Yeah I do need some help. I'm not planning on changing my phone as I don't picture myself playing catch-up with the phone industry and adding even more devices to the ever-increasing garbage pile, so please don't hint that.
I own a 2017 phone. More specifically a LG K10 (2017 model) :: Youtube, whatsapp, casual gaming, Word editing, that's it. And here comes the issue. It's running Android 7, it's supposed to let me 'allocate' space from my Class-10 UHC-I 128GB Lexar microSD card, so I could have apps being updated and never worry about freeing up some space. Unfortunately that isn't the case. And now play store keeps complaining about space.
Well since I'm not "upgrading" to a new device, I've studied my options. And it comes down to just one option: changing the EMCP/eMMC chip. This is the one my phone works with: https://www.cpuprocessorchip.com/sa...10013m-b419-32-16-emcp-d3-lpddr3-1866mhz.html

I do have experience with micro-soldering (performed a few switch and switch lite jobs here and there) but I'm assuming a phone doesn't have a bios chip, meaning its bootloader must reside on the very chip I want to replace. Assuming the replacement is possible and it goes well, what else do I need to do in order to have this chip running Android on it? Would I need to flash it? If so, prior to the soldering part, what device do you recommend to flash it with?

ive seen these, they just read parameters from the computer via the obd diagnostic port, what i meant was actually removing the the obd computer and using an android device to receive the incoming sensor data and use the data such as rpm, throttle position, and so forth to advance or retard timing tables and fuel tables to actually run the engine i have tuning software for my honda that i can run and retune my engine with but only from my laptop id like to be able to do this with an android device.

That's an interesting question and not what I thought it was when I first read your initil post. Reading it literally you're asking about replacing the actual 'brain' that conductor that co-ordinates the entire ignition,fueling,emmisions and other secondary parameters that make the engine run in a harmonious symphony(oh, whatever happened to self metering by atmospheric pressure drop and contact breakers lol). I read it as taking out the OE ecu/ecm/powertrain module or whatever other term you use for it and replacing it with an android device. An interesting exercise but hardly worth the mountain range of problems involved considering you can go out and buy a custom fully programmable ECU anyway.
That is how it sounds though when you say replacing the ecu with an android device. i.e removing the ecu and putting in one running android or a piggyback ecu running amdroid....... i know, i'm being maybe a little too pedantic but it drew me in and made me read the thread and am definitely interested in finding out if there are any android apps that can reprogram or flash an ecu similar to the ones that run on windows.
I've mentioned in another thread I have a deep knowledge and experience in the car side of the equation but my knowledge of computers themselves ranks about 'interested in knowinf more but basically capable of using one n that's it' level. Or tge same as 99.99% of car drivers. They can drive but beyond that all they really know is where to out the petrol in although 100,000s of them will say they know all about cars lol.
In other words, I see know reason why technically there are no equivalent android apps/devices that can do what software packages running windows you use on a laptop. I'm in a similar but different position than you. I really want that ability to remap/flash new firmware onto ecu's except right now I don't have a laptop or desktop of any kind right now. All my online and computer needs are admirably dealt with on my Note 3 so i haven't bothered replacing either my pc or laptop when they passed on.
Was on ebay recently and seen very interesting and potentially useful software claiming to be able communicate fully with any obd1 and 2 ecus allowing you to reset, remap and 'chip' any ecus and also fully set up a new replacement custom reprogrammable ecu too although i am skeptical you could buy one that fully capable for £20 off ebay but they promise full customer support and the ability to download an entire remap for almost any make amd model so perhaps their claims are based on the abilitynof their product rather than merely sales rhetoric.
Anyway, what I mean is I see no reason why if windows can fully communicate with obd2 and android can also read current and pending dtcs, display freeze frame, live data and allow you, if you know the particular formula, to view data with custom PIDs then it seems possible that a software package written for android couldn't be capable of doing wnat these windows/mac programmes can do. I'm sure I've seen linux compatible software for desktops out there so surely an android version is poasible. BUT as i explained my knowledge of computer systems/languages is risible so there may well be a glaringly obvious reason that android is unsuitable (there's probably 1000s of 10 year olds laughing lije mad thinking is this guy stupid or what lol).
BUT if you ever come accross such an software package that runs on android let me know because if not it looks like I'm going to have to go buy this 20 odd quid ebay software AND a bloody laptop on top to bw able to use it

