Question Show wattage on status bar - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Hello,
I'm looking for an application which is capable to show how many watts the phone is charging on the status bar but i can't seem to find any.
Any recommendations?

Having the display on while charging skews the charging rate and shouldn't be done.
Android are designed to be charged with the display off otherwise the charge rate will be drastically lowered by the power controller to protect the battery. It may not even charged at all or very slowly at best.

If the watt status was displayed on AOD? Would that affect the charging rate?
Btw i found this, https://github.com/dubrowgn/wattz but it doesn't work on Samsung phones.

That would work if available.
An easy way is to use Accubattery with that window open so you go straight to it when you turn on the display. You have a second or two before it refreshes; it will display the display off charging rate.

It's giving you the actual ma amount.
The easy way is to watch the charge %, it's pretty obvious if it's not fast charging. The most common reasons for not fast changing are battery start temp too low or high, or it goes over about 103F while charging; fast charging will disengage.

I'm using both Samsung's 45W GaN charger and Baseus GaN3 Pro fast GaN 65W charger, i don't have any doubts for fast charging but at least for me it's nice to see the wattage..
I'm also having a Baseus cable which shows the wattage, but it doesn't seem very accurate to me.

The only things I concern myself with are battery temperature and if fast charging is engaged.
You can't control the other parameters.
Fast charging ramps down significantly at 80% then disengages entirely at 90%.

I've noticed it too around 80%, about the charging thermals i'd say they are not that bad to be honest. The phone is place on wooden surface so i guess it kinda pulls away the heat.

A fan and/or a damp microfiber cloth. Can fast charge even at 100F ambient temperature.

I don't remove my case, a Zizo Bolt.. Works fine with it on.
The display dissipates most of the heat, so display up.

This isnt status bar but usb cable has a wattage readout. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09F2F91QW/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_4?smid=A1UJW8XT3XUSD0&psc=1

"3c" has some apps that will show wattage. It does have some status bar icons that you can add, but not wattage. But you can have the wattage in a widget. I bought the "all in one toolbox" years ago and currently have a widget showing %battery, %charging(or discharging)/hour & mW +/-
As others have said though, this figure will be distorted because of the screen being on!

With tasker you can do almost everything what you want...
Small development knowledge is required.
I don't need to see charging wattage, it more important for me to see amperage of charging and discharging, from voltage and amperage I can easily calculate charging and discharging wattage....

Car Charger Problem

My car charger is having problem keeping up when i'm driving.
When i drive i have enabled: bluetooth (the nexus is connected to my car), location, tomtom app, 3g and brightness at 100%.
I was using a samsung car charger at first (750mA output) and then i bought a motorola p513 (950 mA output) but none of this chargers solved my problem.
I tried different roms and kernels but the battery still drains ( i lose about 10% per hour).
I was wondering if there's any solution to this, no matter how expensive (or maybe some particular kernel/rom configuration for this situation).
The strange thing is that, if i remember correctly, my old galaxy s4 with the samsung charger didn't lose any battery at all.
Bluetooth, location, mobile data and max brightness. What did you expect?

Well considering that my old galaxy s4 didn't lose any battery in my car with that same "configuration" i thought that the nexus 5 could keep up too.
Anyway, does anyone have any advice??
Maybe some rom/kernel combination or something to buy?

Different device.
With your configuration, your device will last about 2–3 hours in that state. It takes about 1.5–2 hours to charge up a Nexus 5 from 0% with a 1.5–2A AC charger. With a 950mA car charger (which is more likely to be charging at only around 500–800mA), it'll hardly keep up.

Ok so i'm screwed basically........
Will reducing brightness to around 50-60% help??
What would you advise to do to have no battery drain??

Reducing brightness will probably help a chunk.
Also, make sure it says "charging via AC" instead of "charging via USB".

It says "charing via AC" with both my chargers.
I'll probably buy a new phone.. i was thinking about the new galaxy s6 but i need to be sure that it will keep up with the battery drain.
I almost forgot, a friend of mine is using this "configuration" with a moto e (2014) that he paid around 80 eur and it can keep up just fine in the car.
It's a shame that this 350 eur phone can't....

The Moto E is a low-end device with a lower-resolution screen and lower maximum battery capacity.
You will be hard pressed to find a device that will keep up if you're using it with Bluetooth, location, mobile data and maximum screen brightness all at the same time.
Maybe look into getting a device that uses Qualcomm's quick charge (and get a car adapter that also uses it), if your charging rate while torturing the battery is that crucial to your daily routine.

I got one last question: i just remembered that i have an amazon car charger which has 2.1A as output... will this keep up with the battery drain??

Probably not entirely, but the battery should only go down very slowly.

