Question Call recording - OnePlus Nord 2T

Hello! I just switched from a Xiaomi Mi Mix2s phone where I found the automatic call recording function very useful. I completely miss the call recording section settings. I tried True Phone, but it only records my voice, so it is useless...
Is there any way to allow automatic call recording for all calls on this device?
Thank you!

I'd like to help you but I think you have to look at the changes Google did to call recording apps after May 11th, 2022 first, to see how your particular phone is affected by those sweeping changes.
Is there any way to get 3rd-party call recording (ACR) apps working after tomorrow, May 11th, 2022?

Always you can Root your device with Magisk and install module Axet's Call Recorder. It records two ways.

Because you can't extract the boot.img. It requires patches to vbmeta similar to Nord2

Can't download entire system and then extract with Python boot.img? Later patch with Magisk this boot file and then flash?

Nope. Not as easy as it used to be with these devices I'm afraid. I already tried extracting the boot.img several different ways and failed each time. But definitely try if you think you can do it maybe it will work.
But I'm almost certain the device needs vbmeta.img patches to be able to obtain root

I was able to backup and patch the stock boot.img and actually got root but then also patched the inactive slot within Magisk and after rebooting entered a loop. Anyone know where I can get the factory ROM? Thanks in advance!

You can use OxygenOS updater app from the play store to download the update. Alternatively if you like I can mirror it for you as I have a copy on my computer.
Also how did you manage to extract the boot.img? I tried numerous ways and failed each time. Were you on a Linux machine?

SP Flash Tool but after trying to restore the backed up images I still can't boot. But I have a patched boot.img from the may patch that I can share with you. Root worked well without disabling verified boot but the bootloop happened after I patched the inactive boot in Magisk...

Call recording is possible with root Please refer to my post here. Proceed with caution because I bricked my phone

Is anyone able to Record calling with this device and the stock Google dialer?
On Oneplus Nord with Android 11 the recoding was enable here in Italy without any modification, in Nord 2T the Recoding option is NOT present in the Google dialer

Yes, possible. You need to root first and then install this apk:
Releases · jacopotediosi/GAppsMod
Tweak Google apps (e.g., Phone and Messages) to unlock hidden features (e.g., available only in some countries or on certain devices). Root is required. - jacopotediosi/GAppsMod
github.com
I did it and it worked for me.

since google dialer seems to be the problem is there a way to use another dialer ? without rooting the phone ? or is there a way yo unroot the phone ? if taking to service ! i cannot afford to void my warranty ! i have a new phone but I miss anonymous call recording for all calls so dearly

I used Call Recorder - ACR 34.0-unChained for some time, it had issues, from time to time I had to re-enable accessibility service. Both sides wasn't always recorded. So I gave up with recording.

Ordered Pixel 2- awaiting delivery... Advice welcome!

OK, I’ve ordered and am awaiting arrival of my unlocked Pixel 2 from Google. I am on Verizon GFUDP and I plan on unlocking, rooting with Magisk and installing the tethering module. Then I plan on enjoying the phone and pretty much don’t plan on fussing around much with it.
I plan on unlocking before I do anything, including installing my Verizon sim. But do I have to allow the phone to do any upgrading prior to the rooting process? Also, can I (should I)hold off installing my sim until everything is rooted and up and running?
I was also thinking of using the Skipsoft toolset, but not sure if it is necessary. What are your thoughts on that?
Also, regarding lockscreen security on the phone, is fingerprint or password required? Can you use one or the other? I never use a passcode in general so wondering how it works.
Any "must have" apps to take advantage of Pixel 2?
Any help or advice is much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
I purchased two Pixel 2 phones, and did the same thing you're planning on doing. I also have Verizon.
1) Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device; Do this first. If you set up the phone prior to OEM unlocking, you will lose everything you set up.
2) Installing the SIM at anytime won't affect anything. When you install the Verizon SIM, some verizon apps will download. You can delete them if you want.
3) I did not use skipsoft. If you have a basic knowledge of ADB/Fastboot you will be fine without it.
4) The finger print reader is crazy fast. Also, setting up the phone it asks for a pin. Try it with the security of both to start. If you dislike it you can disable it in the future.
5) Apps I like/use: Tasker, Magisk, Titanium Backup, Custom Navigation Bar, Hide "using battery" notification, AdAway, Nova Launcher, Swipepad (where I put the "reboot" shortcuts), Reboot (Material Design) [ I made shortcuts to enter recovery, bootloader, etc], 1weather, Digilux (screen brightness control from the fingerprint reader), and Naptime (Have seen some battery length increase, though slows down notifications)
6) Not really apps, though @Tulsadiver made mods via Aroma from here: Various Mods for 8.1 December Update (Added Screen shots to show black notifications, battery icon removal, and clock w/day & ampm)
7) I like the Snoke kernel found here: [KERNEL]Snoke Kernel by @DespairFactor

