Step-by-step instructions for restoring a stick with an old bootloader:
#
1. Stick MDZ-24-AA
- Cyclic reboot on the logo;
- Does not enter the recovery;
- Old bootloader installed*;
*If you have a new bootloader, then this method is not for you. It is necessary to unsolder the chip and restore it using the programmer. The author of the video does this too.
2. What is needed for firmware:
- USB-UART cable for firmware, for example PL2303 + drivers;
- micro usb cable for connection with PC;
- Putty program;
- adb drivers;
- backup from the working stick (from the author of the recovery method https://disk.yandex.ru/d/aL5XolrdAbTJ0g )
3. Solder to the connectors on the stick.
Connect RX from PL2303 to TX on the stick,
connect TX from PL2303 to RX on the stick and connect GND.
4. Install the PL2303 drivers.
Install the Putty program.
Install ADB drivers.
(You can download from the link at the bottom of the instructions)
5. Connect the PL2303 to the PC. We check the device manager, if it is not recognized, we put the necessary drivers. We remember the number of the assigned COM port.
6. Run the pre-installed Putty - select the Serial connection, enter the COM port number PL2303, set the speed to 115200 and click Open. Connect micro usb cable to PC. Press the Inter key several times until the command prompt appears. If the commands went, congratulations, you have an old bootloader and you can restore the backup.
7. Enter the command: fastboot
Run the command line, go to the ADB folder with the command: cd c:\adb (the address of the adb folder) and enter the following commands one by one:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot unlock_critical
You can check the unlock status with the command
fastboot oem device- info
8. Reconnect PL2303 to PC. We repeat point 5. Enter the command: update
The stick goes into firmware mode. Open the previously unpacked folder with the author's backup. First, install the driver from the backup folder, this should be done every time you plan to make a dump or upload a dump.
There are batch files in the backup:
- a.bat automatically dumps stick sections;
- b.bat automatically downloads the backup to the stick.
After the end, the firmware window will close.
9. Now we connect the stick to the TV and set it up again.
Necessary programs and drivers for firmware

definitely don't try
won't boot in download or fastboot recovery mode

now i got some progress
will be seen from the log

let's solve this one more job done I have dump files that I got from my own device, but it doesn't work for me because uboot doesn't work. When I short-circuit 2 pins, the device The GX-CHIP is seen as hardware connected to the computer. Let's find the process we will do next, let's solve the lock of the device

I guess the problem is in the vbmeta partition and the integrity check (Android Verified Boot). During startup, the bootloader checks the partition hashes (system, vendor, dtb etc...) with those stored in vbmeta. In case of a mismatch - bootloop.
This archive from 4pda contains partitions of firmware with build date May 26 2020 (PI.293) (including vbmeta) BUT lacks a dtb partition. Accordingly, after you have completed the instructions for restore, the old dtb from the firmware Sep 14 2020 (PI.536) remains in internal memory. Therefore, the bootloader detects a dtb hash mismatch and goes to bootloop.
You can try edit vbmeta.img for disabling integrity check by adding the AVB disable flag. To do this, open vbmeta.img in the hex editor. Go to the offset 7B, replace 00 with 03. Save it.
Spoiler: Hex
Then you need to get into the flash mode (fastboot or update/UBT) using the uboot console via uart (like in Instruction for restoring point 6-7), and flash this edited vbmeta.

[GT-P6210 WIFI]bootloader output & default settings & Native ubuntu running

I recently installed ubuntu on GT-P6210, it works fine until i tried to port some drivers from Linaro Origen source, as I couldnt see anything from bootloaders and kernel, it's hard to get off the reboot loop,
So I made a serial cable, thanks for Technomancer's post here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010314
and the following are those outputs from bootloaders, maybe it's helpful to someone:

2 steps:
ubuntu rootfs on tf card;
flash the attached zImage file with:
heimdall flash --kernel zImage
Fyi, if you can build a kernel with sec_log support, you can get this bootloader info as well (on /proc/last_kmsg). I backported sec_log to the hc kernel from the galaxys2 ics source at a couple of points, it is pretty straightforward.

