Unlocked Pixel 3 XL works on Verizon w. radio flash? - Google Pixel 3 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

If you flash the radio from the factory Verizon image for a given android version:
Factory Images for Nexus and Pixel Devices | Google Play services | Google for Developers
developers.google.com
Onto the google unlocked variation, can you use it with something like Lineage OS (using same android version), over Verizon network successfully?
Been searching here haven't quite found this answer.
thanks

AFAIK, the unlocked version works on Verizon. Why do you want to flash the Verizon radio?

Great! I don't want to if I don't have to but it seemed like it might be what one had to do.
I'll pick one up and give it a whirl and update results here.

So far after updating stock to 12.x then replacing with LOS 12.x it does not work. No LTE symbol with the sim chip inserted. Had this chip for a while who knows maybe it could be too old but I doubt it.
I'm going to try extracting the radio from the factory image and see what happens and also getting another sim.

Some ROMs report LTE as 4G on some networks. If yours shows 4G it's LTE as that's the only kind of 4G that Verizon supports.
If you aren't seeing 4G or LTE, did it work on the stock ROM? if so it's an LOS issue, try a network reset, factory reset, LOS reinstall etc.
If you didn't have LTE on the stock ROM Verizon is probably blocking it. Verizon uses an IMEI whitelist. The US unlocked Pixels directly from Google or Fi should be on the whitelist, Pixels originally from other US operators might be and international model Pixels definitely would not be. You can check if Verizon will accept your IMEI at https://www.verizon.com/od/prepaid/bring-your-own-device/
If you are a Verizon postpaid customer you might be able to get your IMEI whitelisted by high level Verizon tech support although it won't be easy.
FYI, flashing a different radio will not change the IMEI.

[Q] Moto G LTE 3G/H+ is very slow

I've owned my Moto G for a fortnight now and the 3G speeds on it have been dreadful - it peaks at 0.3 download and 0.2 upload. When on wifi it has around 7 download and 1.2 upload. I have no idea why it is so slow. Can anybody give me any suggestions to speed it up?
I supposed you mean 0.3M up and 0.2M down. This is not 3G/HSPA. Perhaps, you are being throttled or just bad network coverage. So that's like 300k down and 200k up.
I have been able to reached 6M down and 1.5M up on unlocked phones on AT&T with HSPA using the non-LTE provisioned wap.cingular APN.
My latest results.

I might have to, I've tried pretty much everything else. The only things I haven't tried yet are a factory reset, putting my sim card into another phone and putting a different sim into my 'faulty' phone.
You could try flashing the latest full factory firmware image for your model via fastboot. That will also update the radio. You do not need to unlock Bootloader for this.

Yeah, you are fine. Flash the Tesco firmware image. Or the Retail GB one will work also. The latter is a slightly more recent build.

Verizon M8 unlocked w/ TMO sim, same flash process?

Hello, just upgraded from a Galaxy S4 on T-Mobile to an unlocked Verizon HTC One M8 handset. Popped in the sim, I can send and receive text, data on HSPA/3G mode but not one LTE or Global mode (anyone know why this is? I'd like to be able to use t-mobiles LTE and not just HSPA/3G), get the usual "sim unknown source" stuff. I am wanting to flash Skydragon.
My question, is there anything special I need to do before/after I flash these, since I'm using a different network than what the handset was originally supposed to be on? Maybe I need to flash different radio? This is my first time using an unlocked phone, previously all my phones with custom ROMs were on the same network as the handset variant.
Otherwise, would I just update to the latest 5.0.1 OTA update from Verizon, root/unlock bootloader, install TWRP, then flash Skydragon, and I'm all good?
Edit: Well, further reading seems to indicate to me that it turns out verizon M8 devices already updated to 5.0.x are still not able to be rooted at this time?
Thanks for the help

Convert SM-G930T to SM-G930A so I can use AT&T LTE bands.