I've been an iPod Touch + Nokia flip-phone user for many years, and just last week I finally purchased an unlocked Motorola Moto G LTE (XT1045) to replace them both. So, since I'm new to the Android world, I have come to ask this question:
How long would you recommend I wait before rooting my device? There are some features that would REALLY like (moving entire apps to SD card (I was a bit dismayed to find that when moving all my apps to the SD card, it only saved a very, very small amount of storage space), as well as being able to prioritize memory usage for apps, Titanium backup, underclocking while phone is locked, etc.). I'm viewing this phone more like a very mobile computer than I did my iPod Touch I always carried, and as such I am expecting more of it.
The reason I ask is I am wondering how long it will take for good support to start showing up for custom ROMs and stuff. Since this is my first time rooting a device, I would like there to be a decent amount of documentation, and would also like the majority of the bugs worked out of anything involving rooting for this specific phone.
On a side note, does anyone know of a way to unlock the bootloader without going through Motorola's site? I've read that by going through there to get the unlock code, you are basically registering your phone as "not under warranty." So, if something that is clearly a manufacturing defect (like charging connector becoming loose or something like that) shows up in a month, I'd like to be able to un-root it to send it in.

I got to thinking about it, and since I am actually going to be outside of the country for the next 10 months, so my warranty is pretty much useless anyway. Shipping it back would require removing the battery, which in turn would void the warranty.
So, at this point my only question is how long would you recommend to wait to root my phone in order for there to be good documentation, and good support for custom ROMs and stuff?

So I have a tablet that was given to my daughter but was pretty useless out of the box last year. Its an ICRAIG powered by a Cortex A9 Duel Core 1.5 GHz 4G flash memory with the capacity to hold a 32G SD card to serve as an extension of that initial 4G. Now basically to a novice but trying to learn person like me the deal was kind of like: ICRAIG took some older cheaper cell phone android tech (It runs off 4.2 and upgrades only to 4.4 I believe) and shoved in into a tablet without modifying the firmware to support the new form. For instance the keyboard that's actually pretty standard in appearance is impossible to choose as an option and its default is the cellular keyboard option Android uses.
I have managed to root it using KingRoot app and Ive hooked it up to my computer to verify that Droid Drive works on it and it does, my computer recognizes the device as a CD. I am planning to flash over a different OS to take over the device and not use the Android platform at all. More specifically Kali Linux because I feel that will be a good way for me to learn coding and white hat pen testing as well along my path to a new career and because being stuck without working after it consumed my life for 18 years (Which means since I was 16, so my whole life) or the ability to drive has made me horribly bored to the point I'm trying to find, fix, refurbish, rig together anything I can without spending a fortune doing it with limited income. Broken neck, 3 places actually, is why I'm a bit stuck finding a career/hobby suitable to someone with limited movement. Not complaining or whining just telling you Androidians why I'm trying to replace your software of choice.
So is there anything I should know before attempting this backwards "burn" to reformat the tablet. Like just find an applicable ARM image on Kali.org? Should I just wipe it clean and rebuild from nothing or from the kernel at least? or wasting my time with this approach and just need to wipe it and use it as doorstop? I would keep Android and use a Linux Deploy approach but due to the keyboard not functioning and the lack of touch screen I feel the onscreen keyboard I have to use now would not be suitable to a VM style approach. Also hoping it I can just replace the OS I can then find the applicable drivers for things like the keyboard. I'm not sure if I should pull off all software except Droid Drive to the USB the device will hold and then flash or keep certain files (for instance whatever file may hold the drivers and kernel) or some of the build in apps? Etc Etc. You see where I'm going here. Replace the existing OS with Kali and any pointers with using Drive Droid or any other way you all think I could approach this better even if its flashing Damn Small Linux first and building up or just working of the Linux sites to build my own image kernel and all....I would appreciate any advice and I'm heading over to read Droid Drive info now. Ive just recently had time or interest in computing since I used my Blackberry or iPhone for any computing I needed or work computers on their own network. So until about a month ago the last system rebuild I did was on a Gateway running Windows 97 or so.

