Hello everyone!
Going back here .
In my past I have bought a Google Pixel 6 and I have tried to install AOSP with the HAL modified by me, but without success. How did the story continue? I had to replace it with a new one. Apparently these devices have a physical protection, according to what I have investigated they speak of blown fuses when the image does not fit. Anyway, it was a beatiful learned lesson.
Somebody have recommended me Samsung devices to getting start. My objective is that the image I have in my Android 12 AOSP environment can be ported to a real device.
Has anyone had experience with this task?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated...
Thank you very much!

Hi guys
I friend of mine has kindly brought my son an early Christmas present back from Dubai and its a fake iPhone4. At first glance I thought it was running Apple IOS but on a closer look, its running Android with an iPhone theme! I don't have any issue with the ROM that's currently installed on there but some of the apps are not suitable for children and I've tried removing them without any joy. My son will only be using the phone to browse the web and play the odd occasional game.
What are my chances of changing this ROM? what would I need to do to identify what hardware is inside and what ROM's I could potentially install?
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi all
Thanks firstly I've found this site excellent for rooting and flashing my samsung tab2/nexus7 etc 5*
But now I'm stuck and I have a challenge
I have a 10 inch nurvo tablet that is rooted (SuperSU etc)
But I cannot find a custom ROM that will make this thing any good!
Specs::
Model number:nurvo10dcb
Android version:4.2.2
Firmware:2.1_20140213
Kernal:3.4.39+
Build:a20_k1001_k1001L1c_1402051.20140305
I'm trying to get some use from this tab other than a slow inaccurate TV remote(YouTube via Chromecast etc)
Its so bad!(touch drivers are very slow
I really want something more refined like slimkat or just something that works rather than whatever this was designed for (picture frame maybe
Huge thanks and sorry if I've put this in the wrong place.
It would be nice to have the same flexibility my Samsung tab2 with 6.1 and nexus with slimkat

Hello and welcome to xda-assist,
as this is an unpopular device, especially compared with the Samsung tab2, you won't nowhere get equal or only nearly the support of a popular device, that's the hard truth..
If you can't find anything on simple Google search or on the forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
there's non and you're bound to xposed & root, just like many other people, long not all devices are supported by development, only a few selected and that's why it is so important to research the device before you buy when you're in to flash & stuff..
Good luck
Hi
I thought it was pushing it with this nurvo and if I had the time to check it out before I bought it I'd have avoided it
I did see some info about someone and custom ROMs but cannot find it.
Its rooted fine (kingo)but without a decent ROM its just junk as its just too slow
Its fine for kids to play with and slowly using as a remote but that's it
Thanks mate
I will keep my ears open just in case but I won't hold my breath: (
Hello,
I bought several smartphone in the past until now and I always want to use them as long I can.
So Android obsolescence comes quite quickly once a smartphone arrives on the market (around 2 or 3 years after). We lose security patches, capability to use upper android version.... So each time I try to use custom ROM based on AOSP or Lineage / CM BUT I lose the capability to make decent photo with the Camera.
Currently it is unacceptable because I have to immortalize best moments of my life (childs, family ...).
The questions are simple : Do you know Android smartphone manufacturer or specific models with open / published camera drivers / framework that can be used on AOSP / Lineage OS?
I have the same question, if a manufacturer publish camera drivers that be used on upper Android version (EX: published for Marshmallow but useable on Oreo).
Thanks
There isn't one. This is the difference between open source and closed sourced drivers. The cameras and drivers are not even made by the device oem.
Updates these days are not that bad. You get a flagship and it will easily last 5 years. Even if 2 of them are only with security updates.
Hello zelendel,
Thank you for this reply.
In consequence all smarphone suffer of the same miseries. There is no way to get a Lineage with the same camera quality than stock experience due to closed source?! :crying:
Pretty much yes. I have not found a single device that doesn't suffer. It's one of the things you give up when you swap over to aosp base. Just like when using Linux. You lose anything special the oem did.
Hi !
I'm considering buying an Amazon Kindle E-reader because reading on my phone really hurt my eyes on the long run but I'm worried about being jailed in the Amazon environment. I'm aiming for the cheapest recent model, the Kindle 10.
I was wondering if it's possible to replace the proprietary firmware with Android or a lightweight derivative.
I did some googling but the only result I got was this thread with removed responses : https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/closed-guide-install-android-os-on-kindle-8-gen.4449977/
I'm kinda new so I don't really know what could make it possible or impossible to do it so here's my thoughts :
- Is the Amazon Firmware flashable like I would replace the OS on a computer ?
- Will the hardware be sufficient to run Android or lightweight ? (512MB of RAM, a 1Ghz ARM CPU, 8Gigs of storage, from Wikipedia)
- I know e-inks displays are really slow to refresh so I'll be disabling fancy android animations etc...
I'm not against doing it myself if no one already did, I think this could be a good experience, I just want to be sure I'm not doing something impossible from the start.
Thanks in advance for your help !

It might be feasible but pointless because android will be limited due to the fact that an E-reader doesn't have the hardware to take advantage of many features built into android.

Thanks for the feedback
Ultimately the goal isn't to get a full fledged working android, it obviously won't play videos or take pictures, I only want the ability to use whatever reader app I want and a lot of them are android apps...
Do you maybe have some advices on how to attack the problem ? I never did something similar so I'm actually learning how to replace android with lineage on a regular android phone to better understand how it works to begin with.

First, it requires an android ROM that has been specifically built for the device. It isn't like changing the OS on PC you can't just install any android software on it. Unless someone else has already built android for it, you would have to build/port it yourself, then you'd have to work how to get the device to allow installing it. You'd also have to build a custom recovery such as TWRP for the device in order to install the ROM and installing TWRP on the device requires an unlocked bootloader, which is another thing you'd have to figure out.
In my opinion, not worth it, better to buy a device that you can install your reader apps on.
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has heard of these devices Gen2i or Gen3 being rooted with a custom android room or linux distro. A lot of these things around not getting repurposed just garbaged, wondering if they are good for anything else.
Thanks!

sorry to bump an older thread, but I'm very interested in this as well. My employer has at least five or six of the older Gen2i pods that are just collecting dust. Mersive did not want them back when we upgraded to Gen3 pods, and I'd hate to throw them to ewaste. From what I understand they're just running a custom Android ROM. In theory we should be able to flash a stock Android ROM to it and potentially use it as an Android TV box, or something similar. I'd love to learn how to do this and avoid having these totally usable little devices end up in a landfill.
I took one of our Gen2i Pods apart and it appears to be SK hynix branded, but I couldn't find anything on this in a Google search. This is beyond my level of expertise so I'm very much out of my element here. I'd be interested and appreciative in any info anyone is able to provide.
From what I can make out, it states "sk hynix h9cknnndbtmt arnth 515a"
