Question Band 12 not working on Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G (veux) - Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G (peux)/POCO X4 Pro 5G (veux)

I AM BASED IN UNITED STATES
Hi there, I previously have been using Redmi Note phones since the note 8 with AT&T, but as of this February, AT&T blacklisted my Note 10 Pro's IMEI and I had to switch to a Samsung. It has been absolutely horrible so I have been trying to escape AT&T.
I am currently trying Mint mobile because they will support whatever brand phone you bring as long as it can connect to their network.
I was split between buying a OnePlus phone, but the Xiaomi offers such better looking design and better specifications at $100 cheaper.
Mint Mobile is a T-Mobile NVMO for those of you who don't know, and it operates it's 4G network on bands 2, 4, 12, and 71. 2 and 4 primarily in cities, 12 and 71 for long distance rural areas (lower frequency = better range)
As seen below, any of the OnePlus phones cover all T-Mobile bands, and then some. The Note 10 Pro is lacking one of the long distance 4G bands, so I have almost no service with it unless I am in a city.

I chose to purchase the Note 11 Pro 5G as it supports one of the long range frequencies, so I figured it would be good enough for what I want.
However upon receiving and activating the device with my Mint Mobile SIM, it has no better coverage than my Note 10 Pro. I have been for the past day trying to figure out why this is... and I find this menu in the phone that allows you to select which band to use, and 12 is not listed!!! I still get service on bands 2 and 4, but as you can see in screenshot barely enough to use data.
So I am trying some of the threads here on XDA to "unlock additional bands" but no luck so far... I am frustrated and love the xiaomi devices, they offer hardware at prices nobody else does, and I would hate to leave. Does anybody else have any info about this that might be helpful to me?
Willing to toss some money your way if you know what you're talking about can help me make this phone work!!!

Hi I'm having the same problem. Can you share the phone code or name of this app that your using?

@lordboo03 I am using "activity launcher" and opening Settings > .MiuiBandMode
from there you can choose which bands are prioritized, but band 12 is not an option, which is why I am making this post...
There is no solution for you to follow if that's what you are looking for

Have you tried asking the seller or manufacturer why the global model is missing those bands mentioned ?
OP, you wrote this massive thesis yet you didn’t include important information like model number product code / sku for the device in hand.
In any case there are two similar versions to the one you bought , I’m guessing you got the wrong one. The other model has a “+” in its description title and the one you bought has been misrepresented on Amazon with band 12.

Yes, been in contact with Xiaomi and retailer, they are both saying it should support band 12 trying to get to a more technical support via xiaomi, but hard to find one that doesn't only speak chinese

Sorry, I figured saying it was "veuxg" was accurate enough. The Model is 2201116SG.
I do have the global version, NOT the +, I'm familiar with the difference and was going to purchase the 11 Pro+ 5G model for fast charging, but it uses Dimensity instead of SnapDragon so I figured it will have limited development support.

OET List Exhibits Report
So check your device FCC ID, is it 2AFZZ16SG ?
Almost pulled the trigger on the same one last week.
https://smile.amazon.com/Xiaomi-Factory-Unlocked-Verizon-Graphite/dp/B09RZYJ9PG/ref=sr_1_6?crid=2QNRGWGQKIOJC&keywords=redmi%2Bnote%2B11&qid=1651065898&sprefix=redmi%2Caps%2C107&sr=8-6&th=1

Yes just checked in settings > certification and it is 2AFZZ16SG.
Thank you so much for that website! I didn't know it exists. So this 100% confirms that the device does support band 12.
According to page 4 of this document... everything should be working fine. So I assume this must be a T-Mobile/Mint mobile problem and they didn't know what I was talking about last time I called.
I guess my next option for getting help will be calling again and asking for technical support.

Update: I have called Mint Mobile and they "updated some setting in their system" (I asked what this meant and they refused to elaborate further... however I am now seeing the following:
I am connected on band 66 (subset of band 4), and sometimes get aggregate with band 2, but band 12 is a "neighbor cell" so I believe it worked. I am going to drive out into the middle of nowhere some time this weekend where I should only be able to get band 12 and see if I have service.
Mint also confirmed this:

Thanks for the update so I'm guessing since we have the same model I should be good too?