I'd do it manually via the command line with fastboot and adb - knowing how to use these tools is very important in case something ever goes wrong.

Nice! Thanks! No need for TWRP? I was going to install it.
Was there a "thing" regarding which version of Magisk to install? I thought I read something somewhere about issues with the newest version.

I have TWRP installed as well. I didn't comment on it since you didn't ask about it.
NOTE: You have to boot TWRP img, then install TWRP ZIP. Search threads, you'll find the info.
NOTE 2: You cannot install TWRP, Magisk and Kernel at the same time. Best way is to install everything is: TWRP ZIP, reboot. Flash Kernel, reboot. Flash Magisk, reboot.
As for Magisk, I'm on v5.5.3 and V15.2 without issues.
I've been upgrading through Magisk direct install without issues.
NOTE: You will get a pop up that your system has an issue and contact the manufacturer after Magisk. Do not panic, it'd because Magisk is modifying the DTBO img. It does not harm anything.
I also installed Viper4Android from Magisk.
Version 2.5.0.4 = works normal and processes correctly.

Custom Kernel: Android Basics 101: Understanding Kernels – XDA Developer TV
I feel a bit snappier response and better battery life. There is Snoke, Flash, and ElementalX to name a few.
If you've loaded TWRP at all or mounted system rw; OTAs will not work. You'll have to use the factory images.
I've had no issues with the Snoke kernel. Just ensure you use the proper one for 8.0 or 8.1.

[GUIDE] How to root any Pie-based GSI

I think anyone who tried flashing Magisk on any of the latest phh GSI discovered that wifi, mobile data and calls suddenly get their teeth kicked in.
Since nobody appears to care about that issue much, we have to make do with a workaround.
Credits go to @xJovs for being the one to actually provide proper steps in this post, but since not many people will be lucky enough to stumble upon it while desperately searching through threads, I decided to make a thread here for all the lost souls.
Although the custom kernel part is supposedly optional, one can't say no to a functional custom kernel on Pie.
1. Download the ab superuser and the superuser apk from HERE and the SmurfKernel
2. Get your hands on a TWRP image
3. Boot into it with fastboot ( at the moment we can only boot into TWRP since Magisk is a no go )
4. Flash the SmurfKernel
5. Reboot into the OS
6. Boot into TWRP again
7. Flash the superuser ab zip
8. Boot into the OS and install the Superuser apk
9. Enjoy raw root permissions ( without all the Magisk goodies but still better than nothing )
Niiiiiiice
Also no one cares that substratum still won't work with this root method anyone found also a workaround for that ?

Yeah, I don't know why it won't work. Root permission should be root permission, after all.

Vendor should have no effect on root permission.
And we can't use the 9.0 vendor on any phh GSI due to incompatibility.

This method kinda roots the phone. You can't use system root. Things like moving files through root explorer won't work cause you can't access system root. Things like substratum won't work cause of that

Philips Sonicare 4.5 Bluetooth toothbrush app

Hi,
I ordered an expensive toothbrush by Philips, it has an app that keeps track of your brushing habits.
Even tracks of certain areas you don't cover too well.
If it works that would be great.
But I haven't even received my package yet, and I just try to install the app on my phone, I get a message that It won't work because I have a rooted phone.... Well it does not really say this, it said I have a jailbroken phone. See attachment.
Now before ordering I did try to see if it would work on a rooted phone, (on my wife's oukitell) no, but with magisk hide, it worked fine...
On my Xperia xz1, with Android 9 rooted also with magisk, magisk hide does not seem to work for this app.. Not even magisk repackaging.
I looked in the play store and see that there are a few others that bump into this problem.
I found on apkmirror that version 4.2.2 does work though if anyone needs this info.
At least on a repackaged magisk, and magisk hide.. I did not yet try it if it works without those.
I wish app makers would not do this... Many banking apps and other important apps I never have a problem with.
For anyone that is interested, with magisk version 18 and magiskhide activated for the sonicare app you can use it, even after the app detected root 'jailbreak' (as Philips puts it), and you turn on magiskhide in magisk 18 for sonicare the app will work again.
Using Sonicare apk 4.8.0 & Magisk 18.1 and turn on magiskhide on almost every app (incl system apps)
but still get the detect 'jailbreak' message.
Any idea how to fix this?

