OnePlus 8 TMO to global does the carrier policy change to get 5g from other carriers? - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

So I got the OnePlus 8 on T-Mobile and I'm thinking about switching it to the global version ROM. I'm not unlock yet or anything like that but I haven't got to that point.
So what I'm asking is I'm currently on US Mobile with a Verizon 5G Sim now I can force it to go and add the 5G radio to the radio's list and I will get the 5G banner in the right hand corner but really it's LTE advance.
I found a web page and file on the internet that talked about editing the carrier policy to include all the different carrier signal aggregations and such and to make the phone see all the possible ways to connect. Since this is a T-Mobile version it doesn't connect to Verizon's 5G towers but all the OnePlus 8s are the exact same and have the same modems and such so when you change that carrier policy you basically make it see Verizon's non-standal on 5G towers and it'll connect to them because it's on the same bands in my area. That's my question
Do I need to do the carrier policy edit to get actual 5G non standalone service on this phone or can I just simply switch this phone over to the OnePlus 8 global version of the ROM and will it automatically pick up Verizon 5G towers like it would with the unlocked version?

Did u found anything about carrier change etc?

New Note 20 Ultra N986U1 / No 5G

Picked up the unlocked version and activate with Verizon 5G sim here in Honolulu HI. Verizon coverage map states my area and pretty much the entire island is covered for 5G nationwide.
I have full LTE+ showing on my phone but after tshoot with Verizon for the last few hours and driving around a couple miles..my indicator has not changed at all to 5G.
Am i interpreting the coverage map wrong when it says all of the island is on 5G nationwide, meaning to me, i should see the 5G network on my phone?
Since i unboxed this device yesterday, it only pulled down one update and nothing new is showing as far as software updates.
Powered off the device a few times along with a network reset and still no 5G..
So far I've found the 5G feature to be the most overhyped, most under developed feature I've seen that was this hyped up in a long while. For the most part at the moment, i find it that unless you're standing on a block containing a 5mm 5G cell tower, 5G as of right now is pretty sparse and mostly useless.

Only the Verizon branded phones have gotten the update to enable the sub6 5g. The unlocked phones have not been updated for it.

What you can do is use the *#272*<imei number>#
Choose the att csc and choose the option to only change the network code.
I tried this and got 5g for 1.1 sec. What exactly does this do?
You can also enable bands and DSS for verizon nationwide coverage through the service mode menus. I have a n20 ultra with U1 firmware on verizon csc with 5G working.

Where under service mode do you enabled bands and DSS please? Is this while the network code is switched to ATT?

Thanks, I did this and was able to get 5G to show. I did see some connectivity issues after doing this with things like apps reaching out to their servers and what not. Oddly, speed test gave me lower speed results than on LTE for some reason..

Yeah that's expected unfortunately. Some users see higher and some see lower

I attached screenshots of the menus I changed to enable 5G. The DSS menu enables 5G DSS, the LTE band menu enables all the LTE bands and the NR prune menu enables all the 5G bands. I would restore the VZW csc before making any changes. Changing the csc resets any service mode changes made manually. It will also work under any of the csc's selected, but then other things like wifi calling and visual voice-mail are configured for that carrier and don't work right. Also, carrier aggregation combos for lte and 5g produce slower data speeds if you have sales and network codes mismatched to the SIM thats being used.
How did you get to that menu

That worked like a charm... Gahhhh feels like a clog has been removed from my phone's data connection. #lifesaver
One ui 3 beta build enables 5g for Verizon if anyone wants to take that route. Looks like someone figured out how to enable it through google phone though [emoji106]

I have Unlocked T-mobile A71 5G, It works on Verizon network like 4G LTE (just swap the SIM card even I have 5G Sim card from Verizon) but NO 5G because they are using different 5G Band.
I have the same question, but on cricket wireless, I can't get the phone to login to their network
It works just fine on any GSM/LTE network. I have not checked this personally for this device, but depending on the variant you have, you may be missing some LTE or 5G bands specific Verizon. You may not get full performance. That must be verified though.

Can I enable 5G with root?

