Hi all, layman none developer nerd here. Bought the 12S Ultra from Wanda. Been using for nearly a week now. Camera seems great which is very important to me, battery great, software not amazing and oddities that are frustrating such as volume rocker on right and no buttons on left of phone.
Anyway two questions,
1) Android Auto will not work. Wired or wireless. Not a deal breaker at all but any way around this? Gives an error message 22 saying it wasn't pre installed on OS so won't work.
2) I'm not in a contract I've got a cheapo EE PAYG which I just put in this. Network doesn't seem great. Occasionally I lose signal at home. Didn't on my OnePlus7 Pro. 3 bars now actually, maybe it can improve?
Does anyone know what provider would be best suited to this phone, ie. The best match on bands?
Thanks for input.
There is no workaround for android auto for the moment (at least I don't know it).
The best network for UK should be EE and Vodaphone, because 12s ultra lacks only one band that they use (b20).
But if you are on a rural area, you will notice the slower connectivity exactly because b20 is used to cover huge rural areas and on remote places b20 is the only available band for ee.
I'm from UK and haven't noticed any drops compared to my p6p. Living in London but travel to the south coast and no issues by now.
I'm using Three (smarty) and have no connection issues in my rural area. My 10 ultra had band 20 missing when I was with Sky (o2) and all though I had very little 4g because of the missing band, my 3g was amazing with great throughput. Probably because everyone was using 4 g!
May be wait for the Xiaomi EU ROM and see if AA works with it.

I have Chinese ROM 12/512 and its working fine in UK inluding 5G ( am on O2).
Awesome camera and superfast CPU with great battery life.
I don't own a car so cannot test Android Auto , but have yo tried disabling battery-optimisation and enable ALL permissions on the App?
Gboard remains the default for me on rebooting.

Minor Niggles x2
1. After every reboot GBOARD gets disabled and default keyboard reverts to chinese. Easy fix, change default back to GBOARD.
2. MIUI13 on Chinese ROM *ONLY* supports built-in Chinese Widgets. Workaround: use a different launcher (I use Nova Prime).

1. GBoard stays as default after restarting for me. I did notice that it would change back to MIUI keyboard when typing a password but there is a security setting that can be disabled, so now GBoard is the only keyboard that pops up when typing anything.
2. It also supports Android widgets: Go to Widgets section > On the top right, Click on the button with squares > Click Android widgets on the bottom. You will now be able to add android widgets. See screenshots attached.

what about 4g signals and bank apps? are there any issues using this phone in the UK? planning to change my s22 ultra to 12s ultra due to lagging a lot on social apps
I'm in the UK and have no trouble with any apps including bank ( Lloyd's). As a Xiaomi 11 and 10 ultra both starting on stock Chinese, I've had no app issues but will be flashing Xiaomi EU's ROM when ready. If you have not heard, pop over to their forum for details. But it will make a good phone great.
One word of warning though. Please check the network bands that your network supplier use. The 12s ultra does have a couple of missing 4g UK bands. The 10 ultra was the same and my 4g on sky ( 02) hardly worked. However, I didn't really miss it as everyone else was using 4g, my 3g was blisteringly fast. I'm on 3 now, so no issues.

For any app you are experiencing notification problems, set app autostart to enabled and battery management to disabled.

Hi I'm 10 miles from Glasgow so only getting 4g signal where I live. I get 5g no problem if I travel into city though
How can I test B20 for you ? Happy to help
The way I see it:
Because 12s ultra is lacking b20, other phone has to be used for testing.
Set the phone to work ONLY on lte (4g), install cellmapper and check the bands from there while travelling.
The other way is to set 12s ultra on 4g only and when you see yourself out of signal - I bet, you are on b20 only area (but knowing this band is used mainly in rural areas to cover more land, I'm not sure you will happen to be in ONLY B20 area)

My F1 Global Version arrived this afternoon. I popped in my T-Mobile SIM and set the phone up. I've been using it for less than an hour.
Good News:
Voice works fine. I made multiple test calls with WiFi off. All sounded great.
Bad News:
So far I've not been able to get a data connection via 4G. It says I have service but pages won't open. I'll play around with it more.
Anyone else on T-Mobile in the US and able to get data?
EDIT: Data seems to be hit-miss. For the last 20 minutes data seems stable.
After about 10 hours of use, I can confirm that US T-Mobile users cannot get 4G on the F1. Even though it says it has an LTE connection.
Voice and 3G work fine. If you're planning to use this with data on T-Mobile, you might want to look elsewhere. I use mine mostly on WiFi so not a deal breaker for me.
I too am on T-Mo and live in Chicago. Voice sounds great. Same experience with data - the phone shows "4G" but I am getting 3G speeds. I've run Speedtest numerous ties, and I'm consistently getting 10 Mbps down, and a few up. Absolutely adequate for my needs (Spotify, email, etc.). In fact, Spotify runs so much faster than my previous phone, that it is a huge improvement for me. So, I've had the same experience, and for me, as well, 3G is not an issue.

