Question I don't see a watch 5 sub forum - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Looking for info on the watch 5 and did not see a sub forum for it anywhere?

Request it be opened. There's a thread on the forum for new device requests

Observational post of the week

I join the request!

I don't own a smart watch and I have been looking at the Watch 5 Pro and wanted to know more about it, the good, bad and ugly.
I really wish the watchs had CGM capabilities for Diabetes, but I am sure they are working on it. How accurate are the sensors in the Watch 5 Pro?

And what purpose does LTE have on a watch, If I am using it with a Note 20 Ultra do I really need the extra cost of the LTE model?

The purpose is to be able to send and receive messages, stream music, etc., and are in places where a phone is too cumbersome or not able to be used. Places like gyms or certain office settings.
There are also the "look what I can do" geeks.

Nope.

I stopped by the local big box electronics store and looked at the Watch 5 Pro..... I don;t know what people are complaining about as far as the weight goes, it would take 5 of them to weight as much as any of my Invicta Russian Diver watches......lol
And 45mm bezel is too big? then you would hate a full size diver watch. I would like to see a 52mm Watch 5 Pro and for them use the extra space for a bigger display and more sensors like a CGM.

After looking at it and then at the price they want, I am going to hold off, I really want a CGM on a watch, its probably going to be 2-4 more generations before they can do that and I am sure all the sensors and battery life will keep getting better too.

agree with the hefty price tag. I only got it because they gave me $180 for my GW4 and a $50 Samsung credit.

I just gave in and got it. After debloating and playing with it (heavy use) and setting it up and using it half a day I'm currently sitting at 26% when I opened the box today and turned it on it was at 52%

My thoughts, pros and cons

I'm really loving this phone. just picked it up a few hours ago and I am noticing some lag. Nothing crazy, just here and there. Maybe it's because I'm restoring my sms messages now.. It's not constant but once in awhile opening an app and clicking search will freeze it... stuff like that
My important test that lots of Samsung phones failed is downloading torrents and trying to do anything else at the same time. My note 4 couldnt play a podcast without stopping every so often when downloading torrents. Note 5 did it like a champ. No issues on the v10 so far.
I thought my phone was gliching when it said my card was 64gb and the internal was 64gb.. I thought i read somewhere that it was 16.. SO samsung stops sd card support and charges another 100 bucks for 64. and LG keeps it and gives me 64 for cheaper than sammy's 32.. awesome.
Really not impressed with the battery so far. Hopefully i can get the spare soon and it wont be such an issue but My note 5 (same size battery) had pretty impressive battery life compared to this.. it's just dropping and dropping.. Max brighness here is less than note 5's and it seems to use more power.. I have an external fast charger coming today so i'll be good anyway but i'm just not impressed at all.
I'm loving the camera... speed, quality, manual controls.. solid stuff. As a vidographer it's blowing my mind. Will this mean I can video live music without the mics crapping out? let's see.
I'm loving the build quality. Rubber is effing perfect! Screw glass and aluminum! It's amazing how it actually sticks to my couch cushion, bed, car seat when i put it down. dont love the slight extra weight and the stainless steel kind of makes it wider than it has to be but after seeing that drop test from android authority where it basically doesnt break from ANY normal drop, I'm ok with that.
Whatsapp is still putting it's heads up notification on the main screen instead of the second screen.... A big pull for me was notifications on the second screen and I use whatsapp a lot... this is kind of a let down though I can't blame LG for this.. Maybe if the phone gains traction whatsapp will update? is there a way to do it that i dont know about? Right now i installed an app to turn off the heads up notification and instead put it in the status bar but theres no way to get it to the second screen...
Maybe it's just me but for some reason apps have trouble once in a while getting a data connection on wifi or 4g.. Just for a few seconds a couple times.. but it is happening.
Hey mate, enjoy your phone
I hope the performance issue will be fixed after the initial day.
But the Whatsapp notification behavior is kinda weird indeed. I would assume otherwise because for example Google+ and Instagram notifications were popping up on the secondary screen on the youtube videos.
Im suprised by the V10s performace its opening and loading alot of apps faster then my Note 5 did and no lag on my end at all so far. Battery life is sub par i agree on that end, but overall i really like the phone so far.
I've only had it for a few hours and have been setting it up. Still haven't swapped Sim cards yet. Someone in another thread confirmed that the smart stay screen on feature was back on the V10 but I sure can't find the setting. Gorgeous phone and screen.

