I know, I know, there are already other threads but this phone deserves them all: worst phone I've ever had in 13 years og Android devices.
So many micro-lags that make this phone un-usable: my 4 year old Pixel 4 runs better.
It's not a matter of speed or or power, it's a micro-lag problem that's so annoying and frustrating...
When on charge o connected to Android Auto things are even worst!!!
What specs S22U?
Specs? It's the Exynos model as per Subject.
8mb or 12mb ram etc specs
my s22 ultra 12/512 is perfect no lag (micro?) 50/55 hours battery no disconnection and is an italian exynos
most people with problems use apps with terrible use of background

Could you describe in which apps you see those micro-lags and is it at playbacks or scrolling or whatever?
And if you have the 8/128GB or an 12/256+GB version would be interesting.
I have the 8/128 version.
Lags are everywhere, not in a specific app.
- Open Chrome, click on search bar and keyboard takes that little longer to show up
- Open contact app, click on a contact to start call and callscreen takes that little longer to show up
- swiping left or up from edges is a trial and error
According to many articles it's GPU throttling...
Oh and keyboard is impossible to use, toomany typos due to wrong key...

The 12/512 is pretty usable and not as bad as that at all but it is a bit stuttery and laggy Tbh it has similar performance to the P6P I had.

It seems the 8GB/128GB models (both Exynos and SD) are having these problems. Except for the keyboard issue. I am having some of the same issues on my S22 Ultra (12GB/512GB SD) and Tab S7. Which is weird because I use Swiftkey not the default Samsung keyboard.

Like gernerttl wrote, the lags are mentioned more often for that versions.
Whyever, because the standard stuff you mentioned should not need more than 8 GB RAM.

8gb Exynos UK version, no lag here apart from the odd lag on Twitter, the UI is buttery smooth

I think that's a Twitter app issue. I have the 12GB/512GB SD model and I get a slight lag using the Twitter app.
12/256Gb UK model here, no problems at all with lag - cannot fault the phone tbh
Mine (exynos 12/256) unfortunetly too have sometimes lags and sometimes working very good- it's just lottery. For example yesterday after making only few photos phone just freezing for almost 1 min when i tryied exit from app.
I like this phone but software is all the time unstable. My almost 2 year fold 2 running smooth and stable all the time. Even my previous Note 9 running without similar unstable behavior via 2 years.
So i waiting for next and maybe next update for i hope more stable working.

Also J have read articles proving that tegardlwss of ram/rom the exynos version suffers stuttering and microlags missing on Snapdragon version.

The Snapdragon variant is no sweetheart.
It may have unsolvable chipset hardware issues.
For a 4um form factor chipset it's not doing so well with efficiency to the point where Samsung initially used throttle limiting by default because of thermal issues. The chipset is well heat piped/sinked in the S22U so that's not the cause.

Same problem on Xiaomi 12 Pro: I work with Xiaomi for device acceptance in H3G markets, and we got some delays on 12 Pro acceptance due to thermal issues, yet Snapdragon runs more smoother than exynos. The Xiaomi 12 Pro with snapdragon runs smooth and fast compared to s22u with exynos, trust me... (and Xiaomi has its sw bugs, yet runs better)

It maybe in part because of other chipsets, peripherals or circuitry differences. Too big of a rush and not enough prototype testing...
Samsung is surrounded by their own dropped balls at this point. Almost 3 years of dud flagships now... I'm not impressed.

Samsung's Galaxy S22 Series Is a Low-Signal Beast
If you frequently have trouble staying connected to your carrier's network, the Samsung Galaxy S22 series might be the solution. In testing, Samsung's Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra phones significantly outperformed their predecessors (as well Google's latest Pixel phones) in low-signal situations.
Ohhh nice. I like this. A lot of my cell usage is in poor service environments.
you should add that it is about the Snapdragon version for a specific chip that is integrated by Qualcomm; Samsung had probably other priorities for Exynos

I think the software is beta like...cause the phone will release in 10 days and many reviewers have stutter bugs and something like that. Do you have a pocture of yout phone? Which colour?
It's the phantom black version, 12/256 exynos version (I'm in Italy).
I was thinking the same thing, I also have this glitch where the screen turns off when you're browsing the apps (just like you would double tap on the home screen to lock the phone) and the other screen glitch with the purple pixelated stripe popping up when touching the fingerprint scanner, I think I fixed that one by using a normal photo as the lock screen wallpaper instead of the animated wallpaper though

I'll reserve my judgement until it gets here around the 25th. Besides, these are brand spanking new phones so will definitely need a bunch of tweaks and updates.

