Hi all,
I am noticing something with nexus s.
When in recovery or in normal homescreen, my nexus s communicates properly with adb commands
But there seems to be no communication from the nexus s when in fastboot mode.
Everytime I enter a fastboot command, I always get a "waiting for device" and nothing happens.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.
Heeter
If your PC is running Linux then you will need to be root.
No I am running windows 7
I got the Android 1.0 driver. Windows Device manager recognizes that my phone is hooked up,
But when I type in "fastboot devices" it is not listed there.
Thanks
Heeter
When I hook up my Nexus S in fastboot mode, I see this at the bottom:
Code:
USB Control Init
USB Control Init End
STANDARD_SET_CONFIGURATION
Everytime I unplug/replug USB wire, another "STANDARD_SET_CONFIGURATION" line gets added
I type "fastboot devices" into fastboot, and my Nexus S does not show up.
The phone is currently unlocked, but I would like to lock to reset it and start from factory rogers setup again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Heeter
You need to install "PDAnet"...search pdanet on yahoo and you will find the website to download it....it has the right drivers for your computer to communicate with your phone.
download it...and before you install it...make sure your phone is connected to your computer and in fastboot mode.
after install your phone will work in fastboot mode..you do not need to install pdanet on your phone
::thanks??::

I do have that already, rubbamade.
My Device Mangler is recognizing Android 1.0, and has the drivers for that I took from PDAnet.
The PDAnet itself couldn't install properly, so I extracted the drivers from the package and manually installed them through the Device Mangler.
I still cannot connect to fastboot.

I am moving back to Debian,
Had enough of Windows.
Only moved to it because I bought Crysis2 on Steam.
Never had a problem with SDK, ADB and fastboot, until I was on Windows.
Thanks again,
Heeter
I guess you made your decision already in getting rid of windows lol. Anyway goodluck with the fastboot issue. And I hope the 3G issue is looooooog gone from your life. Take it easy

Good choice ditching windows. Lol
Offtopic: how is debian compared to Ubuntu concerning repo n 3rd party drivers? Seriously considering switching to debian since Ubuntu adopted the crapy Unity

The driver isnt right if your phone wont show. You have to let windows find the correct driver out of the drivers you point it to. Either point it to x64 or x86 directory only. No further. Windows will find it.
Go to the fastboot thread in development and get the drivers.

Heeter, it's maybe a bit late but unless you're really strapped for disk space you can keep Windows and create a separate partition for Linux, using the grub bootloader to choose between the two. I'm a Linux user myself (mostly Arch but I love to test most new distros) but I have lots of disk space and I keep an up-to-date Windows 7 installed for testing purposes and gaming.
Since - I have to admit it - I suck at most games, my Windows doesn't get used much but I don't begrudge the space it takes up. On Debian you should have less trouble with the adk and drivers - here's a good post at Howtoforge about using the adk http://www.howtoforge.com/setting-up-an-android-app-build-environment-with-eclipse-android-sdk-phonegap-debian-squeeze

First, just uninstall your Android 1.0 device driver completely and...
All you need to do is connect to USB at the standard Android homescreen (with debugging on), then in command prompt, make sure it loads properly in ADB when fully booted...
"adb reboot bootloader" and let PDANet work its magic, it will pull your drivers and install for you. If you disconnect, it will not pull the right driver.

I tried that like 50 flippin times! everytime, PDAnet stays locked up during the pulling driver area. I have come back half hour later, still not complete. Then, when I unplug the cable, it spits out an error, and uninstalls itself.
What I ended up doing was, during the PDAnet install, it creats a root folder in C:/Program Files/PDAnet (or whatever it is). Now when it got stuck there, I went into that root folder, copied the "usb-win" driver package from there and set it aside. Then I went into the Device Mangler, and right clicked and manually installed the PDAnet driver.
Hiya Gun26, Thanks for that link. I am actually a site supporter on that site, if you search up "Heeter" over there. Been for a couple of years now.
I guess I could go back to dual booting, haven't done that in a long while either.
Heeter
That was just a suggestion about the dual booting - if you enjoy gaming, why give it up? Linux and Mac may be great (and BSD let's not forget) but for gaming it's either Windows or a console. I don't think you'll have any trouble with the adk and drivers on Debian. Good to hear about your connection to Howto Forge - it's a really useful site.
Thanks for that Gun,
I haven't had time to move back to Debian, and I really do like gaming once in a while.
I should be up and running dual boot this weekend.
Thanks again, guys.

