US iMessage problem from the perspective of an international student - General Questions and Answers

When I first came to the US, I was using a Galaxy S10 5G (Korean version), which doesn't work very well with US cell service (I'm using T-Mobile).
People still send SMS (or iMessage) to each other As expected when you're in a basement or inside a big building, there'll be low/no cell reception. I never cared about no cell reception because there's wifi practically everywhere on campus, and I can receive calls and messages with Whatsapp. But with SMS, I won't receive it because somehow wifi calling works but no wifi SMS.
Group SMS (or iMessage) Chaos. Not receiving group message on time. Messages sent to group appear as DM. Messages sent to mobdro kodi group is not received in chronological order, duplicated, etc. Hence I said chaos.
As much as I want to blame Apple for no letting iMessage be cross platform or adopt RCS, I think this is also the users fault. The solution (Whatsapp, Telegram, etc.) is literally free for everyone to switch to, but most people still just use text because that's what they are used to. I feel like this problem is like the imperial measurements, where they don't want to change cause they are used to it. However, metric measurements and other messaging apps are just better, so it's just ridiculous that Americans don't want to change. These basic societal problems are just fustrating and infuriating to foreigners.

[Q] Text messages over wifi

I searched this, and was surprised not to find any threads on this topic, as I'm sure it has been answered already, but anyways...
I'm travelling in the US for the next 2 weeks, and I want to avoid roaming charges on my cellphone. I do have wifi where I am, and I want to know if there's any way that I can use this to avoid roaming charges.
I know there are SMS apps that send texts over your data connection, and I just wanted to see if this would help me evade roaming charges.
On a side note, if anyone knows, does rogers charge roaming on incoming and outgoing, or just outgoing?
And, can I get both my incoming and outgoing to come through wifi?
Thanks in advance
Just wanted to bump this one up as I would really prefer to know the answer soon
I have textplus on my phone and that does allow me to send messages through wifi and I can also receive them. When I send a message it uses a really funny number (like 1001-2223202) But you select a name to be shown when the person receives the message. Also if you want to receive a message the sender has to reply to the funny number not your typical cell number, If the sender send you a message and you donèt have wifi on, the message shows up the next time you open the app.
Hope this helps....
I dont know why your are going out of your service area but another option is to pick up a SIM card for a local network when your away. You can get a cheap SIM and get a pay and talk type plan while your in that area, this way you can make local calls and message without worrying.
I guess it all depends on you situation.
Google voice works.
Sent from my Vibrant using xda app
@designerfx
I don't have an american number to tie Google Voice to, so I can't use it as it is exclusively for the states.
@hipditch
Thanks, I'll try that. I'm out of my service area because I'm on vacation

Serious Google Voice with Sprint issues

I am having some semi-consistent issues with Google Voice. I have Sprint integration. Yes, my app is set up correctly.
1. Texts sometimes arrive to my phone LATE or NEVER. I'll get texts from two days ago all at once on my phone, it's like the old days of SMS again.
2. Outgoing texts (using the native SMS app for android) sometimes are never sent. I wonder why people don't respond to me, and I check my outgoing logs on the google voice website, and a very select few aren't actually sent to anyone, even though the SMS app said it was sent.
It's basically those issues. Is anyone else having these problems with texting? It's scary thinking some things may not be getting through - how am I supposed to know which are and which aren't?
Does anyone know any resolutions to these problems?
Missing texts
I don't use google voice, and am a light text user but I have seen cases where texts have been delayed for as much as 2 days before they get to their destination.
Is there anyway we can bring these problems to google or sprint?
personally I dont use voice for texts that much just because of this type of issue, in all honesty all i really use voice for is when i have to call for customer service (Hp, Sony, exc) since they seem to take 4 hours to connect you to someone that speaks english

Text to landline feature for Android?

Hi everyone,
First I need to state that what I'm using is the new Fitbit charge band. It's a fitness band, not a smartwatch. I understand this but this fitness band does have an OLED screen that shows CALL NOTIFICATIONS, among other fitness data like steps, time, etc. What it doesn't do is show TEXT NOTIFICATIONS OR EMAILS.
This is going to be an odd question but I figure xda forum is just the place to ask. I need to figure out how to have texts on my phone show up as calls as well as text form notifications for my fitbit charge sports band. I've thought of everything such as forwarding to google voice and then forwarding back to my cellphone as a text to landline to receive my texts that way. But it seems the only way to get a text to landline is to literally have a landline telephone. Is there an app that could do this? Any help please!! I know this is confusing but I'm not the only person out there who would love this functionality.
Smartwatches just aren't low profile enough in my opinion and that is why I'm trying to jimmy rig this thing to work how I'd like.
Thanks for the help!!

Texting overseas

Am a small business owner and need to be able to access incoming and outgoing texts while on a cruise.on at&t.
WhatsApp seems to require the other party to be signed up which is not always the case. Is there another way around this besides buying the high-priced cellular plan? For example can I forward my phone to Google Voice and receive messages this way over WiFi?

Question Messages History and Voice + RCS

Hey guys.
I just got my Watch 4 and I am disappointed for the moment.
The whole purpose of this buy was to let my phone in my case and use it as a Walkie Talkie.
But as far as I know, the voice messages are only possible with Samsung Messages (and Telegram with the dedicated app).
The big problem with this app is I can't manage to have messages history. I only have new ones.
And another big drawback is that messages are sent via SMS/MMS not RCS, this is really stupid because I often use the WiFi Calls features (bad network in my house.
Does anyone noticed the same thing ?
And more important, is there a solution for that ?
Thanks.