Thanks for the review. I really wanna get my paws on this phone but I'm out of the country and I won't be back in time for the promo
Lordy, your all beginning to get the phone! Arrrgh! More info please. How bad is the battery?
How much larger is the phone to the Note 5?
Is it a lot thicker? A lot wider? How smooth are the Screen inputs?
How long does it take to charge?
Everything.

Those questions are probably best answered by you going to check the phone out in store for yourself. No one can really give you the same experience and answer that you'd get on your own
These guys have had the phone less than a day, any opinion on the battery would not be fair.
I'm really hoping for something decent with the battery. I *NEED* juice! Hoping the LG promotional stuff will come quickly (assuming I buy the phone tomorrow AM)
Coming from a Note 2 with a 9300 ZeroLemon battery I have no idea how to deal with battery issues. I hear the battery low sound maybe once a month? It's a totally different experience with an extended battery. I'm hoping I can deal with swapping them out until hopefully *praying* ZeroLemon makes a battery for the V10.
I'm interested in any battery experiences....

And anyone already having the phone, how would you comment on "alt-tab" performance of it?
Is it still as great as G4 i.e. much better than Samsungs?
What I mean is, opening few apps (browser, game, mail etc) and then alt-tabbing/rotating back 5-6 apps one-by-one; will they just pop-up immediately and exactly where you left of rather then refreshing/restarting the app? That was a great performance feature of G4 against much "stronger" S6 and even Note5.

No chance of that. I'll have to get this online. Ta.
The v10 is a little bit taller. Note 5 battery will be better because Amoled is more efficient than IPS.
Currently have a G4 which has a 3000mAh battery with a 5.5 inch screen. V10 has a 3000mAh battery with a 5.7 inch screen. I'm guessing battery life be worse on the V10. Might just go with a Nexus 6P which has a 3450mAh battery with a 5.7 inch screen.

Should i buy a similar Samsung S8

Hey everyone!
I am currently using Xiaomi mi4, but i found that it runs slower and slower, i asked some people on forums, they also have the same problem, so i am considering purchasing a new mobile phone that can accompany me for at least 2 years.
Last weekend, i went to Samsung Shop, the Samsung S8 attracts me in a sudden, yet when i close to see its price, oh god, it is near to sky, i know i have to give up the idea of buying it, then i walked out with sad
on the way of backing home, i search S8 pictures from google, i amazingly found another similar Samsung S8 mobile phone, the brand name seems like MEIIGOO S8, it doesn't matter, the important thing is its price is just near €180, how it could be so cheap. it is even with 4G RAM 64G ROM, MTK6750T, 1.5GHz, Octa Core6.1 Pollici Dual Camera , Android 7.1 system.
I already considered two days to buy it, i want to ask you guys is it worth of buying it?
Thanks guys!

Most people here wouldn't know of this phone, i ordered it and received it yesterday.
I am testing it out now, so far i can say the screen is beautiful and huge, yet because of the 18:9 and very thin bezels it is pretty small and is a pleasure to hold in the hand. i'll be testing more and if you are still interested let me know here and i'll post my findings.

So the phone is snappy screen is great, viewing angles are very good as well. More info. to come.
Ok so the phone is unfortunately not good at all! Apps randomly close, Bluetooth connection works with my car, and then i go out and back in and the phone keeps on saying connecting, yet it never does. The only way to make it work is restart the phone. WiFi says it's connected and it actually works...till it doesn't! I look and see for example that my Whatsapp messages haven't been sent, so i take off the WiFi and as soon as the phone gets the cellular data i get notifications galore. The phone's battery is very bad, 5-7 hours on time with 1.5-2 hrs. SOT. My banking app which can be unlocked with a Fingerprint scanner says my device isn't compatible with the feature. Speaking of the fingerprint scanner it is slow! And i'd say works approx. 60% of the time at best. I bought a blue one and the paint they use is a joke, as the phone's paint came off on the side and i only used this phone for 3 days!!! No falls or drops.
On the good side the 6.1" Sharp 2160*1080 screen is vibrant huge and gorgeous, the phone is pretty snappy for everyday use, the design is beautiful and it does have very narrow bezels all over, another nice touch is the rounded corners on top and bottom of screen. I am very saddened by the fact this phone turned out to be unuseful, as i had high hopes as their only previous model the M1 got some great reviews.

That is the standard story for knock off devices. Remember that with cell phones like anything else, you get what you pay for. A good cellphone isn't cheap and a cheap cell phone isn't good.

