Question Screen flashing in gray scales - Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G (peux)/POCO X4 Pro 5G (veux)

Poco X4 Pro 5G screen issue, I'm facing a recent issue with Poco X4 where its screen keeps "flashing" in shades of black that aren't completely black. like trying to adjust the color or something. From what I've noticed, this only happens when I set the screen to 120hz. This was probably caused due to pressure I did while leaving the phone in my pocket but that same day I updated the Android version to 12, so I wanted to know if there is a possibility that this is a software problem, someone is facing the same problem?

Yes, the same thing happens to me when the brightness is at 50-60% on a dark background it starts to flicker and it is not amoled black, it would be a software problem since many users have the same problem with the Poco X4 Pro 5G
I'll pass you the thread so you can read it:

From what I could read in this topic, the problem is that the screen does not show the true black of amoled screens, which is not my case, so much so that I tested the solution with Oreo Colorizer but it didn't work, but I've seen it in other topics some people talking about the screen flickering, including a user saying that turning off 120hz solved the problem. I hope that both issues are software related and that Xiaomi fixes this as soon as possible. Anyway thanks for the reply bro

This issue was introduced during the android 12 update. Previously I had no issues with flickering...

Well, I noticed the problem the very day my phone was updated to Android 12, so it's really a software problem. I don't know how long it will take for Xiaomi to resolve this but I hope it will be soon

Oneplus 7 pro oxygen OS 11.GM21AA Screen lock bug

Hi everyone,
I just updated my OP 7 pro yesterday to android 11 with oxygen OS 11.GM21AA and have noticed this bug;
If you set the screen resolution to FHD with refresh rate of 90Hz and then lock the display, the screen goes black and unlocking the phone again can only be done blindly as the lockscreen does not show. If you do manage to get past the lockscreen you'll find that the display scaling has now shifted to much smaller icons.
Restarting the phone fixed this issue until you lock the display again.
This bug does NOT occur when resolution is set to QHD even when autoswitch is enabled.
I usually have the phone in FHD because it lasts me longer at work that way but am now unable to since this update..
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Thanks!

Been that way since beta 2.
I don't see 1+ fixing their "stable" Android 11 as they want you to upgrade to OnePlus 9 pro.
That is why Android 11 on 1+7pro is so buggy. Beta 4 was more stable and didn't have this bug (tho beta 2 and 3 had it).
either deal with it or downgrade back to 10 and upgrade to beta 4.
or better yet upgrade to a different phone like the 1+9 pro (tho being around the same price as the S21 Ultra I moved to the S21 Ultra)

Not quite - it's likely Beta 4 hasn't been incorporated into Stable 11. Be patient, we'll get there!

About Xiaomi 11T Pro

Does anyone know how the heck could the speaker of phonecalls be less powerful? Cause privacy seems unposible when we speak on a call...the speaker is too loud even in the lowest volume..may xiaomi find a way to fix this ?
Hello to everyone,
since day 2 after buying the Xiaomi 11t pro, i see no notification effect (Rhythm, Pulse, Starlight) when the screen is locked. For some hours after activating the device for the very first time, it worked and then nothing. I have tried everything in settings, i have changed several Themes (default and by third developers) and still no effect on screen.
Any idea?
Thank you in advance!

Question How to fix pwm on this device?

It has pwm even on full brightness. I tried the pwmfree app https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/app-amoled-pwmfree.3898070/ but it still hasn't fixed the problem.
Doesn't it bother you? My eyes hurt while looking at the screen.
I've read a bit about it on the link you've provided. How did you know if our phones have it? I am quite interested in this!
You use the camera from another smartphone or another device to look at the screen of the a52. And you change the shutter speed or exposure in the camera until you will see the bars pulsating on the screen of the a52.
Oh well then it seems like most of my phones since 2015 or so have had that, and I've never really suffered from headaches from it, not that I've noticed.
You can't notice it consciously, but some people, including me, are affected by it. The thing is this could easily fixed by samsung, but they wont do it. Other companies have removed the pwm effects on their amoled screens.

