So what's your experience with this update to android 12? - OnePlus 7 Questions & Answers

Android 12 Is out now. I got an update notification from the oxygen updater app.
How is updating from a rooted device? Is it the usual?
download, disable magiskmodules, install, magisk->flash to other partion, reboot?
regards

so xda is dead?

Haven't tried Android 12 yet, but was wondering if I should!

İ personally wouldn't recommend the update (android 12). The update isn't stable.

LineageOS 19.1 works fine. Used ADB and fastboot as recommended. Updates without hussle. Did try the Evolution X too, but couldn't handle the evolution menu well.

were you rooted?

Can anyone bring me up to date please?

I'm quite out of touch. My OG Pixel was on Android 9, rooted with working Android Pay but yesterday it rebooted and now is unrooted on Android 10. TWRP sems to be gone too. Magisk manager says Magisk is not installed. My phone can't make contactless payments either.
I want a rooted phone
I want Google Pay
I don't care about being on the latest version
What are my best options?
Thanks

Did Android 10 get beamed into your phone from an invading alien force?:silly:
You can use the last factory from 12/5/19. You can use the latest Pixel Dust which is staying up-to-date with latest kernels and security patches and works great! Also Evolution X, though the latest version may have serious bugs - still trying to figure it out.
fastboot boot .\twrp-3.3.0-0-sailfish.img for TWRP, then install zip.
Install latest Magisk, then for Google Pay to work, see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=81356303&postcount=61
There is an install guide on the Marlin/XL forum that I've always followed, though using Sailfish files rather than Marlin.

Installing TWRP while on Android 9

I currently own a Pixel 3a and it's on the latest Android 10 security update, I would like to install a custom rom onto it but since TWRP doesn't support Q I'm wondering if I flashed the 3a with a Pie image and then installed TWRP, would I then be able to use Android 10 custom roms.
Also if anyone could recommend any roms that offer similar features without the massive System size (live captioning, google camera, hold power for gpay) that would be great!

Nope you'll be stuck using Android 9 Roms. Total waste of time is what it is

Worth it to upgrade from Android 10 Sept 2020 to Android 11 right now or wait?

Or wait a couple of months for them to tweak it a bit?
I only run Magik and not Xposed, not that it matters!
I'm not rooted, but I've been running R since the first public ßeta.
It's been the smallest update so far in a long time for Android. Very little has changed, compared to previous major version upgrades.
If you can root (and from what I read i think you can with Magisk), make a full backup and try it.

I don't really know what you'd be waiting for. I don't think a non-rooted person would notice much in terms of drawbacks. Magisk modules level, there were some issues... but I think most things are getting worked out. Xposed technically works, but more than half of my modules broke in a way that probably won't be fixed for a while. I still feel like I'm at a net-negative in terms of phone features. A11 brought little and broke a lot of my QoL tweaks that used Xposed.
I make no claims about SafetyNet as I use no apps that even check it.
I think A11 has been released formally by google and most of issues have been fixed or addressed.
I used magisk and edxposed. That's not a problem for me(I used Edxposed for fingerface only). Regarding of safetynet issue, it also has solution to make it pass by magisk modules and kernel side.
Until now, I'm happy with A11.
I ended up doing a full wipe and upgrade to Android 11 Oct 2020.
I have Magisk running with the SQL Lite mods for Google Pay and obviously I have root so I'm basically back where I was on Android 10.
I hadn't use Xposed yet and I don't know if I will yet. I was using Viper Audio mod but I don't know if I noticed a major difference, mostly I just stream bluetooth in my SUV.
So far, so good.
I tried it and reverted back to 10 - as mentioned didn't gain much but broke a lot. Even in stock form I can't get videos to load a subtitle file because of storage permissions and what not. A tweaked out install of 10 is faaaar nicer imo so that's what I'm running, probably until a new phone comes out sadly.

can i ask how you upgraded to A11? Im on 10 rooted with magisk and keep hearing mixed messages on upgrading. And is it necessary to wipe? I really don't want to.
A11 is not too bad, but as others have said little things here and there that break. Like for me I listen to SiriusXM app on mobile and for some odd reason it will stop playing all of a sudden and close. It's like the aggressive memory management kills the app for no reason. I even have battery optimization turned off and still does it.
Thinking about moving back to A10 from August, not really much I have to have to stick with latest A11 updates.

