Good smartphone with 6.7 or 6.8 screen under $350? - General Questions and Answers

Hi there,
I've been using my Note 8 for a few years now, but I feel I need a bigger screen.
I don't want to spend too much money, I don't use the phone to take pictures, I have my professional camera for that, nor for gaming as I use my Switch.
So, I'm looking for a good phone, with bigger screen.
I'm considering the Moto G for $299 or the Galaxy A71 for $149, though I'm confused because there's also this Galaxy A71 for $469. If the difference between the two Galaxy is only the unlocked feature, than I should be ok with the $149 as I'm on T-Mobile.
Anyway, are those two phones good? Is there a clear winner between the two? Is there a better option?
Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately no, can't buy Xiaomi in the U.S.
So Moto G! I thought it was a good phone, what was holding me back is that on a few YT reviews it seemed that Samsung is a little better in terms of speed, and screen quality.
Thanks for chiming in!
Edit: I could stretch the budget to $400, maybe Moto 5G could be a better option?

Could you tag the phones again with gsmarena? Either the links don't work as intended for me or I am getting redirected from the US website.

AFAIK you can buy XIAOMI phones in the US from here:

[Q] Planning to buy GTab 7 Plus - Need Advice

Hi everyone. As the heading states, I am planning to buy the GTab 7 Plus in India for my dad. Now, here is my concern:
In India, the same tab is marketed as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 620. It still has the 1.2 GHz Exynos Processor, 1024X600 resolution screen & includes Voice calling features. I have searched all over the net & couldn't find if there are any differences compared to the GTab 7 Plus which is available internationally. So, in this case, is it only the change in name for marketing purposes or is there some other variation also? Basically, I want to understand if I can use all the ROMs available here on XDA with the tab available in India?
If anyone has any info on this I would really appreciate it. Thanks in Advance!

But I thought the tab was for your dad? Kidding...
Take a look in the development subforum just to be sure but as far as I know there are no custom ROMs for the Plus yet.
Hi im from Philippines. My advice is do not buy Galaxy Tab 7 plus... why? Because Gtab 7 plus is not super amoled. You just wait for Gtab 7.7 that is a amoled LCD...
Sent from TAPAKING using Tapatalk
I already bought GTab 7 plus for my mom. I pissed off when i read about the specs and it is not amoled LCD.
Sent from TAPAKING using Tapatalk
Yes, I am fully aware that it is not super amoled. The point is that my dad is getting a limited time offer from his workplace for a 60% discount on any phone purchase. But since he already has a phone which he is content with, he wanted a tablet to use as an ereader. This is the only well speced tab which has phone calling capabilites & is available for purchase here at the moment.
Anyways, I have gone ahead with the purchase & dad is happy with the device. Thanks for all your inputs.
Guys, I don't know about price for Tab 7.7 in your country, but in Russia I got my Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus for $468 and price for 7.7 starting at $780. So I don't want pay twice more for super amoled screen and 0.2ghz difference
I am also looking to buy a galaxy tab 7 plus and am undecided which version to buy. I live in the united states and I could just get the p6210 wifi only version, but I am not sure if I will need 3g. I don't want to buy the wifi only then find myself often wanting to use the wireless features when I have no wifi. From my understanding i can use the GPS no matter which version I have so that's at least a plus no matter which way I go.
If I end up buying a 3g version which would people recommend the international unlocked one, the t-mobile un-subsidised, or the t-mobile contracted one.
For people who live in the US and actually got the international one, which cell phone company are you using with it and are you able to get a cellphone plan and use it as a huge cellphone.
People with the t-mobile version have you been able to unlock the subsidised version and/or use the unlocked version as a cellphone? Either with a t-mobile prepaid plan or another company that uses the same frequency.
From what I have read it seems like the international one would have to be used with at&t and t-mobile version is only usable with t-mobile in the US atleast.
In Thailand has 2 version
P6200 (for 3G 900MHz)
P6200L (for 3G 850MHz)

I have the 6210, I'm fine with wifi only because 1) I'm not paying for yet another data plan, and 2) tethering your phone to the tab works great, assuming you have a smartphone.

I second that. In addition, the extra screen resolution and slight bump in processor speed are not worth the extra money IMO. Good Luck with your purchase!
I think you should go on and get it. Sure, it lacks Super amoled screen, but I find that people that randomly see my tablet have no problem with my screen.
In fact they say the screen is pretty awesome. In fact, the only real people who seem to notice the screen are fellow tech people.

Just bought my LG G Pro 2 D838

I have just bought my LG G Pro 2 off eBay for £320 from a UK stocked supply so hopefully will be getting it tomorrow. I am on the Three network so 4G should work fine, although the 800 band 4G won't be supported when they roll it out in the rural areas, but I don't mind that. I currently have an iPhone 5S and iPad, and having previously had all android devices I have just never been able to get into the Apple products, I think they are way over rated, so the iPhone and iPad I have are going on eBay next week, and this LG G Pro 2 will be a compromise over having 2 different devices ). I have read so many positive things about the G Pro 2 and they aren't loaded with stupid technology you don't need, and they are cheaper than Samsung phones. I was looking at the Sony Z Ultra as they are selling them for £250 on Expansys, but I felt it was too big, and many reviewers said the screen wasn't bright enough and the battery isn't removable. So what are your opinions for those of you who already have this phone?