The app checks following things:
Code:
String str = Build.TAGS;
if (str != null && str.contains("test-keys")) {
return "true";
}
for (String file : new String[]{"/system/app/Superuser.apk", "/sbin/su", "/system/bin/su", "/system/xbin/su", "/data/local/xbin/su", "/data/local/bin/su", "/system/sd/xbin/su", "/system/bin/failsafe/su", "/data/local/su", "/su/bin/su"}) {
if (new File(file).exists()) {
return "true";
}
}
also tests output for /system/xbin/which su and /system/bin/which su
and check for emulator
public static boolean isEmulator() {
return Build.FINGERPRINT.startsWith("generic") || Build.FINGERPRINT.startsWith(EnvironmentCompat.MEDIA_UNKNOWN) || Build.MODEL.contains("google_sdk") || Build.MODEL.contains("Emulator") || Build.MODEL.contains("Android SDK built for x86") || Build.MANUFACTURER.contains("Genymotion") || (Build.BRAND.startsWith("generic") && Build.DEVICE.startsWith("generic")) || "google_sdk".equals(Build.PRODUCT);
}
You can find application without the check here https://drive.google.com/open?id=1VRqHwyN9OoHioX2-nppkJRwyQOUPAqSh .
Sadly due to paranoid developers you have to modify the app.

Thanks a ton! I've been using the app for a while, but now it came up with that blocked message. Nothing I do seems to get rid of it anymore, even Magisk Hide. I didn't update the app, either. It's really weird.
Can you tell me which class the checks are in so I can do this myself? I'd really appreciate it.
Also, can this be removed through just .smali modifications? Or does it require a full .java decompile and recompile?
(Edit: I was able to find all of the code you pointed out and change these myself - I successfully modded version 6.4.1 of the app)
And since you seem knowledgeable, another thing I'd like to do is completely disable the need to log in before using the app. I've been able to use the app for a while, and it works fine if you totally block it from the internet. If I could just disable the account check and skip straight to the main activity and make the app think I'm logged in, that would be awesome.
I'm not super skilled with modifying decompiled apps, but I'm going to try and rip out the need to log in with an account just to use the app. I'm hoping I can attach this to a debugger and see which functions I will need to change. If anyone could point me in the right direction with this, that would be awesome!

6. Enable all displayed sliders. (two for me)
7. That's it.

Described way works fine for me on two different systems without the jailbreak message or other issues:

I'm sorry! :-/

No idea. I'll maybe look into it. But it's not something that immediately hits me as "hey I can do that". I'm incredibly lazy and stoned a lot (stage 3 colon cancer survivor). So keep that in mind lol
Well dang, I still can't get call screening even with this. That's the only feature I truly missed when I left pixel 2 xl for a op7pro. I just have the worst luck trying to get it back.
Also I had a super nice stable device on 9.5.13 with root and a lot of nice things and the only reason I even went to 10 was the other thread said it was working on 10 and xxx said it worked on 10 and now I've been on 10.0.1 for 3 days and it's the buggiest thing I've used ever

It's incompatible with your set up or you didn't follow the directions. (I'm not angry). But I've posted screenshots proving it works
So try eliminating variables till it works.