My wife's phone (i9300 galaxy S3) has gone wrong and it went off without battery.
I found a new battery, but it lasted only one day. I thus decided to take it for repair,
as I think that this is the charge connector that is broken, but actually, the tech told me that it was probably the motherboard,
as when it used a tool to plug it to the direct charge ports on the side, the phone only bootlooped.
Thing is:
My wife's phone wasn't using cloud or external SD,
it was not rooted.
I tried some android toolkits to connect it, but odin or adb don't detect it, so I have no chance to try and put some new kernel on it.
It has no recovery mode, and when in download mode (1st screen), it actually doesn't last long before it reboots anyway.
Choosing some option will also make it reboot.
So I think it is failed beyond software repair.
But if you have suggestion for this (the tech was at a small street stall and I don't expect him to be high level, no offense, but he seemed to only perform two repairs, screen and charge flex boards, so not much more able than me if he can't go beyond this), feel free?
So my second question is :
Does anyone know how to retrieve the internal storage of the phone without breaking it, and reinstall it in a working way on a new motherboard?
Or alternatively, on an emmc reader such as those used for raspberry cards and so on? (I don't want to put some link, I don't want my message to be filtered)
The photos on this chip are priceless for us, and I would even pay professional to retrieve these (I would prefer not having to, because money doesn't exactly come cheap to me, but I guess I won't be able to make it alone.
So if you know some repair service in Europe that would be able to perform such task, I would be grateful for your sharing of such knowledge.
I saw an alternative in malaysia, but it feels a little too far for being able to do something in case of problem.

I had a 128g sdcard and a 32g USB in the PX3 that did the trick. But now I have changed cars and upgraded the unit.. am looking at using a few SSD's I have kicking around.
There was old threads on guys setting up external powered USB hubs and running 1t 2.5 drives when these units first came out..
But with the advent of low powered SSD's almost a dime a dozen.. (well 250gb for under $50).. with luck there is not too many barriers to plug and play..
I say that tongue in cheek as I know about the limits of Android previously seeing anything over 32gb & 64gb..but as it has matured it has been getting better with the storage situation..
So what is max people have got going at the moment?

Split screen ROMs..
Just had a look at both devolopment ROMs and couldn't see if any had the ability.
I remember seeing a few units with this ability around the traps as I was searching for mine.. ( maybe just a sales gimick)
But the old transformers had this ability via the very talented Tim's rom work and I am surprised it hasn't become the norm in Android..
I do understand that we have 'draw over top of other apps' permission.. and that gmaps does do it's little minimizer thing..but it's kinda crude in that it is taking re-estate on top of say the music app..
A better look on these bigger screens would be GPS on one side and music on the other..
I mean they have the CPU and GPU memory to handle this..
The Android 8.0 ROMs do have split screen (even stock). With an app open, just press and hold the "recent apps" button and you can then select another app to run and they will run in split screen mode.
However, not all apps support this - and some will force-close as well. It's a nice feature to have, but it's a little limited right now.

But seriously it would be better to set this up before hitting the road. i.e GPS navigation on one side and selection of music playing on the other..and or radio stations..

I know, I know and it's been debated a tad in another thread. Thus the reason they are supposed to be locked down from driver interaction via motion sensors.
Which if a named brand, is a good idea to migrate liabilities.. you don't want to be held liable if some fool crashes and kills themselves and or others while using a entertainment system that comes stock with a car.. (nanny state type scenario).
This also brings up good steering wheel key mapping especially now that many of these units are going down the path of being knob less..and we are going for the full screen experience.

128GB sd card, formatted Fat32 (by android unit itself)
Works fine except
Oreo want to "check CF card for errors" each time it comes out of sleep, or on boot.
With and 8GB or 16GB CF card, that does not take too much time, but a 128GB CF takes about 45 seconds !!!
Maybe a USB SSD (as opposed to a USD Flash Drive stick), would not require this error Check. I suspect a USB Flash drive will.
This alone might be the justification for a USB SSD

Seems I got the slow boat from China on this supplier of SSD and M2 housings..
With luck they are here this week and can run some tests and report back.
Pretty sure these are not USB 3 connections we have but USB 2?.. need to check the specs..do know there is 3 USB inputs on the unit..

