When it is done building the machine you need to click on settings and enable root.
Spoiler: HOW TO CLEAN THE PREINSTALLED MACHINE WITH AN APP (NOT RECOMMENDED)
This method is advised against, due to the amount of time it takes to physically remove each directory within the gui, when we could remove all of these directories with a simple script. The knowledge will still be provided to show what the adb method is doing for us.
Open Nox and install a launcher app like nova, and a root explorer by selecting the apk button on the right side panel.

If you need the apps:
Nova
nova.apk
drive.google.com
Root Explorer
RootExplorer.apk
drive.google.com
Now open Nox's settings by clicking on the gear icon at the top right.
We need to go into General, and then put a check on root.

Next click on the Gaming tab and enable high fps and rendering cache. This is to allow you to be able to play higher end mobile games
Spoiler: PIC
Save settings and restart the machine
Select Nova as the Launcher app always

Open root explorer. Grant Superuser access forever
Delete all the items highlighted in the pictures below and close the machine.

Open BareNox and then bin, run MultiplayerManager.exe and add new emulator of choice
The first time you make a machine, nox will have to dl the "base" of the android version you selected from nox's servers. You only have to do this the first time you try to create an android 9 or 7 machine. You will then be able to create clones quickly as the BareNox folder will now contain the base disk and data folder.
Make sure to click on the gear icon and enable Root in system settings before running the machine
Run the remove.bat script when this lady appears on your new machine (this is when you have full read write access)
This will go through and remove the crap apps and install nova launcher for us

Go into the Binary folder of Nox or Not Nox and add a new text file called remove, paste NOVA.APK into this folder as well
Paste the contents of the script into the remove file
change the file extension from txt to .bat by renaming the file
add a new emulator and wait for it to make it to this screen, you need to hit Login later in order to get full Root, otherwise our batch will fail.
Run the remove.bat file after hitting Login Later and waiting for the garena lady to appear
this is what will be shown as the batch runs, don't do anything the machine will reset itself
select nova always and you're all set!

edit I am working on a fix
This issue has now been fixed
@HoangNK I apologize, I didn't mean to dismiss your VT error, I sincerely thought it was due to that mode not being enabled on the user end.
I now realize, after reinstalling windows on my laptop which has vt enabled, that I did indeed create this error. I didn't realize it at the time due to sharding, as I had nox installed in the main directory as well as the portable, so I didn't notice the problem.
I have rebuilt and verified BareNox, here's the new dl link:

For anyone Still experiencing the "VT Error" check your Windows Features settings. I unintentionally caused this error to myself while playing with WSL. Open up windows Features and uncheck these options, then reset

Something to consider about Emulators, they can be used to program virtual machines that have windows preinstalled faster usually than on your android device. Then you could pull your machine from the emulator and port over to any android device. I'm working on a detailed guide but it will take some time as I work to make the virtual machine's parameters more feasable for work use, i.e. a 10gb max hdd is not gonna suffice~!

forum.xda-developers.com
A note to anyone checking this out from this date forward, Nox has had an update since I wrote the script. So when barenox downloads the android image from nox's server, they are different than before. Meaning that Even though one selects ROOT on startup, the ADB will not recognize the READ WRITE status thus rendering the .REMOVE.bat script useless for the time being. The adb root command does not help, I didn't bother to su into the shell bc the time factor, I could just delete in root explorer
A TLDR use the manual removal method with root explorer and manually install nova as the original thread shows how to do if you want to remove the crapware.
I'm not going to update the script, instead I am going to stop being lazy and just make my own emulators in android studio and share some builds in another thread. I'll leave a comment below whenever that happens.
Listen Linda.
I found an Amazing OS that I am trying to work out a few kinks for. It runs in vmware, has root, can play the games, has a traditional desktop feel, can run multiple apps in separate windows.
It's called prime os! I am not a creator. Just a testing a producto~!
I will make a new thread with prebuilt images of this and like 5 other prebuilt android x86_64/ chrome os forked os's that I played with this week. Putting out the word about prime in case anyone has any ideas how to get openvmtools or vmware tools to work on here. I am trying to build a stack in termux to accomplish this myself, key word trying. Maybe someone knows how.
other os's tested and built -- may add more if I find them

Spoiler: notes
as an Edit ---I am well aware that the tools are not "officially supported" so lets make them work anyway ok
This is 12 years old but still relevant
'As an update, I was able to locate the vmware tools iso for pre glibc linux distros (like our android vms) It comes with vmware workstation 17
had to pkg install tsu then run this command and am a step closer
I went through and pointed the script to the requested binary's location /system/bin/more and the others all for the most part in bin with depmod being in xbin. the program seemed to have an error at the end. going to take all the requested binaries out from system now and add them to the vmtools folder
using root explorer can copy the binaries from bin into the vmtools folder
So here's my notes on getting vmware tools to work in the android emulator.
In vmware tools on your windows pc there are isos that contain the tools.
Inside the iso is a file like this. extract it and extract the file it makes
So here is what I did, You can see the tools have an etc folder and a bin folder. and in pictures in the notes comment above, we know that the tools need certain binaries to run, or access to.
It is not just enough to point the tools to the /system/bin/binaryname because the stock binaries aren't executable.
So I obtained all the binaries the code calls for and put them into the bin folder of the tools.
I also built the missing directories such as /var/log
i changed the name of install-vmwaretools.pl to run.pl and added mkdir codes for the needed folders
Now running perl run.pl gives this interesting error
Anyone have any ideas?
It also really Did create that many folders, haha
hey there.. is there still possible to use your script to use older version of noxplayer and make that work? i get it that no more noxplayer updates will be compatible. but, that is just perfect for me.
i used noxplayer every day since 2016 and run 12 instances. it was and still is Ver. 3.8.3.1
but google as of last month has now removed games that is no longer supported by the google play.. so no more game updates for me. so i have no other choice to upgrade too.. i had off course followed guides and hacked it.. so no adds what so ever.. so hoping that you can still your very useful software to get rid of ads and malwares that they usually bring to free version.
thank you
@noxlar2 anything is possible, however i would need a copy of the version you want to fix to be able to advise better. as far as the current version i will for sure look at fixing the script for it tomorrow. kinda got super carried away on other projects and should take the time
@jenneh
wow.. fast reply back. well, just buildt me a new pc.. so, it will be with a fresh win11 and fresh noxplayer.. so i have no idea what version i must choose.. i will have my old pc system untouched in case of fall back on nox.p.. reason i always used the version i did was because of superior stability vs recent (back then + few years forwards)
also i did test latest free version on my minipc.. and it worked great as well. but, i have not done extensive testing so i don't know.
@noxlar2 Hey Congratulations on your new PC! That's always an amazing feeling. Thank you for clarifying which version. I was able to successfully get the script working again on the Latest nox and Lol it was silly, all the script needed was "adb root" added to the top.
i had to do the VT-Error fix bc of playing with WSA
got the original barenox updated -- link in the op and HERE Just remember to select root in settings before running the machine or the script wont work