Well I am on the T-Mobile version converted to international so mine is the gm1915 which you already said might not work. I completely clearer out every magisk module I had, rebooted to a stock rooted phone and things were fine, installed your first module, rebooted things were fine, installed the companion module and get a bootloop. Thankfully I have twrp and uninstalled the companion module and now it boots. I just have a gut feeling it's not going to work on here and I REALLY hate wiping my data so I'm just going to wait and see if someone else makes a breakthrough on the gm1915 model

Well you didn't follow the instructions. You didn't install Google phone. Please reread.
If you don't install Google phone before flashing the companion. It won't boot.
I provided clear instructions. Follow them and you'll get call screen.
How to install (Magisk Manager or TWRP):
0. Uninstall kirisakura kernel companion, it's included.
1. Install "Anxious7Pro_v*.zip".
2. Reboot.
3. Install google phone apk from apkmirror or just use the apk in the companion module.
4. Set up google phone, i.e. grant all permissions (including "Draw over other apps" and "Modify system settings"), set as default phone app, open app and set up available features.
5. Install "Anxious7ProCompanion_v*.zip".
6. Reboot.
7. Profit.
Also you should pretty much always have BusyBox installed if you're rooted.

I have no idea what kirisakura kernel companion is, but is compatible with Smurf kernel? Could that be my problem?
I also had Google phone installed before I did this, I preferred it over oos dialer from the start

You should follow the instructions. If it says install Google phone, you should do that. If it's already installed that means you should uninstall to install. And it's just a handful of shell script commands. It is NOT the issue.
I'm not trying to be difficult. But you've twice not followed the instructions. If you don't follow them. It won't work.
The instructions were set up specifically for this. The non-boot that is caused by Google phone being installed as a system app prior to being a user app. I have no idea why in hell that would cause a non-boot. But it does. As I said I am very lazy. I did everything I could to make this a one and done module. So I wouldn't have to provide much support.
Kirisakira companion is listed as feature but I actually rewrote it and that will probably be put into the original mod from freak07. It's just to emphasize not needing to install both.
I think it's ridiculous it requires instructions but it's the only consistent way I've found to get all the listed features working. Please please please ? ?? read them carefully and follow them. Meaning the below paragraph is the ridiculous part btw.
It makes no sense Google phone causes a non-boot when installed as system app first. Even in a module by itself. It causes that.
I spent a week figuring out the easiest way to do this. And I got it down to under 10 steps. Please follow them.
I even spent time leanring how the unity module template works ecause the companion module is unity. And I'm really lazy.
Simplified instructions
How to install (Magisk Manager or TWRP):
0. Uninstall Kirisakura kernel companion and Google Phone, if both/either are installed. Reboot if you uninstalled.
1. Install "Anxious7Pro_v*.zip".
2. Reboot.
3. Install google phone apk from apkmirror or just use the apk inside the companion module.
4. Set up google phone, i.e. grant all permissions (including "Draw over other apps" and "Modify system settings"), set as default phone app, open app and set up available features.
5. Install "Anxious7ProCompanion_v*.zip".
6. Reboot.
7. Profit.
If you don't follow the instructions, you'll probably end up in a non-boot/bootloop.
@TotallyAnxious I will post here. I will be doing clean install of Beta 4 in a couple of hours, and post feedback here. One question though... I am a beta tester for Google Phone. Should I not use it, and instead install the nodpi version of latest .APK that you linked?

Didn't you just confirm it works with that screenshot? And I use beta too. But I have stable in the companion module and you can use any verison. I just don't want to provide a non stable starting point. I get less issues reported that way haha you'll learn overtime I consider how to minimize the effort I need to put into support beyond the OP. I'm incredibly lazy.

lol same here (lazy). But I think that testing your modules with clean beta 4 install is worth the time and effort.

I don't think it is but I haven't tried beta OnePlus software yet. But I doubt it's gonna be that different with a clean install. Can you post the screenshot here so people see it works? Until it's posted here, people can click the link to see it.

Is this app a God on detecting root?

So, I tried literally every single trick to make this app called "Paytm First Games" think that I am on a official rom and I am non rooted. But whatever I did it failed me no matter what. It kicks me out of the app anyways.
The god app's link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paytm.paytmplay
Applications I used:
Magisk with cts & integrity true, the Prop editor module that comes in magisk, Used official fingerprint, tried other roms, without rooting only with a custom rom but with safety net pass, Renaming Magisk, Island.
if there is anything that I may have missed suggest.
any dev reading this please help. I need this app work on my phone.

I read that google has introduced a new API in the last couple months, that detects rooting. I noticed an app I had before that worked under Magisk, will not run now. It is disappointing, because it was just a PDF reader...
There is a XDA thread for installing just SU that does not change the directory structure or patches the bootloader...I dont know if this would work, but you may try it and see.
can you gimme the link of the thread? thanks in adv!