Congratulations on your purchase. You're going to love this phone. The screen might be on the bigger side but I find it perfect for reading on the go and playing games. The minimal bezels and the amazing battery life are such a treat to have. and it has a much slimmer profile than I had expected. All the best for using the phone. Hi there everyone the phone arrived today, am very impressed, I think the screen is better than my iPhone 5s which is going on eBay next week lol. It blows my iPad air out of the water too, I have always been disappointed with the display on the iPad air. It reminds me of a TN panel on a budget laptop.
I can see this LG G Pro 2 serving me well, its easy to use and I love the UI, which am surprised about as I normally like vanilla stock android. It just seems to work. I can't believe LG hasn't released this phone in the UK. I think it would do very well as far as phablets go. I'll update more as the day goes on.
I haven't seen any FM radio by the way. If you have unlimited data plan just stream it on one of the many radio streaming sites.

I have received mine yesterday evening and it's gorgeous. What a beautiful screen. As I have a G2 as well the speed seems the same, may be sometimes a little faster.
B.t.w. I cannot select "swype" from keyboard. I could on my G2. Is that normal? Okay I have installes Swype for now but the G3 keyboard wolud have been nicer.

I already rooted my D838 and have installed the G3 keyboard as well. But that doesn't give you the trace function on the D838. I searched a bit further and found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531417 where is described how to enable the swipe/trace function. After edit my build.prop swipe is working fine with the LG G3 keyboard. Also G2tweakbox xposed addon works really well on our D838.

Hello all
Does any of you know about the availability of the D837 version in Europe (particularly UK) all I can see on eBay is the D838. My concern is that the D838 only supports 1800 / 2600 on 4G. I am with "Three Mobile" which as I understand mainly uses 800. I can see that the D837 has better frequency support on 2G and 4G which is more useful to me as Three user and also because I travel quite often.
I don't have much information about the F350 model but I can see on eBay being sold from Korea or China (I rather buy from a UK seller), does any one know which frequencies this version supports.
And the last question to the OP (or anyone in a similar situation). I can see that you have bought the D837 and using Three mobile, have you had any issues so far, how does the 4G performs?
Your help would be much appreciated.
LTE bands
I have the F350s, and in the hidden service menu you can choose other LTE bands, and other GSM frequency's then what is listed in the phone spec. For example I'm in the the US on AT&T and LTE band 17 is a option and works great.
this phone is a hidden gem....
I've had my LG G Pro 2 32GB for a couple of months now, it's the best phone I've had since my Sony Xperia Z Ultra 16GB. But now it's time to move on to another device so put it up for sale. It's a shame LG messed up the D83810F update, looking forward to G Pro 3 if LG bother with it.

D837 is rare. i wanted to buy one in HK (the seller advertised it) but it was just a sales tactic to get people in the door. most phones from here will be the F350 or D838.
i use GiffGaff in the UK which is on the O2 network so i'll be on 3G when I come over later this month.
While 3 does use some 800MHz, the official line from them is your device needs to support 1800MHz.

Moto G5 plus question.

Hello I'm new to this forum. Nice to meet everyone. Please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong section, if I did please feel free to move this thread. My question is, I currently have a Samsung galaxy S6 on Sprint. I'm looking for another phone, my galaxy s6 battery is not lasting very long any more, 4 hours if I'm lucky, I'm not a heavy user at all, and the touch screen is starting to go as well. I have been looking at the moto G5 plus, and it looks like a good phone. Is it as good or better than the S6 that I currently own? Is there any other phones that you guys would recommend other than the G5 that I can buy outright at a similar price on the sprint network? I don't want to do a contract anymore. What attracted me to the G5 is that I can buy it outright for only $229.00 and that I can use it on the sprint network, most unlocked phones only work on GSM networks. I heard that the Moto G5 plus doesn't have a compass, does the GPS on it still work Ok? Thanks for all the help.

I was surprised how well this phone is supported on XDA and it looks quite good on paper, i have 1 question i cannot find answer to:
Does this phone support Carrier Aggregation in Europe? (4G+)
It you buy EU version then yes. If you buy India, China (RMQ) or any other version than EU then definitely not. So I heard.

Nice. But in my country mi 9 lite 6gb and realme xt 8gb are similarly priced. If I decides to increase my budget then I will go for realme xt. Sd712 over sd710.
According to realme support no it doesn't.
Also I'm based in Italy and can confirm you there is no sign of 4g+ even though I live near a Tri-Band bts (3-7-20) and my place is full of two and three bands bts.
Considering to return the phone for exactly this reason. My old op3t had full 4g+ in the same position

I still can't believe eu version doesn't support 4g+. I mean did you check sites if they show whether or not this device supports it or not? I mean I definitely did before buying but I only see which bands does the device support. Not the technology (3g and 4g is present but I don't see 4g+). If you didn't check for it then why did you buy? If you did check but it was written to be present but it is not, shouldn't you get s full refund or device return + refund??

