I have my new phone for two days, but didn't manage to figure out how to properly configure the notification settings.
I'm used to get a tone or vibration if a new message comes in. This phone also notifies me if an notification changes. If I play music through Spotify e. g., the phone vibrates when playing the next song. This gets annoying quickly, when a message with progress information is displayed and I get notified for every change in percentage (updating, downloading stuff, etc.).
Is there an option to disable this behavior (but still get notified for new messages)?
Is there an option to entirely disable notification tones while the display is on?
Thanks
mk
You have very granular control over your notifications. Long press the notification in the pulldown menu, then you can set it to be 'Other'. Additionally, you can can navigate from there to the deeper notification settings to turn off sound/vibrate/etc.
The per app setting is working great, but is there maybe a more global option I'm not seeing?
And is there an option to ignore changes of the content (e.g. ignore the progress change of 1% to 2%)?
The option controlling the vibration if a new message comes in seems to be a subsetting of the accessibility settings rather than the normal tone & vibration settings. I had this option enabled and my phone ignored the per app vibration setting. When disabled, it never vibrates on new messages.
The solution seems to be to disable and re enable this setting. Now my phone behaves normal and doesn't ignore the per app settings.
Mentioned accessibility setting (2nd from top):

Here's the problem:
Using stock lollipop 5.1.1 I have only 3 contacts who are starred in the contact list which I wish to receive notifications or calls from. All other notifications or calls I wish to ignore between 22:00hrs and 9:00. So I go to "sound and notifications" then "do not disturb" set up the sliders to allow "events and reminders , calls, messages" from "favourite contacts only". Set the days and the slider to "allow exceptions".
Now, when it gets to 22:00hrs a circle with a line appears in the notification bar. However I do not recieve notifications from any starred contacts. Shouldn't the scheduled "do not disturb" allow calls/messages from starred contacts as I have already set?
I have unstarred and restarred the contacts. Disabled "do not disturb" and re-enabled it. I have even factory reset the phone, but a scheduled do "do not disturb" (with exceptions etc) still prevents notifications from starred contacts. Is it broken or am I totally getting how to use it wrong?
I'm of the impression it should show a star in the notification bar instead of the circle and line. After all what's the point of exceptions if they aren't used?
If I manually use the volume key and switch on do not disturb and slide allow exceptions it works fine. Can someone test theirs and let me know?

I've attached pictures (but altered the time as its already past 9am). As you can see, I've set the exceptions and other sliders. Note the circle with a line instead of a star)

How do I permanently get rid of this uninformative and really annoying notification that is cluttering my notification bar??
I keep swiping it away but it always comes back.

I have tried everything I can to get rid of this permanently and I cannot figure it out. If you go into the notification settings I have everything for this plug-in turned OFF but it still displays which makes no sense. As well you can now mute the notification for up to 2 hours under Oreo but yet you can't actually permanently shut it off not that I have seen. But the fact that you can shut it off for 2 hours tells me you can shut it off forever but maybe you have to be rooted.
U can swipe the notification to the left and tap on the gear icon. From there you can turn off the "allow notification" and its gone. As for "drawing over other app" notification you cant turn it off unless you use third party app from play store. I use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.easy4u.ncleaner and it works
I solved it!
Get the free app AutoNotification and set it up to block this lame notification. Wait until it shows up and then use the app to setup a block and pick the annoying notification and.. bye bye!

There's no option to turn it off. However there's an option for app badge but that's not the one.

Two questions regarding "turn on screen for notifications" functionality on stock firmware OOS 11.0.8.12.KB05BA
In setting Display - Ambient display there is a 'New notifications' option, this option works only with Horizon Light
Is there a possibility to wake screen for notifications, but without color stripes on the sides?
Using search in settings you can find 'Wake screen for notifications' option.
Even if 'Ambient display' in setting is OFF, 'Wake screen for notifications' option can be turned ON, but screen doesn't wakes for new notifications.
Is it "an old" menu option that developers forgot to delete or am I missing some options to make it work?
My goal is to find a way to turn screen on for new notifications without fancy Horizon Light effects.
I'm using an app called Wake Up Screen and it works perfectly for me.

thank for your suggestion
for now I've decided to stick with aodNotify
it doesn't wake up the screen, but does a much better job (in my case) - emulates LED-light that I was missing so much
at first, while setting up this app, it's on top in statistic draining battery, but the next day it disappears from the list
My previous Note20 Ultra was able to turn off vibration completely whenever I receive notification by sliding vibration intensity to left. Now in A52 4G I still got vibration.

Need to go to every app settings by press and hold the icon then tap "i" then notifications there you can tap the word default or other there will be a new settings will pop up and you can disable vibrate from there.
My 10+ never vibrates, been over year since I did it but this how you start. The settings search feature is sweet... sometimes.
Settings>search>vibration

Yeah that was for Pie, in Q and above who knows what it mutated into... they made some radical and inept changes
Basically you play and explore Androids to learn how to use them... it's fun. They're almost impossible to crash.
Oops my wrong, so the vibration intensity setting now only affects touch interaction, not notification. Gotta dedicate my time for setting all my app vibration
On my Samsung phone running on Android 12, I clicked on Reset Notification Importance (inside Developer Options) to see what happens:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

}
Now, the order of notifications have changed. In fact, it is completely messed up. Some of the Silent Notifications are showing on top, while newer (alert) notifications are showing in between or at bottom. Silent Notifications (and persistent notifications) are supposed to appear BELOW Alert Notifications, towards the bottom. I didn't find a setting that changes the notification priority.
How I want it to be:
The Notification Shortcuts bar should be on top, and all new notifications must come right below it. All persistent notifications must keep moving down as new notifications come through.
But this is how it is at the moment:
It is a jumbled mess.
How do I change the notification priority (or importance) for apps? I want to minimize the notification importance for all (or most) apps with a persistent notification.
This has been like this for well over a month now. I have rebooted my phone a few times over this period too.
Anyone knows how to fix this?
Glad to report that I have solved the problem by identifying the culprit. I have been living with this problem for over 5 months. This setting in QuickStar (Good Lock module) is the culprit:
I had enabled that setting earlier. Disabling it resolved the notification priority (all persistent/ silent notifications now sit below Alert notifications).
