So im to lazy to follow the init.img and stuff. Is it possible I can root the Pixel 7 Pro by just doing "adb sideload magisk.zip"?

Is impossible, you need to follow the guide
You can't be lazy when it comes to rooting modern smartphones. Gone are the days it could be done with a single command or button press.

Haha what an attitude! Go a head and try if you lazy shouldn't bother you too much, no stress haha.
On a serious note i would take care and pay attention to what your doing when modifying something like a smart phone, it could be a very expensive mistake just cos you are too lazy!

You will still have to do a bunch of steps after this roots the phone, but it's easy and doesn't require you to know adb. There's videos on YouTube of it being used too, which will walk u thru it.
lol for real though

Ya, I've unlocked bootloaders a bunch of time was just hoping there was an app that would do it all.
If you want to do something like remap physical buttons (which active edge counts as) you'll need to either give permissions to an app via adb or you'll need root. Either way you'll need a computer.
Followed the same instructions here: https://www.the***********.com/unlock-bootloader-google-pixel-3-xl-guide/
and it worked. I know this is probably obvious to everyone on this forum, but just in case anyone was wondering if the version from google was easily unlock able out of the box, it is. I was able to get the device early as a product advocate. Being that not a lot of people on XDA have the device yet, I may be the first person to unlock their Pixel 4 XL?

For those asking, no I haven't tried to root it yet. I just wanted to start playing with the device and signing in to all my stuff. No point in doing that first without unlocking the bootloader cause just like with any other phone that will factory reset everything. Better to unlock the device first before you start customizing it to you liking. Most likely root can be achieved without wiping again.
What command are you using? I tried fastboot flashing unlock and it just shows the help menu and fastboot oem unlock gives an error. On win 10 here. That link is incomplete?
ETA: I ended up using a tool and setting it to pixel/ pixel xl and it worked but its all for not, I think I'm returning the phone. I just am not happy with the way the face unlock works with ambient display, it ends up unlocking the phone when I just want to check my notifications lol. C'est la vie!

Agreed... I will not mess up with the device if it already rooted... Given that we do not have the unbrick tool.. I am wondering why we would need to go back to stock with locked bootloader? When returning the device to nubia for support? Ignore it as they will be able to identify if the device was unlocked or rooted... So waste of efforts..

I was wondering if anyone knew about the partition schemes and whether there is enough room on the boot image to install custom recovery on the P4a?
The Pixel 3A did not have enough room on the RAM disk on the boot image. So installing TWRP, even a stripped down version compressed, on the P3a was a no-go.
Custom recovery was not necessary on the P3a. Just having and unlocked bootloader and root via Magisk gives a lot of options including custom ROMs.
However, I'm still curious if custom recovery will ever come to the P4a?

I know, it looks like TWRP has been doing a long slow death spiral.
We have TWRP on Android 10 for the Pixel C tablet. But of course among other things, there's no A/B partitions and Google abandoned support for the device a while ago.
Might be a while, pixel 3+ devices haven't had a 100% working TWRP for a long time.
They can still sideload ROMs and patch boot images with adb/fastboot
I'll miss this moving on from my 2xl. Nice to flash and update things without needing a PC

I can't find them either.
Isn't Android 11 going to make it more difficult to hide root anymore? I am tempted to root, but heard (or read) somewhere that with android 11 that it may not be worth it as any app (or something like that) will be able to see and not work.
This is the first phone I've owned that I think I'll be satisfied with stock. Ad guard does everything I need as ad away did. And it doesn't need root. Everything is fast! Now I don't have to hack Google pay.
