I had my 7.7 for some time and about 2 days ago i've bought a cheap chinese usb otg cable from some shoup around here. I thought it would be as simple as pluging it in and connecting some usb stick like i've done with justabout all usb otg stuff i previously owned. But it doesn`t do anything. I`ve tried other usb devices, the tab simply doesn`t power them at all. I`ve also disasembled the cable and measure it, everything is fine. I`m on stock ics 4.04, also tried a couple of kernels, it just doesn`t work.
Has anyone encountered such a problem.? Damn weird....

errrr....I think I misread your issue and specific item...
sorry!
Still great though!
The usb otg cable is just a plain simple usb cable with a 20kilo ohm resistor placed between 2 pins on the galaxy tab 30pin connector. That's about all the things inside the actual cable. When you plug it in, the tablet should figure out that the 20k resistor made contact with the pins and an accesory was connected. Mine doesn't. The cable is fine, i think there's something wrong with the tablet. Doesn't it supossed to power on whatever you insert on that usb port? Because i can't get those 5v on the port.
I don't know if it's a software or hardware problem....

what file system is your USB Stick using? try formatting the stick to FAT32 and see if its a file system issue
have you tried using another OTG cable? I'm also using a china knock off bought for 4 bucks, running stock ICS and it detects most of the thumb drives I attached to it
thanks for the replies but the situation is kind of different in my case.
In order for the tablet to read what kind of filesystem you have on a usb mass storage device (stick, hdd, whatever) it must first power it on and then attempt to access it. In my case, it simply doesn't power on. So, it doesn't matter what kind of file format it has. Also, if i plug a mouse/keyboard, it won't work either.
I thought that maybe it's a broken wire inside the connector, so i took it apart and measured each pin. The otg adapter is fine, it should do the job. I've also tested on another samsung tab and it worked straight away. It seems there's something wrong with my tab. However, other then this, the 30 pin port on the tab itself seems to be working fine.
Hello everyone,
A couple of weeks ago my USB data connection on my OnePlus One has stopped working.
This means that no connection is even detected on any computer.
This is not a driver issue as the computer doesn't even notice anything has plugged in.
I think it's not a software/ROM issue because the same applies to fastboot mode and recovery mode - no data connection, no "usb plugged in" sound on any computer, no device showing up.
It's also not a cable issue, as the same cable works on other OnePlus One's and I've tried many different known-to-be-working cables.
More facts:
1) When plugging to a computer USB port - the battery icon shows the charging (lightning) symbol for a half a second and disappears and it won't charge. The computer, of course, doesn't see a usb device plugged.
2) When connecting to an AC charger - it charges just fine.
3) I already tried replacing the dock connector and flat cable unit with a new one - did not solve the issue, which means the dock connector is fine.
Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

By dock connector, you mean the USB port? Typically, this issue arises when the pins in the USB port get damaged. I don't know how the rest works out, but if that particular section of pins have to communicate throughout the rest of the motherboard, perhaps the trail responsible for that may have somehow gotten damaged. This is a clueless theory, someone with more electrical/motherboard experience can verify this.
What I do know is that once the micro USB port has been replaced on the phone, the issue should be fixed. It happened to an S3 I still have and I got it replaced by a friend. Sadly, it happened to me at the wrong time since i had wiped the entire OS and internal storage and was relying on my USB OTG cable and a flash drive which contained a rare rom called Sonic Open Kang Project (SOKP).
DO NOTE that this has also been an issue with me on the software side of certain devices. I uave had practically every flagship device out there and have come across a point where this happens on both stock and custom roms. My Optimus G did it on custom roms, and my Nexus 7 2012 occasionally on stock. There were other devices I cannot remember but sometimes factory resets or replacing the rom helps. However, you did state that the result is still the same on fastboot/recovery, so this seems to be more on the hardware side.
I replaced the USB connector (including it's flex cable) entirely. Did not solve the issue.
What else could be wrong?
try again

I tried a lot of different computers and cables. None of them detect a USB connection.
Again, to clarify - they don't even SEE a usb device has been plugged in.
recovery?