Man that is an absolutely awful crop.
I can't speak regarding your situation, or even my own, as I still have to drive out into the middle of nowhere where my phone will stop trying to connect to 2/4 towers. I need somewhere where there is only band 12. I just don't have the time to do that today.
Will update again this weekend

Still don't understand why the band selection menu within your phone didn't show BAND 12 ( does it now?), it was my understanding that the menu lists all bands that are available on a hardware level not what the radio was picking up. In any case band 12 on its own is relatively useless for data throughput last time I checked.

This also still has me a bit confused, I am not seeing band 12 here still either... but the phone picked it up at some point so the support is there.
I have been in contact with Xiaomi every day but none of the English speaking customer sales reps know what I'm talking about

I am also so confused by this. I have been troubleshooting still for hours every day to no avail. I have driven for hours around the state and still not having and functionality with band 12. I can see the towers in "neighboring cells" but my device never connects to them.
I hate to say it, but I think I am going to get stuck returning this killer budget phone and going with a OnePlus 9 Pro

Maybe something to do with TMobile not whitelisting it fully ? Shame really how the carriers truly lock down their customers from competition AT&T being the worst culprit.

I don't believe so, because in one of my other posts:

Mint confirmed functionality and compatibility. I also sat on the phone with them for hours today and tried to figure it out.
I might be able to get away with bands 2 and 4, I really want to avoid new OnePlus, but I do need decent coverage since I do so much work from my phone...

I was hoping somebody might be able to assist me. I just ordered this phone for my mother In law, she's in NJ and she uses metro (formerly pcs). They are telling her that this Redmi note 11 pro 5G is not compatible with their network. She's definitely open to switching to mint... That's who I use. But mints website tries to tell us that this device isn't compatible. Clearly you can use this phone on mints network. But what setting will we need to adjust to make that possible.

@Jonathanb1999
Not open on tmobile's long range bands, would probably work if you could root device and modify low level firmware but very limited development support on a mediatek chip.
I switched to a oneplus 9 pro, i suggest you do the same. 9 Pro is a rip off, so buy your mom a nord 5g. best option in my opinion at the moment and reasonable price.

Yeah, Ive gotta see if we can return the Redmi. . So you recommend the Nord .. the N200 or the N20? Also, I appreciate the advice man. Big time!

I only have experience with Oneplus' pro series phones, but either are probably good options. That or a google pixel, but I can at least confirm excellent compatibility Oneplus <=> TMo

Overall Compatibility in the US

Hey guys, so I was exploring purchasing a Mi Mix 3 on Aliexpress for use in the United States. However, I had some concerns about usage in the United States, especially with the international version. Could someone please tell me about their experience with this phone in the United States, including carrier signal (preferably T Mobile), any issues you've come across using this phone in the United States, and other similar dilemmas. Thanks!
Its name Global Version for a reason, so i think it will work fine all around the world, IF its a true Global Edition.
Check carefully, many seller flash the global/eu rom on CN variant and sell them as "Global Edition".
It will work internationally whether it's a global edition or not, there's no difference in the bands between the Chinese and Global variants. The software is different, however. The Chinese software works fine in the US, but you have a bit of work to do to get the Google apps on it. The other issue is if the seller is buying the Chinese variant then loading the Global software and relocking the bootloader, because if you subsequently install an official update, you will hard-brick your device. Having said that, I can't think of any reason why sellers would be bothering with that now that the Global version is readily available, at least the more reputable ones. Gearbest always clearly mark their devices on the website as either Chinese or Global. I suppose if you wanted to be absolutely sure, you could buy from a European retailer, assuming you don't want the 8/256 model. The other option, of course, is to unlock the bootloader and (optionally) install an unofficial rom, that way you also get regular Android security updates.
I would recommend spending the extra to get the 8/256 if there is any chance you are going to get a "chinese" version. The "global" version is *supposed* to have all the bands enabled on all storage/ram configurations. However, the chinese version only has full band support on the 8/256 device. It is possible that we may be able to find a way to use QXDM and stuff to enable additional bands regardless, but I wouldn't count on that. I spent the extra to get an 8/256 which now has the leaked global rom on it. The global software works great and I have atleast equivalent coverage to my work Pixel 2 XL, usually with slightly better signal levels.
I have no complaints about this device, the only thing I have noticed is it seems that the glass is not as hard on some units. I bought my wife an 8/256 device and she is not exactly gentle on her device. Her screen has no scratches, but mine has many already after about 2 months, and I'm pretty careful with my devices. And to be clear, these are light surface scratches that are only visible when tilting the device with the screen off, not something you can see with the screen on.
I have T Mobile. I get better reception on Mi Mix 3 than I got on both my Note 8 and my iPhone 7. I know this because there's a spot I park every day and the MiMix works there when the others didn't.
I got 96mbps on 4G LTE when I tested it.
Of note: I did have an original MiMix 1 and it was not good for reception. At all. But the 3 has something like 42 bands in, and it has the best reception of any phone I've had.