This all started out as an experiment to get my nandroid system.img file running in the adb emulator. Well sadly I haven't been able to do that (yet) but I have found something useful. I've Seen several people all over asking how to get a working marketplace app in 2.2 on the adb emulator. After a lot of researching (and trial and error) I've managed to get one. Here are the steps I've taken. (Steps 5 and 6 optional, you can just use the included build.prop if you prefer)
1) Create an avd running 2.2 (froyo,plenty of places explain how to do this so I won't)
2) Download the file (attached below, root files included)
3) Unzip to a location that's easy to remember and find.
4) Load your emulated phone (allow it to load fully)
5) enter this command in a command prompt/terminal window (make sure you "cd" to the directory where you extracted the files)
Code:
adb pull /system/build.prop
6) Remove or comment "ro.config.nocheckin=yes" (no quotes, might be able to just change it to "no" but I haven't tried it that way)
7) enter these commands
Winblows (I mean windows)
Code:
adb remount
adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
adb install GoogleServicesFramework.apk
adb install Vending.apk
adb install Gmail.apk (optional but sometimes signing in here lets the market sign in)
adb shell rm /system/app/SdkSetup.apk
Linux
Code:
adb remount
adb push ./build.prop /system/build.prop
adb install ./GoogleServicesFramework.apk
adb install ./Vending.apk
adb install ./Gmail.apk
adb shell rm /system/app/SdkSetup.apk
8) Sign in. If it works you're done if not reboot and try again, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 reboots to set. If your emulated phone has a data signal from your computer (you'll see a 3G and network icon in the notification area) just wait for it to sign in. The cancel button should grey out within a minute. If it says it can't connect restart the emulator and try again, be patient.
There is a known bug that not all apps show up in the marketplace. I'm not sure why so if someone here knows how to fix that by all means leave a post and let me know. If I see it I'll add it to the first post (provided it works of course )
Edit: Working on getting root on the emulator (just for the hell of it). So far I have su in the xbin directory and superuser.apk installed. Not 100% sure what else I need to do to get the su requests to go through though, I'll probably PM a more experienced member and post back when I have more. Got root? I do (got it working.) Here are the steps you need to take.
Rooting the standard android image on the emulator
1) Open a command prompt (cd to the directoy where you extracted the files)
2) enter these commands
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock03 /system
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 06755 /system
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
adb install superuser.apk
That's it! You now have a rooted, market-enabled android emulator.
New! N00b-friendly method
1) create your avd
2) download the emulator files archive attached to this post
3) extract somewhere easy to find
4) open command prompt/terminal and cd to the extracted location
5) start your avd
6) Run your script (windows.bat or linux.sh)
7) sign into market and enjoy root!
Note:
You may have to chmod su again upon restarting the emulator.
To get root back simply run the re-root script for your OS (bat for windows,sh for linux)
To install busybox simply run the re-root script, it will automatically install if you're using the script to install on a new avd.

Thank you the root resets after reboot, working on making it stick but its not hard to do it again, just start with the "-wipe-data" command and redo the root, market works after reboot though. Still working on getting a dumped system.img to boot, ill post that in its own thread when i get it. Glad you like this.

Edit: see first post on how to get root back,no data-wipe!
so cool!! Good job man!
Thanks ^_^ let me know if you find any problems that I haven't already mentioned and I'll see if I can fix them or if they're just an emulator quirk.
Sorry for the double post but I wanted to let you all know busybox is now included! Installation can be performed through scripts (included in the "Emulator Files.rar" archive) or manually. If you wish to do it manually simply open the script in a text editor to see what's going on and enter the commands in a command prompt/terminal window.
I'm not able to make this work, not with a toolkit downloaded yesterday anyway.
Pulling of build.prop works, but pushing fails with a directory related error.
"adb shell" followed by "cd /system" and "ls -l" gives a list of files that does not include build.prop, neither as a file nor as a directory.
"ls -l build.prop" works though, and lists a file with 0644 permissions.
Install of all apks different from Gmail fails, with an error that says that those apks are already installed. Uninstalling them through adb doesn't work, netting instead a simple generic error.
Does anyone know whether I'm doing something wrong or Google has modified the emulator images so to render the Market workaround unusable? If so, where could I download an earlier version of the 2.2 system image?
Many thanks
Rocco
I actually had this issue as well. Try re-making the avd, worked for me. You could also try running the scripts to install, might work. If it doesnt post back and ill post the system.img from my sdk.

I have the same problem as ropi. Remade the avd several times with different properties, still no go.
I would really appreciate it if someone could upload a fully set-up avd somewhere.
I'll try again late this afternoon (I'm on CEST). Hope it works. If not, I'd be happy too if some kind soul would upload a link to a working avd
Thanks for the kind help
Rocco
I have no idea why people are having so many problems :/. I had the problem and once I remade the avd it went away. Try starting with the -partition-size 96 option and see if that helps. If not here are the files, just extract to your avd directory, it has the ini and img files you need and it's already setup. Just run re-root to get root back and sign into market and you're good to go.
http://hotfile.com/dl/79959332/3efbade/froyo-avd.rar.html
Edit: I just downloaded the latest revision and everything seems to be working fine :/ As I've said before try starting with -partition-size 96 and also try using the scripts I've provided. That should fix the issues, but if it doesn't there's always the hotfile link I've provided (or if you're just lazy lol)
Edit 2: also,just thought of this, make sure before you push the build.prop you adb remount. Pulling will work fine without doing that but pushing won't. No one said if they had done this and still received the errors so I'm trying to cover all bases. If remount fails try the adb shell mount command posted on the first page.
Thanks dbzfanatic, that avd worked great.
Glad it worked for ya. Let us know how everything works.

A lot of apps can not be found in the Market ... I cannot find Lookout....
Yeah, I've mentioned that,firs post. It's a known bug. Nothing I can do to fix it at the moment. You could download the apk on your phone then pull it then install it in the emulator. Bit of a roundabout way of doing things but it's all we can do on the emulator for the time being, at least from what I know.
Ok after a bit of poking around (sorry it took so long) I found out a bit about the market. It seems it's not just your region that it uses to show apps but things like your carrier, presence/absence of a SIM card, Android version, etc. It uses the filters to choose which apps to show and which to exclude (not showing an American user Japanese apps, not showing someone on Verizon T-Mobile apps, etc) so this explains part of the problem. I also found out that the SIM card and IMEI numbers were(are?) hard-coded into the emulator binary, changing these may allow us to see a few more apps. I looked through the binary file a bit and didn't find anything but I'll look more closely in a bit (new job, yay <- read as "groan"). I don't know how to emulate or spoof a carrier so that will still cut us back on some of the apps being seen. If anyone knows how to do this please post here and let us know! It would also be beneficial if a user who has already modified their IMEI and SIM numbers in the emulator to compare the apps list to the one you see in the standard, non-modded emulator binary and let us know if there is a difference or not. The more apps we can see in the marketplace the better!
Just wanted to confirm that I've tried Market Enabler a few days ago and it doesn't seem to work.
Alright thanks for the feedback. Ill keep working on it.

