i don't think it's possible without formatting data, especially if your bootloader is locked.
if you have allready installed twrp or can install it without pain, boot to twrp recovery.
Go to or search for /system/data locksettings.db (or something thats similliar like lock*.db) delet it.
Your screen will be unlocked after reboot.
This removes fingerprints too.

Hi Team,
I have motorola xt-910 asi have updated it to ICS from Ginger Bread. So before updating it i have kept a pattern lock and so after updating to ICS know i want to remove the Pattern lock but i am unable to remove it,even i have gone to settings->Security->Screen Lock is None. But then also it is showing that same patter lock.So please help me to remove this pattern lock.
Regards,
Ishant
Are you sure it isn't any 3rd party lockscreen that you're using?
Try a factory reset. That will definitely remove it. Have backup for all stuff you need before doing it.
Hi,
After updating to 7.0 nougat by official Europe update,
My fingerprint sensor stopped responding, when I'm trying to add new fingerprint it wouldn't let me even try, It shows a message (Attention: make sure that the home key is clean and dry, then try again) and then it goes back to the main lock screen settings menu.
I'm really desperate, already tried everything, plz help!

Have you tried to factory reset or just flash android 7.0 with Odin. I would recommend wiping after installing an update like 7.0 anyway updating always causes bugs and issues for me.

I also just updated my SM-G935FD via OTA to Android version 7.0.
Since then, fingerprint scanner is not working. Like for OP, all tests fail under HwModuleTest.
I tried to remove all fingerprints, but it is impossible to add new fingerprints - the error message is "Make sure that the Home key is clean and dry, then try again." Obviously, the fingerprint sensor is as dry and clean as it was before the update (when it worked perfectly).
Since then I tried, unsuccessfully:
- removing old fingerprints and adding new fingerprints (does not work, cf. above)
- formatting cache partition
- performing a hardware reset
- flashed the stock firmware G935FXXU1DQB3 with Odin
Please advice, thanks.

If you have tried to flash stock firmware in Odin, I'm really not sure what the issue is, if it was just a glitch in the software it should probably have been fixed by a wipe and flash with Odin. If your phone is still under warranty I would bring it back into the Samsung shop or contact them over the internet to inquire about fixing it.
The same exact problem has happened to me too . I'm tired of unlocking with patterns
What should we do ?
This cannot be a hardware issue cuz phone was fine right before the update

Do you still have the issue ?
I have the same problem ???
What the way to fix this issue
I had that problem sometimes and in the end the main reason was really sweat on my fingers and dirt on the home button.
I know this doesn't sound like a solution, but it surprised me as well. Just try drying your fingers and clean the surface of the home button.
Hi There! I encountered the same issue earlier but then suddenly my fingerprint sensor works normally. The last thing I that I made changes to my phone was to reset the password of my samsung account. Not if there was a security breach that happened but after resetting the password, works fine for me. I suggest that you back up your phone's data before and after resetting your Samsung account.
I have this problem for 1 year, tried to change the password but didnt work.
IS someone still struggling with this problem ? Yesterday i upgraded to DevBase 6.0 Oreo newest build. But after the flashing process the fingerprint sensor act in a unusual manner. Sometimes i could unlock the phone sometimes it directly jumps to the pattern unlock screen. Any news about the problem ? I wiped cache/dalvik and i resetted my password of the samsung account - nothing helps.
Any help, ideas, links are highly appreciated
Cheers
Rhonin

One sure way to end the issue is to get her a non smartphone.
App lock would sorta work but not exactly, pretty much anything you do can be bypassed by either factory resetting or by reflashing stock firmware.
You would have to root and install TWRP then pin lock TWRP so she wouldn't be able to unlock it to flash the device or factory reset using recovery, then you'd have to make sure USB debugging is off then password lock her system settings so she couldn't re-enable it, this would prevent her from flashing stock firmware or factory resetting using system settings. Then you'd have to lock playstore so she can't install the apps that are causing problems, or you could install the problem apps and lock them to keep her from using them(although she might still be able to uninstall those apps and reinstall them from the web and they wouldn't be locked).
You can make it difficult for her but blocking her completely would require heavy specific modification to the device, if it's even possible.