So I just want to confirm. If I buy a mix 3 in China and then flash itd to a global ROM (e.g. EU) then I should have no issues using it in the US (I'll be on T-Mobile).
There is a serious problem to me not sure if it's because of Mi MIX or TMobile combination (Los Angeles area)
Same problem on my wife's MIX 2S and my MIX 3, both official global version and latest firmware.
When the phone is on wifi, even though the mobile connection looks connected, it might have been disconnected actually.
No call and message will come through. People's calls will go to voice mail.
You will not know that until someone tell you they can't call you on the phone, or when turning off wifi suddently all missing text/MMS messages will arrive.
I'm still searching on more information on this and if some others have the same issue.
One of you friends used to have similar issues using a Samsung Galaxy on TMobile before he switched to iPhone.
Working great here in MN on T-Mobile no issues at all. I have the global edition.
It works for the most part on Verizon (a carrier which doesn't technically support it), the only issues I have are with MMS messaging (which is fixed in another thread) and my mobile hotspot which Verizon seems to be unable to turn on properly. Other than that I haven't had any issues. I would imagine on a GSM carrier like T-Mobile you would see even fewer problems, if any.

All you need to do is pop in a Verizon SIM card and change the APN settings and it'll work. Sometimes the SIM card won't let you change them (because Verizon locks them down), but that didn't happen to me. If that's the case, grab someone else's SIM card that has like T-Mobile, put it in your phone, add a new APN, then put the Verizon one back in and select the APN you made. I detailed the settings you need to set in these posts: _1_, _2_. If you need any additional help let me know.
Also, if you want to enable VoLTE check out this thread.

Redmi Note 7 Pro Chinese Version vs Redmi Note 7 Global Version - U.S. Bands

I bought a Redmi Note 7 Pro Chinese ROM phone on eBay a few days ago and it's on the way. What I'm concerned about, and have tried to figure out, is whether this phone is going to have available bands that I can use. I've read different takes on this including someone from the Dallas/Fort Worth area who says he gets an LTE connection in most of the country (This is with the Redmi Note 7 Global Version). Others say it won't work. I live in Southern California in the United States and have an account currently with AT&T. I looked on Frequency Check and found some useful information. But I'm wondering if other people here are using their phone successfully in the United States and where they live and what carrier they're using.
And the other thing in regard to this I'm wondering about is whether the bands available on the Redmi Note 7 Pro Chinese ROM are the same bands available on the Redmi Note 7 Global Version. And also wondering if the Indian version is different as far as bands go.
I love the phone and have done a lot of research on the various features, but just want to make sure I can actually use it. And if it doesn't connect would swapping out the Chinese ROM for a Custom or Global ROM affect being able to find bands to connect to, or is this a hardware issue?
Thanks much for your help. Appreciated.
Hello, here you can find Redmi Note 7 global specs, including the supported bands. In case you meant Redmi Note 7 pro global version - that is actually an Indian version of the device, you can find the specs here. It supports fewer bands than the Chinese version of the Redmi Note 7 pro, you can find the specs here (the page is in Chinese). Now you just need to see if your carrier supports those frequencies and you are set. Regarding your question about usability of the phone; it is not as simple as swapping out roms. The hardware most likely supports many other bands but they are unavailable because Xiaomi decided to lock them out due to marketing strategy/licensing. Although there are many tutorials available on enabling different (locked out) bands on the phone, it requires editing NV memory which is not very easy to do and there is significant risk of bricking the device. Also i have never heard/read that someone actually succeeded on a Xiaomi/Redmi device.
Also, check this out. P.S. i don't live in US.