I can vouch for this as I have seen similar reports and tests on the Exynos version being slow and battery life less than the s21U. So this isn't Trolls we're dealing with it's actually happening. So don't dismiss people so easily just because they are new and only have a few posts.
The article didn't mention the smaller s22 explicitly. Hopefully it has the same connection qualities.
Notice that they're referring to the US Snapdragon model, which uses an all new X65 modem. It's unclear how the Exynos model performs. If the Exynos modem is anything like the modem in the Pixel 6 Pro, reception might just be good instead of great.

Hope this isnt the case...my oneplus 7t pro had better reception than my s21 ultra and hoped with the s22u this will change :/
Early opinion of the Exynos S22 Ultra is that mobile data throughput is not significantly different to Exynos S21 series and Pixel 6 Pro modem. It may be slightly more balanced in low signal areas though - one bar performance is a bit more 'consistent'.
A new modem was my main reason for upgrading. I'll testing performance against a S10+ tomorrow, which will be interesting. The S10+ outperforms the Exynos S21 Ultra with 4G, consistently.
So I've got a Snapdragon S22U/512GB, and it def seems like the phone performs better in low service environments vs my old Note 10+ 5G

Max brightness is bad for the mobile in many regards. Problem 1 is burn in, problem 2 is high battery usage, problem 3 is heat. The snapdragon alone gets very hot, plus full brightness makes a hot mobile. Try to use adaptive brightness for better battery life and better burn in protection.
And consider a Spigen Cryo Armor for better heat dissipation.

Hi nosferatu123
previously with the 888 variant headt was an issue but after some software updates heat issues fixed.
I consider to purchase this variant as snapdragon always get better performance than eksynos,
Your variant is S908E/DS?
Do you have dual sim and esim support like eksynos S908B/DS ?
Can you tell me if Greek language is included with fully supported Greek menu (not just added not in all apps after)
thanks

I have to disagree with the claim that the SD888 issue fixed with software updates. Over a year later, my S21U SD888 is literally always running warm - ranges from 34-39C while using it for literally anything - phone calls, reading text, IG, YouTube, browsing, etc. The only way to keep my S21U not warm is by not using it at all. Sucks that Samsung is just ignoring this.

Contact Twitter and give your feedback. When it comes to apps, Samsung has no control over that.
I have noticed a slight lag also in Twitter but I've now gotten used to it and don't notice it as much.
I'm not noticing any lag or delay scrolling around in Twitter at all, it is smooth smooth scrolling fast or slow and Twitter is my most used app. Maybe I just don't see it? Try closing your background apps for a bit to see it one of them is sucking your cycles? I'm using FHD+ and adaptive scrolling and vivid. I have S22U1 SD version.
I have the same problem (Exynos version), most social network apps (official apps) with long lists have this problem.
Not sure if I should wait for an hypothetical fix from an update or go back to my previous phone (if it can't be fixed), it really feels like I'm using a cheap $300 device...

Exactly, I have the same feeling, so I guess it's only on Exynos version, feel like a very cheap device. No good experience, but I've already sent back my S20+ which was super smooth. So anyone have a solution or I should switch to iPhone for real...

Twitter lag still here on U firmware after the update
Twitter has never been really smooth but on the S22 Ultra it’s hopeless. With S21 it’s okay but not great either.
Tried different versions of twitter and disabled/enable Android webview but without luck. Best way is to use it in the webbrowser.
S22’s overall smoothness isn’t great and it’s not on par with S21. It really needs some fixing.