Feedback?
The reviews from people who have purchased it are mixed. Everyone to seems to love the watch, fit and finish. Lots of people complaining it doesn't have MST and reducing stars on it for that reason in reviews. I mean, you must know that it doesn't have MST before you buy it, right? It was known well before release. Apparently, Best Buy lied and UPS turned it over to USPS so I will be getting it tomorrow. Luckily, I don't care about MST, I don't plan to pay from my watch, I still find it more convenient to pop my debit card into the chip reader lol. I've been behind people waving phones and apple watches over the terminals and taking way too much time. I'd rather not inconvenience those behind me for no reason.

I love it overall. I am replacing my Gear S2 with it. Already lasts longer than that is all I could hope for.
I'm surprised I can't find a Galaxy Watch forum either. I absolutely love the watch though.
I came from using a Fitbit Ionic and while that was decent, this is just miles ahead. The biggest thing for me, as dumb as it is, I love the fact that it looks like a real watch and not a funky square. I got a stainless steel band on Amazon for around 15 bucks and it makes it look even better.

I have the Gear Fit2 Pro. I can't wait for my watch to arrive tomorrow. I know it will be a huge upgrade.
i had the frontier s3 lte and the galaxy watch now. both 46 mm.
out of the gate the new watch has a much longer battery life. the longest i had it off charge was 2 days of use. this is with all radios on, max screen brightness (10) and not disabling anything. when i put it on charge at the end of day 2 it still had 40% left. the s3 would have died a day ago.
the build quality is upped over the s3 and it looks damn good. bezel rotation seems improved over the s3.
i knew about mst well before i purchased the watch. its a bummer since i was used to it on the s3, but its not a big enough CON to keep me from purchasing it. more and more sites I go to use the newer tech anyway so its not been an issue.
Bwahahaha. Smart watches. Carry on.

I have the LTE 46mm version. Although it is supposed to work stand alone it requires a paired digits plan @10 bucks/mo and can only have the LTE service activated if you have a samsung S7 or better. Spent over 4 hours with store employees and T-Mobile tech support before they figured it out. IPhone LTE support will be added sometime in the future. Unfortunately I have a Note Edge (essentially a note 4) so I'm screwed as far as getting LTE activated. T-Mobile is a pain. If it can work stand alone it should be able to be activated. Other than the LTE issue I do like it.
i have the 46mm lte galaxy watch. i dont need the main phone to be with it.
the watch has its own REAL phone number. ive called people and have had people call me directly on the watch.
i had this same setup with the s3 frontier.

Couldn't they just use a demo to get you started? Like just pop your sim in a S8 set it up and switch back to a note 4 and be out the door?
80 hours in on my first charge and 52% battery left. This thing is nuts. I have wake up gestures on, NFC/Bluetooth on and brightness at 8. Its crazy good.

You would think so but apparently their demos are just that, demos. Also my sim is too large to fit so they would have to change sims. Still, you would think it would be easy enough.

Who's Getting a Galaxy S10E, S10, S10+ ???

I personally am, only because I'm on T-Mobile JOD to then be able to "Jump" to the Note 10 in August. The S-Pen is very nice, but I can do w/o it for 6 months. I know not everyone has that option depending on the carrier. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts.
Nope, I love my SPen too much, will wait for N10, also, not convinced about the bezelless screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note Smartphone's fall under the Business/Creativity category, it would be dumb to have a cut out in the display as that kills the S-Pen.. Well that’s how I’m looking at it!
I won't. I like my note a lot. But I may get it for the wife as she is currently on the S9. Not sure what model she will want.
Something about the note 9 feels premium to me vs the S models. I've had all previous S models and you just can't compare the feel of the note with the S models imho.
I got the E 8/256 model. Traded in my 3 XL for it. I never cared for the 3 XL anyways. I think it cost me $250.
No since the Note 9 is my first Note i do not see my self going back to the Galaxy S line.
I am perfectly happy with my Note 8 N950N. I probably won't upgrade to a new model until my device starts to fail.

Personally I think the holepunch on the display is not the best idea for a all display all the time immersive experience. I think that Samsung should have continued to use the old design with thin bezels. As that looks much better than having a hole in my display. But who knows maybe when I go to see the promotional event of the SGS10 series, I will change my mind. Afterall I didn't like the idea of not having physical buttons on my devices. Then I got the Note 8 and I have took to it like a fish in water...
I can't jusifty the added cost from my Note 9. First time in a while I'm not in a rush to upgrade.