I can't believe it either, it was a BIG surprise to see it lacks it. In 2019, ANY and i mean ANY device you buy got a form of CA, even a Huawei MTK I just bought for dad for 99 euros. Of course this is also specified, for example as you can see there is mention for LTE-A (which is LTE+)
https://www.gsmarena.com/realme_5_pro-9801.php
I couldn't believe it so I sent an email to Realme customer service asking if the phone indeed supported LTE-A like specified and like supported by its chipset (snapdragon 712 is a 3*20mhz capable chipset) and they replied "realme 5 pro doesn't support LTE+"
Then, after more than TEN days, they replied again to the same email by saying that they were sorry for the previous reply and that the phone DOES support LTE+ (is this a professional service?)
I asked them how I can check which bands gets aggregated and why there is no sign of a 4g+ or lte+ icons like all other phones and... they never replied
I've read around that Realme support is a total crap, but I really tried and hoped they can answer about specs of a phone they produce and sell directly.
To dig further another guy here on xda sent some network guru screenshots where it is clearly shown that it only can catch a single band and not multiple.
So at this point I'm thinking about it. I've got until 31/01/2020 to be able to get a full refund but kinda I still like the phone speed, but this network problem and the camera (which is the worst 48Mpixel sensor I've ever tried, but it seems to be a software issue) kills my willingness to keep it. I was also waiting if any new update can fix either of the problems so I guess I'll wait a lil more, but still I can't advice to buy this phone. Xiaomi on the same price level doesn't have any of these major issues even though their chipsets are a little behind.

Wow... Just wow. All these bits and pieces of info are priceless and shocking to me. Thank you. Me too, I prefer the speed of the phone, the battery and ufs file storage, furthermore vooc charging. Amazingly conformable for my hand as well. Overall I'm really in love with it but kind of hate it at the same tine. My major problems are camera and connectivity. Both are extremely crucial when you take a look at a smartphone. Btw even oneplus uses the same sensor as our device. A developer of rm5p guessed that perhaps the difference is using different lens, not the sensors. I'm not sure. Anyway, we know more now at least. It's a start.

Nice. But in my country mi 9 lite 6gb and realme xt 8gb are similarly priced. If I decides to increase my budget then I will go for realme xt. Sd712 over sd710.

They are not similarly priced at all, mi 9 lite was on sale for 45,000 which is much cheaper than xt 54,000, sd712 vs sd710 very slight difference but 9 lite has its own advantages such as better selfie cam.
If you are looking to buy mi 9 lite box pack you can contact me, I can get you a good deal.

Rootable phones 2021

I am looking for a new phone. It must be easily rootable, probably using Magisk, so I can record calls. Recovery would be nice, too.
It must have a micro sd slot, so I can easily
back it up so if I have to factory reset it, my texts, call history, Pictures, etc. will not be lost. I would like it to be usable with any US
Carrier. Regardless, it must work with AT&T. Maybe dual sim, not a deal breaker if it's not. Needs to have a decent Camera. Please,
suggest some phones for me. The phone also needs to have decent 5g capability

Thanks for the reply, but I have heard you have to pay to have the bootloader unlocked on the Samsung phones, is that true of tha A52 5G? If anyone else has suggestions of other newer 5g phones that meet these specs, please post. Let's make this a complete list, thanks, everyone. And if you want to list other models with no sd slot, OK, but please specify that in your post.

Galaxy A52 5G has all your post requirements. What you have heard about is carrier lock, for an example, if you bought a Verizon Galaxy Note8, Verizon can choose to not allow modifications.
The problem with carriers is that they demand locked bootloader, not so cool with power users.
You can buy an unlocked model, of course. But if you are bothered, then I can only recommend you Xiaomi devices. They're the most developer friendly phones so far, with great specs, and very affordable prices, and availability in USA.

I am interested in the A52 5G. Looking online it seems they are only available in international versions, and some of them seem to lack some of the 5G bands, or functionality, and they don't properly list the phones specs. I want to avoid buying a one that was built without all functionality. Would you mind recommending where to purchase one, I want one with Max memory, and with the SD slot, that will support as much of the 5G spectrum that at&t offers as possible. Thanks.

Galaxy A52 5G specs. As you can see, device can go up to 256 GB of storage, and 8 GB of RAM, the specs are magnificent, has all what a premium user might need.
The SD Card slot on this device can run up to 2 TB in size. That's very huge, compared to the 512 GB limit on last year's Galaxy A51.
However, I'm sad to deliver you this, Galaxy A52 5G does not have AT&T's 5G bands. Check this site to know more. This does not mean 5G won't work. But it'll be limited to only certain areas. (AT&T are still working on their 5G).
You can use that site to check another phone, if your eyes fell on one, and see which bands it possess that is compatible with USA carriers.
We don't use online markets for shop, I lack the experience. Apologies, I won't be able to help you at that.