You already have your answer, but I will add that I use an iPad for navigation, and a good car charger can't keep up with the charge.
My vehicle has a receptacle in it, that keeps up with the rate of drain on my Nexus. It must be a limit to how much amperage the cigarette lighter can pull.

Quick update, i tried using the 2.1A charger by amazon and something strange happens.
In the morning when i start my commute of 1 hour and 30 minutes with my phone fully charged i arrive at my destination with about 90% battery.
But when i commute back with the phone's battery at around 30% i arrive back home with my battery at around 60%!!!!!! How is that possibile????
If it's charging that much on my way back shouldn't it keep the phone charged on my morning commute???
I tried the amazon phone charger for a week and it's been happening every day.
I use the same "configuration" all the time (100% screen brightnees, 3g, gps and bluetooth).

HTC ONE M9 - QC2.0 Issues

Hello,
I've just got an M9 and am happy with it. Thought I'd make the most of the quick charge tech so I brought a QC2.0 charger from amazon:
An Aukey Quick Charge 2.0 42W 3 Ports USB Desktop Charging Station [sorry, can't post links yet]
Reading the reviews, and also other threads on here, that people with M9's using QC charge very fast but mine just isn't.
Right now it's taken just oven an hour to charge to full from 49%. Nothing like what other people are saying.
I've contacted the supplier of the charger and they've just sent me another one but it's exactly the same. How should I continue testing? How would I determine if it is the Phone?
The only issue I can potentially identify is that after around 75%-80% the rate of charge seems to drastically drop off.
Any insight would be great !

regarding the drop off after 80% thats perfectly normal for QC, it will be quite rapid up until about 80+% then sort of trickle.

Did it come with a USB cable, and are you using that one? In order to take full advantage of quick charging, heavier gauge and/or short cables are best. And yes, the closer to 100%, the less difference in charging rate.

Yes it came with a cable which was high quality, which I'm also using.

Are you using the QC 2.0 port? Because that thing has only one.
I'm always using official chargers, same for my M9..works very well.

Hi, Yes using the correct Orange QC port on this charger.
Perhaps you could share what sort of charging times you're getting with your official charger?
Also worth adding there may be an 'offical' HTC charger but all that should matter is if it's Qualcomm QC2 licence device, which it is and is listed on the Qualcomm website
So I'm back to my original question, how can I tell if its the phone?
It would also be good if anyone with an M9 and QC2 could post their charging times
Thanks

Something else to try would be disabling HTC's car app as it causes issues with charging. Open the car app>go to settings>disable all settings.
Go to phone settings>apps>car>uninstall updates>disable.
I use a Choetech 60W Quick Charge 2.0 for mains, and a Choetech 51W Quick Charge 2.0 Car Charger for the car. The car one is ideal because it has a blue LED for normal power which changes to green when it's using Quick Charge, to give you an indicator it's working.
I get between 1% and 2% charge a minute depending on how hot the battery is and what is running (Viper 4.0.1 ROM - Android M). Usually around an hour and half for a full charge.
Yours doesn't seem excessively slow - make sure you try when your battery isn't hot and when no apps are running in the background. Maybe useful to run the Ampere app to see what the current battery drain is before you start... ideally should be 200ma or less.
Drop off after 80% is normal, ~1% every 2 minutes.

I had the same problem initially with my QC2.0 chargers, finally found out the cables(including the one packaged with the charger) were not up to the task........eventually started getting slow charge warnings.
I use these: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B013DOCZAC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
Haven't had a problem since
QC is only effective up to 80%, after that it will slow down so as not to cook the battery. This isn't just QC2.0, this is all forms of quick charging. Lithium based batteries must be very carefully charged as overcharging will lead to devices exploding. Just ask the hoverboard manufactures. As such the charge speed slows down after about 80% capacity. To further confuse things, a battery does not have a physical capacity like a gas tank or other physical holding device. Things like load, temperature, and age all change the available capacity. Capacity %, much like signal strength bars, is simply an estimation done with unknown calculations by the phone vendors. If you really want to know what's going on with your battery, you have to get an app like GSam Battery Monitor that will show you the current voltage of the battery and the charge/discharge rate in milliamps.
I'm using the same charger and it charges from 5% to 100 in 1hr and 20mins

Any Difference in Wireless Chargers?

I have a Samsung wireless fast charging pad I bought for my S7. Is there any difference in the charging speed between it and the latest dock style ones?
Nope

Maybe you know. I was told that using non-original wireless charging is bad because they spoil the battery. Is it so?
Generic wireless chargers do not fast charge in my experience. I have tried 3 off of Amazon so far.
I have a Seneo Fast Charger stand and its been great .
As long as the wireless dock is Fast Charge capable and your adapter is QuickCharge 2.0 compliant it should work. I have four Seneo Fast Charge docks that I use with both Samsung and RavPower QC 2.0 adapters and they work great with my S7 Edge. I will test when I get it but I'd assume the S8+ will work the same.
You know if it is working because the phone displays two messages when you dock it.
"Charging wirelessly xx%"
and then after a second or two
"Fast charging wirelessly xx%"

I believe the S8 (like the S7) can accept up to 15w wireless charging (Qi 2.0 spec) but most chargers barely output 10w. Not sure why but I would be looking for a good 15w output charger unless theres a reason not to.