Despite several tries, I've so far been unsuccessful in using this method to install the marketplace on a 2.2 avd. Many thanks for having provided ready-made avds, then!
I've been able to install marketplace on the Galaxy Tab images provided by Samsung, though!
Keep up the good work
Hi guys, i tried to root Bluestacks Apps Player Beta for Mac OS X on Windows by using a method similar to the one used to root BS for Windows.
But unfortunately i am not able to test the modded files as i do not actually own a Mac OS X device, and i am not familiar with the OS either.
So i am asking, any volunteer here willing to help me test this experimental modded files?
How to use
1) Download BlueStacks AppPlayer Beta .dmg for Mac OS X & install it.
2) Download modded files provided below, make sure the targeted version is same as your installed version.
3) Extract the downloaded zip and use the modded files to replace the following folders:
Code:

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.
Without SuperSU working properly, terminal is running as app user thus you will not be able to view contents of /data/ as the folder is owned by 'system'.
Not sure why SuperSU is not working. Anyway, I have updated the files to use Superuser 3.2 instead of SuperSU, now with the updated files,
Superuser can be uninstalled easily, and if the superuser still causing problem, try uninstall it & run su without the apk installed.
Appreciate if you can retry the new file & also provide me the output for 'mount'. Thank you.

why does xda resize the pictures so small?

Re: [Emulator][BlueStacks Beta for Mac] Getting root access - Testers wanted
Would love to try this, codelover, but am wondering if you are testing in your own environment first, or are you expecting us to QA it? Don't get me wrong... I really appreciate you taking the lead on this, I just need to understand what my effort and interest level need to be. Thanks.

I cleared data and then it seemed to stay open, so that I can go through the settings.
here's the result of su (still Segmentation fault)

Thanks! Now i know that /system can be mounted rw, one step forward. Next step is to find a working copy of su then we are done.
Can you confirm the Segmentation fault still appear after the apk been removed/uninstalled? One more thing, can you test run su after cd to /sdcard?
Just checked the alpha root by @bitstra, looks like they faced the same problem with superuser apk, so they have su working alone without the apk, maybe i will get you a copy of the su to test.
Btw do you have adb for Mac? Might need it to push su to BS for testing.

Hi meatlocker, Thank you for your interest. The answer is no, i have no chance to test it because i do not actually own a Mac.
But i have been working with BS for Windows for months that i am pretty sure Mac version can be rooted too.
I am just trying to help, it's really up to Mac users effort if they really want to see it get rooted.
The more feedback the faster it can be done. If i got a Mac that would be easier since i got several test cases that i can run on my own.
For now, everything is based on my assumption.

yup, I've got adb installed and it see bluestacks, haven't tried to run any commands or anything
still get the Segmentation Fault and never get a typical su request popup for any app.
uninstalled superuser.
tried su in terminal, still Segmentation fault
installed SuperSu from play store
same results... app didn't run very well... tried to update itself and failed.
uninstalled
installed superuser (3.1.3?) from the Play store
took some screenshots (looked kinda hopeful?)
still same errors in terminal, no access to /data

You cannot install Superuser/SuperSU directly from market because it will install an arm version of the binary instead of the x86 that we need.
Now we need to identify which su binary version works with BS for Mac.
Please download the attached su-test.zip that contains various versions of su, extract to adb folder and then run the following commands:
Code:
adb push su-test /data/local/tmp/
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/su*
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-3.1-x86 -v
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-3.1.1-x86 -v
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-3.2-x86 -v
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-bin-3.1 -v
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-1.25 -v
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su.x86 -v
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su.orig -v
* Also try to run above su without -v
We are expecting su to returns a version number or 'permission denied' message from a working copy, instead of segmentation fault.
Please let me know which version works. I think we can finalize this soon. Thank you again.
Re: [Emulator][BlueStacks Beta for Mac] Getting root access - Testers wanted
Also, how can we get into the contents of the Android disk image files on a Mac to extract android files, etc?
And how much space do we have in the simulated Android to install apps?
Code:
adb push su-test /data/local/tmp/
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/su*
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-3.1-x86 -v
[COLOR="Red"]returned 3.1[/COLOR]
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-3.1.1-x86 -v
[COLOR="red"]returned Segmentation fault[/COLOR]
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-3.2-x86 -v
[COLOR="red"]returned Segmentation fault[/COLOR]
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-bin-3.1 -v

adb shell /data/local/tmp/su-1.25 -v

adb shell /data/local/tmp/su.x86 -v

adb shell /data/local/tmp/su.orig -v

Definately a good news! I will try to rebuild Root.sparsefs to include both working copies of su-3.1 & su.orig.
But if i am not mistaken su.orig only works alone thus not supporting Superuser apk for confirmation.
EDIT: Files updated, download HERE.
CHANGES: Using su.orig copy without any Superuser apk.
NOTE: Might need to replace all new .sparsefs files instead of just Root.sparsefs.
Kinda weird as all su in su-test can run in BS for Windows except su.orig that returned Seg. fault.
Anyway, hope to hear some good news soon.
I replaced the files and kill Bluestacks, then I re-open Bluestacks .... NOTHING HAPPENED, my data and apps still there, and NO ROOT. Why?

1) Make sure you are using the required version, as these rooted files only works for v0.3.6.102.
2) Once you have replaced Data & SDCard, non of your existing apps should remain; If the apps still there you probably did it wrong.
3) Make sure you close your Bluestacks before replacing those files.
* Please note that the 'rooted files' mentioned above are 4 folders that contains 2 files in each folder.