i'm having this same problem, it's rather annoying
where can i download this ADB and i need a full guide about adb. step by step.
cause i have a problem in my vibrant, (fixing the partition "mbr error")
thanks to who are willing to help
You'd be wise to read up on the Android SDK before you attempt anything to do with ADB, or flashing Android stuff in general.
Read all you can, because it will kill your phone if you don't know what you're doing. You don't just 'download' ADB. It's part of a set of tools.
Sitting down and reading through the information on the SDK will give you the added bonus of being able to help others as well
Good luck.
can't find my devices
How should I do
If it can't find your device, download a program called usbdeview. Open the program (make sure you run as administrator). Delete all drivers associated with your device. Make sure you have USB debugging checked on your phone and then plug it back into your computer. This should automatically download the drivers necessary to run ADB.

NEW VERSION
THIS RELIES ON ADB COMMANDS, SO IF YOU DO NOT HAVE USB DEBUGGING TURNED ON, OR A CUSTOM RECOVERY TO BOOT TO, THEN IT WILL NOT BE AS SIMPLE AS JUST RUNING THE PROGRAM.
Another user was having issues because he had an emulator installed, so I updated the file to give you the choice between an emulator, or device. I intend to update further to allow you to check for and select an individual device, that will come soon..

Recently my Galaxy s2's screen smashed, and, after replacing it with a GS4, i realized that many of my pictures were stuck on the internal sd card of the GS2. Hope this helps if anyone needs it.
For anyone having issues...
If you had not previously activated USB Debugging, there are several steps you need to follow in order to enable ADB
SCREEN WORKING TOUCH BROKEN NO CUSTOM RECOVERYfirst, if you can see your screen, and have access to an otg cable, plug a mouse in to the otg cable, and the otg cable into the phone. Use the mouse to enable USB debugging, or to transfer files.

1. download the custom recovery image for your device. Copy the recovery image to a convenient location on your computer, preferably with a short path. We will be placing it on the C Drive directly (not in any folder) and using that in the next steps.
Note: The recovery image should have .img extension. If it is in a zip file, extract the .img file from it.
I recommend clockwork mod non touch from this page
2. Power your device off and reboot your device to FASTBOOT or DOWNLOAD MODE depending on which type of device you have.

Yes, when it references SD Card it means the internal "SD" storage built in to the phone, not the removable one. It should work as long as ADB can connect.
Sorry for taking so long to reply, i really hope you got your pictures back.

Have you also installed ADB, as well as this software?
I'm also having an issue - I have installed java, java SDK and ADB, so I can now run the data recovery tool. But when I do I'm getting "error:device not found" - am I missing drivers or something? I couldn't get all the way on the ADB configuration, because part of it required me to do something on the device... anyway, looks like the computer isn't recognising the the phone at the moment.
Any help very gratefully received (phone is Samsung Galaxy S2).

