Change Service provider software version - General Questions and Answers

Hello. XDA is my last resort. I bought a new phone from Amazon and setting it up I saw it was with Poland Service Provider but Samsung Pay isn't available there, I would like to change it to ITV (Italy), I've tried to flash the ITV files downloading the zip file from sammobile (Idk if is the right place though) and flashing the files but with no results. Could you please help me to solve this WITHOUT tripping knox, defeating the purpose of doing all this? Currently my Service provider software version is: SAOMC_SM-G781B_OXM_XEO_12_0008 XEO/XEO,XEO/EUX/XEO and XEO is Poland Thanks!

I would suggest to take it to official Samsung service. They have tools that can change that easily without tripping Knox.

There always is a way. But given that you don't want to risk triggering Knox, I suggest you just take it to service. the way Knox is build, once is triggered you can't fix it to the former state.

Could you please share the risky way? Isn't flashing the ITV firmware (5 files) enough?

So, you flashed those 5 files. What error did you get ?

Ops i didn't see this message, sorry.
I didn't get an error. From the instructions:
- Add the firmware files to their designated slots (AP in AP, BL in BL, CP in CP, HOME_CSC in CSC). Do not tick any extra boxes. The only options to be ticked are F. Reset Time and Auto-Reboot.
I did that and the phone did reboot normally but didn't change anything, i still have XEO/XEO/XEO instead of ITV so looks like it didn't fail but failed? I don't know

I'm in a similar situation in the US. I had converted to TMobile variant from Samsung Unlocked U1 --> U about a year ago when TMobile was the only. I went through a lot of trouble getting the TMB to stick, now I tried go back to U1 version because I am trading in to Samsung, but I still have TMobile as the software provider version - not sure if this is something Samsung would reject tradein for

[Q] Firmware change unsuccessful

I bought my S6 in Colombia although I live in Panama. It is the SM-G920I.
I found that a Panama app I wanted to install would not install because it said the country was wrong. I guess that may be something to do with the CSC. I had naively assumed the phones in Colombia would be the same as the phones available in Panama. I now see from Sammobile that there are different firmwares for Colombia and Panama. So I downloaded the Panama firmware and installed it with Odin. Odin did its stuff and said that the installation was successful. Both firmwares are 5.0.2.
However, when the phone rebooted it was exactly the same as before and PhoneInfo still shows it as having the Colombian firmware. The only change was that I lost my Pingpong root.
Sorry for the long explanation but what have I done wrong? How can I get the Panama firmware on the phone?
TIA

You Need to download another firmware, i recommend to you to download the Trinidad And Tobago firmware, i tell you because latin america has csc codes for many countries but if your country does not have csc code it sets to latin american firmware because of your EFS Folder, if it doesnt work to you please download a firmware from France or Spain. if you doesnt want to lose pingpong root do not upgrade to a kernel made after 15 May 2015
Please do not upgrate to 5.1.1 Firmware it Sucks

Thanks. I will give that a try. Would it be the CSC that is stopping the app I want from installing, saying it is the wrong country?
If so, is there an easier why just to change the CSC? I have done some searching but everything I've found seems to be quite old and probably not working for Lollipop.

Try this to change your csc code:
1. type in the dialer *#06#, copy ur IMEI
2. type in the dialer *#272*IMEI HERE and add a #
IT WILL WIPE YOUR DATA

Thanks but that doesn't work. I get Unknown Application. I think that doesn't work on the S6. I also tried using Phone Info to change the CSC but that also doesn't seem to be compatible with the S6 even though it shows my firmware is multi-CSC.

Sorry but what do you mean do not let to install csc files? I did stop Odin auto-rebooting and went to recovery but that didn't seem to help. How do I stop it installing the wrong CSC files?
If I was willing to lose warranty now, would installing TWRP and maybe a custom ROM make it easier to change the CSC?
Thanks.

I am stuck in BNG csc code and i cant change it because i need to Trip KNOX, but i changed my csc code From ING to BNG.
- When odin finish flashing if Auto-Reboot option is ticked, your samsung will reboot and it shows a Android robot instaling something and later says Erasing... you cant let this happen, untick auto reboot and you need to reboot your galaxy in recovery mode and it will show CSC Check Failed and you have to wipe data and shutdown your device and enter in download mode and reflash the firmware. It worked for me.
if you trip knox and you install twrp it will be easier because you can install a custom rom and change your csc code rooted.

Galaxy S6 root > change csc > unroot possible?