Might do better to actually measure the speed with a 3.0 USB device.
They can say anything in the spec !!!
It may be 3.0, but it also may be slow !!
Finally the bits and pieces arrived today and had a quick play with it..
So far not looking good.
Will document it a bit more and report back..
But it seems the same old story as with the PX3 machines..and the limitations of Android.
While this is being addressed in newer versions of phones and Android version upgrades.. i.e the phones with 128 and 256g ..
These units are still limited to the lower end spectrum.
But with that being said..
The 180g SSD and housing through the machine into a tantrum.. as in pulling to much power through the ports it seems. As lost GSP ability..
Yes truely.. could not get a satellite fix . Pulled the drive and it worked.. put 32gig USB in..not drama..SSD back in and same..
Dropped the 256g M2 in.. formatted as Fat32.. and it was seen via that machine..but as I was in a hurry..I didn't get time to copy anything across to it..
Had a quick play tonight and was thinking about transfer from internal memory to it..but now it's not being seen..
Will put it through the format again and see if it works..
Got to be noted I am using generic Chinese housings..and thus anything could be up with these..
As even with the formatting..there is a bit to play around with..as in..my win10 machines are not seeing them but when I plug them into the Synology they are showing up fine..
Once again.. what have others been successful with or is it just the 128g USBs sticks that are going to have to do?.
And from reading..most are only loading up 1x of the USB ports due to the problematic USB board/port burn out?..
Seems a waste to have 3x USB ports and can't use them.. have tested all 3 with the 32g USB..and they are seeing it and playing music and video off it..
Personally, I'm happy just using the SD card slots. With a custom ROM, 128GB NTFS cards work great (read and write). I recently just tried disabling the filesystem check as well and now they basically mount almost instantly. Since i never remove them, I don't see the need to check the filesystems every time the unit comes out of sleep. So far, I haven't had any issues. If I ever do run into issues, I'll re-enabled the filesystem check since it only took a few seconds with NTFS anyway - even with fully-loaded 128GB SD cards.
For me, with (2) SD cards slots and 128GB SD cards (never tried 256GB cards) - that is plenty of storage. Plus, you can always switch SD cards as well. I just don't have the need for more that 256GB of storage on my head-unit. I'm guessing that you could use 128GB or 256GB NTFS USB thumb drives as well (so 3x128GB or probably even 3x256GB). You just need to root and/or install a custom ROM. It's really easy to do - with all of the effort you are putting into trying to make things work with stock un-rooted, you can have easily installed a custom ROM and went that route. You can always go back to stock un-rooted if you want/need to.
Or - maybe you can connect a powered USB hub if USB power is the issue? Obviously, you'd need to figure out how to power it, but I'm sure it can be done...

Just haven't had the time to sit in the car for the afternoon and flash it.
The unit I have got hasn't got sdcard slots.
(Or it may have but from some reading there is a possibility that there is one hidden behind the facing they put on to suit each car... I did have a check before install on how that is put on and seems it's just a set of screws.. and I suppose I can just send an email to the team and ask..lol)
That was the setup on the PX3 unit just had a 128 sdcard and it worked fine..
Only reason I grabbed the housing for the SSD's and M2 was they where sitting doing nothing so I might as well use them for something and or give them away.
Anyway will book an afternoon in for a play as the after market reversing cam wiring harness turned up today.. with luck it's just plug and play..
Might flash a rom and upgrade the MCU..
As per banter in some of the other threads..once the setup is done and I am a happy camper with stability.. then won't be a flashaholic as don't see the need to flash for flashing sake..just want to jump in and GPS, music, Radio or watch porn with the girl in the car..

How did you manage to disable the filesystem check after sleep?
I use tweo 128gb sticks on my PX5 MTCE device and they took about 30-40s to be mounted, because they're checked for errors each time.
This is very annoying - could you tell me how you disabled it (or any workaround)?
