me now if it doesn't

[MOD] [REQ] - Notifications

I have some feature requests. Can be Xposed modules or flasable zip or w/e if possible.
I'm running totally stock and XPosed on top of it and not able to get just some couple of features which I loved from other ROMs.
- Notification Download speeds : Now, when I download something from playstore, a download notification comes on the top. When I expand that notification, it gives me the current download speeds. This was in purity ROM, if I remember correctly. Any way to get it on stock?
- notification vibration - Now when I expand any notification , it always vibrates the phone. I don't know which ROM/module had this but I would love to get that feature in stock. Any way?
- delete screenshot/video notification option : Now, I remember this was in cataclysm. When I for example do a screen shot of the phone and when I expand the notification containing that screenshot, I used to get 2 options : "Share" and "Delete". In stock rom, I don't get this. Any way to have that?
That's all.

Notifications download speeds: my completely and utterly stock N5 shows download speeds for web downloads (Chrome), but not for play store because notifications are handled by the app and not the OS... Play store will only show percentage and time remaining... I guess this might be injectable with Xposed?
vibration: this already happens for me on completely stock ROM when swiping downwards (or upwards) on notifications to expand or collapse...
Screenshot: I get "share" on completely stock with a screenshot but not delete. Seems like this might be one you're likely to get externally...

Yes, I'm guessing purity has modified playstore then. Vibration part is that I want vibration to not happen, not the other way around. Delete option - can't find it anywhere at XDA. I hope some dev sees this.

I'd be surprised if Purity did modify the play store itself; the modification would be undone every time the play store updates itself... It's more likely they might have modified the notifications or injected something between vending and systemui?
Misunderstood your request for vibrating notifications: "when I expand any notification , it always vibrates the phone"..."I would love to get that feature in stock" :silly:

Probably. I'm sure purity won't give the support for a Xposed module for that. Let's see if this thread get's any attraction from some dev.

Light Manager

I have never used Light Manager before, but the idea of different colored lights for different types of notifications sounds useful. I have tried to get it to work for the past 3 days, but I can't find a combination of options that will work.
Is anyone using it successfully who might let me know what their configuration is?
I appreciate your time.
Did you remember to turn on the LED in your phone settings? You go to Settings>Notifications>Tap the gear in the upper right. Make sure you turn that switch on.
When you first open light manager it will prompt you to allow notification access which can be found under your phone's settings>apps>little gear at the top right>special access>notification access. Make sure light manager is checked. (It asks you to set that up right when you first open light manager)
After that just it should start working. Go into light manager and start setting up your colors and stuff. You can test each notification you set up (just have to make sure to turn off your screen while the test is going on)

Oh ok awesome. I didn't try that mode but will give it another try with that mode enabled.
I also had some issues with LF. My gmail functioned as it should, but I could not use sms or other apps. The developer told me how he got things to function properly. I have had no issues sense. Here is what you need to do. Just change out the app you want for notifications.
I'd recommend the following.
1. remove the contact specific notification you have set up and the standard text message notification.
2. get a text message from the contact you want specific notifications for and don't yet read it.
3. go into lightflow, notification settings and press "+" and select from all installed apps and select messenger.
4. Press "+" again and select from an outstanding notification and select the unread text message and select it and click add.
5. Find this notification and click on it (then press the pencil icon in the title to give it a meaningful name)
6. Enable the "notification person matches..." switch
7. Finally in notification settings click on the 3 lines with an arrow button at the top and drag the contact specific notification above the default messenger notification.
This is the setup I use on my 5x and 6p and pixel. It also allows you to do similar for pretty much any app or for example switch when a particular word is in a notification so it's quite customisable.
Cheers

Notification Peeking

Is there any easy way to bring back notification peeking settings on Android pie as I need to turn it off for some apps and not others but still get visual and audible feedback (no do not disturb mode). If anyone knows an app that can do this or if it is possible to directly port it from Oreo I'd appreciate it.

I think your talking about heads-up notifications... in order to disable that on a per app basis.. just go to settings/applications and find the app you want it to stop for and choose notifications. Choose the specific notification category you want to stop and change the 'behavior' from 'make sound and pop on screen' to just 'make sound'. Hope that's what you were looking for!

Probably not very useful for your case but on MIUI13 I have no problems with AOD notifications. everything appears there.
Have you enabled all the apps in Settings>Notifications and Control Centre>Lock Screen ?

I popped out for a bit this morning, and Strangly, I had a missed call, and text notification waiting for me. Seems to take a bit of getting used to the notifications on this, some apps only notify when I open them, even if they're set to lock screen.

You need to disable this for every app you need consistent notifications. Hold your finger on the app icon and then select App Info. Then scroll down until you see " Battery Saver" Change it to " No Restrictions" for all the apps you need. Also from that page, you can enable the Autostart option