Hi everyone
What's the best way to change my CSC to BTU (from EVR)?
I've done a little research and found the following:
1. Root using PingPong to prevent KNOX trip
2. change CSC using an app (is this available for S6 in the app store?)
3. flash with BTU firmware and unroot
Is any of this possible, is there a better way?
thank you.
Yes, its possible while your still on 5.0.2.

Thanks roydok, whats the best app in the store to make the change as there are so many to choose from?
Also is there a simpler way, or is the way i described it the only option, esp for KNOX trip?
I've seen some other tutorials use the auto cf root way, is that ok to use or does that trip KNOX?
Lastly, if i move to BTU and update to 5.1.1 will i continue to get OTA updates direct from Samsung rather than my carrier?
thank you.

As far as I am aware.. your csc will change by flashing btu... your root obviously be gone too. If you flash 5
1.1 you loose root but you'll gain ota from samsung rather than your carrier. Hope that helps
Skip the rooting and just flash the btu firmware from Odin. That will change your CSC anyway.
I was on vau firmware but changed to xsa using this method.
Just be sure the btu firmware us for the same variant of fallacy s6 as your device (I.e both 920F or whatever you're rocking)
EDIT
To get btu system updates going forward you WILL need to factory reset after flashing the btu firmware as your device needs to re-register with that CSC. There might be a way to force it to do that without a factory reset but I dunno how. So perhaps use smart switch or Helium (from app store) to backup whatever is important to you first

Thanks dlotters, is this safe and won't trip KNOX? and no way of doing it without reset? I'll have to do a Kies and Helium backup before i start.
Which version of Odin should i use?

SSTIWARI's reply in the following post scared me http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ock-rom-via-odin-affect-t3138019#post61992036
His Knox tripped when using a standard BTU ROM from sammobile and flashing via Odin 3.10.6, it sounds risky.
So going back to my original post, would that order of doing seem the safest? Would it even work? Still not sure which app to use to change the CSC.
thanks.

Strange. Everything else I've seen on here and other for UK mobile s suggest that flashing stock roms with Odin is safe and doesn't trip Knox. My own experience confirms that also. But I used the xsa firmware as I've the 925I variant so maybe it's different. Seems odd though. What about other people who have flashed btu firmware? Is his an isolated incident?

After adding my post, i did a little more research, even watched a few videos of the process from beginning to end and i'm a little more confident. Maybe it was an isolated incident, well hoping so.
Going to run more backups and try it tonight.
Did you still have to use the wipe option? if so what was your method or restore?
I've created another post but haven't had any answers yet.

The reason you have to wipe/factory reset is so that your device registers with Samsung for updates against the new CSC. It was previously registered against the old CSC so won't get update notifications for the new one unless you do. At least, that's what I had to do to get XSA updates pushed to my (previously VAU CSC) phone. It's been confirmed by a number of other users over on whirlpool forums (Australian tech forum).
If there's another way to register the device then I don't know what it is
How did I restore? Well, I used Helium to do the back up of app data and sms's etc, so just restored via helium. Discovered Smart Switch backups afterwards but I've never used it myself so can't comment.

but maybe the region that has most user!

Over at SamMobile Greenman once said that Trinidad and Tobago always is among the first, if not the first. Can't be the region with the most users if my demographic instinct isn't totally off track!

No that is not a problem , the only issue you may be concern is your phone CSC ( country code) is not a big deal but some carrier specific options may be not available if you have a different CSC than you carrier

Just see to it that you use the CSC file and NOT the Home_CSC when you are switching CSC. Fill in the BL, AP, CP and the CSC files in the right fields and have the following boxes ticked: Auto-Reboot, Re-Partition, F. Reset Time.
After the flash, power off, reboot and enter Recovery. Select and execute Wipe cache partition and then Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Reboot and then you will receive OTA updates from the new region you flashed when they are released. You should be aware of the fact that your Samsung warranty is void after switching CSC should they notice it. This probably is not likely, but still, be aware of it. Flashing original Samsung firmware do not trigger Knox.
All your data will be lost so back up important stuff.

