[CLOSED] (guide)Installing android on your (aging) kindle e-reader - General Questions and Answers

Hi there!
I am here to share my experience of using the Android system on kindle 8 gen(not the paperwhite or oasis) AND, most importantly, make a guide for it.
Big thanks to Microsoft and Google and their translator services (I do know Chinese but just a little)
ANYWAYS, here comes the guide...

Rom OP Format...DEVS READ PLEASE

Rom OP Format...DEVS READ PLEASE
Below is a format that should be used as an example of how a rom thread should look. It doesnt have to be exact. I suggest that you stay creative and use all the features in the advanced panel when creating a thread.
1. Name of rom, team, etc
2. Introduction
3. Changelog in code or php tags
4. What's included in the rom in the (apps, tweaks, scripts, addons, mods) in code of php tags
5. What works/what doesn't work in code or php tags
6. Credits (Users name-with link to (profile/github/or thread u got tweak from embedded), and what they did to help you)
7. Screenshots (2-10 different screenshots of different aspects of rom)
8. Kernel with either link to thread you got it from or github (if stock sense or cm please state that and that is enough)
9. Instructions on how to install the rom (also if special instruction for a2sd or beats audio...etc)
10. Do's and Don'ts of the rom
11. Questions & Answers section (I find this helpful to write out asked questions with solutions at the bottom of the op. I find that it cuts down on the question being asked a million times)
12. Finally the dl link
13. Additional add-ons (this can go into first post or reserved posts after)
I find the embedded link looks and feels better throughout the op if possible.
All sections should have a header with enlarged text and spaced out so people can read it easily.
I am hoping that this helps to make this section a little cleaner and easier. enjoy
The way I look at this is that it takes US weeks/days/hours to make these roms....we can take the time out to make sure that the op looks professional and clean
Also Make sure the op is fully ready before posting. I know we all get excited to release a rom but stating that half the stuff will be updated as time permits just shows that you are lazy and in a hurry which doesnt look good cause if thats the case then how does your rom run....
No posting a a rom thread without a DL link either

This is to compliment the XDA Recognized Developer Program Revamp. Aspiring devs showing professionalism are more likely to be accepted and frankly, it will help you immensely in the business world.
Good Luck!

The Q&A section would be very helpful for first timers and others who find a similar problem. Would appreciate it if everyone could include that.

[Completed] [Q] Can somebody create a modified apk of Portal for Non-Tegra Devices?

Hello. I always wanted to install Portal for my LG phone, however I always get a parsing error message every time I do it. One time I found a modified apk of Half-Life 2 that I was able to install without any problem: _www_76_._zippyshare_._com_/_v_/_13558591-/file_._html_ (remove the underscores for the url to work; I'm not allowed to post outside links yet ). Can someone provide to me an apk of Portal that's modified similar to that of the modified Half-Life 2 apk? It would mean a lot to me. Thank you to whoever undertakes this ordeal
Hi there,
Can you be more specific in your request? What is Portal, what device/firmware/ROM and so on, give more details about that.
Thanks

Hello. Thanks for your help. Portal is a game only available for the Nvidia Shield and installing an apk of it results in a parsing error for me. Now, I understand that my phone is not a Nvidia Shield, but somebody modified Half-Life 2 (another game only available for the Nvidia Shield) in the aforementioned link in the first post to be able to be installed without any parsing errors. I was wondering if the same can be done with a Portal apk. Here's a link to the apk if you want:_play_._mob_._org_/_game_/_portal_._html_ (again, remove underscores) I have an LG Optimus G running on its stock rom (I do no know what it's called) and my firmware is Android OS 4.1.2.
Hi,
I founded some discussions about that game, but the most relevant is here: Shield games Portal and half life? and seems that is not for non-Tegra devices.
Also you can review this thread : [GAME] Portalizer copy of Portal PC game for Android
Thanks

Jailbreak is an iOS thing.
The Kindle paperwhite use a Linux operating system, jailbreaking "shouldnt" be necessary. "Unlocking" the bootloader somehow or some other kind of "unlock" process may be necessary, but that does not equal the same thing as jailbreaking.

Useless argument Jailbreaking or Rooting or whatever.
Kindle devices are hard to unlock:this is what counts
&
fyi its linux except it's not as it, at it uses U BOOT which is different from bootloader
HENCE JAILBREAKING

Yes, jailbreaking unlocks the device so that unapproved software can be installed and some other things can be modified, but, there are still things that can't be touched.
Rooting, however, pretty removes all restrictions and allows access to install or modify whatever you want, how you want, when you want.
Jailbreaking has more in common with unlocking the bootloader on an android device then modifying the system partition or any other partition via ADB/ADBshell/fastboot, etc.. without using root than it has in common with rooting an android device. Unlocking the bootloader on android allows the usage of unapproved software and will allow system modifications but does not allow complete access to modify whatever you want. That is quite a bit more llike jailbreaking than rooting. But that is here nor there, either way, you're unlocking the device to allow modifications that otherwise wouldn't be allowed.

Its definitely JB since you cannot access root or system from explorer (if you have KINDLE DEVICE YOU CAN CHECK)requires terminal to make modification or other reader to access directory for same.
:thanks: for your interest and insight

@Abish4i I've edited your post.
Regarding social media links please observe that as an exemption from the last bullet of rule no. 5 of the XDA Forum Rules, we grant only developers the privilege to share references to their social media in their own development threads and if thorough support is provided in the thread. These conditions obviously don't apply to you or your thread. Additional information is also available here:

Your directly following post got deleted as it just contained a self-promotional link to your own website (also refer to above mentioned rule) and a link to another phone related website (refer to the 3rd bullet of rule no. 11). For the same reasons, I've removed the links from your post here.