Helllo
I live in Greece and currently my carrier doesn't support my phone for 5G.
I want to ask if I can enable it manualy by rooting my phone
Just ask yourself after thinking about that.... your PROVIDER does not support a feature you want. Does it really change anything if you do whatever change to your mobile?
Btw: OP 8T supports 5G by default. No need to root for that.
Carrier supports 5g but a stupid identification of the device doesn't let me use it
Hm.. in such case it might be possible if you can change device´s recognition to one that´s identified "correctly". I´m not sure but I assume I´ve got the same problem in Switzerland. Haven´t watched closely but I don´t remember seeing 5G in display already.
Years ago you could have changed device ID by changing build.prop. But afaik they changed that and I don´t know how to do nowadays.. Sorry, hopefully there´ll be anyone else helping you out.
If the issue is your carrier support bands that do not exist in your phones antennae then i do not believe you will find any relief with root.
Two things need to happen: 1st is that your provider's 5G bands are actively supported on the phone. 2nd is your provider needs to certify (that is allow) your phone to access 5G on their network. So then, if the bands are there then you need to contact your provider and somehow get them to allow your phone on their 5G network! I was using the 8T on AT&T and NO 5G...moved to T-Mobile and 5G was available the moment I inserted the SIM.
OP8T have 5G enabled only certain networks. In Greece not enabled by you can follow my blog guide to enable manually if you like: https://mt.ax/uLgc2 . There is also list of 5G enabled networks and bands.

AT&T 5G & KB2000

Good morning all,
I purchased the KB2000 for the aesthetic look of the phone. Being a big Cyberpunk 2077 fan (and all things 'futuristic') I decided to get the phone knowing that things such as 5G was going to be a big maybe.
Well to my suprise, 5G is not functional. I get mixed answers that the phone OOB supports all bands and that OnePlus simply disabled them, others (like my understanding) say it's all hardware and cannot be 'added' by software fixes. I tried some of the fixes posted, but not knowing much about OnePlus I'm thinking its a fault on my part.
I went from using HOS ('5G'), OOS ('5G'), Pure Pixel (LTE+), to Paranoid Android (LTE+). While on HOS and OOS I would get a 5G icon, however, when I would go to check the network status (*#*#4636#*#*) I see NR: NOT_Restricted Connected: LTE, where as when I change to Paranoid Android that Not Restricted changed to Restricted..
I am very new to OnePlus and would like to know, can bands be 'enabled' on this phone? Currently using this phone on the AT&T network with 5G access (AT&T Unlimited Elite plan)
Thanks!
Frequency bands are hardware features just like wifi or Bluetooth. The Chinese OnePlus 8t (KB2000) does not include US 5g frequency bands. KB2005 and KB2007 include the bands for TMobile 5g. None of the 8t versions include the bands for AT&T 5g.

mine is a global on postpaid att
Go into dialer settings #*#*4636*#*# phone info and make sure Nr is selected
AT&T doesn't have the OP9 as a certified phone on their network. There is no way around this, either. I've tried everything and even selecting NR doesn't yield 5G on the device. It has something to do with the bands AT&T users for 5G.
Do you get the 5G symbol or does it just stay on LTE?
You might be able to change "carrier_policy" using the Qualcomm .exe and QTSP .exe on the computer.
I have done it on other phones. there's a guide for it....

This right here. As a former AT&T employee (corporate office, not retail level), I can tell you that it is most likely that the handset does not use the same 5G bands as AT&T.
AT&T primarily uses the n260 band (39GHz mmWave) and the Global OnePlus 9 does not use that band. In fact, none of the models of OnePlus 9 use n260. Now, from what I understand, AT&T *does* provide low-band n5 service in some areas so it IS possible that some users may report having 5G service on their OP9, but it's purely because they're in a low-band n5 area and as soon as they move into a more populated area where it switches to n260Go to and see, their phone will drop back to LTE.
What I can tell you from my real world experience is that 5G is really nothing to write home about. I live in one of the largest markets in the US and 5G is really not any faster than LTE most of the time. In some cases, it's actually SLOWER.

The LE2115 OnePlus 9 has AT&T's low band and C-Band 5G bands, with no mmWave, the LE2125 9 Pro has all of AT&T's 5G bands yet AT&T does not want to whitelist it for 5G access on their network. Verizon certified it for their 5G (OnePlus 9, nationwide 5G, and you can use QPST to enable C-Band on the 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, nationwide 5G, you can use QPST to enable C-Band on the 9 Pro, and mmWave), why can't AT&T?