Thanks for the replies, by CSC do you mean Israel's CSC or the other country's CSC? I'm flashing the newest build from the UK with the November 1 security patch which was build in November, but the Israeli build was built in August and has the August security patch. Could that cause a problem?
Say I filled the UK BL, AP and CP with ISRAEL's CSC (not HOME_CSC), what are the chances for a HARD brick?
Thanks again

You MUST use the csc that comes with the firmware package. The csc file contains info on the layout for how the firmware files are going to be organized. You should not mix files from different packages. It is only when you are flashing a newer version of the same region firmware that you can use the Home_CSC file. The Home_CSC file do not contain the instructions for how Odin shall re-partition the system as this is not needed in that case. This is why config and data is not wiped and the phone is not factory reset when using the Home_CSC.
The CSC file must be used when you switch region since the layout in memory is different for different regions.
So you see you will always lose configuration and data and have to do a factory reset upon CSC switching. No way around this I'm afraid!
On the risks of hard brick when mixing files I have no clue. If you are adventurous you could try, otherwise do not try!

The UK firmware you link here is a carrier specific Hutchison 3G firmware and should not be used unless this is your operator. I would suspect that mixing the files is risky.
It seems that there are two versions of Trinidad and Tobago's firmware that you've mentioned in your earlier post, specifically TTT and EON
Are both compatible? Is there another, unbranded firmware that I can get with the November 1 security patch? I'm gonna be using the phone in Israel and my current baseband ends with BPH1

I didn't mean that you should flash the Trinidad and Tobago firmware, I just commented on the post saying that the firmware that has the most users was updated first. I think that you should use the firmware that best suits your operator. And if you decide to switch, do not mix files, use all files in the package you flash, and do not use Home_CSC.

It worked, but the H3G ROM is heavily bloated
Is there a way to restore the original Samsung boot animation? Also, how do I make it mount the system read/write?

What you want is not possible without root access. You need to go to other parts of this forum to do research on how to root your phone and install custom roms.

Already rooted of course, however even with su enabled I can't write to /system
I also tried to switch the boot animation with substratom and it didn't work, are there other apps/ways that are known to work? I just want the stock Samsung logo back (or anything that doesn't have a site address on it lol). I'm not eager to give root access to everything that claims to be able to change your boot anim, and Google brought up nothing
EDIT:
I've managed to get rid of the H3G boot and shutdown animations by going to /system/media/ and removing *.qmg, then going to /system/media/video/shutdown/ and removing shutdown.qmg
Do this at your own risk, it won't restore the original Marshmallow animation but it will PROBABLY make your device stay on the "powered by Android" logo instead of going to the carrier boot animation

E.g. would my phone refuse to boot, would my phone be carrier branded if it succesfully boots, trip Knox, etc...
Any info welcome - tired of googling the answers or searching XDA forum for answers.

Might have some carrier preinstalled crap but it won't trip KNOX nor prevent the phone from booting

That answered some of my questions, thanks.
Please see screenshot for my mutiCSC firmware. I am running Android 7 but haven't changed CSC since I got the phone in December 2016. I got it with Marshmallow on it. Everytime I upgrade firmware with Odin I select Home CSC so my CSC never changes.
Since the solution is in the CSC (afaik), which CSC do you recommend I flash with Odin? I understand how to flash with Odin if CSC not in my multiCSC firmware (tick re-partition, etc...)
My home network is Vodafone (CSC is XVF which is not part of my CSC).

If i got it right you are not root, right? if you are root there are other ways....
Yes you need the right CSC to make it work , in this case Vodafone XFV.
When you change to a different CSC is recommended to check re partition to adjust to the possible change in partitions
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930F/XFV/download/G930FXXU1DQD2/131635/
Download the firmware and extract the correct CSC from it , if you do not want all the vodafone stuff you could download and unbranded firmware and use the BL ,CP , AP from it and the CSC (XFV) from Vodafone and flash it all together
BACK UP FIRST .......

Yes, no root (for now). Will only root in a year when I get my upgrade on my contract.
Thanks, you basically confirmed what I suspected. Just needed a Jedi to point that out so I have peace of mind. I shall report back... :highfive: :good:

No problem mate.
Let us know how it goes

Absolute noob at phones

Hi all,
I bought a samsung S7 G930F (Checked with Phone INFO app) recently online which I regret.
My firmware's CSC Code is XFV (South Africa) and I have bloatware / bootscreen for Vodacom South Africa.
I live in New Zealand and was wondering if I could change the firmware to my country's firmware i.e. NZC or TNZ without rooting the phone and keeping original.
I have done some research and have read that I can use Odin software to change the firmware, but want to verify this with someone who knows what they are doing.
Thank you ,
Doi
yes you should be able to to it with odin.
and if you want to download the firmware without speed limit use program called samfirm https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647

You are installing it officially, so no warranty void, Knox 0x1 etc...