oww... hmm sure i'll try that and i'll let u know
thanks man!
I unlocked the bootloader today without any noticable averse effects. When I was setting up the phone I restored from Google's cloud backup. While I was going through setting up the lock screen and it wouldn't let me. I would go through the motions to add a fingerprint but every time I would add a pattern I would be asked to add the pattern again. No matter what I do, setting up the lock screen will not stick! I also performed a factory reset and didn't restore anything from the cloud backup and no luck. Does anyone else have this problem? If you know how to fix it I would really appreciate it. Here's a couple screen shots, but I don't think they'll help. Here's to trying
I just got Magisk installed after flashing a patched boot image through fastboot and I still can't add the fingerprint or lock screen. Any suggestions are welcome
I was unable to lock my screen with my bootloader unlocked and i need it locked for some of my apps to work so i relocked my bootloader.

I ran into this problem as well. It would not let me set any kind of lock screen. I was trying to install the Verizon software in order to get WiFi calling, per the thread elsewhere here in the Z4 forums.
I had thought the issue was related to either Magisk, copying from my old phone, or when I was trying to set the lock screen during the setup process, so I ended up doing the following (going from having bootloader unlock and running on Verizon rom but not being able to add a screen lock)
-Wipe data
-Flash initial Verizon ROM
-Do initial setup but skip trying to set screen lock in the setup process
-After setup, then set screen lock
-Update to latest Verizon ROM
-Flash patched boot image corresponding to the updated ROM
I'm not sure if the problem was Magisk related or if it got screwed up setting the lock screen during the initial setup process and skipping that and doing it later fixed the issue, but those were my two guesses. Eventually it all worked, and I now have lock screen and root via Magisk working along with WiFi calling. It passes Safety Net.
I had the same thing happen when I first got my phone. What ended up resolving the issue for me was that I flashed the image as root in Linux.
Hi,
After unlocking the bootloader with the latest official app, I cannot change the screen lock method of my Zenfone 6 with a message saying "Screen lock was already changed, try again with the new screen lock" and I can only choose "None" or "Swipe". The fingerprint breaks as a consequence because it relies on PIN/password/Gesture.
The phone comes with a fingerprint + password authentication before the unlocking, which seems to cause my issue due to mess-up of the TEE. Factory reset / Reflashing the whole image doesn't work.
Anyone experiencing similar issues? Is there any way to re-enable other unlocking methods?
Thanks!
Same happened to me,
I got back the pin option only when I relock the bootloader.
I used the official asus application, I'm gonna try the adb unlock option
Same thing here. Unlocking the bootloader breaks it. I fixed mine by flashing the downgrade to P zip, setting my phone all back up and then updating to Q. You might be able to just reflash Q and have it work, but if that fails go to P and then upgrade. Haven't had an issue since.
Did you downgrade to P being bootloader unlocked? If so , did you use the official asus method with their apk, or did you unlock with adb?
Thanks for your response !!!

I can confirm that reflashing stock Q image doesn't work.

I could never get the adb unlock method to work at all. I used the app to unlock, stayed unlocked and flashed back to Pie, then updated to Q

So, I am on a custom ROM, but I understand that you solved this on stock. Does anyone have experience how this can be solved on a custom ROM? Thanks!
Hey, I was having the same problem and tried doing several things without success (Like deleting files in the /data/misc/keystore, changing different ROMS, etc). What fixed it for me was restoring the vendor partition, the problem was that I removed the enforced encryption flag and that was causing problems with the GSIs I was installing.

how did you restore the vendor partition? did you use the backup on twrp or something? is there a flashable zip?
also did this happen after you unlocked or after you installed a custom ROM with encryption disabled?
Did you guys manage to fix it? I actually have the same problem with my Redmi 8A after flashing Magisk on Havoc and Stock ROM. I tried to delete the locksettings. db and .key files but i still can't set a pattern or PIN

Spot on !
Removing the .key and lockfiles from /data/system works !
I can set PIN again
....
Swipe TWRP on your phone, enter the system, and delete 2 locksettings....file in the DATA\ SYSTEM\ folder directory.. The file at the beginning can be successfully protected by restarting and setting a password or fingerprint.