My Speedtest results are attached. There's some variance, but about 10 Mbps down on 3G. Of note, the Wifi results are crazy, and easily 2x faster than my previously phone (LG V20) on the same exact network. In my experience, at both home and work, the Wifi on the F1 is ridiculously good.

I agree on the WiFi. I have FIOS gig service I'm getting 400 MB down and 450 up at home on WiFI. with the F1. Better than my S9+ or OnePlus 6
I'm very impressed by the F1. More so than I thought. Just waiting for my unlock code. I have not run into an app yet that has given me an issue. I'll be testing Android Auto later today when I get home. This is truly a nice phone at an amazing price. While no 4G is disappointing, I'm wondering if the band is there, just not turned on. Won't be the first time we have seen that.
Come on development!
Thanks for the follow-up. Also, although a little off topic, I'm interested in hearing about your experience with Android Auto. For me, "Ok Google" isn't currently working. I understand that's a Google issue, not a problem with the F1 (I hope). Haven't been able to text in the car, like I usually do, so I'm anxiously awaiting a fix for that!
My pocophone will not connect to T-Mobile. I have the correct APN settings and it does not connect. I'm surprised you guys are seeing connectivity. I'm in the new york area

Compared to my Mi A1 or Redmi 4X I don't get a LTE symbol here in austria (three), speed is probably mediocre.

T-Mobile has Band 5 in limited markets (which F1 includes). 2, 4, and 12 are prevalent in NY. My current phone has B5 and I've never seen it connect to that band personally.
As for OP. 4G is probably HSPA (3G) but that's very slow. Can you use Network Signal Guru to confirm signal type?

Same here. Got it yesterday and requested unlock code last night.
Hi. Im in uk and have f2 pro 5g. I have in settings set prefer network to 5g. 5g is not available where i am at all. My problem is my mobile data (working fine with lots of other phones so not signal related) sometimes just stops working.
I have set to prefer to 4g and still the same. I have updated my apn settings ( not much to change) and done factory reset. I have looked on the dial *#*#4636#*#* and i have phone info 1 and phone info 2. I go to set network type and have a list. Whenever i chose one after reboot it changes back to unknown. (Please see pics)
Any ideas???
Thanks guys.
Hello mate, phenomenally I've just received the phone yesterday. Beautiful phone. However I've come to notice the same issue. Changing over prefer lte or 5g does nothing. The only real fix is switching off data and switching it back on. Never had this issue with all my previous phones, including realme, oneplus and Huawei. It's most probably a software fault. But it's making me want to return it.
Im noticing the following, switching WiFi off when outside doesn't cause the issue but need further testing to confirm.
I read about that bug but I can not confirm it. If you turn on 5G you can only use 1 sim card but 5G is anyways almost useles on this device (only N77/N78)
3 uk is on N78

Agree, I live in Puerto Rico and it doesn't even have T-Mobiles band 66 LTE. Incredible that a phone powered by a SD 865 lack of all of these. Software updates are super bad, I haven't got 1 single update and 5G on this phone is useless.
Hi guys,
recently I upgraded my Poco F1 to F2 Pro and I'm loving the hell out of it. But there's one problem. I've attached my bank cards to my Google Pay account to pay with them via NFC. However, my Poco after connecting with the terminal pops up an alert in Google Pay "It isn't working" with a pic of my card and red circle with exclamation mark inside. I've changed my NFC setting to mobile HCE wallet, reset my NFC functionality and nothing works. I'm currently on MIUI 12.0.3.0 Stable. It doesn't work on either of my cards. Could you please help me sort this out? I'd be grateful
Can't help you, but I also have a problem with NFC... my Bluetooth speaker which supports NFC doesn't work with this phone via NFC. It works however with all other phones in the house.
I will really consider not buying another Xiaomi phone, since they have many features advertised, but some don't really work (like 5G, which only supports 2 bands).

5G works, just not with your provider which doesn't support those bands. That's not Xiaomi's fault.
Yes , I know it supports exactly 2 bands. If you're from a country in the middle of EU, that will not likely have those 2 bands, you're f****. I mentioned this, because I also have a RN5, that was advertised as having AI which it never had/got to this day.
I like the phone, but it has many bugs. But this is already off topic.

