Question Can access folders and view files in Android/Data. But I am unable to edit/delete any of them they are read only. Help ? - Samsung Galaxy S21+

So i am trying to restore my Kodi Backup to android/data/org.xmbc.kodi... etc.
But i am unable to do so because the folders of the apps are read only, I cant edit them or remove them. Tried many popular File Managers and it doesnt work. I can give them permission on to see the /data folder then all the files appear and subfiles/folders. But none of them are editable.
Anyone know a solution other than rooting.

I think by nature data is only accessible to edit with root

How to... copy/move files stored in a Smartphone ROM?

I can't copy or move files stored in device ROM.
I've tried with Resco Explorer and Total Commander, but without success.
I didn't understand if there's a registry hack that allows these operations.
I've notice (or so it seemed to me) that I was able to substitute/copy/move some files having the ROM attribute, but many others not (eg: I've tried to copy the nleddrvr_sec.dll, obviously without success, otherwise I'd post this here!).
Surfing in many forums, I read many others asking for the same thing, unfortunately I haven't seen answers to their question about this.
Hope someone explains to me how to do or why is impossible to do.

You can not copy / move / delete files in ROM. Thats the point of "Read Only Memory"
These files are not stored as individual files but are in fact packed in a special way as part of the device image which can only be written (flashed) by special tools.
If you want to extract OS files you need to use a ROM dump tool.
I suggest you look in the WiKi.
What you can do is overwrite one or more "ROM files". What will happen in reality is that a copy of the file with the same name will be placed in storage memory and the system will go there. If you hard reset your device or rename the file it will go back to the original file.

As you said here and here (Changing Files in Windows Dir )
it's impossible to move/copy ROM files, just overwrite 'em.
Doing so the system looking for these overwritten copies.
So now the question are:
- there's a registry entry that points to this substitute ROM files?
- to modify an existent file resident in ROM I MUST dump my ROM or another one same or similar?
Mersì bo q, anyway.

Can't remove At&t links from start menu

Samsung Blackjack
AT&T/Cingular
Just updated the firmware
I am trying to remove links from my start menu for useless util's such as AT&T Mall, AT&T Music and Media net.
I've tried to remove them from the device directly by deleting the files from \Windows\Start Menu\*folder or file name* as well as connecting the device via Active Sync and deleting the same folder\file location through Active Sync file browsing.
When I try to delete the files, I recieve the following error:
"Cannot delete file ****: Access is denied. Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file is not set as read-only, and that you have permissions to copy this file type."
I have verified that on applications such as Garmin Navigator and Good Messaging (app's I installed after the firmware upgrade) and I am able to delete, or modify their start menu shortcuts located in \windows\Start Menu folder. This leads me to belive that the issue is not related to sufficient memory, or permissions.
I have found articles by google'ing and they state it is possible to delete these specific files but they won't delete on mine. I tried rebooting several times (some articles noted that rebooting would majically allow deletion of files). No luck.
PLEASE HELP.
Brent
Using resco explorer I have hidden files that were in the ROM. Download teh trial and see if that works for you.
Figured it out...

Allowed me to rename and delete the ROM based shortcuts.

Corrupt File Names

Guys - I am new to this, so please be patient!
I have a problem with a load of corrupt file names in my IE temporary files folder. I have no way to delete them - going through PIE's 'Memory' option does not work, Total Commander cannot delete them, I even tried with a DOS command line utility.
The problem seems to be that the OS is unable to delete the files because the files have invalid characters in their name. I have tried moving / renaming them, but again it dont work!
The files also have peculiar dates (eg 01/03/1601), and appaerently huge sizes (3GB!).
Is there any other way I can delete them?
Any suggestions to fix this would be much appreciated.
Thanks

a question regarding removing programs. please help

after i delete certain apps i downloaded sometimes they leave behind a file that cant be deleted no matter what i do. for example i downloaded PointUI home but didnt like it so i deleted it using add/remove programs in system settings. everything was deleted except for a small file called 2001. it wont delete and ive tried everything. until i find a way to do so it still shows up in add/remove programs. i have 4 such apps that wont go away because of that same problem. i have an htc snap on sprint running windows mobile 6.1 if that helps any. im stumped! any help would be greatly appreciated
try SKTools....
i have sktoolslite but im unsure if itll let me delete them. i had issues deleting those programs and sktoolslite deleted most of those files except for that one file. i look in the windows folder under app manager and the folders for said apps are still there with that one stubborn file in each folder. again. any help would be appreciated
I don't know what those files are, but if you test cabs frequently, then sk tools is a good way to install them (use the cab manager, select install w/ sk tools). It does a better job of removing programs (go to installed programs, do a deep scan and uninstall).
For now, you may fix the problem by using the installed programs tool and removing uninstall info (if the apps appear there). To get rid of the files in \windows, try checking for replaced rom files and restoring to original. You may need to add the proper extensions in settings.
it keeps saying that the file is a system file and if deleted the phone wont work properly. when i try to delete anyway it tells me i cant . access is denied. be certain that the program is not write protected and not currently in use. before that it would say problem deleting file
bump. anyone else experience something similar? if so then how did you deal with it?

how to edit packages.xml

Hello, hopefully I am posting in the correct section.
I want to give my phone app access to write and delete files on my SD card, but unfortunate Android remove this ability in newer android versions, so I found the following thread.
https://android.stackexchange.com/q...ccess-to-external-storage-to-an-app-in-nougat
When I plug the phone into computer, only three folders is found in /data, the system folder is missing. Why ain't all folders shown when accessing through computer?
I found the packages.xml file in using root explorer, which showns all files, I opened it, but I have no idea how to edit it.
Can someone give me a general instruction on how to edit the package.xml?
Thanks.
