Question Keyboard app - Xiaomi Mix Fold 2

I was reading the discussion in the general "anyone have the Mix Fold 2 already" thread and I wanted to ask a follow up question about finding a keyboard app that makes the device more user friendly. The stock Sogou keyboard scales very well on the folded screen as well as in both portrait and landscape modes when the device is unfolded, but the lack of full English (Latin) character and symbol translation is too annoying. Gboard is fine in landscape mode, but the device seems to display websites and most apps better in portrait mode and in that mode the keyboard takes up half the screen and has no split key mode. Swifkey has a decent split key mode, but it stays in split key mode when you fold the phone making the keyboard too small on the folded screen. Now that MIUI 13.1 Pad firmware has been released for Europe and India for the Mi Pad 5, I've been trying to find out what stock keyboard app Xiaomi includes on that global firmware as it might work well on the MIUI 13.1 Fold firmware that we are on.

I think the best hope for a perfect keyboard is to get gboard working with that magisk module androplus posted.
i wish it was possible to port the samsung keybaord from the fold

I'm thinking I was definitely doing something wrong as I tried for upward of an hour and I could not get any of the Rboard flags to make a difference. I tried both the Magisk and the Gboard app methods but neither made a difference. I'm sure it's a simple oversight.

Nope, I posted a reply asking @AndroPlus for a bit of help in the main thread but no reply unfortunately.

For me this FoldableSplit.rboard works when I load it.
If it doesn't work even after loading it, you should ask the Rboard developer to see if there's bug

I posted elsewhere about this and I don't want to root my device to use RBoard so I have resolved the issue with a Tasker profile using Hinge sensor state, so now I have Gboard on Folded and SwiftKey in split mode on Unfolded changing seamlessly!

I did post the profile xml elsewhere anyway see attached. As always please backup before applying these just to be safe.
I've also started experimenting other tasker profiles example to handle DPI scaling on the fly per app basis or global when unfolded. Tasker and Macrodroid have proven to be very usefull for this device.

Hi,
Can I check with you on how to use Macrodroid to import the 2 profiles that you shared?

Hi Gfreek. So glad I finally found this thread. I own the Mix Fold 2 since yesterday and I am very satisfied with it so far. I m coming from a Samsung Fold 4.
Can you provide me with a very noob guide to explain how I can make the gboard and SwiftKey combination with Tasker please?
The stock Soguo keyboard seems to have English support but I don t know if it has support for Dutch spelling correction. The options/menu of the Soguo settings is in Chinese so I cannot figure out if it supports more languages

So, I m a bit on my way with this. I bought Tasker and download your 2 .xml files. Both Swiftkey and Gboard are installed. I granted permission via the Tasker Permission on my laptop.
I imported both xmls in the TASKS menu.
What do I need to do now exactly?

Those flags didn't make any difference for me. Landscape unfolded still doesn't have split keyboard key.

HI, have you enabled all the permissions for the Tasker? so it runs in the background as Miui 13 has very aggressive battery management of apps, also have you given the adb permissions for the Tasker so it can change systems settings etc...?

[REQ] 2 Different Keyboards Portrait -> Landscape

Hey there,
I know I'm a noob on this website, but I'm pretty regular on AndroidForums.com and I lurk on here all the time. Just wondering if there was any way that someone could add the ability to have a different keyboard in portrait than in landscape. I use Swype for portrait, but in landscape it just sucks! It would be awesome if we had the ability to have Swype in portrait and something like the stock keyboard in landscape.
Thanks to all the devs on this website, you guys are awesome! And sorry if this is in the wrong section.
i would also like to know this
I'd like the same thing, I asked a little over a month ago, but got no response.
Also, your thread will probably be moved to general. Heads up.
Would like this feature in roms to.
Just curious tho. How do I download swype? Do i have to go to their website and fill out all the beta applications? I thought it was closed.

Another newbie requesting this. I definitely agree with the fact that swype sucks in landscape mode.
With Tasker you can set it up so when you turn the phone on its side it brings up the input method dialog and you can pick from there. When you turn the phone back to normal it asks again. Not the perfect solution but it is quicker than doing it the long way.

Apps working in portait modeonly?

