Question Twrp and stock recovery question - ASUS ROG Phone 5 / 5s

Ok so y'all remember when it was possible to "boot" into twrp? Ok so of course y'all know that after a certain update you no longer can boot into twrp but you can flash it through magisk and it works fine. So my question is it possible to flash stock recovery to remove twrp?

Why yes. If you use apps that needs SafetyNet to pass. If not you can stay on SuperSU

It does not work. I've tryed every version from 13 to 13.3 half way thru the flash it just jumps out of recovery and boots by its self. It doesn't bootloop or hurt anything I can tell but it just doesn't install. Ever heard of that?

3.1.0-1 actually. And if Phh/supersu is flashed you need to flash stock boot image, else it will complain about boot image.

You need to be on firmware B182+ (which you are)
You need to have twrp 3.1.0+
You need to flash stock boot image before Magisk.
You can get stock boot either from rom zip (boot.img) or stock firmware (update.app) and extract boot using Huawei Update extractor. Then flash boot image manually.

How To Root Oxygen 5.1.7

Oneplus updated the OnePlus 6's Bootloader and you may ask yourself 'Can i still root?'
The answer is yes. It is easy.
1. At first, your bootloader has to be unlocked
2. Just download the Twrp.img and the Twrp installer from twrp.me, then the latest magisk installer
3. Put the magisk.zip and twrp installer zip into the root of your device and boot into bootloader
4. Now you have to open a new shell or cmd window in your adb folder, then type "Fastboot devices" there
5. If your phone is recognized, then do this command: " fastboot boot .\twrp-3.2.1-0-enchilada.img"
6. The op6 should boot into the TWRP, there type in your pincode, pattern, or what so ever you have. If you get a message because of system modification, click 'Keep read only'
7. Go to 'Install', then flash the TWRP installer zip, then magisk right after it
8. Just reboot and enjoy
The procedure is the same as always. I can confirm it's working because i rooted a few minutes ago
Just keep in mind the kernels and custom roms haven't been updated to 5.1.7 base yet and may not work until they are.

Based on how things have been going so far, people are going to be asking. Just saying.
i understand butttttttttttttttttttttt this forum is flooded with how to flash twrp, how to root with 5.1.6, how to install 5.1.5 with twrp ect ect ect lol just trying to reduce clutter and make things a tad bit simpler. No offense guys lol
So if I already have twrp and Magisk installed is the method still the same?
Will this update lock the bootloader back?
Pretty sure I swiped to allow system modifications on my first twrp installation so will that matter?

why would you install boot.img from some site that may or may not be for our phone.
you could just reinstall stock boot or choose custom kernel from the forms here and get something that works like
cleanslate https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-cleanslate-v1-7-0-oo-t3797668
elementalx https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/kernel-elementalx-op6-1-00-t3799054
flash kernel https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/development/op6-flash-kernel-1-00-t3801652
these are some of the custom kernels for our OP 6.

if the image is the same on 5.1.7 to 5.1.9 ? That's the only thing that my novice mind can thing the problem is?
I don't really want a custom kernel..I keep things stock, just root for a few apps adaway, TI backup...... But thanks!

I don't really understand the a/b partitions? I know its for seamless updates, but don't really understand. Advice here is the best for sure.
Max Lee's method works but he had an outdated boot.img ...once I got the correct one for 5.1.9 all went well...twrp, magisk...
plus and I hate to say this..all I have now is a Macbook and he had directions for that...

This phone is really not that hard to mod, even with a MacBook. I've used Macs for years for rooting. It's just a matter of knowing how to use Terminal . . . that's it.

The reason we ask about boot.Img is b/c flashing magisk would have patched your boot.img. The only reason for flashing boot is for custom kernels.

Everyone else here know that the reason for the boot loop is b/c you flashed an older boot.img then the system was expecting. What we are trying to say is if you did not flash that boot.img in the first place, This problem never would have happened.

In case you still need it, I'm fairly certain this is the boot image for GM31CB 9.5.5. I extracted it from my own device when I was flashing the international firmware. I will be honest, it might have the Chinese TWRP patched in. I doubt it though since it I can't find any of the TWRP files in the decompiled image.

I'm not sure how you went about rooting it originally, but if you have only flashed boot.img and nothing else. Then yes that is how I would go about doing it on my phone, if I was wanting to go back to locked bootloader. I don't see any issue with doing that after you install the stock boot.img.

Yes That sucks but we all learn from are mistakes.. Fastboot Flash this stock boot.img and then either lock bootloader or if you want to have root? have magisk patch same stock boot.img and reinstall.
P.s. I also have been able to update over ota by just restoring stock boot.img in magisk.
Incase you wanted to keep rolling out with root. If you need help.i will try to make a step by step way I did it.