Hi All, I want to continue using my AT&T prepaid plan but I recently bought a locked T-Mobile Galaxy S7 SM-G930T (I'm going to try to unlock it - if that doesn't work this is all moot). I would like to flash AT&T firmware so I can use the AT&T LTE bands. Can I follow the instructions in the link below once I've unlocked a T-Mobile SM-G930T and turn it into a SM-G930A?
http://www.droidviews.com/nougat-firmware-on-att-galaxy-s7s7-edge-sm-g930a-g935a/
I've read the link below... but it seems to be only if you want to continue using T-Mobile service which I don't.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...w-to-flash-att-nougat-to-t-mobile-s7-t3553610
Changing firmware doesn't have anything to do with what bands the hardware supports. Unlock it and throw the ATT SIM in. Only difference is carrier supported features and software (wifi calling, etc). Flashing ATT modem might improve coverage but all S7 support the same bands.
Thanks buddy for the reply. I'm used to using a custom ROM on my Android phones so this is new. Mostly CyanogenMod.
That's good to know I don't need to flash in order to get the bands but I understand I need to if I want OTA updates from at&t. It seems relatively simple that you just flash the AT&T ROM over the T-Mobile with Odin and then use some update file. It doesn't even effect Samsung pay and Knox which is great.
Stupid question: is the AT&T modem included with the AT&T rom? Also, with regards to the 2nd link in the OP what is the update file that you put on the sdcard to use in recovery - is that an OTA update because your ROM is different from your carrier?

I don't get why you would do this other than to have ATT bloat over TMO bloat (IMHO TMO has less bloat than ATT). There's no technical advantage. Am I missing something?

The amount of bloatware is irrelevant since you can freeze all bloatware on either build. I experienced many issues on the TMo version including issues with Android Auto, Google Assistant, and Tasker. I thought these apps were buggy but all of those issues were resolved on the AT&T version. The AT&T version seems to be a better, bug-free build.

Read that in a different thread you posted to after I responded. I think it's very YMMV though. But if you saw improvement then ??
Hi, did anyone ever complete this flash from SM-G930T to SM-G930A? I'd like to do this solely to try and get the wifi calling feature since my workplace has poor cell service but great wifi. I bought the T-Mobile phone, unlocked it, put the ATT sim in and everything but wifi calling works fine. I appreciate the reply!
This is much later in the year (11-8-2021) and ATT has posted the list of phone they say will work and it only shows G930A. It seems their test of working means it must have been sold by ATT. They say My G930T won't work. So Will ATT continue to use customer's unlocked phones it they were not orginally sold by ATT. They have the records. Will ATT refuse to use one of their SIMs even if the phone is Flashed to ATT logo. I do not want to throw away my G930T phone.

Hello and thank you. You posted this information and link back in 2017 and so much has changed. Mostly ATT is now working hard to get rid of all 3G towers and firing up 5G. They said my Galaxy S7-GM930T would not work so I think they link you posted will help me convert the phone back to a GM930A or U or U1. My question is,..Has anything in your post changed since 2017 and if so could you please advise me of what I need to do. Thanks very much.

Sprint S8 Active flash to T-Mobile?

So i've read that the sprint version of the S8 Active is on bootloader v5 and the T-Mobile version is bootloader v1. Is it then possible to flash the T-Mobile firmware onto the Sprint Variant ?. The device is already unlocked but i would like Wifi-calling to work for T-Mobile.
Edit 1: Found this and successfully fully flashed from Sprint to T-Mobile(everything works including Wifi Calling). Only works if you are on bootloader version 1.

I AM NOT THE CREATOR NOR DO I TAKE CREDIT FOR THIS
No apparently the bootloader version must match or be lower so in this case sprint is higher so you can't flash. I've tried and downloaded the tmobile oreo firmware; you'll just get a fail in odin

That is the part i am maybe not understanding. My Sprint S8 active says it is Software version G892USQS1ARC1. Doesn't that mean it is bootloader version 1?
Sorry I was wrong! I actually flashed it! Very happy right now. I was being stupid and using an older version of odin before. Now I successfully flashed sprint to t-mobile oreo with no problems! Use Odin 3.13.1; not prince comsy mod or anything else. So it was bootloader 1 after all; there were some misleading posts without proof. I will trust the software number from now on

I'm not sure. How can I check? I'm on Fido which is Canadian carrier without WiFi calling. I'm guessing I'm supposed to be looking for a tmobile WiFi calling app. See attachment screenshot for proof. Still recognizes my phone is from sprint
Yeah i just finished flashing it and i get the same as you. Phone still recognized as Sprint and no WiFi calling. Darn. Android 8.0 Oreo is a huge plus however.