I have the same situation right now. Managed to make your program work then I get the "error:device not found". My phone does show up in the computer folder(albeit not in mass storage mode), but isn't that what this program was made to work around?
My phone is a LG Optimus G with a smashed glass... The LCD still displays fine, but I'm stuck at my swipe lock because the digitizer is dead.
Thank you for your help and your wonderful program.
Thanks for this app. My girlfriend broke her screen and digitizer on her Galaxy S4. She never turned USB Debugging mode and has a lock on her screen. When using your app I get the same error when I use adb by itself which is "error: closed". ADB detects my phone but any command I use in ADB or with your app I get that same error.
Do you know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.
Thanks a lot man.
dude this tool is just amazing and does exactly what it promised. I was spending sleepless nights thinking about how to recover my data from my broken galaxy nexus and now that I have it I can rest easy. Seriously can't thank you enough for this. Just joined xda to thank you buddy.:fingers-crossed:
Getting an error "The system cannot find the path specified."
I start the recovery tool, set eh adb path successfully, and then I get this error. If I try running the recovery to pull the DCIM library I get this:
"error: device not found"
What can I do?
Thanks!
Either way this is an amazing tool, seeing how it helped some people already. :good:
Hi, Seem to have the same problem as many others, Device not found. I cant change to MTP mode on my LG G2.
I hope someone can find a solution to this problem.
Program seems amazing doh.
Hello,
This is really a great tool ! I was wondering if you could add the possibility to recover the external sd card aswell.
Device not found
Tried to recover a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini with a broken screen
I installed adb and RecoverData, run it and then get a "device not found error"
What can I do?
Amazing app. thank you so much :good:

Hi, Thank you very musch, It's so usefull for me..
I am actually following the steps from the pwnieexpress guide to build my own pwn phone, in an attempt to build my own pwn phone. With no malicious intent, I'm trying to build up my pentest skills on the go.
I'm currently on Windows 7 using the android sdk. Fastboot devices manage to return my device but on step 13, my adb devices shows blank in the list of devices.
When I plugged in my wiped out nexus 5, device manager shows the Google nexus adb driver, but I cannot seem to get the adb devices to show my device.
I tried restarting the adb server and reconnecting my device to multiple USB ports but doesn't seem to work.
Any ideas? I've yet to try on a different machine, but could it be a problem with the ports?
Looking forward for any help available.
Don't slam me for asking the obvious, but do you have USB debugging ticked on in the os settings? You may have to go through an update of the android composite adb interface drivers via device manager. Just choose to browse computer, pick from a list, then run the update on each item listed. This doesn't install anything new but does seem to reset drivers. Beyond that, can't help.
Sent from my Nexus 9 using Tapatalk
Fixed. Seem to be a problem with the usb drives on my home PC, it failed to detect the device during adb devices. Weird, as fastboot seemed to work out well.
I basically installed the drivers in another machine and adb devices and adb push .. /sdcard/ worked just fine.
Thanks!
Hi guys
First things first: yes I have searched and tried various things to fix this problem before asking.
USB debugging and OEM unlock is activated, of course.
When I connect my Pixel 3a (in regular Android mode) via USB to a PC, I can see the device via adb and run commands such as adb reboot bootloader. Once the device enters fastboot mode, the connection is gone. adb devices -l and fastboot devices both come back with an empty list.
I've tried with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 20LTS, on 2 different computers and with different cables. The Pixel runs on Android 12 beta.
What I'm ultimately trying to archieve is installing GrapheneOS on it.
Any ideas?
Thanks a ton in advance!
Christian
Update: ok, after trying several things I've got it running on Linux. apt-get update + upgrade did the job. Thought my system was already up to date, but not up to date enough obviously.
You don't use ADB for communication in fastboot, you use fastboot
for example
adb devices will see the device with USB Debugging and powered on fully
fastboot devices shows devices connected in fastboot mode
Download Google Chrome and use Graphene's on-site installer rather than downloading the ZIP. Way easier for those who don't generally flash stuff day to day

On Windows, make sure your phone is connected and you can run ADB commands. Enter Device Manager in Windows and verify that there is a listing for Android ADB Interface.
I just connected to a new computer and I could do ADB but not Fastboot. Discovered that instead of ADB Interface in Device Manager, it just said "Pixel 3a."
If this is the same for you, go install the Android USB drivers.

The issue with the fastboot method (realized this when I upgraded to Win11 Beta) is the ADB Quick Installs are missing some stuff, and cause certain flash methods to not work via flash-all.bat's from Google or Graphene or others.
When I install ADB System Wide, I also download the platform-tools from Google, and over-write everything in the c:\adb folder, also adding the stuff missing. Idk why the adb quick installers don't just download from google directly, would save a lot of headaches