Many apps I have installed that are not honeycomb versions, while still working have some odd behaviours. The most common is that some launch in portrait mode even when docked and either don't rotate to landscape or only part of the app on certain screens will be viewable in landscape. When not docked it's not an issue as i can rotate the screen but it makes these apps unusable with the keyboard dock connected. Any ideas on how to force landscape mode?
Some examples are medscape, yahoo sportacular.....
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Well, if it makes you feel better (probably not), there are some Honeycomb "optimized" apps that do the same thing (I'm looking at you, Nook store). Not sure if there is a way to force landscape barring a code edit.
Why Portrait...... The Market only opens and stays in Landscape.

Yes honeycomb market is landscape only but the apps I refer to keep starting to rotate to landscape then switch to portrait so unviewable when docked as writing is sideways
I believe it is dependent on the app. I installed a volume manager to automatically mute when I'm in class and it only runs in portrait. I am pretty sure that when designing apps, developers have to decide where elements go in both portrait and landscape orientation and if they design only for one, then that's all you get.
Also, why DID they make the market landscape only? That's so dumb. Probably a topic for another thread though.
In many cases it'd work fine in landscape if the developers just would have configured it to allow it. A lot of apps could take the first step towards being "honeycomb optimized" with a one line configuration change. Some might need some additional graphics or layout tweaks, but a lot of the time it will scale things just fine in landscape.
And yes, I think it's just as silly that the Market is forced to landscape. But the Honeycomb market sucks in many other ways too (can't write reviews? Seriously???)

There is a simple fix for this that i have used on many apps. Does not work for all, so YMMV.
Grab an app calle APKEdit.
Get the apk off your device.
Load it in apkedit.
Go to the details tab and click on browse.
Find the AndroidManifext.xml file and edit in notepad.
Replace "portrait" with "sensor" or "landscape" and save
then click apply in apkedit.
Uninstall your app and install the new APK.
Should work.

True, but you can't update from the market anymore. And unless you are rooted and use Titanium, you can't preserve data if the app doesn't have a sync or import/export feature.

you are correct, but if the app doesn't work well in one layout or another that you want it's a minor inconvenicence to check the market once in a while and only update when something significant changes. then reapplh this fix. yes thd devs should be pushed go fix this. this is just how i deal with it, if you are uncomfortable with it then definitely dont do it and just send feedback to the dev.

[APP]Rotation Lock Adaptive - Rotate anyway you want

Title says it all you can rotate your screen on your likes.
Adaptive rotation - if you find automatic screen rotation annoying then this app is for you. It will detect the device's orientation and show a transparent button to let you decide whether the screen should be rotated to landscape or portrait
Lock the screen in landscape or portrait - it will lock the screen the way you want even when some apps don't offer certain orientation
Increase productivity - unnecessary rotation will distract you and interrupt your workflow!
Power saving - every screen rotation will involve a lot of computation. By reducing unnecessary rotation the battery will last a bit longer
There are 8 modes which can be chosen in notification bar:
1. Adaptive mode - detect the device's orientation and prompt you whether to rotate the orientation
2. Landscape - force the orientation in landscape
3. Portrait - force the orientation in portrait
4. Reverse Portrait - force the orientation in reverse portrait
5. Reverse Landscape - force the orientation in reverse Landscape
6. Force auto - automatically rotate the screen in all orientation
7. Stock auto - exactly the same as original auto mode
8. Stock portrait - exactly the same as original portrait mode

Hello I use this app. It has one bug: wanting to customize settings for individual applications but the list loads infinitely.
Sent from LT22i using Tapatalk 2
I concur. It's annoying that it's slow-loading every time I want to customize per app rotation.
Also, it would be nice to have FORCE PORTRAIT, for the home pages. That is, Force Portrait = stock portrait or reverse portrait.
Fix these two and I will rate 6 stars, if allowed.
I just tried out this app and thought it was great so bought the full version. However, the option to hide the notification tray icon (which is one of the features of the paid version) did not work for me. Until I can hide the notifcation I won't be using this app which is a shame because I really like the concept. I am using a Nexus 5 with stock Android
I also think there is room for further improvement. Eg. I would like to be able to control the duration of time that the 'overlay' button appears for. Also if it's technically possibe to control the degree of rotation before the overlay button appears.
This app is soo great! But the adaptive mode is not working since (I believe) Android 6. Is there a fix, or alternative app? Thank you!