Hi there,
Got a transparent M10 Ultra from Wanda Mobile a few weeks ago. It come with a screen protector already applied (not sure if this comes in the box as standard?) and had Google Play preinstalled (though if I had realised I would have asked for a sealed box...). Anyway, after the week of waiting, unlocked and flashed stable Xiaomi.eu ROM and updated to latest (12.0.14) at the weekend. When I was out and about though I noticed that I rarely had 4G on GiffGaff (02) and dug into the settings.
My SIM is in slot 2 and the 'Phone information 2' showed 'unknown' for 'Set Preferred Network Type'. Popping the SIM back into my trusty Poco F1 it showed it as 'LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS', and I have now changed the Ultras settings to this. However, when I went back into this earlier it had gone back to 'Unknown'.....
If anyone could help with their settings it would be much appreciated. Any comments on Wanda Mobile also welcome...
Cheers,
Mark
The phone has no band 20. O2 and carriers that use O2 like sky and gifgaf use band 20 for 4G, so sorry any mast that uses band 20, you're on 3G or 5G. Some local area masts for O2 do use other bands for 4G but most are on it. Three, Voda and EE are fine.
I've had my ultra since launch and to be honest as everyone is using 4G and not 3G, the 3G data throughput I get is superb, so not really missing it. My second sim is EE for work, 4G is not an issue.
My advice, put it in SIM 1 use default settings.
Ahhh. Many thanks that, and for many of the other posts you have made here which have helped me out no end. So now I need to look for an alternative to GiffGaff (which has been great as I work offshore, so only need data every other month....).
Seems I must be super unlucky to have picked the Ultra then (and my previous Poco F1 does has band 20...)! But so far finding it a great phone. I thought I saw you post somewhere about loading up the Chinese camera version, but cannot seem to find that post now....
No, not me with the China camera I'm afraid. The EU ROM uses the same camera app as stock, a different app would just not be practical to make when the EU ROMs are all based on the stock released versions. So if there are any changes in the stock app, it will be the same in the EU app. You can download the Gcam downloader from playstore and it links to a Xiaomi friendly gcam version.
I know EE works fine for sure on the Ultra as I've got it in SIM 2, no problems with 4G as it doesn't use band 20 for its 4G, if it helps. I'm sure there must a a cheap offer for someone using EEs infrastructure.
Not sure where I got that info then, but what you say makes sense. That said, I'm still bemused why there is the 108MP option in the stock app (and what does it do if you click it...). I installed the Nikita GCam and XML, but unusually am not seeing any great uplift from what I am taking. However, I would like to totally disable any beautify in the stock app, but not found a way to do that yet...
I found EE Flex which has the ability to pause the plan, but nothing else so far that compares to GiffGaff as in only paying for a single months bundle....
I did see 1pmobile on EE, but think that could get expensive on data...

Although 1pmobile uses the EE network, 4G speed is capped at 20 mb/s so you should bear this in mind. The other option on PAYG is Asda mobile which also piggy backs off EE network.
A cost effective option is to use an EE preloaded 24gb data sim which lasts for a year as a second sim for the times you can't get a decent signal with your other sim.
I use Three network and have had no issues in my area (NE UK) getting 4G+ (50 mb/s) and occasionally can get 5G (180 mb/s download speed)
It doesn't look like you can get the EE preloaded 24gb data now... when I search and click, it takes me to a page where they now offer 30 & 90 day data sims... Asda Mobile looks promising though as an alternative to GiffGaff. Certainly looks like it is a true 30 day bundle (and not a reoccurring one)...

DNs changes will definitely affect some websites, I have VPN on all the time and haven't experienced any issues ( i don't use the one offered for Google as it stopped working for some reason and either way it's not the best pot there. Also check adaptive connectivity options as that will make your connection wonky. I don't use root or any mods on my device so it's.fully stock.

There is definitely something wrong with the latest January releases. Both the stock version and the beta releases (on my device) drop downloads repeatedly. Also my device keeps losing connection and switching from 5G to 4G to LTE in the same location. Maybe on the Pixel 8 Google will finally go back to Qualcomm antennas.

Not gonna happen.
I haven't had a single issue since switching to LTE only (5g is spotty in my area anyways). I think the radio gets stuck searching and switching between the 2 sometimes. I noticed it most when inside buildings and this has completely solved my issue. Even in rural areas, it has remained consistent. I would recommend just using LTE and see if that has any effect.
Edit-I know you stated it wasn't cellular related and I thought mine wasn't either, but this worked for me for whatever reason.
I happen to live in an area where 5G is good on Mint (T-Mobile). I always get a solid 5G UC.
But I find that 5G is NOT all that different than LTE in real world day-to-day use. In fact I doubt that anyone could see any difference at all unless they were using an app to actually measure any difference. SO if you live in a spotty area for 5G then by all means just turn it off (it's great that we can turn it off) and stick with LTE and be happy!

Agreed, and I also work out in rural areas often, where 5G is spotty, so I just keep mine set to 4g Preferred
I've had similar connection problems but it was location specific. I live in Phoenix, AZ where my signal and connection were great with no issues on TMobile. When I visited family in Austin, TX I would get constant problems. Often I would lose signal and never get it back and would either restart my phone or just in and out of airplane mode and everything temporarily works again.