Have you tried executing 'su' from adb instead of Terminal?
I am not sure how the included su.orig from alpha should behave as i got segfault here on Windows.
Unlike the newer SuperSU that works without apk, the su-3.1-x86 that worked for you during the test needs superuser apk,
but non of the apks i tested here work with that binary (All hung), kinda weird, until we have a working su+apk, other apps cannot gain root.
So i was thinking maybe we should try other superuser app, like the opensource ClockworkMod Superuser since it support x86 too.
Please download the attached su to test, let's see whether this one still causing segfault or not.
Code:
adb push su /data/local/tmp/
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/su
adb shell /data/local/tmp/su -v
As usual, we are expecting su to return some version info.
As i don't think it's a good idea to keep asking you to download & test a new 100M file for something unsure, i provide you an alternative:
By replacing with this modded initrd.img (~/Library/BlueStacks App Player/AppBundle/Contents/Android/initrd.img), if this work (hopefully), it will:
- Create the following public accessible folder if not exists: /data/root
- Create the following test files: /data/root/test
- Change ownership, group & permissions needed for su for all files found inside /data/root/ on every boot.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Once replaced initrd.img, reboot and if you see a new file /data/root/test and it's owned by root then you can proceed to the below tests, otherwise useless.
Code:
1) Install ClockworkMod [URL="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.superuser"]Superuser[/URL] or download [URL="http://download.clockworkmod.com/apks/Superuser.apk"]here[/URL].
2) adb push su /data/root/su
3) Restart Bluestacks to get the permissions needed by su.
4) Open terminal & type the following command: /data/root/su # Should get a prompt
* Note that you will be asked to update su binary but you won't be able to do so at the moment. leave that first.
If non of the above work i guess the only option is to test all su binaries and apks, which is very time-consuming.
But i guess i am to giving up instead as it's too hard for me to debug without actually owning a Mac to test it.

did all that. /data/root exists and seems writable (though trying to do an ls in /data still gives me permission denied)
but /data/root/su still gave me segmentation fault...
which version was that? Which versions did we get to give us a version number the other day?

It was su-3.1-x86 that i got it from here but the site is down at the moment. You can still find the binary on my previous post, inside su-test.zip.
With that version i managed to get root with adb, but without a working apk you cannot gain root from other apps since it was designed to act like that.
But what makes me wonder is that the su.orig that worked without apk (anyone confirm?) on alpha supposed to work on this beta too.
Now that /data/root/ is working as expected, it's so much easier for you to test the binaries, just push to /data/root/ and reboot to get the required permissions.

/data/root/ may be working as expected, but there still seems to be a "su" in the path somewhere, whose permissions are denied. Will that cause problems
I put the 3.1 file from the su-test folder into /data/root, restarted bluestacks, and then went to terminal, I've attached a screenshot of those results, including calling just "su" to note the difference
Maybe if I had a better handle on what we wanted all the permissions to be and where we wanted this executable su to be, and what su an app/apk like superuser tries to use, I could help more.
Current rooted version: 0.8.3.3026
!!!UPDATE 07DEC13!!! -> With SuperSU v1.80!
Here are the rewritable rooted filesystem-files for BlueStacks. Easy if you want to install BlueStacks for development reasons and don't want to go through the trouble of rooting it yourself.
I'll try to keep it updated as they make their updates, but since they don't really announce them, forgive me if I skip some. :silly:
It's also allowed to point me out there's a new version, I'll probably get to it faster that way.
Anyway,
Usage:
Install BlueStacks
Quit Bluestacks completely.
- (By clicking on their tray icon and selecting Quit, or by running the HD-Quit.exe)
Go to your BlueStacks-ProgramData directory
- (In Windows Vista and up it's: x:\ProgramData\BlueStacks)
- (In Windows XP it'll be: x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BlueStacks)
Unpack and replace Root.fs and initrd.img with the 2 files in this 7zip
Restart BlueStacks
If "Installer" asks root access, give it root access... ;p
Done!

Then, for the noobs that just can't get it working and the limitless downloaders who just don't look at filesize, next, I give you the full 'Android' directory! 7zipped while not running, these files are a certainty that all should work, because they come with /system and /data together and are meant to replace your own. All your own apps and settings (not your backupz to SD) will have gone after doing the following, so it's only recommended when you're planning to start anew anyway or when you just can't get the root into it for some reason... Or maybe you planned ahaed and backed everything up anyway... ;p These files are certain to give you not only SuperSU-root access, but also a Play Store ready to use and as a bonus a full Debian Linux (Jessie) installed underneath it. (This is why it's so much bigger. ;p)
A little info on the linux:
Debian's root password is set to "bluestacks", and it's also the password for the "BlueStacks" user. You can change these without any problems. You can also just enter Debian Linux by opening the installed Terminal. I already preset it to do this. I also used the none standard Terminal app so you can use the normal one for your own purpouses without constantly fiddling and swapping with it's settings. ;p
So, just kill BlueStacks completely and swap the contents of this 7z with the contents of your ProgData-BlueStacks-Android dir (except for the missing sdcard.sparsefs, of course).
It should be located here:
- For XP: x:\documents and settings\all users\application data\BlueStacks\Android
- For Vista, 7, 8,...: x:\programdata\BlueStacks\Android
(x marks the drive your windows is installed on. )
And restart BlueStacks.

And btw, if you want to try it yourself, I always write down my steps taken, so here they are:
Rooting BlueStacks as I did it:
For this you will need the following programs:
BlueStacks (of course)
IOBit Uninstaller
7zip
Notepad++
Portable Ubuntu
I used Windows XP x86, but I added the info for higher windows versions and x64 windows versions as well)
x marks the drive your windows is installed on.
Winkey-R (Run) "%programfiles%\BlueStacks\HD-Quit.exe" (or "%Programfiles(x86)%\BlueStacks\HD-Quit.exe" for x64);
Kill HD-LogRotatorService.exe in Task Manager;
I used IOBit Uninstaller because I hate waiting on the Windows internal one and it does a lot more stuff we need done.
(If you want it and haven't already, get IOBit Uninstaller here!);
Uninstall BlueStacks with IOBit Uninstaller;
Choose to scan for remaining stuff and delete all of the findings;
Uninstall BlueStacks Notification Center
When it asks to keep all data and userfiles, say no;
Delete x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BlueStacksSetup (or x:\ProgramData\BlueStacksSetup in Vista or higher)
('BlueStacks' dir has been removed by clicking 'yes' in uninstall, if not, remove it as well);
If you can't delete hyperviser.log, you'll have to reboot first, then delete the BlueStacks folder before you'll be able to continue.
Re-install BlueStacks
(If you haven't already, get BlueStacks here!);
Download "busybox-i686" from this site and rename it to "busybox";
Download SuperSU in flash zip format from this site.
Inside this zip is more then just SuperSU. Unzip these files to "c:\pubuntu":
(out of zipped directory "/common"
- "Superuser.apk";
- "install-recovery.sh";
- "99SuperSUDaemon";
(out of zipped directory "/x86"
- "su";
Open Superuser.apk with 7zip, extract the files "/assets/chattr.x86.png" and "/assets/supersu.x86.png to any temporary directory, rename the files to "chattr.arm.png" and "supersu.arm.png", re-insert them (by dragging them back to the still open 7zip) and replace the other 2 png-files.
(If you haven't already, get 7zip here!);
Close 7zip and save;
Open x:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BlueStacks (or x:\ProgramData\BlueStacks in Vista or higher);
Open "initrd.img" with 7zip;
Unpack "initrd" to any temporary dir;
Open "initrd" with Notepad++
(If you haven't already, get Notepad++ here!);
Search for " ro " (including the spaces, not the quotationmarks)
There should be two results, change the first to " rw "
- Hint: It's not the one which starts with "Option: ro (read-only",
It's the one that resembles 'try_mount ro $1 /mnt && [ -e /mnt/$SRC/ramdisk.img ]'. ;P;
Save "initrd" and close Notepad++;
Drag it back into the 7zip application where "initrd.img" is still open and overwrite existing "initrd";
Close 7zip;
Then you'll need Portable Ubuntu
(If you haven't already, get Portable Ubuntu here!);
NOTE: Portable Ubuntu does not work on x64 Windows, so if you're not running an x86 Windows, you'll need to use a Linux box or vm (with shared folders) here instead.
- If you have Windows installed on any other drive than C, do the following, if it's installed in C, skip this:
- Open Ubuntu Portable folder;
- Go to the "config" subfolder;
- Edit the file "portable_ubuntu.conf";
- Under the line: "shared_folder0=c:\" add "shared_folder1=x:\" (where x is still the drive your windows is on);
- Save "portable_ubuntu.conf" and exit Notepad++;
Open Portable Ubuntu;
Open the terminal window once it's fully loaded;
Do the following in the exact order:
Code:
sudo su
(pubuntu's password is '123456')
mkdir /n
mkdir /n/rootfs
mkdir /n/sfs
mkdir /n/img