Flash the factory image, but remove the -w in the flash-all file. Then in Magisk Manager switch tot he beta channel and patch the boot image with that. Flash it and you're done.

Ok so I shouldn't install it via the ota? I keep getting the pop up to update every day.
Does using Magisk to dl / install the OTA, then patch the non-live and newly flashed partition, then finally rebooting not work?
When I was rooted that was always the easiest way.
And based upon the post 2 above this one, Magisk now supports A11 without ẞeta, right?

Got a bootloop to TWRP after downloading latest update from Arrow OS and installing it

Dear all,
Hope you are doing great, I was downloading and installing automatic updates just fine and the other week got a notification about a new update of over 1.4 gbs and the automatic installer was not possible to do and requested me to download it and installing it manually. I downloaded the Rar and everything was going smooth and when I enter TWRP I installed at first shoot without doing any wipe or clear cache or data.
All was installed and it told me to restart the phone, I did that and vroom a vibrating sound happen and got me back to the main screen of Poco and then to TWRP and show me 3 workarounds to clear data and cache and the last resort do a clean flash rom.
I had to end with the last option since I was unable to install the update. What could be gone wrong here? I am back at stock now and I am very sad that this fricking update break all the custom firmware and got me bootlooped
I look for your inputs and maybe I can try again.
Thank you!
You must install Android 11 firmware for newer versions of Arrow as it has switched to OSS vendor.
I was on arrow os 11 so Android 11 was on there, the issue was when I was installing the new update from surija I believe si called the developer.
Do you guys have an idea what did I did wrong? Should You recommend staying vainilla stock miui 12 with root privileges or arrow 11?
Thank you!
I was able to flash the latest version update but I am having a System UI is not responding and got WIFI broken so if anyone is installing this update be careful, does anyone installed the last arrow OS update?
I am currently having issues with the last update, I think I will stick with no updates on the firmware
Sorry I am posting multiple updates on my thread, but I tested it and definetly the last update from Surya break the OS when you login you do not have WIFI and is showing the error I mentioned UI system unresponsive. I installed the version from April from Arrow OS and all works like a charm.
So if anyone reads this be careful with latest release from Surya 5/14 version
Yes, i can confirm. The version I used initially was from april 30. The update from may caused bootloop. I'll be turning off updates when I restore it with miflash.
The main reason I went with arrow is that it is selinux enforcing and supports safety net. But this really makes me think..
@SebixWolf The problem may have been that you flashed arrowos from the wrong miui version. I just miflashed back to the original regional version, flashed twrp again and flashed the R firmware. See https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ng-flashing-custom-rom.4274891/#post-85002889

Question Quick overview questions consideration Upgrading to Android 12 (Miui 13)

Hi everyone,
just now the Global Version of MIUI 13 with Android 12 have been released, there's also the version from Xiaomi.eu available.
I have been following the development a bit and i have a few questions being a rooted user.
- Obviously getting root again shouldn't be a problem with the latest releases of magisk which is flashed via fastboot (boot.img)
- TWRP is not yet able to access encrypted partition on android 12, thus the rom has to be installed via fastboot. Where else could this lead be a shortcoming? Are there alternatives?
I just don't want it to feel like a mistake to upgrade early. So i am looking for some experiences from other users.
Root will be no problem.
About encryption use adb sideload, fastboot, sd card, usb otg. Whatever you like.
Or wipe data and foash dfe zip. Restart to rom, restart recovery and data will be decrypted. Then flash rom you like from internal. But there is again problem where to put dfe.
just buy some chippest sd card for this just for flashing roms and your problem will be solved forever
do you have link?
Don't even bother flashing it or updating to it, it's infested with bugs and there are no performance or battery life improvements since it's just the initial release.
It is basically same with 12.5. It does not even have android 12 features that come stock with it. I tried it, only noteworthy change was the font change MiSans, other than that there was nothing lol.
