Meanwhile... Android 12 usable? - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

Hey together
at the beginning of the Update cycle to Android 12 I were hyped about a New Version. After a few days it was Just Bad, stuttering etc.
I rolled back to Android 11. So the question now. Is the New update worth now or should I stay with A11?
Greets

I'm quite happy with OOS 12 after having used it for more than 4 or 5 months.
There's a few things that I miss from OOS 11, but they aren't vital. And I'd rather have the latest security updates than the missing features.
I also find that battery life is just as good as on OOS 11.
Note, however, that I only use one SIM and don't use 5G or VoLTE so I don't run into some of the mobile networking issues other people have with OOS 12.

I haven't had any issues with it.

Out of the game - Rom Recommendations

So its Feb 2021, I feel like my HTC U11 is dying, I've been stock since day 1, but after not being able to take pictures of videos of my kids yesterday because my camera was stuttering like mad, I can't take it anymore.
I wanted to hold out just a little longer for a 5G phone, but I am so close to pulling the trigger on a Pixel 4a 5g because I'm just done with third party manufacturer's crappy software.
My issues:
1. Wifi goes to crap after a few months after a factory reset - not sure what's causing this, but factory resetting usually cleans it up for a time. Half the time in my house I cannot connect to wifi. Reset network settings doesn't fix it.
2. SD-card no longer readable (this might be physical because doesn't come back after a factory reset).
3. Camera is SLOW 50% of the time.
I hacked the hell out of my HTC M7, but I haven't done a custom rom on my u11. I just want something as stable as possible where everything works. There are only 4 threads on the sprint HTC-U11 forums (my variant) and Lineage looks like it never officially supported the U11.
I read that Stock Pie is garbage and that's what I have, so maybe I should go with a non-aosp custom rom based on Oreo 8.1?
I don't need android 10, I'm sure that will bring more issues than it will solve, I used to love my U11, now I want to throw it against a wall.
I'm going to spend the next 2 days getting up to speed on the roms for this device, I used to use Viper on my HTC-M7 but IIRC viper rom has a million tweaks which I do not need. Just want my camera and wifi to work and not have a ton of things that are listed in the "wont work" section of the rom.
why you don't need android 10? I have the pixel 10 from here and it's perfect.
your other choices are Lee's rom which is also on oreo or viper.

I guess since android 10 was never supported I was worried about compatibility. Lineage looks like it has tons of issues but I hadn't looked at the pixel rom.
This the one you are using?
[ROM][10.0]&[11.0] Pixel Experience PLUS (ocn) [Unofficial][AOSP] (11.0 - upd 2021-12-26; 10.0 - upd 2020-12-18)

Looks promising!
I downloaded Leedroid overnight but I will take a good look at this one as well, would be cool to be on Android 10 if its stable.
Thanks!
Oh spoke to soon:
"
Known Issues:
the same as for LOS 17.1 thread
"
LOS thread:
Known Issues:
On dual SIM devices, a SIM cannot be re-enabled once it has been disabled
VOIP calling (problem with the microphone when making VOIP phone calls using Viber, Skype, Telegram, Facebook)
Wi-Fi calling (checked it for mcc="310" mnc="260" only, but I cant check it for me. My carrier supports Volte only for our device and VOLTE works fine for me)
SeLinux permissive (will be fixed when the bugs are fixed)
You tell me
That's why I was going to stay away from LOS, I use VOIP calling as well as WIFI calling. Are you not having those issues?
To be honest I dont use these features so I don't know. you can send a message to the developer and ask him. if these are solved then just put the rom. if not choose another.
So leedroid started out great, after a week I'm having issues again, things are sluggish, a few times apps force close.
I was going to try viperU but downloads no longer available.
Not sure if I should try another kernel or what.
I'm starting to think my phone is just dying. Been three years now, the SD card reader is broken so maybe other things inside are busted as well. The first few days of leedroid was wonderful. Same things happen after a factory reset to stock, works great for a time, then slowly starts to degrade.
Maybe its time to move on ='( I'm eying the pixel 4a 5g because I'm sick of manufacturers abandoning older devices, my Dad has a nexus 6 that still works to this day, I replaced the battery for him 2 years ago since it wasnt lasting long and it gave it new life.
Should I keep trying new roms or give up hope?
Lineage seems to have a host of issues, and I need wifi calling and video calling in mesenger which it lists as issues.
I was on custom ROM since day one. It was working great all the time. Since Jan I'm back on stock ROM. I'm excited about how well the phone is doing since. The biggest benefit is battery life. It is almost like a new phone. Of course, some root settings is missing but it fades out. My Favs after HTC is the Sony Xperia 5ii, it still has sd card or Nubia Red Magic 6 maybe, it is more powerfull but I can wait till the end of the year. It is because the SD 888 has the wifi module included which make it more efficient compared to the SD 865 if I understand it right.
When I was back on Stock tried to lock the bootloader I had to go back to a custom ROM to do so. The only one which works with the new firmware was "ROM 9 unofficial pixel experience" at this time, it seems it is a clean ROM in my short view. It is an option maybe. Good luck.

