This is an updated root and unroot method for the s7/s7 edge.
I updated the zip file with the latest eng boot
Uploaded the latest stock files

Use V10 Odin Files this will allow you to root the s7/s7 sdge on the latest firmware. (02/09/2020)
Directions:
This works for Oreo And Nougat Roms
As always there is a chance of bricking your phone
1. Download and extract S7_Oreo_Nougat_Adb_Advanced_Root.zip
2. Reboot your phone to download mode
3. Inside the S7_Oreo_Nougat_Adb_Advanced_Root folder you will find an Odin_Firmware folder. Use Odin and flash the Eng Boot Image for your
phone
4. Once phone is rebooted and connected to computer click on the cmd-here.exe and type root.bat in the command window and hit enter
5. Follow directions on the command window
6. You can only use system root on Oreo
7. Once root is done and root bat closes leave your phone alone for a few minutes it may reboot a couple of times
8. Sprint Users This should work for you as well just let me know if your phone reboots with eng boot.img installed like it did on nougat while try too run the root.bat. I may need to change some things
9. With this system root do not update su binary if in anyway you get something asking you to update binaries ignore it. You can also disable notifications about updating binaries. This will not affect su app
10. Don't flash any superuser zips in recovery that are not made by me

i tried on G935P sprint , everything went like u said, but after cm closed and phone rebooted, and i went to open supersu (ur app) said root undetected !!!
i choosed supersu app (not system root ) ! any help
edit: i run root bat again, but this time choosed (system root orio while i am on nougat lol) and i choosed only root no tweak (before chosed on demand) + didnt choose finger fix..
but i feel the device little slow, any help ?

To install Xposed, just download the Xposed installer 3.15 apk and install from the app. Reboot.

This An odin tar file I have created to flash along with stock odin firmware to automatically install TWRP recovery along with Disable VBMETA image. The tar file will also automatically install magislk root along with remove force encryption and patch bluetooth library file. It will also patch safetynet. No flashing of zips is required

This are odin files and will safely update all image files too bit 4 and keep bit 1 bootloaders. Unfortunately this will wipe data this is beyond my control as it seems to be a side affect of mixing firmware it causes data not to mount and therefore my AIO will format it. This is full firmware with USERDATA_AIO. This will put you on U firmware. Before flashing I recommend removing your google account and make sure in download mode you are not frp locked

the dev doesn't actually have the phone in his hands and google has changed how android works quite a bit under the hood.

1.Unlock the Bootloader.
2. Root with Magisk.
But I want to follow this Guide "Installing TWRP and LInageOS" and I have the following questions:
1. Is it possible to install LineageOS on SM-A127M?
2. Is there a version of TWRP for Android 11 on the SM-A127M? Download a version to install with Odin as AP from here: https://eu.dl.twrp.me/a12/
But the only thing it did was go into an infinite loop in Download mode. Lucky that I was able to unbrick it by flashing the full firmware.
3. Is the reason for switching to LineageOS to improve the phone's performance, do those who already have it really feel an improvement in performance or is it the same as using it with Stock Android from Samsung?

Twrp is fine but LineageOS no dont you cant call or text at all sometimes the sim isnt recognised even mention it in the sub reddit and everyone screams at you to download the official even though it happens on official builds

Hey guys, I'm on an SM-F711B. Today when trying to update my rooted OS, I had Odin fail twice while trying to install the patched AP file. I also noticed that the patched AP file was about half the size of the original - 3.2gb instead of 8gb. I then tried to install with the stock AP file, but now (duh) it says the file system is corrupted and Android can't boot. Is there any way I can a) fix the patched AP file without access to my phone, or b) at least recover the files (especially images) from my device before having to factory reset? many thanks

The AP file is 7.74 GB according to Windows
my AP file is 8.11 GB, which firmware are you trying to flash?
yes the stock rom is different words for stock firmware but if you've already flashed the CSC file (instead of HOME) then you've probably lost any photos as it wipes the storage
Oh, to clarify, I did flash HOME_CSC. my AP filename is AP_F711BXXS2CVG1_F711BXXS2CVG1_MQB53367836_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta_OS12.tar if that at all helps narrow down the firmware? I just got whatever was latest from Frija
can you install magisk on a friend or family phone and try patching the AP file again and check the patched file size? it should be slightly larger than the original AP file

Wait - spoke too soon. phone boots, but in my file manager, Internal Storage is being shown as 0b / 0b, and no apps seem to be able to access it..... any idea what to do now?
this has happened to me before and in twrp I would choose repair file system, but of course we don't have twrp hmm. did you try flashing the stock AP file to see if that fixes it, then can root afterwards

There are two ways to do this, and the key is never flash stock AP without patching vbmeta at the same time. Never let the stock vbmeta.img flash to your device. The stock vbmeta.img in stock AP will enable Android verified boot and will lead to factory reset in the next boot.

First and preferred method:1. Download firmware, extract it and move AP file to rooted tablet.
2. Use magisk to patch the whole AP file and magisk will patch both boot.img and vbmeta.img.
3. Move that patched Magisk.tar AP back to your computer.
4 Using Odin, flash magisk patched AP in AP slot and BL in BL slot and HOME_CSC in CSC slot.

2. Patch boot.img using magisk: extract boot.img.lz4 from stock AP, compress it to a tar file and patch the tar file in magisk.
3. Uncheck auto reboot in ODIN, flash stock AP in AP, BL in BL and HOME_CSC in CSC slot, and vbmeta_disabled.tar in USERDATA slot at the same time. With the vbmeta_disabled.tar, Android verified boot remains disabled. Remember to flash them at the same time in ODIN so that Android verified boot remains disabled. If you flash vbmeta_disabled.tar after flashing stock AP, Android verified boot will be re-enabled and it will ask for factory reset.
4. Check auto reboot in ODIN, flash magisk patched boot.img in AP slot.

There are two ways to do this, and the key is never flash stock AP without patching vbmeta at the same time. Never let the stock vbmeta.img flash to your device. The stock vbmeta.img in stock AP will enable Android verified boot and will lead to factory reset in the next boot.

First and preferred method:1. Download firmware, extract it and move AP file to rooted tablet.
2. Use magisk to patch the whole AP file and magisk will patch both boot.img and vbmeta.img.
3. Move that patched Magisk.tar AP back to your computer.

The first method works but step one should read un-rooted and not rooted.
No. This is supposed to say rooted. Read the title of the post. This is for those who want to keep root access and update the system without wiping data.

But once you flash to the latest stock, it is no longer rooted. The whole point of using Magisk to mod the AP file, is to get root back.

Are you trolling? The entire point of the guide is to MAINTAIN root access and update the system. That is why the stock AP is moved to magisk and patched. As the instructions state, if the STOCK ap is flashed it will remove root / wipe the system. Hence why we need to patch it with magisk BEFORE it is flashed to the device.

No, I'm not trolling. It was my honest belief that you needed to have the same version ROM already installed BEFORE you used Magisk. I have always done that and backed up everything before flashing.
edit: And why would flashing stock wipe anything more the first time, if you flash HOME in CSC? Your method does save having to flash twice but it seems both should work.
