Stone Age. :) - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all ,
I hope your expert team will give me an idea with my old Samsung GT-P5110 (wifi). I had good times with that tablet , but seems like , even if the technology go fast, everybody tell me to throw it away. I am still believe that old devices they do their own job. At least one ( other than clock ).
I stack for days now to find away what I can do to upgrade this as with the 4.0.4 you can do practically a big NOTHING. Neither online update. ( No support from Samsung but when I bought it they loved my money) Sorry but I am not agree with their policies . In now days I would like to use this table just to show me the status of my solar panels, even without android based os ( Linux for tablet was also a good idea ) but nothing to escape from 4.0.4
The problem is that the USB/ samsung port is destroyed, and the only way to update it is via SD card. But I am lost. Everything I try with official firmwares just not make any change. If I am correct after so much reading -Probably I need a file just for update only ex Filename: GT-P5113_P5113XARCLH-OTA-P5113UEBLH3_XAR_280235988.zip | Size: 267 MB but nowhere availabe.
You have any ideas to save my beloved table and to convert it on something more useful than that where the "brick" is same as now for me
Altough I am an old guy - old board, that I was starting at my 5 ys to play with old radio tubes and fixing radios... just for the history.. )
Thank you in advance for your replies and knowledge - much appreciate it.

First things first One should not expect to get any further official updates from you manufacturer. You may get a newer Android version by flashing a custom rom. This could be done without a working usb port but if at some point you cannot boot into recovery nor system for some reason, you get a shiny paperweight (usually one would fix that using usb download mode).
Android 4.0.4 is really not new, but the usability greatly depends on what you want to do with it. How would you get the status of your solar panels? You should have a working browser on your tablet, so showing a website with your solar panel statistics should not be a problem.
If you still want to go through the process of installing a custom rom, this is what you could do:
Get root access by using some Root Apps, for example KingoRoot. You will find guides on XDA
Install flashFire and use it to flash a custom recovery
boot into the custom recovery and install the custom rom from SD card.
reboot into your new rom

PauSteu, Thank you very much for your reply and guidance.
Yes, I tried old versions of Kingoroot but nothing work. The newer versions reply parse error before even installing. Its quite old the 4.0.4 ( after factory reset ). Thats why I thought that if I will able to upgrade at least to Jelly 4.2 to start doing something. Becuase now even the browser are not compatible with most of web pages, including the solal panels one.
Althout I will continiue try to take the challenge and searching more. Thank you for your time spending for me.

I founded in some old forums back to 2013 as an update only file that you can feed from SD card and upgrade the tablet from 4.0.4 to 4.2. But not available anymore in any hosting. ( thanks for the link)

[splashscreen][all roms][cwm]

Welcome!
Soo, it's time for some more custom blingbling..! - Pictures of each will be below.
I will continue on from my easy and sexy Umbrella Corp splash! (Link in sig) - If you want some links and info on how to do these, please read in the comments of that thread, I also gave thanks to the people who needed it, in there.
I'll do a quick install guide plus some info on when these splashscreens will not work for you. There's happened a lot since the GB days, sadly.. So this will take some time for you to do. Involving some ROM flashing and so on. :/ Sorry. - If you're on a stock ICS rom, you may get away without flashing any roms around, since it's.. Stock Samsung..
Install and explanation + short troubleshoot, yeah..
Okay.. You're on some awesome rom like AOKP or Asylum or CM10, when you realize you could do with a new, fun splashscreen. This is where you need to stop and think about it.. Is it worth downloading and flashing an old firmware just for this? If it is, keep on reading. The idea of this CWM flash is to rewrite the param.lfs file inside /system/mnt/.lfs, in order to do so, we sadly need an older stock GB firmware. You will get back to your daily driver afterwards, but this step is needed. So.. Yeah.. Make sure you don't get the triangle on the flash. There are numerous ways to avoid this.. Mobile Odin being a really sexy one. If the param.lfs file isn't rewritten, it won't take your custom splash .jpg into consideration and you will be stuck with a "draw_fail_logo01 as your splashscreen. This won't in any way damage the device, it just really sucks and will require you to reflash an old GB rom anyways in order to even get the old GT-N7000 splash back. So yeah.. If you wanna do this, do it right from the beginning to save yourself some time.
But hell, we're all flashing pro's, amirite?
So.. Proper root and yellow triangle is all that will stop you from flashing these.
Basically what this file does: Replaces one jpg with another jpg + a path to said jpg. Once you reboot the device, it will no longer show GT-N7000 before it goes to the bootanimation, it will show something cool.
Installation steppy-steps
1. Download an old GB rom, since these are the ones you can rewrite the param.lfs file on.. The ICS and Jelly ones, doesn't allow for this. :/ - Make a nandroid backup before, ofc. if you wanna keep your stuff.
2. If it isn't rooted, root it. I recommend CF-root since you also get CWM that way. Most important thing is that you don't get the triangle.
3. Download one of my .rar's and unrar it.
4. Copy the contained .zip onto your device.
5. Flash it in CWM.
6. Reboot into your super awesome NEW GB rom and check out all the features and uhh, don't forget to check if the splashscreen worked.
7. Wipe data, system and cache and do a CWM restore to your ICS/Jelly rom.