poco x3 NFC MIUI V12.0.8.0.RJGEUXM Stable 2.3G vs custom ROM - which is best for a child

Hello
My DS has come to an age where he needs a smartphone. I have bought X3 NFC for him. However, I have no experience of MIUI ROMs as I have been on Pixel or Samsung phones for a number of years.
My requirement is for my son to have a consistent user experience with simplicity, no bloatware, system ads etc. Also from my perspective I need to put parental control softwares on it to have the ability to control all aspects of the phone. Keeping in mind that this is the first phone for my DS and I want to shield him as much possible from unwanted exposure via apps and internet so that he can operate the device safely.
I am looking to put parental control softwares like family link and Qustodio but not sure if a custom rom with pure android experience or an MIUI ROM is more suitable for a child to operate and use.
Looking for suggestions here..
Thanks

If you can wait a little, the phone will soon get "official" Lineage status which usually means updates for a long time.
Currently I'm using ArrowOS which works really well. It's pretty much like a Pixel phone and has weekly updates (OTA) and SafetyNet passes (NFC, Netflix)
Thanks, 'soon' means few weeks or few months? I can wait for few weeks if needed. so if I undestand it correctly then it means this phone model will be officially supported by lineage OS and that means long term updates and support?
I can checkout arrowOS as well in the mean time.Thx.

Judging by what the dev wrote, I think it's more like days till it's official and from there on, we'll receive updates for about 12 months till Lineage 19 comes out.
ArrowOS is also quite popular and well supported. My only complaint would be that SOT is only 7-8 hours but it's enough to get me through the day.
ArrowOS also comes with some cool additions like unlimited storage in Google Photos which will never be built-in in Lineage. Also it's available with GApps included which makes flashing easier

OOS 11 Stability

Hey all ,
I have OnePlus 6 for some time now. After upgrade on OOS 11 I encounter plenty of issues, lags, freezes etc. I'm little bit surprised regarding this because phone was really good before. I know the aging part, but this is consequence of something else in my opinion.
My questions are:
How stable is OOS 11 for you?
Did you discover anything that helps? (factory reset etc.)
Is there someone who downgraded back to OOS 10 and how is that going?
I think this phone shouldn't go to rubbish just because of software. It is still good device, that we hopefully can use for few more years.
Feel free to share your opinions, suggestions and experiences.
Thank you

Advantages of OOS 11 over OOS 10 on the OP 7Pro?