I think the reference is to batteries losing capacity. The older a battery is the less capacity it holds. A battery rated at 3600mAH might only hold 2000mAH after a couple of years of use. High charging current causes a lot of heat buildup in the battery and will shorten (spoil) it's life.
Best way to tell if your battery has lost capacity is to measure charge time. Having it die quickly could mean it's just running too many apps, but charging time (with the phone off) should give an indication of battery capacity. If your battery charges twice as fast as a new one, it's lost half its capacity.

Got it. Sorry, I actually thought they meant that the battery spoils. Like the way some "normal" batteries blow up if left in devices for too long. I was seeing memories of the S7 nightmare.
AFAIK, the only listed change between the Dock style Samsung Fast charger and the Convertible Fast charger is that the new 1 can be changed from dock to pad.
I just picked up 2x Dock styles from amazon for 40 bucks a piece, way better than spending 70 for the convertible style.
Or these?

I was amazed how quickly they showed up too. Took 3 days from order to delivery. I think they purposely put almost 2 weeks delivery time just so that when you get it "early" you're amazed.

Means that the battery holds its charge less. Faster discharges, in general the life of the battery decreases
If you use Qi wireless charger, it has 1.4x faster than traditional wireless charger. Built-in 2 coils offer a wide charging area, which allows you to place your device in either portrait or landscape position. You can also continue using it to read, watch or type while the battery is being replenished.

How to measure charging rate even when the screen is off on S8 plus ?

Hi, I got the S8 plus verizon version.
I suspect I have fast charging issue. The phone doesn't seem to do fast charge all the time even when the screen is off.
I want to know if there is an app that can measure the "overall" charging rate from start to finish when the screen is off. I tried Ampere, it is good app, but it only shows the "current" rate, which very often is around 500mA to 700mA on average on Samsung original charger. Yes, it does occusionally go up to 900mA or 1020 mA. But never over, on samsung original charger. It is normal? I remember I used the Anker charger with QC, it shows it went up to 1680 mA ... However, when I do it now, it does not. It caps on 1020 mA.
Sometime even worst if I a QC car charger, at around 300mA .
When the screen is off, there is no way for me to see the charging rate. If QC is not working, is the phone has some minor defect? I should sent it for repair ?
Please let me know if I have other ways to measure it.
(Thanks in advance.)
Note:. Yes, I also experience some screen shut off or no powering on issue like some members here.

Although not an app, this works great as it shows the charging voltage as well as the current.

AccuBattery Settings > Notification Priority > Minimum. It will still show in the pull down notification list but the battery % status bar indicator will be removed.
You could probably also disable it entirely via phone settings > notifications.

Question Wireless charging heat

Hello everyone, i just bought a new wireless charger form Baseus and charge my s21+ with fast wireless charging on, and while charging i notice that the phone battery get as hot as 40 degree Celsius. SO i try turn off the fast wireless charging option and let the phone cool off to ambient temp (around 32-34 degree) and charge again, but it still reaches 40 degree.
I want to ask is this normal, and please share your temperature while using wireless charging and the brand of charger you use.

Well, phones getting hot while charging is usually normal.
Sometimes it happens when the phone charges for too long and at a higher voltage and amps.

Appreciate your opinion. But i want to ask if 40 degree while fast charging is normal or not. On cable, phone is only around 37 degree

Yeah, fast charging is faster, and wireless charging sometimes in some phones is hitter than cable. Depends on the manufacturer of the phone and the model and the wireless charger itself.

Hmm maybe it would be online, I don't have the particular phone and a thermal imager so i wouldn't know exactly.
Hi guys, hope it's ok I ask a similar question here.
I do to have S21 5G (exynos) and samsung 15w wireless charger with 25w brick.
The issues I'm having is with charging speeds. If I use fast charging, the current is around 2700mA. But as soon as the temperature hits around 35-36 degrees charging current starts oscillating between 300-600-900 mA. It takes around 5 hours to fully charge the phone. It's faster if I turn off fast charging. It takes around 3 hours.
Room temp is around 26 c.
I don't remember having similar issues with S20.

Fast charging increases the wattage of the charge so your phone overheats.
If it overheats too much the phone limites the charge rate to protect the components.
It seems like a flaw in the fast charging or smth like that
keep fast charging off if it overheats your phone, and maybe try keeping it in a cooler environment

So you think it's more or less software issue? Faulty stand charger?
Because.. S20 was charging fine..