Damn that sucks, especially when you know its an easy fix from the OEM to implement.
One thing though, from what I've read off the PWM Free apk page, it uses a transparent black overlay and increases its opacity as you decrease brightness. If that's the case then you could use Twilight to acheive the same goal, right? Just max out the brightness and turn off auto brightness, then use Twilight as your brightness adjuster, turning the bluelight option down. Could that work?
The weird thing about the a52 is that it has pwm even on max brightness, so probably twilight wont work as well. I will try it later though. Same problem on the premium samsung range: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5...been-addressed-on-the-s21-series/td-p/2641628

Yeah, it still flickers even at full brightness. Maybe setting it at 60hz could fix that? I'll try it later to see if that could work. My previous phone doesn't have that issue at full brightness, so I'll gauge the difference based on the difference between the two.
I use mine only on 60hz and it still flickers.
Yeah, I've tested it and there is a difference between 60hz and 90hz, but the flicker is still present.
Edit: I also re did the test on my old device, a J7 Pro, and it stops to flicker altogether at peak brightness. So yeah, this phone has very prominent PWM.

Yeah, that's why samsung should do something about it. Because we still have flickering at max brightness, we can't use other software to correct the issue.

I suspect you didn't actually have the brightness set to maximum. This cannot be set manually, but is only set when the ambient brightness sensor (front camera) is illuminated by a very bright light - the sun, or a very bright flashlight. The brightness of the display is then visibly increased above the normal maximum.
Well, if the max brightness can't be controlled then it's not relevant. In this review https://www.notebookcheck.net/Samsu...ntly-more-affordable-without-5G.539956.0.html they tested the pwm on the display with an osciloscope and it shows that when you manually set the display at 100% brightness it still has pwm. This is one of the worst pwm out there, and a shame for samsung to do something like this.
is a shame unless samsung make a change in the firmaware the a52 is a pain in the eyes i need to sell mine now i cant play any video game unless i want a eyestrain
Pwm sensitive here.
Samsung A71 was OK pwm 240 hz.
Samsung 21fe was OK pwm 240 hz.
Samsung s6 edge was OK pwm 240hz
Mi 11 ultra not OK pwm 480hz. Not OK even with anti-flickering or pwm_free / oledsaver app. Mi 11 ultra has Samsung display E4.
I really don't understand. Maybe is the highs and Bottoms in the amplitudes.
Works well on my galaxy s8

Hi. I realised the negative effects last year after a year of using amoled display on redmi note 10. It gave me headaches and also my eye power changed from 0.5 to 1.5 for both the eyes in just less than a year. I do 3 hours of use a day. That's how I learnt about PWM and the headache it gives to people.
edit - REDMI NOTE 10 died a week ago and I am searching for a phone which doesn't have PWM issue in it. For past 7 days I am using LCD screen and my eyes feels a lot better.

Question S22 Ultra bugs (mobile data/display/other)

Just got my phantom black, 12/256 exynos version delivered today, been using it since this morning and I noticed that on mobile data I have little to no connection even though the 5g icon is stable in the Taskbar, as soon as I connect to wifi everything runs normally. I also had the purple glitch when touching the fingerprint sensor but solved it by disabling the dinamic animated lock screen wallpaper and putting in a normal, static one.
Another issue is that the phone locks itself (goes to lock screen) while browsing the apps (just like double tapping on home screen) but not while using any app.
I hope this is just firmware issue since they are shipping all the phones with the same firmware region based but maybe they still need feedback from some carriers (hence the mobile data issue) and also the display glitches I believe are nothing that a firmware update wouldn't fix.
P. S. : in these first few hours I didn't get at 1 hz refresh rate

With my xiaomi 12 pro if the screen brightness is dim it doesn't go to its lowest refresh rate. Increase the screen brightness and see if it goes to 1 hertz
I am having exactly all the same problems as OP with my 12/512 Exynos version. Now wondering if it is hardware or software issue with the screen glitching when using the fingerprint sensor. The glitch only occurs when using 3088x1440 wqhd+ resolution and dynamic animated lock screen. Position of the screen interference is always the same but can differ in size.

Could this also be a YouTube thing also? Like how Netflix has to certify certain devices in order to use HDR content. Maybe these new 2.0 panels need to have apps updated to work with them.