Try factory reset. It was laggy for me as well (Smart Switch?) but now the experience, benchmarks and battery got so much better)
I tried to factory reset, but nothing changed (I've only installed Twitter to check). I tried a lot of things recommended in this forum about performances, but nothing worked.
I spent a lot of time disabling things to get a smoother experience, but I shouldn't have to that with a high-end device. I haven't used an Android device as a daily driver since a long time, but from what I remember even middle-end devices didn't have these problems.
I really like the Note experience but it seems like I'm using an old phone lacking in term of performances due to being an old phone.
I believe Twitter lag is connected with exynos soc somehow. I have a pixel 6 pro (tensor chip is based on exynos) with oppo find x3 pro (Snapdragon 888) pixel have a huge lag while oppo flies. Pixel running smoother because have a lot of better optimalization and pure, light OS compare to OneUi.
Admittedly Tensor in Pixel 6 is sibling to exynos 2100 which is maybe only little slover i tests but have overall better working culture.
I got my S22 Ultra 256GB last week (United States version).
No lag.
I was under the impression it was the 512GB version with the lag...
Funny, I got rid of my Pixel 6 Pro and went with an S22 Ultra because the Pixel was terrible with micro stuttering and lag, not to mention network disconnection problems. With the S22U that all went away. There is some lag, but not nearly as bad as with the Pixel.
You should say what version (SD or Exynos) you experienced with the lag since I'm using SD and no lag at all from day one.

You mean that it lags in every action, every app ?
Like, does the keyboard have that issue on every app or only specific ones ?
Yes, it's lagging everywhwre with every app. Like I type (press the letters) and the letter popup shows after a while, eventually several popups shows at once. Sometimes I press a menu or menu item and I wait till it triggers the action. Using task manager to switch to another/previous app is also lagging. As I say....it is everywhere.

As usual with Samsung,:
May untill August all the hype comes out ... Major leaks, the best Soc's, displays, next level this and that.
After september the first design leaks come in, along with scrapped next gen tech that will come someday but not with that next Galaxy (Remember Graphene batteries ? AMD killer Gpu's ?? Under display camera ?? Olympus Camera partnership ?? and the list goes on and on)
November we will see SOC hype leaked benchmarks that are killing Apple.
December we will see the dust settle and it turns out the soc isn't all that potent as expected.
January the truth comes out and we see yet again just incremental upgrades and even here and there regression (as usual).
May that year, Rinse and Repeat ......

In the store it probably has old firmware. If it's exynos I heard updates fixed tons of issues with it but you will NOT see that in store. They usually have a 1.0 firmware and can't update it. But I may be wrong. Check a real phone, not the demo phone maybe you will like it more.

I don't have any kind of overheating.
On the other hand, battery is sort of dissapointing, it lasts the same as my older phones (mi 10, mi 9, honor 8, nexus 5). Around 6 hours of SOT give or take. And the charging is slower than mi 10/9.

I've got around 7 of these phones and out of them 3 had severe lag.
128gb seems to be the worst, higher memory seem to perform better.
Unless you are getting a bargain I'd wait for s23 ultra

Hi everyone, please I plan to buy a galaxy s22 ultra, but most videos or youtubers talk about heating or overheating, advice before buying, exynos or snapdragon or which version, thank you in advance

Why? S23 is around the corner. From the leaks it will be much better in power efficiency, specially if you are in EU and stuck with the Exynos chip which i think sucks. I read Snapdragon takes better images and is more efficient (even if i read they get overheated also)....but much of that is fixed in the S23 that uses a updated gen2 chip.
S22U is a great phone but i'm dissapointed with battery and image quality still.
Compared to my iPhone images are a hit and miss. Sometimes they are awesome but sometimes they are grainy or colors are off or just blurry.
And as said battery drain is pretty bad. Like overnight dropping 7-8% compared to 2-3% on iphone.
Same when i use it, i can literally see the battery go down...
1. Notification bar is looking like it is a theme made 10 years ago.
2. Lagging and stutters is very possible, depends on unit to unit.
3. Phone does overheat if you planning to use an app that is a heavy resources consuption or badly optimized.
4. Samsung's devices are overfilled with bloat-ware.
5. Battery efficiency is pretty bad.
6. A lot of S22U were sent back for a replacement due to multiple hardware issues, for example mine is restarting by it self when a phone call starts (not every time) but at least few times a month.
7. Edges are not usefull at all but rather annoying.
8. Stylus has terrible grip, very uncountable to hold.
9. Speaker is terrible too, if you planning to listen to a music at full volume, stop.
10. It has very annoying notifications that are not important at all and unable to deactivate, for example (Messenger is using your mobile data).
11. Fingerprint scanner is ok but could be better, sometimes I have to touch it 3 - 5 times to get it registered (depends on angle).
I've been struggling with stutters, lags as well as audio stutters for several months until a big update came up. Scrolling through UI was extremly jerky.
Personally I would never buy a samsung's device ever again but that is just me and I understand other may be completely satisfied.
For older devices Samsung is releasing updates that are slowing the devices down so people have to buy newer products regularly. For me this is just unacceptable. This is a verified info that you can search for too.