You running a custom recovery? If so, see if you can toggle the mtp on/off reboot with each back to recovery. Use the tools to check the filesystem, permissions, etc.
Could pins have damaged?
Well, I did replace the USB connector with a new one, so if pins are damaged it's gotta be on the motherboard side, and I can think of no reason why that would ever happen.
As for recovery, I'm running TWRP and I'm not sure I understand what you meant I should try. Can you elaborate?
Thanks
Hello,
I recently flashed TWRP and CyanogenMod 13 on my Mi4. It was working quite well, I had some problems with the rotation sensor and some bugs in the software, but Quick Charge and also the Connection to the PC worked without problems.
Today when I was on my way home I was charging my Mi4 with a Qalcomm 2.0 Quick Charge Powerbank from Aukey (i have used it in the past on other phones, always worked great), but it seems that the USB cable was broken, it was charging very slowly and it also seemed to have a defective contact (the cable charged if i moved it around a bit, but in certain positions it wouldn't charge).
However, when i got home and plugged it in, I noticed that the phone also charged very slowly with the charger, so I thought that I would just flash MIUI back on the device to fix it, maybe it was a problem with Cyanogenmod. But that didn't work at all, the phone couldn't connect to the pc.
So, here's my problem: The PC can't detect the phone and it also seems, that the phone doesn't recognize, that its connected to a pc. Charging via the USB ist still working, but very slow. Also Quick Charging isn't working, it doesn't matter which charger or cable I use, it's always slow. When I connect the phone to the charger or the PC it takes like 5 seconds to recognize, that a cable is connected, then it starts (slow) charging.
The phone doesn't show up in the windows device manager at all (there are no unkown devices shown, the pc just doesn't react when you connect the phone). Also there is no message on the phone when you connect it (usually you can choose if you want the use your phone as a usb drive or just charge it). I also tried to activate MTP in the developer settings on the phone and turning USB Debugging On/Off, but it didn't help.
I managed to download a MIUI Rom from xiaomi.eu with the phone and installed it with TWRP, but it didn't help. So I think I actually broke the USB Port of my phone with a defective Micro USB Cable. The phone can still charge (very very slowly, no quick charge possible), but I can't connect it to the PC anymore. The pc also won't detect the phone when it's in fastboot mode.
I tried to look it up on the internet, but all I found were people with driver problems, and I don't think that I have a driver problem, because it seems like there is no connection between PC and Phone besides the charging.
Anyone knows something about this? Is it even possible to just break the data connection and the quick charging with a defective cable?
Hey, did you get your Mi working? I have a similar experience with mine.

No, I didn't find a solution for the problem. Phone is still not working, I even ordered a new charging port, but I made a mistake and ordered one for the LTE version. I have the 3g version, so the new charging port didn't even work with my phone. I don't want to spend any more money on it, so I just gave up on fixing it.
Same problem, and I am also stucked in recovery for now, never will buy phone without SdCard now...
Somobody found solution?
Hey guys,
Bit of an odd one... My mix 2s wont recognise to my PC, no matter what i do and due to a bug in miui, i dont have quick charge. It's a pretty common bug and theres supposedly a fix, but it requires root.
Im currently running MIUI 10 global 10.0.2.1.0 .
Given i cant unlock my bootloader without my PC connecting, am i stuck, or is there a workaround?
Thank you if you can help

Is your cable perhaps broken?
USB accessories commonly use 4 pins/wires: V+ and V- for power supply; D+ and D- for data transferring
Probably your cable, PC or phone port has D+ or D- broken.
Check them out.
I'm pretty secure to say root won't fix it.
I have multiple genuine and aftermarket quality cables.
I know my USB issue sounds hardware, but im quite certain its software based.
Reason is : my mi6 still quick charged and had MTP via pc before i updated it to miui10 as well .
Now i can only quick charge the mi6 when the phone is off.
Thanks for your help all the same

I'll bite, what type of USB port are you plugging into on your PC?
Usb 2, usb 3, front panel, rear panel... Same result.
Trickle charge. No usb options. Usb debug etc all set

If you update yo miui developer update app in the system, do you think that it would solve your issue?
Since your pc does not detect your phone, I don't think that it will fast chare even with the root fix you mentioned. The charger communicates with the phone over the usb data lines, if there is a fault, they can not communicate, therefore no fast charging.. it might be a faulty usb socket or something
I have the same problem. quick charge + OTG not work. please help..
*hard reset + change to antoher cable not solved
Hello,
I recently installed the unit.
Tried to connect usb stick to usb 1 and it didn't recognized it.
Tried port 2 and it burned the usb stick!
Did anyone had this problem?
Is it possible to connect the usb to the wrong place at the back of the unit?
Any help would be most appreciated.
What did seller suggest when contacted for support
I'm going to measure the usb voltage and then contact the seller
Problem solved!
It appears to be that the usb 2 and 3 cable can be connected to the canbus connector.
Replaced to the right connector and the problem solved.

I have the same problem... but what about USB1??? It still not recognizing the USB stick? And do you have photos of the installation?
From what I understand, the 8 pin (canbus) can be used with the 6 pin (USB 2 and 3) , leaving the right 2 pins alone(unconnected)...
That's because the problem I have is that USB1 does charge my phone but there's no data transfer or recognizing USB stick... debugging off and USB configuration is in TRANSFER DATA.... but USB 2 and 3... when I connect my phone it show the charging logo for about 2 seconds... then... it stops charging, also no data transfer or recognizing the USB stick
