Hello, I've been searching and lurking.. I've unlocked the bootloader on my Pixel 3a. I've rooted before, restored before, nandroids etc etc. So I've been in the game for a little while. (all the way back to my LG Ally!) Anyways. I was wondering what would be the best method of Rooting and installing TWRP on the Pixel 3a at this point in time, and if TWRP is even possible at this point. (September 2022) Should I use Magisk? NetHunter seems to rely on the device having TWRP in order to flash the kernel. (but we don't NEED it to flash the kernel do we?) I keep coming across old posts which do not apply to the build of my phone and I'm feeling very lost. This phone is not my daily driver, and I am confident when it comes to restoring a soft-brick. It's a Google Fi pixel, bought from the google store, maybe that helps.
Android 11, RQ2A.210405.005 (info from recovery)
BL Version : b4s4-0.3-7062600 (fastboot)
Baseband Ver: g670-00105-210113-B-7078968 (fastboot)
Secure Boot - Yes (fastboot)
HW Ver - MP1.0 (fastboot)
EDIT: Rooted phone successfully using Magisk/patched boot.img.
NEW ISSUE! : The phone is showing up as a Pixel 5 now. In rootchecker, my first successful root shows Pixel 3a as the device. This has never happened to me before. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Wrong forum
Pixel 3a does not support twrp on android 10 yet afaik, https://twrp.me/site/update/2019/10/23/twrp-and-android-10.html
If you want to revert back to Android 9, download a Factory Image for your device from here https://developers.google.com/android/images, extract, boot phone in to bootloader and run the flash-all.bat. Make sure to back everything up first as this will wipe your device.
Greetings. After trying Derpfest on my Redmi Note 7 Pro, I decided to switch back to MiUI. I wiped out the entire Custom ROM, then installed Indian version firmware, and then installed the latest MiUI ROM in recovery mode (I prefer Orange Fox). After that, I wanted to relock my bootloader so I got the latest MiUI 11 fastboot ROM and then used MiFlash and used the clean_all_and_lock option. My device relocked it's bootloader, however, it turned out that several things like sensors or Find Device service were not working correctly. It also showed a message "Find device storage corrupted, your device is now unsafe". Looking for solutions, I ended up unlocking the bootloader again, getting back OFox, and installing the persist.img file which I extracted from my fastboot ROM. This fixed the issue with the sensors. But now, I still can't get access to services like Find Device (both from Xiaomi and Google). If I have to avoid the 'Find Device Storage corrupted' error, I have to unlock bootloader. If I have to lock bootloader, I get the error message. What am I supposed to do?
I also have tried older Fastboot ROMs, although they were all MiUI 11. Should I try fastbooting into a MiUI 10 ROM and then get OTA to do everything else? If this is the case, which specific version of MiUI 10 ROM should I flash? I can't remember which version my phone came with. My model number M1901F7S. And also, I've never used Magisk. I didn't really care if I wanted to root or not. Derpfest passed Safetynet pretty nicely. But now I do not wish to root. I don't want Magisk or anything else, I want to secure the phone just as it was before.
EDIT : Turns out that Find Device (from both Google and Xiaomi) are actually working, just in a less effective scale than what I previously used to have (before getting the custom ROM). But yet, can I bring my phone back to the locked bootloader state? I want to secure it completely, just like how it was when it came out of the box. I also cannot install apps like Netflix. I would really like to know how to relock my bootloader.
EDIT 2: I've fixed it. Indeed, I had to flash a stock MiUI 10 ROM. Version 10.0.2 and whatever number ahead worked for me and gave me no problems, and then I simply updated to MiUI 11 using OTA Updates.
However, I do not recommend using MiFlash tool, and instead recommend pasting the ROM files into your platform_tools folder and then running flash_all_lock/flash_all. MiFlash may sometimes glitch and cause problems.
Hi,
After I manually erased all the partitions on my Pixel (Sailfish) by using fastboot erase < name of the partition) on bootloader screen (please don't ask me why I did that :-| ) , I am not able to install Android 8.1 or any newer Android versios on that. I can install only Andorid 7.11 to 8.0 versions from google factory image site.
if I install 8. 1 or newer version, the device constantly reboots and sometimes stops in stock recovery or on the bootloader screen. I have tried pretty much everything with no sucess. Before erasing partitions, phone was working fine with Android 10 with December 2019 updates.
I will be ok and satisified if I can at least get Android 8.1 with July 2018 updates. Can someone please help me figure out what the heck is wrong with my device. There is no physical, or electrical damage on the device whatsoever.
Thanks.

There is a difference and something strange, that I can't seem to grasp, between any version of Android 8.0 or prior and Android 8.1 or newer. some partition(s), checksum or a flag seems to be off...goddamnit!:crying:

Well, I was able to get a copy of persist.img from someone online and restore the /persist partition on my OG Pixel (Sailfish) and now I am able to boot into Android 10. if someone needs any help in this regard, I will be more than happy to help. Thanks. ciao
I bypassed the 360 hr period to unlock Bootloader. I made a new Mi a/c and used a older software to do bypass the period. Older softwares have a error asking them to update the unlock tool to the latest version, but this software didn't prompt for such updates, rather unlocked my bootloader the same day I got my device.
Also, Official TWRP didn't recognize my Internal storage, and would get replaced by stock recovery even after flashing lazyflasher. So, I extracted the recovery image form Orangefox zip and flashed via the fastboot mode, and then flashed custom ROM over it, and finally it worked. I am currently on Havoc os v3.8 without google services and Agni Kernel 9.7. I couldn't get any version of Gcam working, although mine is not Indian Whyred version, so am currently using TRcam v7 clone. Everything is working well. I am getting 8-10 hours of SOT, depending on use.
I am not a developer, and am just a newbie, and If this thread could help other newbies like me, I'd be glad. Thanks.

Hello, Recently I discovered that my Pixel 3 XL couldn't use widevine L1. And I did some research and they said it's probably the persist.img. (Thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/how-to/widevine-l1-t4183011 ).
And today comparing my pixel 3 XL with my pixel 3 a I found out that my Pixel 3 XL doesn't have secure boot enabled and doesn't have NOS- production (idk what they mean but looks pretty important).
What I'm asking is if anyone could tell me how to correctly flash my device to get those back (and hopefully get widevine L1?). So far I've used Google website flash tool, if I'll have to use adb can someone tell how to do it exactly?
Ty.