Remember that at any point, you can unrar my archives and replace my image with something else, just keep the .jpg name. I've heard rumors that it will max fit 3 4ths of the screen. So full screen isn't possible. I keep them in this ratio simply because they are made from the original screen, back in the day when I made the first one. It is centered and it makes for a fine fit.
Thanks for reading, enjoy them.

What is it you're trying to do? AFAIK you're on official bootloader. This won't do anything more than flash an official ROM. If you have this ROM on your sdcard, it'll locate it automatically and starts flashing it. If you want to flash other custom roms, you need to install custom recoveries like CWM ot TWRP. Make sure you follow the instructions and pay particular attention to what official ROM you're on (Hint: search forum for pertinent threads). From where I'm sitting, the first thumb is not that clear, but I'd guess you're on 4.2 since it doesn't have the fastboot USB icon. Mistakes can brick your tab.
i was trying to install cyanogenmod 10 on my system, but i folllowed instructions about getting into a bootloader, and to wipe it off data and cache,i did that but that after that is says that i have to install from sd card. i cant find that selections, i got cyanogenmod on my sd card, but how do i install that cym on my tablet, and yes i'm on the version android 4.2.1.....

Check this thread out. You'd need to install a custom recovery first (I always rely on TWRP for this tab) using ADB. Then you can flash your favorite CM10 with it. Post your questions if you have difficulties following the instructions. Have fun.
in this tutorials does not shows how to install a cyanogenmod 10,,it only shows how to update, for update i have done that, and for rooting its all done, but i dont see nowhere about installing cym10...

You gotta have custom recoveries to flash CM10. Since you're on 4.2.1, you want to follow instructions here to downgrade to 104220 official. Once there, install a custom recovery (TWRP 2.5.0.0), then flash CM10 in accordance with this thread. If you prefer CM 10.1, search in development section. There are at least 2 or 3 threads.

Nabi XD 32 GB, model NV10B - Need to root

I need to root a Fuhu Nabi XD 32GB tablet. Apparently there are different models of this exact same tablet. My model number is NABIXD-NV10B, so the product version is 1.0. The only root programs I can find on this site are for a different Nabi XD model that can be on product version 1.2.3 through 1.5.
I contacted Nabi and they told me the most up to date version for my model is 1.0 and there are no other versions I can install. The problem is the Android OS version for this Nabi product version is 4.1.2 and I need a much more recent Android OS so my daughter can load apps she needs for school.
I tried to use the root programs from this site despite the warning that I needed product version 1.2.3 and discovered the problem is the bootloader on my model/product version of Nabi is different and it appears that fastboot can't communicate with it. So the install gets stuck after rebooting the device and says "< waiting for device >". It just sits there forever. See screen shot:

The bad news is that there are no other custom ROM's for the NabiXD. Both the NV10A and NV10B are stuck on Jellybean(4.1.2) so rooting isn't going to help. Looking at your screenshot I assume you are using my tool from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47306510 That tool is only for the NV10A and hence the product version 1.2.3, the NV10B only had a version 1.0 at least as far as I know. So even if you could get by the fastboot issue(which is probably just a driver issue) the TWRP recovery wouldn't work as it has the kernel for the NV10A not the NV10B. If I remember my research correctly the NV10A kernel will not boot a NV10B. However the NV10B kernel will boot a NV10A but the touchscreen won't work. There is a small silver lining in the fact that the nabi source code https://www.nabitablet.com/support/source-code for the NV10B kernel can be compiled, and it will boot both versions. I only have a NV10A to test with and I never could get the touchscreen to work. If someone continued from that point they could make a ROM past Jellybean for the NV10B for sure and likely the NV10A with some more touchscreen work. I honestly only tried for a few hours for maybe 2 evenings.
If your reason for root is only to get the tablet to a higher version then Jellybean 4.1.2 though I'm afraid there isn't a way. Or should I say a way currently, I do think it can be done if someone wanted to spend the time compiling a kernel and ROM.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for the information - I really appreciate it. That is extremely disappointing though. Yes, my reason to root the tablet is to get to a higher version of Android OS then Jellybean 4.1.2. Anyone, out there interested in trying to "compile a kernel and ROM" for the NV10B model???? (that is way too complicated for my computer abilities)
I would greatly appreciate it!