I have been using OOS 10.3.8 on my OP 7Pro (GM1917) ever since that OS version came out.
I'm reluctant to upgrade to any OOS 11 versions due to the complexities and headaches with Magisk and TWRP which exist with A11+ OS's. However, I'm starting to think that I might be willing to upgrade to OOS 11 and bite the bullet with Magisk and TWRP, **if** there are any clear advantages in using OOS 11 over OOS 10.
Could anyone who has upgraded from OOS 10 to OOS 11 on this same device share their thoughts about what might be better in OOS 11 than what is available in OOS 10?
Although I'm generally happy with OOS 10, one complaint that I do have is that its battery-saving procedures are very good at preventing me from receiving timely push-notifications from certain apps (for example, Gmail and LINE Messenger, and I think a number of others). Is this the same in OOS 11, or has this gotten better in OOS 11? ... or could it be that they even "improved" (ha-ha) their battery-saving procedures in OOS 11 to the point where these push-notifications now arrive in an even **less** timely manner?
For me, battery-saving is not very important, while functionality is indeed the most important thing. So am I likely to be better off in this regard with OOS 11?
Thank you very much in advance for any thoughts that any of you are willing to share.
From what I've read by experts on the telegram channel, the only difference is that the quick view buttons are different on a11, and that's it. That there isn't much difference on the gui. Underneath? I don't know.
Scoped storage and forced encryption are fully active in 11.
Not sure how well OP's UI runs on 10, but with 11 it will be harder for them not to make significant changes that don't impact functionality.
Rule#1 if your OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be. If this is the case you have very little to gain and worlds to lose.

Thank you. I wholeheartedly agree with your Rule #1, which I've been living by.
I'm just wondering if OOS 11 might do a better job of delivering timely push-notifications than OOS 10, which does it annoyingly badly. That would be the *only* factor which might motivate me to go to OOS 11.

The notification issue may just be on OP's flavor of 10 rather than the 10 base code it's self being buggy. Or purely a settings issue, power management is a prime suspect. Or something in the notifications settings.
I can run my old copy of WPS office on 10, but 11 would puke on it. I have no issues with accessing files on the SD card on 10 either or with constant annoying permission pop ups. Samsung however heavily modified 10 to make it as functional as 9. Both my Notes, one on 9, the other on 10 operate almost identically. However the 10 variant has dozens of new small Samsung system apps to achieve this. They seem to consume very little resources though.
I was amazed when I first saw how many there were... too many to easily count.
The Samsung 11 variant though I doubt would be as happy a story.
At least research it heavily on forums and feedback from users rather than mainstream "yes man" reviews. Fake news is very much alive in tech news/reviews... for a few dollars more.
Ever notice how all new Fold models have glowing reviews when first released then a half year or so later the truth comes out

I've done lots of work investigating the push-notification issue that I have described, and it's not related to settings nor power-management configuration. It's definitely a known problem with OOS, including OOS 10.
OnePlus hypes their low battery usage, and this push-notification problem is one of the side-effects ... which they do not hype, of course. I don't trust OnePlus to have improved this with OOS 11, and if anything, they could even have made it worse in OOS 11. This is why I am researching here in this forum as to whether anyone has experienced any issues with notifications in Gmail, LINE Messenger, or any other apps under OOS 11 on the OP 7Pro.
PS: LINE Messenger and Gmail do *not* have this push-notification problem under A10 and A11 crDroid ROMs on the OP 7Pro. So, this is definitely a OnePlus OOS issue, and it can't be blamed on those apps.

Question Is it worthy to stay on RMX3370_11_A.03 ??

I'm curious if it's worthy to upgrade one version up or to let it stock and what is your impressions about the update RMX3370_11_A.09 is it better one?
A.03 is the stable version for rui 11. Only update if you want to use rui 12, if not just stay on stock.
Normally the OS you get after you buy your phone at first is considered to be the most stable one for your device. The OTA updates you get afterwards are not extensively tested like the one you received at first. I downgraded to Android 11 after I used Android 12 for a week and experienced less screen on time and low-quality sound from speaker. Still using it as it is.
My suggestion, if you're happy with your current state, don't bother upgrading.