I think we need to follow this guide to change carrier but the thing is there is no factory binary for the s8 active so this guide won't work until there is one...
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/switch-to-carrier-firmware-100-t3609487
Actually I have found and flashed a factory binary trying to change it to T-Mobile. The problem I ran into is they want you to download the firmware with "w" after the model number. That is what I think let's you change the option after typing in the code. That firmware is only for s8 I think(not active as it has the s8 model #). Without flashing that, after I typed in the code the only option I had to choose from was sprint. No "xac" or whatever it was.
If I am not mistaken. The model with the "w" is the Canadian version of the s8. The s8 active is US only I think.
So Im getting ready to pick up a Sprint version to use on Att or Tmobile (good deal). Are you guys seeing any issues after flashing? Thanks

The only thing I've notice is there is no option for mobile hotspot( i don't think it was there to begin with, i could be wrong however). Other than that it works perfectly. Great battery life and everything. Flash the userdata to get rid of the Sprint Boot animation if you'd like. I did it and now there is just the "Samsung s8 Active" logo, then lock screen. Goodluck.

WiFi calling works fine on T-Mobile without flashing to T-Mobile firmware. Only issue is that sometimes it gets stuck enabling WiFi calling requiring a reboot. Band 12 also works, its in the Sprint specifications. The big question I wonder about is if band 71 can be enabled.

Did you follow the video I posted?. Ignore all the other comments about things not working. When i updated the OP with the link, it fully flashed the sprint device to T-Mobile. The only thing you have to watch out for, is if your Sprint software is running a new bootloader. You can tell by looking at the baseband version number. This will only work if you are on bootloader 1. My baseband is currently "G892USQS1BRD5". The bootloader version is the 5th character starting from the right. The number 1 before "BRD5".

Running RETUS on a MetroPCS Ocean device

Last night as part of rooting, I was getting issues with the MetroPCS Ocean firmware with the update failing message. I took a look at the RETUS firmwares and saw the latest so I took a chance and was able to flash the Retail version with no problems, booted up and 'worked out of the box' so to speak. It is also lighter on the features since it doesn't include the MetroPCS apps. I am not going to try rooting with this one, but it seems to be quite stable and an a little faster if that makes any sense.
Your mileage may vary!
You assume any risk by attempting the same thing on your device, but I figured it would be something someone would be interested in knowing.
I'm running MetroPCS software on a Amazon device

Cons on both I've come across so far.
Cricket software on a MetroPCS device I get Boot screen says Bad key in top left corner before loading the device.
Amazon software on a MetroPCS device I get a Boot screen says untrusted device before loading the device.
Pros is they both work great.

Since you did that when you have the time, try to go back a lower build or your OG Build and check if you still have data and sim accses. I ask because (I have a RETUS) and since I flashed the latest one available "PPO29.114-108 May 1 Security Update" can't go back to OG Build it came with without losing data and sim detection. Something was updated in that build that even if you flash back it broke that. I even flashed the modem to check but no still no data or SIM detected at all. Only all fine in the most recent build.

Flashing a Carrier or Retail ROM won't ever unlock a Carrier Lock device. If it were that simple don't you think we will ever have this issue. Hell the term network lock won't even exist in a perfect world.

PSA. If you flsh Cricket, Metro etc Roth the RETUS Latest firmware you won't be able to go back to you LG firmware. That firmware updates the Bootloader and that preventa going back to a lower workifn version. You can doing what I posted earlier by while flashing back to OG Firmware skip flashing modem and fsg bins and don't execute the modem erase commands.

Unlocking a MetroPCS/TMO G7Power with the Server unlock app requires a person to remotely connect to your phone and edit your NV files. Currently they are changing the imei to a different model phone that they can generate the unlock codes for. Since they are using a different model phone imei, activating on Sprint Network could be an issue since Sprint is picky as to what phones they put on their network.
If I flash "retail" firmware on a TMO Sim locked Moto G7 power will it ask me for an unlock code that I don't have? Bought it on eBay and TMO says its eligible to unlock but refuses because I'm not the original owner. Bootloader is unlocked.
EDIT: Figured out my issue. Was my fault. Flashed the RETAILUS firmware on my MetroPCS model.
Thanks OP!
Also to add to this, the Metro model is NOT supposed to be compitable with Verizon due to lack of CDMA.... Well Magically the phone now supports CDMA so it has a CDMA radio in it!