[Completed] [OP3] After couple ROM change test my phone is unusable, HELP PLEASE !

Hello everyone,
I currently have a Oneplus 3 which is completly unusable and I'm asking for your help to make it working again.
Until yesterday I used OxygenOs 4.0.2 ROM and it was about a moment I was thinking about changing my OS for the LineageOS ROM on Android 7.1.1 .I already did in the past this kind of changement on my nexus 5 for CM 13.0 .
So, I prepared all the files I needed (TWRP, ROM, Gapps etc...) and compared a lot of similar tutorial for being able to do it perfectly and being sure everything will work fine.
Firstly, I unlocked my bootloader though my PC and installed TWRP whithout any problems.
After that, I started the flash of the ROM and the Gapps zip packs. Everything worked and I launched the OS for checking if everything work.
I also wanted to ROOT my phone so I rebooted it and went to recovery again for flashing the ROOT zip from the LineageOS website and I picked the ARM64 one because I saw on internet it was the one needed.
After that, when I reboot the phone onto the system I have to make a "reconfiguration process" on this kind of way : Choose language --> Restore from zero --> Choose network --> Google account.
But, after filed my google account information I was normally able to receive a text for the double checked of my account but never it never came and the configuration is finally unsuccessfull because IMPOSSIBLE to skip the "network" or "google account" step.
I also tried to connect my phone on an other google account without the double checked option and it doesn't work too with this king of alert : " The process doesn't work due to an unknow error. Try again in 24 hours " .
I concluded that the problem come from the ROOT ZIP file, so I put my phone again in recovery and I do a " wipe / factory reset " for doing the exact same process from the begining (installing ROM) until root with this time the ARM ROOT ZIP.
Finally, I got the exact same result with the Google Account problem.
I choosed to do the complete process a third time with this time the SuperSu v2.79 ZIP file .... Result still the same.
Finally, I stoped trying to root my phone and I did again a "Wipe / factory reset" for just installing LineageOS and the Gapps pack. And I was suprised to see that the same problem continue to happen ! I wipe the phone and did again and again and again.
But, after all of that I choosed to do it on an other way. I saw on internet that " format data" through TWRP could be a solution for cleaning everything and start from zero. I did it and the process failed ....
From this point, I am with a phone which can't do anything and which saying that's impossible for it to "mount data" and other but I prefer to show that part on pictures. I think it'll be better for understanding (Excuse me for the pink because my HTC One M7 spare phone) :
Above there are the information that TWRP give me when I start it :

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
On an other hand, the phone is recognize by the computer just as a multimedia device and it's impossible to write on its memory or just having access on it :
I hope I was the most clear as I could and hoping as well for an existing solution for my issue (in better case with LineageOS on it with root working ! But I don't want to ask to much !).
Also, I am french and I apologize for my english if it can be weak sometimes.
Thank you in advance. I'll allways available if you need further information.
PS: Since my bootloader is unlocked I have these both pages when the phone boot (Picture 1 and 2) which normally permit me to boot onto the system, recovery, fastboot etc .... (Picture 3) but in reality there is NOTHING happening and I always have to do it on the classic way if I want to boot on recovery or fastboot (hold power button + ..... etc...) :

Nokia 3 stuck in Recovery after a 7.1.1

Hi!
Long time iOS jailbreaker finally moving to Android here.
Just got a spare Nokia 3, brand new.
Updated it from 7.0 to 7.1, than updated to 7.1.1.
Already its stuck in recovery mode due to what seems like a bug with the production line of Nokia? I've seen loose forums about this issue but all guides are either in Hindi or don't actually solve the issue. I just need to ask someone to help guide me through this, since I'm from iOS I'm not very aware about what flashing is, scatter file based flashing ect. I downloaded the base 7.0 from Needrombd.com, also downloaded SmartPhoneFlash Tool since that's meant to help.
I've connected the phone whilst its in fastboot mode, than put the scatter in and clicked download. Takes about 4-6 minutes than instantly hits 100% with a error (pic bellow)
Note: I cannot access the recovery page with the Android mascots chest open, only the screen posted in the reply below.
EDIT: Downloaded OST (Nokia's desktop flash editor), not much help as I can't seem to find the type of file its asking for. Seems like it could be a problem with a com port on the phone side seeing as I've mucked about with other cables/sockets.
Any help is so so appreciated right now :victory:

Whaat!!! Even with all my experience customising android phones, I haven't had the nerve to try flashing my nokia3 with flashtool. Does your phone still enter download mode? If so I recommend that you flash your phone with OST