They forgot to mention one thing. The adaptive refresh rate only works, if your brightness is above 8% or ambient light sensor reads more than 40 lux.
So if you are some like me, with low brightness and low ambient light, get ready for your battery to dissappear as it will be stuck at 120Hz...
on some forums it is mentioned that on Vivis setting for display, the problem does not occur anymore; can you confirm?
anyway, the fact that these artefacts are not displayed when in FHD setting, shows that it is not a display problem, but a software or GPU
I've posted this in a separate thread. I don't think my issue is linked to the screen issues described here. I have a flashing green pixel. Seems like hardware. See the pics.
I have a mountain of problems too, with S22 Ultra black 12/256.
I've got:
Overheating and rebooting in my pocket when doing nothing
Random hanging whilst scrolling down a long list
Intermittent flashing green dots (I think four) across the screen
Horrendous battery life (had it for only 48 hours, but still)
S-Pen sometimes doesn't fire the Air Actions menu when removed (or basically just doesn't notice it's been removed?)
And not really a problem, but after 4 generations it still can't record HDR and 60 frames per second, when in 4k.
This is a huge disappointment, and the fastest tech return ever from me.

Question POCO X4 Pro 5G AMOLED screen shows some bright spots on dark/black images.

Hello everyone! I just got my POCO X4 Pro 5G phone yesterday. I absolutely love using it to bits.
However, I noticed that while browsing through content on medium (40 - 50%) brightness, the phone does not actually go fully dark. Some parts are lit up while others are not. (On dark videos and imagery, it is noticeable enough to really bother me even on just my first day of use.)
To elaborate on my point, I have downloaded a completely black picture and displayed it on my phone.
I have attached the photos below.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

Setup. (This is the phone displaying a completely black image on my gallery)
Lights off (Captured on my Samsung A50 normal mode)
Lights off (Captured on Night Mode)
I have tried to capture it on video, but it is simply not visible enough on video to be worth your time. You'll simply have to trust that I indeed downloaded a completely black image and displayed it on my gallery. (I wouldn't be posting here for no reason if I was lying, wouldn't I?)
Anyway, it is worth noting that on both higher (60-70%) and lowest (0-10%) brightness, the issue disappears completely (e.g. the screen completely shuts off as expected.) but then some of it return on maximum brightness.
Now I can definitely use the screen all the time on these settings, but I also want to ensure the longevity of my AMOLED screen, and it would suck to always be watching content on effectively only two brightness settings.
I have tried using AMOLED Fixer apps on Google Play but to no avail.
Does anyone else have this issue? Do you think it is fixable through software? Should I return the phone to POCO before it's too late?
Thank you for any responses in advance.
I am not able to reproduce this on my device. I've tried all brightness levels, no weird spots on my end. Maybe you should RMA your device. But let's wait and see if anyone else is having this issue.

Thanks for your input. I did find someone on reddit having a similar problem to mine, on his mi 11 lite. Unfortunately, the solution offered on his replies does not exist on my phone's settings (I can't find P3 anywhere).

This makes me feel like it could be a software issue, and I'm really liking everything else about the phone so far so I'm still thinking twice about going through the return process. But I still have some time to think about it for now. Please let me know if you find a similar problem with a potential solution!
Interesting... I'll be sure to check my phone once it arrives, cheers

Some updates, I guess.
I sent the phone to a local authorized Xiaomi Service Center in my area. While the technician did indeed see and acknowledge my phone's problem (e.g. he did see the screen light up on a dark image), he says it is a probably normal operation for my phone. (Which I personally don't agree with, because again, AMOLED screens must be completely dark.)
They simply updated my phone's software and did not replace the screen, and did remind me that if it did go worse, I still have a 1-year warranty for the phone if it breaks. I really needed to use the phone to travel so I didn't bother bugging them more about it.
HOWEVER, while testing things on my own I did notice some possibly noteworthy observations:
- on the almost near to darkest settings, some colors of black become dark-purple/reddish (particularly when I use Spotify).
- when restarting the phone, I noticed my lock screen actually becomes more color accurate (in my opinion) for 1 or 2 seconds, then it suddenly goes back looking kinda washed-out.
From this, I hypothesize that maybe MIUI uses some kind of special AMOLED drivers when booted which causes the screen to produce the unwanted backlight. So I tested by changing my lock screen and wallpaper to a completely black image, then restarting my phone. What I found out was that indeed, the screen issue COMPLETELY DISAPPEARS on the first 1-2 seconds of booting, and then it comes back again after that and stays until I reboot the phone again. Also, I found that on the boot screen itself, the screen issue doesn't exist at all. The POCO and MIUI logo appeared with absolutely no screen backlight.
This leads me to believe that maybe this really is just a software issue, and I am hoping that if there would be a custom rom (because I doubt MIUI would fix this soon) for this phone, it would completely eliminate this issue once and for all.
I got that too man and i am so confused ...even on full black wallpaper or reddit or really dark grey i can see a white tint or spots i cant describe it actually ..
I dunno what is this actually but i got this on three devices ..
I have asked everyone on Telegram group the denied it and say they didn't have such an issue ..even i told them that i have this on three devices ..
I general screen is stunning colors are so great but in dark grey and full black screen or any black screen it sucks ..
Can you feedback please if you had a solution or know what is going on and what is this issue ??