Shutdown Portable Ubuntu;
Boot BlueStacks;
Install custom launcher like ADW, Go or Apex (Superuser app does not show up in BlueStacks' Launcher);
Install Root Explorer;
Move custom launcher from "/data/app" to "/system/app";
Reboot BlueStacks;
You can now safely remove apps like "Launcher2.apk" and "new_Home.apk" and other original launcher related stuff.

Can you explain the steps to root my version manually instead of downloading a 500mb file, if not possible then can you please provide a mirror since Adrive gives Public File Busy error all the time to me?
Thanks
Edit:
Never mind, ignore it. Got it now. Although it's better if you could provide mirrors for others as Adrive is giving problems. I had to download using a premium downloader.

Still want instructions, then?
Cause I wrote down the steps I took, so I could easily paste them here (and adapt them a little for others to read, of course. ).

Sure go ahead if you already wrote them down. It will be useful since it's a separate thread then your other post where you put these download links. The only thing messing up my plans right now is to download that portable linux for 1+gb file so for now I have downloaded your files and they work great, I will make them manually next time when there will be a new bluestack update.
Thanks

New Version
Version 0.8.2.3018 is out.
I accepted the update & Root Checker Pro says I still have root.
SuperSU updated
SuperSU just updated a few hours ago. Problems to update the apk. Could someone please update Root.fs and initrd.img with the new superSU apk.
Thank you
0.8.2.3018 updates and root is still there except the root apk is gone as the Root.fs has been replaced.

I'll be adding my new Root.fs here later today. Just got back from a few days trip, and first of all I need some sleep, but when I wake, I'll get right to it.

If possible could the root files be compressed before theyre uploaded by any chance in .7z? it would half the download size from 500MB to around 256MB, im sure the many with sucky internet speeds would appreciate it >.<

Why? What's so new about it? This one works and was already unpacked to me. (Lazyness ftw. ;p) Also, it's still the last one available on Google Play Store, since it doesn't want to update, so I'm guessing that it's probably not that much of an update. (Haven't checked though. )
And I don't see why you wouldn't be able to upgrade it yourself... Just install the new SuperSU (replace other in system/app or install in data and don't touch system/app, your choice.
I'll see what I can do next release.

1.75 has actually been available on Google Play Store since November 20, 2013 and these are the changes:
What's New
- Fixed OTA survival 4.3 --> 4.4
- Fixed unresponsive tabs on 2.x devices
- Fixed white flicker when using dark theme
- Fixed issue with language resetting on some firmwares
- Fixed upgrading from CWM SU to SuperSU on 4.3+ without reboot
- Added mgyun root (vroot) uninstall procedure
- Added xxhdpi and xxxhdpi icons (if available)
- Stop touching .has_su_daemon
- Several dozen security hardening commits (mini-audit by Kevin Cernekee)
- Fixed issues with sd-ext based ROMs
- Updated language files
Except from reading the thread, 1.75 still has problems with some devices as some people have lost root trying to upgrade according to the xda thread so better wait for a stable version before replacing it. 1.69 is fine as long as swiping works across the tabs and the request for su prompt comes up as that was what people were complaining about in 1.69.
I'll test to see if 1.75 works by upgrading once I finish downloading since installing rhe apk is the easy part, it's updating the su binary that is always the problem with SuperSU.

Ok, strange, I checked yesterday on BlueStacks, right before posting my answer (to make sure). I opened Play Store on it, looked up SuperSU (had to go through the whole 1-click setup again, even ) and it said: Open and Uninstall... No update.
I'll admit I did wanted it not to be, so I had a proper excuse next to me being lazy, but I swear to you, I checked and there wasn't. Not on my BlueStacks, anyway. Haven't checked my phone, since there was no version numbering to be found in their "What's New", so I had no way to check it there without first installing it.

This was indeed what it said when I checked for the update on BlueStacks,... But it did not give me the Update button, just the Open button, so I expected it to have been the 1.69 release adding those stuff... (I don't really follow SuperSU, so for as far I knew, it could have been and would've easily be explained by the '.su' file and the 'otasurvival' zip in 1.69... ;p)

You think SuperSU won't be able to update, when it's already the main superuser app? I understand the problems when changing with apps from other users you have no control over, but not over one's own stuff...
Why is this SuperSU app so wanted anyway? It seems to have more bugs than any other... And 99% of the time you're just going to push "Allow" anyway...

The version numbering is always under the description in Google Play Store. I downloaded the Root.fs and initrd.img and just tried to update to SuperSU 1.75 and just as I had suspected, installation of the su binary failed. CWM's Superuser installs but the su binary on that one seems to be dead as it doesn't prompt and one can't even su in terminal mode with all versions released after the CWM Superuser you included in the earlier BS Root.fs.
As for SuperSU, here is the comparison and I think both CWM and SuperSU are good, it's just the original Superuser that sucks...
Superuser, the original by chainsdd, is open source, and has been used the longest. The problem is that it has been outdated and it required work to get it on 4.2
SuperSU is a closed source app from chainfire, a well known developer. Its got a ton of options and its well made. This one was made because of the issues in the original superuser app. Lots of people personally use this one.
Superuser by koush was designed to make a working superuser app, that was open source. It comes built into the settings menu of AOKP and Cyanogenmod.

