Schok Freedom Turbo XL 2022 Edition - General Topics

I couldn't find any categories for Schok so I'm posting here. Feel free to move if needed. I saw this phone which was launched a couple weeks ago and is labeled the" 2022 edition".
Schok Freedom Turbo XL - Schok Gear
The most advanced flip phone in its class. The Schok classic is made for consumers who enjoy life without complications.
www.schokgear.com
It comes with Jan 2022 security update on the phone out of the box. Does anyone know if Schok ever updates their phones with security updates? What about Android updates? I don't care about 5g, but the phone comes with Android 10 which I think is a little outdated for a new phone in 2022. If not is there a way of updating these ourselves both for security updates and Android OS?

Security Patch Updates

Why is motorola not providing Security patch updates?
In Moto X Style Security patch level is November 2015
In Moto X Play Security Patch level is December 2015
In Moto G (3rd Gen) Security patch level is December 2015
Google has already released January 2016 security patch & after some days Febuary 2016 patch will be released.Every month Google will release Security Patches.
Why motorola is lacking behind. not providing security patch updates?
With all the new security patches several vulnerabilities are fixed.
Samsung has started providing Security patches every month.Samsung has already released January 2016 security patch level.
Htc & Honor has also started providing patches.Even CM 13 has latest security patch level
Why is motorola not Providing?
Motorola should start providing Security patches updates so that it helps the users to free from vulnerabilities.
A mountain out of a mole hill.
Good god man. Is your phone working properly without any one passing through your "Vulnerability" ? most likely yes. so no harm if the update comes late. it's pointless to keep asking for updates and dissing moto.
First everyone was asking for Marshmallow and now they want Mushrooms....
Sent from my Toilet using Moto G3....
Considering the kernel root exploit which was discovered a few days ago and which affects pretty much all Android devices, including the ones running Marshmallow, I think that's not an unreasonable request.
Getting security updates in time and on a regular basis is much more important than being the first one to get a new OS version.

I suggest that you do a little more investigation before you announce that the sky is falling. The latest vulnerabilities were released by Perception Point and Redhat without Androids security people knowing anything about it. It's suggested by many security experts that it won't affect that many devices, Androids lead security engineer stated "devices with Android 5.0 and above are protected, as the Android SELinux policy prevents 3rd party applications from reaching the affected code."
I like what another person says,
" I find it stupid that (1) people are concerned that there phone may be at risk and more likely isn't, (2) moaning google have not reacted properly yet they have patched AOSP even though it was just dropped on them, (3) people have specifically chosen a manufacturer without checking if the do security patching and complain they don't get patches.
If you think security is most important feature of your phone, get a nexus or iOS device or pick a manufacturer that states they will patch. Bit stupid getting a phone for it's pen then moaning about patching."

April Security Update for V60 on AT&T

I got the system software update yesterday afternoon.
Android 10
Android Security Patch Level: April 1, 2020
Software Version: V600AM10h
This is the first update since I got my phone on April 1st, and it shipped with the February 2020 Security Patch.
Just an FYI for folks on the fence for whatever reason. A surprisingly timely update.
I hear T-Mo users got a similar update as well.
Edit - I can't seem to upload an image of my Settings screen.
Adding proof via screen shot.
I couldn't figure out how to edit an attachment into the original post.
Apologies for the double-post.
New update on AT&T just hit.
Still on the April 1, 2020 security patch, but the software version number jumped from V600AM10h to V600AM10p.
No idea what's new, yet.
Is there a way to turn off auto updates? I was in the middle of a video chat when it decided to install this update and reboot my device.
Update info from AT&T support page
Support page says it adds Dynamic Spectrum Sharing
Will not show as available for me on mine.
My LG phones NEVER update. AT&T tech says: "We'll push one out. It will come in 4 hours" but it never happens. They replaced my V30 and G8 over that. I've had my V60 since the week it was launched. No updates.