Which 3 devices? Are they all POCO X4 Pro 5G as well or are they other Xiaomi products? Also when did you order your X4 Pro and which color is it?
Unfortunately, I also still have not found any solutions for the problem as well. I am planning to return this soon (to Lazada) if there's no update that would fix it (I doubt there would be). For now I am simply trying to find similarities so we could potentially point out the issue.

Yes all of them are Poco x4 pro and i got them in Lebanon from a retailer he told me that this issue is not under warranty ...
I will unlock bootloader and try custom roms and eu rom to see if this could help by any chance ...
Maybe they are using a very cheap amoled display or it is really a huge software issue ..
Is your phone a global one btw ??
Did you try a custom rom or eu rom ??
I am afraid that this issue will get bigger and the screen is going to break or something ..
Btw why there is no gamut wide p3 option in the settings ??
Btw have you contacted Xiaomi ? I tried to reach the feedback team but they didnt even respond at all ....

Go to settings to system apps updater..it doesnt have any white spots or any issue ! The black there is a pure black ! Please try and feedback bro ...
EDIT : the only possible solution to this in my humble opinion is that they must increase grey level in dark mode and let us enable P3 option in settings,i guess the pictures causing this issue is not 100% black so that's why it is happening.
A.w they should allow us to enable or disable p3 option since the device SUPPOSED TO SUPPORT IT.

Yes, my phone is global one. I have not tried to custom rom it yet.
I am also wondering the same thing, why there is not P3 option in settings.

I have, and just like you, they were not very helpful. They only mentioned I should send it to an authorized service repair center, which I did, and same with you, they did not exactly acknowledge this as part of warranty and only did software updates for it.

I tried going to the same menu and unfortunately mine still has white spots in that area. (Maybe your brightness settings changed? Because the issue only really appears on certain brightness levels)

I guess we should wait or use a custom rom which supports p3 option ,try this bro :
First raise brightness to exactly around 40% then totally switch off the phone ,then try and check that menu i told you to check before ..
Btw my device had like a free from white spots hour when i did that !
But after watching a video for about 15 minutes the issue does come back unfortunately ..
To be honest this issue is not ruining anything for me ,i mean the colors are really good and vibrant and i am enjoying every video i am watching at my phone,i just dont want this to become bigger or damage the screen for real lol.

Bro do you have this white spots in netflex on main logo ??
Feeding back again ...my three devices are not usable at all using 120hz ...the issue is getting a lot worse on 120 refresh rate and the screen will flicker after 2 or 3 hours ..
This is so stupid i will never ever buy a xiaomi phone again.

Yes, white spots exist at all times as long as the phone is turned on. I notice it even for my always-on display.

Yes, the flickering indeed worsens at 120 Hz.
Just like you, I have also decided not to buy Xiaomi products ever again. Quality control is abysmal. My brother owned a Redmi Note 10 Pro and his SIM slot stopped working after just 2-3 months. Because of these scenarios (including yours which you had 3 phones with the same exact screen problem, along with a fishy warranty), I have no doubt that the problem is with Xiaomi's quality control in and of itself. I guess they had to cut corners somewhere. Maybe others got a good deal out of Xiaomi, but with the risk of having a problematic device, is it really worth spending for a company that obviously does not value quality? Anyways, I will definitely be attempting to return this to Lazada. I hope they will accept and refund it.
I also have the same problem. Since i have used Mi A3 for a very long time so, I can tell how amoled screen looks like. But in my Poco X4 Pro 5G i am facing the same issue as you are facing.

Setup. (This is the phone displaying a completely black image on my gallery)

I don't want to disclose my number. However, I guess I could give you an update. I filed for a return to Lazada (an online store) and I am still waiting for their refund. I hope they manage to replicate the issue under a very dark environment so I could receive my refund. Anyway, so the phone is not with me right now. I'm sorry, I cannot do much to help you.