I finally got around to implementing the most important changes to support lower Android versions. Since the fixes are done very roughly, I released it as a beta version only. If you'd like to try it, just opt in to the beta program here. It should work fine on Android 7.0, as my changes were necessary only for Android 5.0 and lower.

I have found a solution on my Redmi Note 4. It has Androi 7.0 with MIUI, so I'm not sure that original Android UI has the same menuitems.
My exact problem was that the overlay pop-up did not appear. After some investigation I have found the cause: the app did not have permissions and it did not ask for it. So I had to set it manually in Phone Settings/Permissions/Other Permissions/Adaptive Rotation Lock(Free)/Display pop-up window. I set it true, and it works well now.
Saentis, could you please also make your app able to override autorotate in apps like youtube and mxplayer? I was able to do this with the old Rotation Lock Adaptive app. Otherwise, your app would be perfect. Thanks.

This took a long time.. But I finally added this feature! You can now force rotation anywhere. There are still some limitations (for example reverse portrait doesn't always work and I frankly don't know why) but overall and also specifically for YouTube it works great!

App Notifications [APP] Change any notification sound for any app, EMUI 8.1

I'm sharing another Tasker made app with one simple purpose: get you into the hidden App Notifications menu so you can change notification sounds. As many of you know this menu is not accessible through system settings. There are many methods of accessing it, including Nova, Tasker, or other shortcut managers but they all require work and a bit of knowledge. This app makes it simple for anyone. Even advanced users may find it handy.
It does not require root or any special privilege. Simply launch the app to enter the App Notification menu. This accesses the built in Android notification management system and is simply the best way to manage your notification settings.
Please hit thanks if you find it useful ?
(Because of the nature of this workaround it will only work on the official EMUI 8.1 release for now. No custom ROM or beta support, sorry. Once I've updated to 9 I'll share the new fix if necessary. I have Canadian L04 model though and updates happen here slowly)
Not working for me (P20 Pro EMUI 9 Beta). App doesn't launch when tapped.

I don't have 9 yet but I'd assume you'll find it in settings under Notifications where it should be. AFAIK it was unintentionally left out in 8.1 which is why we had trouble. If it's included in 9 a simple search through settings should reward you. ?

Apparently you do not understand what we're trying to accomplish. You cannot change notification sounds in the menu you refer to in EMUI 8, only turn them off. But there is a secret hidden menu that allows to change any notification sound for any app you like. It may look similar to the one you are thinking of but if you know what you're doing it is very different, there are far more options available. You cannot get to this menu by any other means than sending an intent, whether via command, a shortcut from a launcher or an app like I've shared. Trust me, there is a purpose for this or I wouldn't have so many thanks for it already. But if you're okay with having the same notification sound for every single app on your phone that's cool too. Whatever floats your boat. ?
We can use Nova Launcher to create a shortcut that link to this Notification settings in this thread.

You can use Nova Launcher to do this, yes. Other methods all involve installing a shortcut creation app of some kind and finding the correct settings entry. This app is for people who do not use Nova or would prefer a simple method with the hard work done for them. It's a pain digging through all those settings entries if you don't need to. ?

I'm sorry, but to change the sound for any app I go to config/applications/aplications/ choose the application I want then manage notification then sound and choose what I want... Screen Mod for Newbies

Hi to all.
Happy with my Fold 2. Would be extremely happy if I could make one mod without root:
If apps (and UI if possible) would behave as if though there was no punch hole!
I'm not talking about the setting to change the aspect ratio of an app.
Some apps don't work properly even if you do that.
Any way to just make the phone work like it had no camera at all at the front (of the big screen)?
Please keep in mind that a)I'm not a programmer , just a user
and b)I don't want to root my device.
Thanks in advance

Thanks for your reply my friend but that's exactly what I want to avoid in the first place.
I want all apps and ui to use Full Screen without a black bar.
In other words all apps to use all the screen real estate like there is no camera there. Most games and apps do that but not all and browser also leaves that part blank when in landscape mode.
I know it can be done but I don't know how
