Building custom Kernel for Nethunter - Samsung Galaxy A51 Questions & Answers

Hi XDA,
Finally found and rooted a cellphone because I've been wanting to use Kali on a mobile. After a few hours, I realized I needed a seemingly non-existant custom kernel as well since almost all the tools don't work.
I'm new to rooting so sorry if my questions seems stupid. Can I use any kernel source code on my firmware? Basically, can't find a Nethunter custom Kernel for my phone and I'm wondering if it's worth learning how to and if it's even possible. Any input or pointing to a guide would be appreciated. I'm really not sure where to start..
One UI 3.1
Android 11
Baseband A515FXXU5EUL3
Kernel 4.14.113
Thanks in advance,
Chaeers!

Alright,
So basically started to learn and build my own kernel, but I'm really not sure if I'm doing the right thing or overlooking a much easier solution.
Any input on what to do to make Nethunter's HID and Wireless tools work would be very much appreciated.
This is giving a huge headache but at least I'm learning!

[REQUEST] Any kernel builders want to build a kernel for 2.3.4?

I've never compiled a kernel and was hoping one of you experienced kernel compilers would build a kernel for LG's "stock" 2.3.4 with overclocking ability. Also, I understand in the kernel there is a way to fix the FFC inversion issue (other devices have had same problem and people fixed with a kernel updae); but I have no idea how to do it. If you just want to steer me in the right direction I could attempt to build the kernel myself also. I have JDK and Eclipse installed on my computer.
hey man i just wanted to share this with you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227241
im pretty sure you can find a way to get a kernel this way and compile it.
i just downloaded a bunch of neat stuff from nvidia (android dev kit) and the sdk from google to adb and crap.
i didnt think it would have to come to this because this because of the phones unlocked bootloaders and such, but it doesnt look like the devs are really into this phone because of nvidia's lack of action. Im just gonna have to learn how to tweak this thing on my own.
hope this helps

[Q] Having trouble compiling a kernel.

Hello everybody
Recently, I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233282. After a while testing it with the new method, I found out I had some bugs. I then wanted to test the old method, aka compiling the kernel + module from the debian image. The problem is, even with http://oldwiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/Building_Kernel_from_source I don't understand what to do. Do I have to type every single line, replacing the source with the debian image, with botbrew, or am I missing something (I surely am).
tl,dr how do I compile a kernel for this
I'm really new to all this stuff, but curiosity makes me want to go further. I hope somebody can help me a little bit.
Thanks in advance.
My phone is a s2 i9100, cm10.1

[Q] Install Linux?

Has anyone been able to install Linux on the Galaxy Note Pro? I'd really like to install it, but haven't found success using the Complete Linux Installer (my tablet is rooted). Apologies if a thread relating to this already exists!

My guess is there is no working kernel for this device, and since we don't have a working device tree to build kernels or even complete kernel source, it's probably not going to happen anytime soon.

That is a shame .. this would be great for it. Does anyone know if anyone is working on this, or who could (and how they might be encouraged)? I would love to see Linux on this!

I have not heard of anyone working on this... Unfortunately the developer support for this device is very minimal. We can't even get a basic AOSP ROM much less a full Linux distribution. Until the price comes down and some devs with a bit of skill pick this up there likely won't be much besides stock based ROMs.

[Completed] [Q] Help for newbie to Android Roms using Linux

Dear all,
I have tried in the past to backup and flash roms on some devices using Windows with some success. Now I have completely switched to Linux and have not been able to find a guide that would allow me to get started.
I have a Lenovo mobile (A806) that comes with good hardware but a crappy version of Android 4.4.2 that makes the user experience very unpleasant.
I am trying to figure out how to root my device, backup the rom currently on my device, find a custom rom (possibly based on Android 5),
flash it, and eventually troubleshooting common problems one might have. It might as well be that there are many other things I need to know, so please just let me know: I am here to learn.
I have no idea where to start to do this from Linux, so I would really appreciate if you folks could point me to the right tools/resources,
and help me getting started.
Thanks a lot in advance to all of you

Unfortunately, there is not much about your device on xda.
You can check this thread: Lenovo Golden Warrior A8 (A806) root.
There are some users which have managed to root this device.
Maybe they can help.
Good luck !

Thanks a lot I'll try to post in the right thread! Just some more advice: can you point me to some guide to backup and flash roms
from Linux (even general not necessarily for my mobile).
Thanks again!

Hi Luca,
here is a thread about flashing ROMs on LINUX: Flash Rom under Linux.
And here another one: step 1 and 3 under linux ?
... but they are originally for another devices.
Here is a better guide: [ROM][DEV][REF] Heimdall Firmware Packages S4 LTE+ I9506 ... as you can see, it's for Samsung devices.
But it's a good read anyway.
Many thanks
I hope I can flash something soon!
Cheers,
Luca

Galaxy tab4 sm t230 updated firmware

Hi guys
I'm looking to update the firmware on this old tablet as it's a bit out of date and a bit sluggish it's been a long time since I've rooted or flashed anything android. I own a Linux satellite receiver and have flashed firmware images bootloader etc so hoping this will help me. I'm basically looking for a guide from start to finish to bring this tablet a bit more up to date, hope somebody can point me in the right direction.
Thanks.

Check if these 2 ROMs are enough stable for you: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...11-cm-14-1-based-android-4-4-4-7-1-2.3648887/
Thanks matteo I think I'd like to try your build I've read quite a few of your post and you seem to know quite a lot about these tablets all I need to know now is what to download and how to flash it
Thanks

What to download is in the thread (rom, gapps and twrp), and you can find instructions all over the internet. I've wrote something in my thread of lineage 16 and twrp on how to install them (lineage 16 has the same instructions as the other ROMs I've linked you) too. What I advice you is to understand well what you have to do before doing everything. Otherwise, it can happen that you'll come back and say: "device doesn't boot anymore, what to do now?"
Yes I'm trying to gather as much information as I can so as to avoid any problems when I actually try to do the flash process. I will read up some more.
Thanks again

Hey Matteo- do you think this ROM is still the best option for those of us with a SM-T230 / DEGAS ? There isn't a proper LineageOS build is there? Appreciate the knowledge, thank you.

Yes. There's a LOS16 for T235, but not for T230.

Hi, I will ask maybe stupid question, since knowledge is 0 in terms of android, but is there a possibility to upload some ROM with android 9.0 to T230? (I even do not know if I haven't made mistake in question )
Anyway I need 9.0 for app and already rooted device following step by step instruction.
Thx in advance

No, since there aren't any devs with enough interest/knowledge to make them.
Hi there. I have found an old SM-T230. I need to install some apps, which require at least Android 7. Will the above Custom ROMS work in that way, that i can install apps build for Android 7 or higher? I fear, i have to find some GApps but thats a other story... if someone can assist to find the right ROM and GApps, this would be nice...