Samsung quits support for the Galaxy S8

Well.. after all the drama Galaxy users had with their previous flagships regarding Software Updates, the Galaxy S8 is the next one to be silently ended by Samsung. They removed the S8/S8+ from their Security Update site, which means that the April 2021 patch was the last one we will ever see from Samsung's site on the S8. Maybe they will roll out an additional one, as they did last year with the Galaxy S7 (EOL: August 2020 patch), but thats not guaranteed..
Sad news but I already saw that coming last year, so I already switched to an iPhone.
Sad story.
How secure is using an unpatched phone with a good antimalware / antivirus ?
Alternatives?
Are there custom ROMs receiving security updates that can be used
with play store etc... without having root enabled?
I'm wondering this myself.
Is it time to buy a new phone and retire this?
My display is already cracked in two corners with small bits gone.
I'm not happy that there are no more security updates.
I have the same questions! I'd like to install a custom rom but the links all seem to be down.

Question June’s Android 13 QPR3 update with the next Pixel Feature Drop is late

Given that two out of the last three updates arrived late, we’re not too surprised that Android 13 QPR3 with the June 2023 security patch and the next Pixel Feature Drop is not yet out.
Historically, Google releases Pixel security patches on the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m. In March, Android 13 QPR2 rolled out a week late, while the Verizon variant for the Pixel 6 and 6a series took another seven days. Despite being a more minor update, the same thing happened in April. Things went back to normal last month, but the delay has now returned.
As of 10:30 a.m. (PT), the stable release of Android 13 QPR3 has not been announced. We do, however, have the Android Security Bulletin—June 2023. There are 23 security issues resolved in the Android 13 June patch dated 2023-06-01 and 34 for 2023-06-05. Google warns that:
There are indications that CVE-2022-22706 may be under limited, targeted exploitation.

The vulnerability relates to ARM Mali GPUs and has a “high” severity.
It comes as the Android 13 QPR3 Beta Program was quite sporadic. Beta 1 arrived in mid-March and Beta 2 went out after only two weeks compared to the usual month-long wait. Beta 3 followed three weeks later with Beta 3.2 being the last release in mid-May.
Android 14 might have played a role given the close release cadence, while another factor might be how the Pixel Tablet and Fold are launching with Android 13 QPR3.
Can't say I'm surprised.

If it means patching bugs before it's released, I'm OK with it
They are waiting for Apple to allow them to release.
Feature drop?
Latest March feature drop brought to pixel 7 devices stunning new features.
This...
"March Feature Drop
On the Pixel 7 series, two eSIMs can be used for Dual SIM Dual Standby, and there’s also support for T-Mobile 3CA, as well as 5G for the Pixel 6a and 7/Pro in India."
And as I remember, also this small change: "Google has also replaced the battery percentage in Quick Settings with a remaining day/hour or “Until hh:mm” estimate."
Wow, I was speechless with the big amazing list of new features dropped to our Pixel 7 devices.
Now, 3 month later, new Pixel devices feature drop, and looking to latest betas, I'm able to say, Google should do a small change, and change the name from Feature Drop to Drop Feature, because, one of the new feature that arrived in March, maybe will be removed, because it was already removed on beta.
The return of the battery percentage in quick settings.
Let's see what Google bring to us!

Hotwav cyber 7 security updates

Hello everyone, this is my first post on this forum.
I was gifted with a hotwav cyber 7 rugged smartphone which I quite like. The only problem Is that when I try to update It, it says that the last available android security update was on 5 October 2021.. is it normal? Is safe to use a device like that? I forgot to say that it has android 11.
Security patches are frequent for phones, and there are easy ways to keep up to date on your phone in particular. But: It's on OEM whether they provide updates published by Google or not. Google can't force anyone to deliver them to you. So you'll need to wait for them to send an update.
BTW:
That's the reason why I use Google Pixel phones. Thus latest update I got is security upate released 2023-06-05.
Yes I'd use a different phone too, but this one was a gift. So with that said, is it safe to use a device like that as my main smartphone? Are the security patches that important or the usage of an AntiVirus can make up for the shortage of updates?
IMO antivirus programs aren't beneficial on a smartphone, are senseless crap, only the Android security patches MUST NOT BE IGNORED BUT IMMEDIATELY GET INSTALLED.
FYI: Samsung closes a total of 64 security vulnerabilities in Galaxy devices with the June update.
Got it.. so do you suggest me to get rid of a smartphone with android 11 that had its last update in October '21 and will probably never have further updates?
