Samsung updates Kies in anticipation of Android 2.3 for Galaxy S phones

The race to Android 2.3 updates is on. Yesterday several users started reporting that Samsung was rolling out a new version of Kies, the desktop software used to update Galaxy S phones. We were wondering what the latest release was for and it appears this update is laying the groundwork for Android 2.3 updates of the Galaxy S.
In a Facebook posting Samsung said, “You need this update to be able to get the 2.3.2 update to your Samsung Galaxy S, Vibrant, Fascinate. 2.3.2 will be worldwide but carriers will be delayed.”
Samsung previously said on their Romanian Facebook page that the Android 2.3 update would be out by the end of March. That has yet to occur, but it looks like things are on schedule now that the new Kies is out.
Just as we saw with the Android 2.2 updates, the international versions of the Galaxy S should be updated long before the US versions of the phone. The delays might have been the carriers fault, but Samsung took a real beating since they arrived so long after the competition.
Hopefully this time around Samsung will work more closely with the US carriers to ensure their phones are updated in a timely manner.

I am positively shocked that they mentioned the US versions on Facebook. Just checked Mini Kies for the Vibrant and it is updating.
If Sammy makes this happen soon (official Gbread) it will go a long way in ensuring repeat customers.

Would be nice...but some of us just got froyo...naturally I want it though.

What are the benefits of the update? All I've seen is speed. I don't need download speed - I use wifi and don't download much anyway - just a few apps. The speed I want is processor. Read my PDF files and books faster. I might not want it as the phone is working just the way I want it. How do you refuse it in that case?
I just looked it up and the only interesting thing is VOIP. I had that on a Nokia.

Jawbone companion version 2 update coming include vast amount of change, 1.1 out now!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Im on the beta testing team for Aliph and currently testing jawbone companion 2 for android. Keep your eyes peeled on the android market for a large update which will include support for a more wide range of phones / era support and extended calendar support.
Version 1.1 has also been recently released which now includes basic calendar alerts and support for a few more phones.

it works great !!! thanks for letting us know about it.
You have to choose a channel from the list, i couldn't find the functionality to type in a custom address.
you also might have to let it buffer for a couple of minutes, but that depends on the channel. i'm using a sgs4g.

All I get is a black screen, audio is fine.

there does seem to be some functionality missing from this version, however as it is still in beta i'm sure they can be forgiven.
As previously states there does not seem to be any option to insert an address or channel id manually, also clicking on a sop link in an android browser produces a message that there is no software installed to handle the function...
I don't know enough about android to know if you can tell a browser (dolphin) for example how to handle the request? Or to send the request to the sopcast app.

If they can provide an channel input window, it'll be perfect.
I was watching the match on my PC, which was oddly 30 seconds behind the Android! As a result I ended up watching it on the phone.
Good resolution, not jerky, Liverpool won!
The images don't do full justice to the quality (think taking stills off video), but they will give a good idea.

I had to input the whole URL, just the channel number wouldn't work for me. Still, it's just copy and paste from the browser, so no problem.

Same here on ICS (TF 101).
Working flawlessly on Xperia Mini Pro, though.

+1 no video on TF101 ICS
working fine on SGII running GB
I've just emailed sopcast support about it.
Maybe if enough of us report the issue it can get resolved soon.

Finally, this morning the update notification landed on my EVR-N29 UK EE Network supplied device. I have not installed as the update is really big but will certainly update later and provide my thoughts on the experience. After rolling back I forgot to turn off auto update and the phone updated again overnight - and guess what? WiFi calling is now working fine!

Mine is still stuck on 9.1.137 android 9. I look for updates and it always says up to date. Not sure why

Anyone using Vivaldi?

For those who don't know, Vivaldi is a web browser. Definitely the most customizable and feature rich one I've come across and great when it comes to privacy.
I've used Vivaldi as my default browser for a few years now and personally I am very happy with it. I didn't notice many mentions of it when browsing this forum, though, so thought I'd throw out the question to see if there are any fellow Vivaldi users here.

Vivaldi's actual version requires Android 9 and up.

Android 9? Are you sure? I thought they supported all the way back to Android 6.

well, been a vivaldi user on pc for 5 years already. on android it feels lackluster, doesn't have extensions support. on android i prefer kiwi browser.

The beta is called a Vivaldi Snapshot and has a black logo.
No extension support, I'm afraid. Which extensions do you want?
Why don't you just set your default search engine as google? Then whenever you type something in the address field that isn't a link you'll get results from google.

Now i use kiwi, i whait extensions for vivaldi