Always wondered where that info was... It somehow feels like it should have a more obvious place. And although this seems to be the official place for it, indeed, it's often mentioned in What's New too,... Anyway, I know now, and I can clearly see version 1.75, but then I wonder why I didn't get the Update button in BlueStacks? Because that's the main thing I took as evidence.

Yeah, I was along with everybody else to change and change it every ROM again,... But then CM began to build in theirs (as did AOKP), and it didn't actually bother me, had the same functionality (notification per app settings and such...) and has a much nice clear popup, imho, where as SuperSU has that small white one which still looks Gingerbreadlike. ;p So, again, in my eyes as I did before, I moved on. Some people tend to get stuck with their first change, they never change again, that's why I ask why SuperSU would be better, if it's such a mess even updating it... ;p As I remember CWM's su updated just fine, even on BlueStacks... Dunno if it could handle SuperSu, though, but if it didn't I'd expect it to be more SuperSU's fault than CMWsu's. ;p

And you are using my Root.fs ánd my initrd.img? Because they work fine here, though, and from recent reply's I think I can confirm more people having it working. :/ Try uninstalling BlueStacks completely, removing everything (like in the beginning of my tutorial for rooting BS in the OP), rebooting, and reinstalling BS with a clean slate. All su binaries and the sudaemon should be pre-installed on it. :/ I forgot to make a symlink to /system/bin this time, but apparently it wasn't needed and the /system/xbin/su should do. This can be done later (with root of course) by going to /system/bin with the android terminal and typing:
Code:
su
ln -s ../xbin/su
Oh, right, and do check if SuperSU doesn't get updated automatically by your Play Store or anything. It should stay v1.69, because it fails at updating it's own su binaries for some reason...
Can anyone else confirm the last release has working root, though, just to be sure? Because they could always have changed something to make rooting harder, disabling the 'just replace Root.fs' possibility with some build in checker. I highly doubt that's the case, though.
Anyway, keep me updated. ;p

Your warranty might be void by doing the following steps.
YOU are choosing to make these modification.
Looks like these methods doesn't work for Fire HD 8 (7th GEN, 2017)
Reason to start this thread
The topic was started by ztrund in this thread and we ended up with a pretty messy thread, which makes people really hard to locate the exact tutorial post. So I think it should be a good idea to start a new thread.
Note: This thread doesn't work for HD 10 (7th Gen) anymore because root access is temporary and it can't survive after a reboot. As a result, don't follow the exact steps on that thread.
Special thanks to strund, DragonFire1024, Blaiser47, mistermojorizin, UROMEGAX, retyre, bibikalka and countless people who helped, discussed and contributed in the original thread.
By the way, please correct me if there is any problem or mistake.
Some useful posts
1. The first detailed tutorial is located in #221 in the original thread. mistermojorizin provided the method and adb shell history.
2. #233 in the original thread. UROMEGAX provided a detailed guide of the method.
3. #304 in the original thread. I provided a more coherent step by step guide.
4. #248 in the original thread. retyre provided a different way to root the tablet. (Blaiser47 wrote that it's easier for him)
5. Easier Way to Root Fire HD 10 used a different approach by bibikalka. (Looks like new method is easier to do) (For legacy method go to post #2)

New method
Easier Way to Root Fire HD 10 by bibikalka.
Offline Rooting Method by retyre
Legacy way
You need the following things in order to proceed:
1) adb (Available Here)
2) Kingoroot PC version (Available Here)
3) Kingo.to.SuperSU.zip (can be found here in the attachment of the post)
Preparation work:
1. Turn on USB debug mode and "allow third party app to install" on fire HD 10
2. Update Kingoroot to the latest version
Note: There will be a small grey box on the update pop up page. It is up to you whether to uncheck that box or not. I don't think that will affect the following process.
3. Connect your fire HD 10 with your PC.
4. Unzip "Kingo.to.SuperSU.zip". Copy the folder to your internal storage on tablet.
Note: In root explorer the directory is /storage/emulated/0
Let's start:
1.- Install supersu (ver 2.82) on the fire and root file explorer.
2.- Use Kingoroot to root
3.- Open the adb shell and start to type "su" while Kingoroot is rooting (You can also wait until it's done, then type su to proceed)
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ su
Note: Do not type "adb shell su" because you won't be able to type any command once the # appear. The correct way is to type "adb shell" first then start typing "su"
4.- once the # appear i did # mount -w -o remount /system
5.-Uninstall the Kingo super user app normally (Do not choose to unroot in Kingo super user app)
6.- # cd /data/media/0/Kingo.to.SuperSU
7.- # cp ./su /system/xbin/daemonsu (no error was given in my situation)
8.-# chmod 0755 /system/xbin/daemonsu
9.-# daemonsu -d &
10.-# cp ./su /system/xbin/su
11.-# chmod 0755 /system/xbin/su
12.-# rm /system/xbin/supolicy
13.-# rm /system/bin/install-recovery.sh
14.-# rm -rf /system/usr/iku
15.-# rm -rf /sdcard/Kingroot
16.-Open Supersu (and get the Su occupied error)
17.-setting > reinstall (It is not rebooted)
18.-Install Supersu (ver 2.79) and open it
19.-Supersu ask the user to update binary (I tried to update the binary but failed, nothing happened, didn't reboot)
20.-setting > set supersu as a system app (Mine rebooted immediately after doing this step)
21.-Go to google play to launch Supersu (Don't know why the Supersu icon is not shown in the Fire Launcher so this is an alternative way to open Supersu)
22.-setting > set grant as default access
23.-Then (not sure if a reboot is required here) I received a notification from Supersu and it ask me to update binary
24.-Click the notification to update binary and it should work.
Not sure whether it will work or not if SuperSU (ver 2.79) is used in the beginning of the guide.
Personally the method posted here seems simpler and makes more sense to me.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd...re-hd-10-7th-generation-t3718629/post74940137
No need to mess with two versions of supersu. After you have root you can just update supersu and binaries to the latest.
I also do not think there is any need to start adb while kingoroot is rooting. It is fine, and maybe better to prevent errors, to just wait until it is done.
I would recommend one always go back to a clean system by sideloading the official Amazon 5.6.0.0 .bin and do not fully set up or connect to the internet until you have rooted. To skip Amazon set up, just select a wifi and enter the wrong password. Then hit back and it will let you skip. May need to do it a few times.
Make sure to say in the op to copy the kingo folder with the files to your SD card storage and clarify that this is the emulated SD. Implied but for newbies just saying you need to have it and not saying where could be confusing.
After you root, if you want the latest updates, at least as of a day or so ago you can still update officially via device options, system updates. But be careful as at some point doing this may remove root if Amazon pushes more updates. To this point I strongly encourage everyone who roots to keep a copy of the current 5.6.0.0 .bin in case you need to recover. If Amazon updates their website with a new updated os, this version may be gone.
Another note, if you are using the fire launcher (default) and new apps are not showing up, just go to manage apps and find the system app called Home Pages. Force stop it and see if that fixes it. If not, go back and force stop and clear data. That should make it work.
I'll add more as I think of things and as this thread evolves.
why do I have problems with the :
... cd /data/media/0/Kingo.to.SuperSU command
and the ... cd /sdcard/Kingo.to.SuperSU command
Obviously , others like me, have problems with it, so the question becomes why do some Fire 10 devices not recognize the commands, when people are transferring the folder to tablet, HOW EXACTLY are they doing it. I open PC and just copy the files to the base directory of Storage Device of Fire. If you got it to work, where did you place the folder and how?
Thank you so much for working to consolidate the root method for the 10. I've been trying to follow these instructions, but they don't clearly explain what you need to do to the Kingoroot app while it's rooting the device and you're in the ADB shell. Do these instructions imply that I need uninstall Kingoroot and not let it finish it's process? Or do I need to wait until Kingoroot is complete with it's task?
Also, did I need to install the "recommended" app which Kingoroot had checked off before starting the 'One Click Root'? Is that recommended app the 'Kingo Superuser' app that's been mentioned which needs to be removed? More importantly, did I need to run Kingoroot as the APK or did I need to install the Windows version in order to do the rooting process? And what does it mean to copy the 'Kingoroot' folder to the SD card? Is there a compressed package somewhere which I need to extract and put into internal storage? Explaining how to use Kingoroot might help in this thread as well.
Right now Kingoroot is 90% done and has been stuck at the number for 15 minutes.