I just needed framebuffer console, so I didn't get to X interface, for now, I can say multi-touch device is working, coz I saw touch events.
most other devices should work, since the kernel is from Gary's working one, and I did some minor modifications to let Linux boot.
I'll work on it and try to put together a rather complete rootfs, and update my progress here.

[Q] No MBR found after flashing image files into a board

I have a Samsung development board. After flash ICS images files into internal storage, at first time it can boot to android animation but failed to go to launcher; when i boot it again, it report 'NO MBR is found at SD/MMC', and can not be flashed. I use MMC command to create the partition and flash it, same error occurs. u-boot log is:

Test custom (zip) ROM on Android Emulator

Hi all,
As the title says, the question is how to test a custom rom (the zip file that you should flash on your device) on an Android emulator. I opened this thread because also if this is a common problem with several threads about it (also here on xda), there isn't a real answer, i.e. a working method. I think I'm close to the solution, but it still doesn't work. So, I decided to share here my knowledge with the hope that someone can help me. This method is only for Linux.
Initial setup
Download and open Android Studio. Go to Tools -> Android -> AVD Manager. Create a new device with the same specs of your device. This means that you should choose the same screen size/resolution and the right cpu architecture. Android Studio suggests to install x86 images, because the emulation is faster. Nowadays, the most common architecture on smartphones is armeabi-v7a, so choose this one. I'll use as example a device with Android 4.2 (armeabi-v7a).
Replace system.img
If you go into ~/Android/Sdk/system-images folder, you'll find the folders related to the images that you've installed previously (in the initial setup). In my case I have ~/Android/Sdk/system-images/android-17/google_apis/armeabi-v7a/ which contains system.img. The system.img is the system partition. It's an ext4 filesystem image that you can mount in a folder (i.e. it's a way to "extract" its content):
Code:
$ mkdir system
# mount -o loop system.img system
Now you can edit its content, e.g. replacing some files. When you've done, you can unmount the image with the following command:
Code:
# umount /absolute/path/to/the/system.img
Our goal is to replace the system.img file with the system.img of our custom rom. Unzip the custom rom. If you go into its folder, you'll see the system folder that we need to transform into system.img.
First of all, we should rename the original system.img file (the stock android image):
Code:
$ cd ~/Android/Sdk/system-images/android-17/google_apis/armeabi-v7a
$ mv system.img original_system.img
Now we'll create a new ext4 filesystem (with the same number of blocks) where we'll put the content of the system folder of our custom rom.
Code:
$ dd if=/dev/null of=system.img bs=1M seek=550
$ mkfs.ext4 -F system.img
$ mkdir custom_system
# mount -o loop system.img custom_system
# cp -r /path/to/our/custom/rom/system/* custom_system/
# chmod 755 -R custom_system/
# umount /absolute/path/to/system.img
Note that we are using seek=550, because if the original system.img has 140800 blocks with a total size of 576.7 MB, we need to allocate the same amount of space. In fact, also our (custom) system.img will have a size of 576.7 MB with the same number of blocks. The last command (umount) isn't mandatory, you can proceed keeping mounted the image.
Start the emulator
At this point we should execute the emulator hoping that our system.img is ok.
Run the emulator following this command (I've a 64 bit system):
Code:
$ LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/Android/Sdk/tools/emulator/lib64 ~/Android/Sdk/tools/emulator/emulator64-arm -show-kernel -avd Name_of_your_avd
I defined LD_LIBRARY_PATH because otherwise it can't find the libraries for the gpu emulation, an alternative solution is to use -gpu off to disable gpu emulation. The -show-kernel parameter is useful to see if there is some problem while the device is booting, instead of -debug-all that is useful to see all the stuff related to the emulator itself and not to the operating system (Android).

Small Off-Topic:
Note that on my Linux system to start the emulator for an x86 image I should use:
Code:
LD_PRELOAD="/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6" ./emulator -avd Avd_Name

I created the system.img from a custom rom for huawei u9508 based on Android 4.2.2. I hope this post could be useful.