I think it's an SOC issue on the s22u both the 8gen1 and Exy2200 are fabbed by Samsung foundries and are poor(Samsung foundries 4nm node was awful with low yields). The zfold4 with TSMC 8+Gen1 is one of the smoothest and fastest phones I've used recently, even much better than the Pixel. I don't think the issue is OneUI. I expect the S23u with the TSMC 8gen2 will be blazing fast and buttery smooth.
Might not be relevant to you, but I by now *regrett* buying the Samsung S22 Ultra.
The reason being that (depending on where you buy your phone) the firmware for your region will disable a lot of features. E.g. for me it is impossible to somehow activate the eSIM support.
And I really tried all the tweaks that are out there.
But you only notice these things after you've purchased the phone, because nothing about this is written in the manuals.
So my advice: Stay away from Samung phones.
Honestly, the s22 Ultra was a trash offering, regardless of the chipset, of course Exynos is worse. I'm trading it in for the s23 Ultra (I'm stuck with Samsung due to the purchase of a Samsung watch) and hopefully it won't be disappointing this time around. But to what I said earlier do be careful of what wearables you buy and from what brand, Samsung has great wearables, but half the features and functions usually get limited to their phones/devices. Unfortunately I didn't realise this when I bought my Galaxy Watch 4, and so now I'm stuck for at least a few years till I swap out the wearable and then the phone brand itself, probably back to Xiaomi.
I have the S22 Ultra snapdragon, great phone but some minor annoyances
. Battery it's not poor but could be better for 5000mah
. Speakers could be a bit louder
. And camera is rubbish at capturing moving subjects it always comes out blurry
I am in the same bought boat as you and bit the bullet and bought the s22 ultra 256GB. It's been 3 days since I bought it and honestly I am really satisfied. I had the z fold4 before but I found it impractical, the s22 ultra has almost the same level of performance with no noticeable downgrade. I have the snapdragon variant and it does not overheat. Battery life is OK, but it's too early to judge as it is still learning my usage patterns.
Overall I recommend buying the s22 ultra even though s23 ultra is right around the corner. Yes, it will have an effecient CPU, but I do not expect much from a single generation leap. A real upgrade would be s24 ultra as it is expected that the entire design will change
Don't plan on upgrading my S22U to the S23U. However if I were in the market for a new phone I'd wait another month and get the S23U. No brainer IMHO.
i agree with most of the reviews here. this device does not worth it.
can't believe it's actually rated as a Ultra/premium device
For all of you counting the S23U to be the perfect phone...did they not told us that the S22U was the best of the best?
Like the SD8Gen2 will solve all your problems...
I have both the S21U and S22U with the Exynos chip and both are running fine, no overheating, no lags or stutters.
From what I have read so far is that Android 13 with One UI 5.0 has improved a lot on both the S21 and S22. I had no complaints on Android 12 and have no complaints on the latest software.
Battery life...I can't complain but then I don't have any of the social media apps on my phone which seems to be using a lot of battery.
We have little to no bloatware on the EU versions and even then this is a one time solution, delete the bloatware.
At the end of the day its ONLY a phone. There are far more important things in life than this.

Yes, year to year I read about unveiled best and a lot of better from year old flagship.
And after few months opinion/ reviews about disadvantages and even features which previous model had better. For example low durability frame S22 series, worse speaker quality compare to S20 series.

Actually yeah, it will solve a lot, the performance will actually be worth the price tag itself, which as a heavy user I actually do need, it'll solve a lot of battery drain thanks to not being an absolute power munching ****show chipset like the current exynos, oh and I'll actually be able to get decent and stable fps with graphics maxed without the phone turning into an oven. Now lets not forget other things like photography and other stuff like that s22 ultra was a flop either way, but exynos took the cherry on the top.