I'll try to answer as much as possible.
First, use kingoroot pc, not the apk. This is likely to lead to a soft brick where on next boot you get stuck at fire screen forever. If this happens, you will need to recover by sodeloading the official bin. I posted how to do this in the other HD 10 rooting thread so just search there.
Next, I would recommend letting kingoroot pc fully root. Do not stop it or do any adb until it is done. You will have root so can adb and su at any point afterwards as long as you do not reboot as then root is lost. As for the recommended apps tick, I would un check it if you remember. It will still install what it needs to root (kingo supersu) but just less junk for you to have to uninstall later.
For the kingo.to.supersu folder, you need to download the zip the op points to and unzip it to a location on your fire. The directions in the op assumes you do this to your SD card (main storage) but do it where ever and just adjust the commands as necessary. Since there appear to be some issues with doing it to SD, maybe try the downloads folder?

Use adb and explore your devices directories. CD to get to a directory, ls to list things in the directory. It shouldn't matter how you get it onto your fire, but it needs to be unzipped. It also doesn't matter where you put it as long as you adjust the commands accordingly. Maybe try the downloads folder?
Thanks for your quick reply, I'll do this now!
UPDATE: Your advice worked! Thanks for clarifying that we should do this with a factory reset and should use Kingoroot on the PC.

Part of my problem was seeing written many times ... put files on SD card, and I thought we had to have an external SD card put in the tablet. ( I have been running with that "false IDEA" for a couple of days until an hour ago.
No! SD card just refers to location that is on Fire Tablet itself. The ls command helped me a lot. Others should be aware of this.
I thank Blaiser47 for pointing that out. I am getting much further so far, following the advice in this thread.
Thank you oscarcx for starting this thread. Hopefully you can watch over it, and help correct our errors and giving helpful pointers.
Thanks everybody. I feel better now because the roadblock I hit, has been overcome, now for the other steps in the process.
Too many of these instructions get it completely wrong. There is no using KingRoot to unroot necessary or running the rm commands in the original guides. These instructions were taken from this post by retyre and combined with this post. It's all that would work for me after many many attempts.
Root using KingoRoot as usual; start cmd.exe as administrator. Run the following:
Code:
adb shell
su
3. Do not unroot. Do the non-rm steps in the guide (w.r.t. su and daemonsu). Leave this root shell open.
Code:
mount -w -o remount /system
cd /sdcard/Kingo.to.SuperSU
cp ./su /system/xbin/daemonsu
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/daemonsu
daemonsu -d &
cp ./su /system/xbin/su
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/su
4. Uninstall all the Kingo apps on your tablet (SuperUser, Power Cleaner [if installed], Kinglink) from the Apps page on your Fire's Settings.
5. Copy SuperSU 2.82.apk (2.79 also confirmed working) to your tablet and install.
6. Open SuperSU and update as normal if possible. If "SU is occupied" message appears, go to settings and select "clean for reinstall". DO NOT REBOOT. Force stop SuperSu in Settings > Apps.
7. Open SuperSU. Update binary as Normal when asked if possible. It should complete in a minute or two, but report "Installation failed." No worries. Click to reboot. (If it doesn't report an outcome ("failed") in a couple of minutes, go to the Fire's Apps and force-stop SuperSU and retry.)
8. Upon reboot, SuperSU should be functional. Choose "Grant" as the default access.

Too many of these instructions get it completely wrong. There is no using KingRoot to unroot necessary or running the rm commands in the original guides. These instructions were taken from this post by retyre and combined with this post. It's all that would work for me after many many attempts.
Root using KingoRoot as usual; start cmd.exe as administrator. Run the following:
Code:
adb shell
su
3. Do not unroot. Do the non-rm steps in the guide (w.r.t. su and daemonsu). Leave this root shell open.
Code:
mount -w -o remount /system
cd /sdcard/Kingo.to.SuperSU
cp ./su /system/xbin/daemonsu
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/daemonsu
daemonsu -d &
cp ./su /system/xbin/su
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/su

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
You are the man!
Only those of us that have been frustrated with this process can appreciate your KEEP IT SIMPLE approach to this!
Not sure why the other BIG thread on this couldn't do a step by step like you just did!
You listed the steps that were screwing around with me the last couple of days.
Finally it is ROOTED! Yeah!
Ok i know this is a silly question but how do you install the apk for Super SU or if I need to reload 5.6 APK? Where do I place them when its connected to the PC and how do i actually launch the install process on the tablet in ES file manager ( for SU) and also for if it gets bricked and I need to sideload the official amazon 5.6?
Has anyone tried this method with HD 8 2017 ?