Hi all,
As the title says, the question is how to test a custom rom (the zip file that you should flash on your device) on an Android emulator.
Now you can edit its content, e.g. replacing some files. When you've done, you can unmount the image with the following command:
Our goal is to replace the system.img file with the system.img of our custom rom. Unzip the custom rom. If you go into its folder, you'll see the system folder that we need to transform into system.img.
First of all, we should rename the original system.img file (the stock android image):
Now we'll create a new ext4 filesystem (with the same number of blocks) where we'll put the content of the system folder of our custom rom.
I defined LD_LIBRARY_PATH because otherwise it can't find the libraries for the gpu emulation, an alternative solution is to use -gpu off to disable gpu emulation. The -show-kernel parameter is useful to see if there is some problem while the device is booting, instead of -debug-all that is useful to see all the stuff related to the emulator itself and not to the operating system (Android).

Mi Stick stuck on boot logo (bricked?)

Hello everybody.
A couple of years ago I bought a Mi Stick for my mother, to use connected to an old LED tv she had. She used just 3 o 4 times tops with a Netflix account my brother shared with her. The device was practically new. My brother stopped paying Netflix a couple of months ago so she stopped using the device altogether so I disconnected it. But yesterday she told me my brother started paying Netflix again and told me to connect the MiStick to her TV again. Surprisingly, the device is now stuck on the boot logo:

}
I'm really angry because the device had very little use and especially because I live in third world ****hole: a new MiStick costs almost 4 times more now. It's not like I have couple of dollars getting dust on a drawer somewhere and I can go buy another one.
Anyway, I know it's possible to flash/unbrick a MiBox, I did it some time ago. Anybody knows if it's possible to the same with the Mi Stick??? I googled about it but I didn't find anything.
Thank you for your time.
hello, my Mi TV Stick MDZ-24-AA also unfortunately hangs all the time on the logo, checked on various cables and on a decent power supply
through the remote control (arrow + OK) does not want to enter the bootloader
I have purchased PL2303HX converter
According to the instructions from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/help-pleas...-no-power-led-no-video.4452819/#post-87044521
and partially supported by Ruslan's film
With a backup downloaded from https://disk-yandex-ru.translate.goog/d/aL5Xo...en&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp&_x_tr_hist=true
Using Putty and ADB
I went through the entire installation process
Unfortunately, my mi stick still hangs on the logo: / What could be the cause? Is my mi stick still salvageable?

With the PL2303HX connected to the uart while the device is booting (to a hung state), what is shown in the uart log while the device is trying to boot?
Are you able to get a prompt over the uart as shown in the video?

I'm not sure if imgread is being called by the normal boot process, or a recovery process because the device failed to boot.
At the uart prompt type:
imgread dtb boot 0x1000000
imgread kernel boot 0x1080000
bootm 0x1080000
and post the output.
If it's the same error as before, the boot partition might not be flashed with the correct image.

Are you able to flash the boot partition with the boot image again?
Which version of the firmware did you flash?
Are you able to flash the boot partition with the boot image again?
Yes
Which version of the firmware did you flash?
https://disk.yandex.ru/d/aL5XolrdAbTJ0g How to check it?
Other than this one I have no other
Did you flash it with fastboot or burn mode?
According to the instructions from the post https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/help-please-mdz-24-aa-no-power-led-no-video.4452819/post-87044521
but one of the commands "fastboot oem unlock" not working
"astboot flashing unlock" worked
"fastboot flashing unlock_critical" worked
I notice from the environment that the bootloader is currently locked.
The russian guy in the video mentioned that it is important to keep the older version of the bootloader, because the newer version could lock you out.
What I would try is starting fastboot, and then using the ota source files, flashing all of the partitions again, except NOT the bootloader.
What you could try first is just flashing the boot partition again from whatever firmware you used the last time.
Unfortunately, I do not have the previous works version :/

I will check that version, and will also check which version is the newest version.
At the uart prompt, type:
get_bootloaderversion
and post the version.

The version of the firmware in backup-Restore.rar from the above yandex link is r293:
Xiaomi/aquaman/aquaman:9/PI/293:user/release-keys
This is quite old. It's from May 26 2020.
If you flashed the tee image from that download, it could have corrupted your device.
thank you very much for your help and your time. I will continue to try to bring my stick back to life