Yep i kind of agree with you untill seeing the S10+ in flesh cant really say! You seen the new Sony Xperia a1 4K OLED 21.9 ? it looks mental no hole punch i'm really tempted taking the Sony route! But Samsung are awesome as well owning so many samsung gear it kind of hard to let go!

To be honest any who has either a Note 9, one of the SGS9 or even a Note 8 or one of the SGS8 series devices. There really is no point in upgrading to the SGS10 series. Sure there is a bump up in the specs and you get a newer display. But at the end of the day if your current device is still working perfectly fine, what is the point. Save you cash until your device becomes obsolete then upgrade to the latest model.

I'm excited for this, mainly because of WearOS integration.
Finally, we have the promise of SpO2 tracking while you sleep (every 1 second, or every 60 second). But it remains to be seen as SpO2 was basically junk on the GW3.
New sensor for heart rate and SpO2 sounds promising. But I will wait for reviews to validate the promised features actually work.
hope it works on non-samsung smartphones. I mean ECG, BAI, etc. What has to be done as in the two previous models, to modify them
Were there any rumors about titanium version? Previous model had one and I was hoping this one will have it as well.

apparently it doesn't. So I'm interested in any update on how to make it work

Wait, what?! Were there any tests that confirmed that? Because that would be huge downside...

I think it's pretty much 100%. You'll need the samsung health monitor app, which is not available for non-samsung devices.
It was like that on previous galaxy watches, so it's really not that surprising, although regrettable.
SHM is available on this forum as an apk to download for other phones tho, although I didn't test it myself and I'm not sure that's all you need. That's why I'm looking for other opinions.
I think there'll be a way to make it work, but it might not be super practical.
it is an inconvenience yes, but they have always managed to jump. Here in the forum will come out how to skip it
I have Samsung Health app paired with Gear S3 on my OnePlus 6T. It's not the same?
I preordered a Watch 4 44mm, I hope I can use it in every aspect thanks to the community.

No, samsung health and samsung health monitor are two different apps. Yeah, it's confusing.
I got to at with both models yesterday. The classic hardware feels almost the same as the galaxy watch 3. Same size, slightly different buttons. Software feels similar too, although it's smoother.

I have Gear S3 Frontier, which I'm using mostly as a notification extender (aside from having clock of course ) and all the other things are mostly gadgets (like health monitor). How do you feel would be to get W4 instead. I've seen differences in physical aspect and I wonder will I even notice the change...
if the BP is accurate enough it would be really useful for many people, it could be a big reason to buy it. The BMI stats too are very nice to have.
BTW, the way this is advertised, I think a lot of people will buy it and be disappointed with their non-samsung phones.
Is there a link to an apk to download or easy way to load the health monitor app on a non samsung phone? i'm aware it will be an issue, i pre-ordered the watch anyway with hopes there may be a way coming or will a new apk come out after the watch releases since it has a new os?

Maybe yes.
Don't know if it's an easy way for you.
BPM still isn't approved in the US. Makes me wonder about the actual accuracy. I never really tested, but I had an above average reading the day I calibrated and the watch seemed to be very consistent around that reading for the entire month. So I think it's kind of a gimmick, but could be different with the new sensors.
And, yes, you'll be able to use with other phones, eventually, with the great work of other developers here. It may not be easy for your average user. But I expect Samsung to try to lock people into their ecosystem and buy their phones. They only came back to WearOS because they couldn't get developers on their platform.
Don't expect the bioimpedance measures to be worth a damn. Bodyweight scales aren't very accurate, and you have two large points of contact probably with a higher current....It would be shocking if the watch was nearly as good as the scales (which, again, aren't considered very accurate).
I had the Active 2 and got BP/ECG working on it in Canada even though it's not approved here (and doesn't look like it ever will). The BP seemed to work pretty well when I compared with my Omron, you have to calibrate it once a month anyway.
Anyway my Active 2 died so I have the Watch 4 on pre-order. Big for me will be the ability to use Google Assistant and Google Pay. The advanced sleep tracking should also be interesting, I have mild sleep apnea so it'll be a good test. I also fully expect that there will be a way to enable BP/ECG, after the devs have a chance to figure out the new Wear OS platform.
Might be time to upgrade to the 4 and sell my Active 2....
Sammie is offering a credit to trade-in your own watch. GW3 credit is $185!
That seems like a pretty good deal, although mine is LTE version in mint condition. Decisions decisions decisions