1. You can get it from Google Play or get it from any liable third party app store.
2. If you get it from any liable third party app store, place it directly in the internal storage so you can install it in es file manager.
3. I remember seeing a post about how to save the bricked device in this forum. You can try to follow that post if your tablet got bricked.
YEAH!!!
rooted baby!!!! now can i get rid of the home tabs?
never mind... i disabled fire launcher
Silly question perhaps, Do I need to reset the device before attempting this?
Guys, how about HD8 2017 ?

As reported in the original long thread, it doesn't work on Fire 7 or Fire HD8.
my .02, i like these instruction by @retyre. Easy peasy when I had to re-root. mostly just posting here for my own reference, hope it's ok.

I have done this with success multiple times over the last day, so try this and report:
1. Start with a pristine /system (adb sideload update .bin if you can).
2. Root using KingoRoot as usual; confirm su usage in adb shell.
Code:
adb shell
su
3. Do not unroot. Do the non-rm steps in the guide (w.r.t. su and daemonsu). Leave this root shell open.
Code:
mount -w -o remount /system
cd /sdcard/Kingo.to.SuperSU
cp ./su /system/xbin/daemonsu
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/daemonsu
daemonsu -d &
cp ./su /system/xbin/su
chmod 0755 /system/xbin/su
4. Uninstall all the Kingo apps (incl. SuperUser) from the Apps page on your Fire's Settings.
5. Confirm su and daemonsu are in /system/xbin/:
Code:
cd /system/xbin
ls -al
If not, copy them to /system/xbin/ as in step 3.
6. Copy SuperSU 2.79 .apk (other versions might work, but this is the one I have tried) to your tablet and install.
7. Open SuperSU and update binary as Normal. It should complete in a minute or two, but report "Installation failed." No worries. Click to reboot. (If it doesn't report an outcome ("failed") in a couple of minutes, go to the Fire's Apps and force-stop SuperSU and retry.)

When I use KingoRoot it gets stuck at 90%, nevertheless su binary exists and is working.
The folder /data/media/0/Kingo.to.SuperSU however does not exists.
So I skip steps 7-11.
The folders /system/usr/iku and /sdcard/Kingroot do not exists, so I skip 14 & 15 as well
SuperSU does not show "ocupied", but the update binary pop-up (as in step 19) which seems to be successfull (non-recovery install).
I move SuperSU to /system (SuperSU config) and reboot manually.
afterwards the boot is stuck at the "fire" Logo, a soft brick. I tried this two times using adb sideload to reset the system.
So i am trying to make a simple shell script which will execute multiple ADB commands, here's what i have come up with.
#bin/sh
echo -------------------------------
echo Removing lockscreen ads...
echo -------------------------------
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso
when i try to do, bash file.sh it just says bash is a unknown command, so what am i doing wrong?
ADB is a commandline tool to be run either on Windows OS, preferredly wrapped into a Windows CMD script, or in Android OS, preferredly wrapped into an Android shell script.
If you intend to run ADB commands in Android's terminal then a shell script would look like this
Code:
#!sbin/sh
ADB=/usr/bin/adb
"$ADB" shell "<COMMAND-HERE>"

Apologies, i misread your post
What would the changes be to your code if it's a Windows CMD script? would changes to the path be required and such?
It really depends on what you're trying to do.
I wrote the following as a simple .bat file and ran it from my platform-tools directory on my Windows laptop:
@Echo Off
echo Checking for Devices.
adb devices
echo Is device present?
echo (Press Enter if yes, Ctrl+C or close Script if not)
pause
echo Rebooting to recovery.
adb reboot recovery
echo Waiting 30 seconds for reboot.
timeout /t 30
echo Checking for Devices.
adb devices
echo Is device present?
echo (Press Enter if yes, Ctrl+C or close Script if not)
pause
echo Decrypting Data in TWRP.
adb shell twrp decrypt ******
pause

An Android shell script and a Windows bash script ( including a Powerpoint script ) are in all aspects different with regards to coding, this because Android shell scripts are coded using Linux synthax.
BTW:
To not have to dance on 2 weddings I create my scripts mainly as pure Android shell scripts, which I copy from PC to Android device, and then start executing it from PC by means of ADB using a Windows bash script.
Example Windows bash script:
Code:
@echo off
adb devices
adb push <ANDROID-SCRIPT-PATH-ON-PC-HERE> /tmp
adb shell "chmod 0755 /tmp/<ANDROID-SCRIPT-NAME-HERE>"
adb shell "cd /tmp; $(<ANDROID-SCRIPT-NAME-HERE>);"
adb shell "rm -f /tmp/<ANDROID-SCRIPT-NAME-HERE>"

I am doing similar adb commands but from a bash script on a PC connected only via wifi to android box.
FYI, unlike a phone these Android 11 devices are not recognized by Windows11 when connected via a USB cable.
Commands I issue are things like
$ADB_CMD shell pm uninstall org.courville.nova
Before I can use these varous ADB commands I have to
(1) manually add the box to my wifi (via a mini-keyboard attached to android box)
(2) figure out which IP it was assigned by my router
(3) update my script with the correct IP to it can issue all the $ADB_CMD = eg. "../ADB -s 192.168.123:5555"
(4) run the script
I would like to skip steps 1..3, so the idea of running a similar script on the android box is very attractive.
(1) prepare a usb thumbdrive with a script, aps, ... and plug it into the android device
(2) use the filemanager on the device to execute the script
(3) done (ie. never have to connect to wifi).
What do you suggest doing?
I assumed by the nature of it's name "bridge" that ADB is meant to be run over a connection?
Ideally I would like to install nothing on the android device but I would not mind if a script installed some apk from the thumbdrive and then de-installed it.
The device is rooted.
Can you actually get some shell prompt on Android? or does it require an app to be installed.
I saw references to /usr/bin/sh I have no idea how to start one
Thank you for helping out.
Short answer: use

So I downloaded SH Script Runner_v1.10_apkpure.com.apk onto a thumbdrive
I insert it into the android device I have to install it manually?
can you provide a sample script.sh that would run the equivalent of I can take it from there
$ADB_CMD shell pm uninstall org.courville.nova
...
I went ahead and installed the SH Script Runner it looks like it's designed to create/manage several scripts. I am not sure I understand yet it's flow.
When accessing the upper-right menu ... "open local script" It does not appear to let me browse other than internal /sdcard IOW, it does not seem to list my connected thumbdrive like this simple FileManager or X-plore would.
Once I understand the syntax of this script.sh I will convert my current make.sh and take it over the android device.
I do all my script editing on a PC with VScode editor.
Thank you for your guidance.
SH Script Runner is both a script editor and script executor, means write your code into this editor and run the script.
Example:
Code:
pm uninstall org.courville.nova