Thanks very much to both of you for your help and the info. I did some more research after my post here and found lots of useful info too. This link at Frequency Check was very useful. This is for the Redmi Note 7 Pro Chinese version. Once you're on the page click on "Check Country/Carrier Compatibility" and it takes you to several other pages that list all the available bands and network compatibility for each country and then for the different carriers in that country. It's really useful. I can't post direct links since I'm new but you can add the beginning info. frequencycheck.com/models/GpZRq/xiaomi-redmi-note-7-pro-dual-sim-td-lte-cn-128gb-m1901f7be-xiaomi-m1901f7b
Then I checked the same site for info on the Redmi Note 7 Global Version. frequencycheck.com/models/O8DW0/xiaomi-redmi-note-7-global-dual-sim-td-lte-128gb-m1901f7g-redmi-note-seven-xiaomi-lavender?c_id=1300548 And what I found is that in the U.S. the Global Version is way more compatible with a lot more bands available and better network connections than the Pro Version which is very restricted. This applies to worldwide bands too, but even with AT&T, who my account is with, in the U.S. the Global Version has 2 out of 4 bands available for LTE 4G while the Pro Version has 0 out of 4. Of course this depends too on where you're actually at physically at any given time. But I ended up buying a Redmi Note 7 Global Version on Amazon yesterday and it's arriving tomorrow. I'd rather have the Pro Version but not if it's severely restricted as far as network connections. It's too bad Xiaomi didn't release a Pro Global Version. When they announced this on Facebook I scolded them for not giving everyone a heads up about this earlier after months of promoting it. But as you mentioned they did note that this was due to their marketing strategy. I think they'll be coming out with new models soon that releasing a Pro Global Version may have undercut.
The Redmi Note 7 Global Version I bought is the 4GB RAM 128GB ROM version which is okay although I'd rather have 6GB of RAM. I saw that there is a 6GB RAM 64GB ROM Redmi Note 7 available but evidently not the Global Version. I think the one I bought will be okay. The camera with Gcam installed doesn't really seem all that different. And I'm not a heavy duty gamer so the better processor probably won't make that much difference to me personally.
The one I bought on eBay from China will get here in a couple of weeks probably and I'll have to decide whether to try it (which I may based on that last link you sent) or return it or resell it. That one was $283 and the one I bought yesterday was $240.
Also I saw that too about opening more bands and that process looks really sketchy as you noted. Thanks for sharing that. Don't need a bricked phone.
Thanks again.

Thanks. Yeah I saw that. But of course in relations to where you live it's not a matter of how many bands are in each one, but a matter of having ones that work on your network where you are. But if you travel a lot then the number available maybe would matter.
Just saw this comparing the bands available between the Redmi Note 7 Global Version and the Redmi Note 7 Pro China Version. Makes it easier to see at a glance. I'll try the Redmi Note 7 Pro Version I bought once it arrives from China and see how it does. Hopefully it won't take too long.

Why would you waste your time with either the Pro or the non Pro version? I mean, you live in the USA and they don't support most of the vital USA LTE bands? There are lots of phones out there that got great reviews that don't support LTE bands in the USA but I wouldn't waste my time with any of them. So why do you? I mean, the Pocophone is an amazing value, but it doesn't support USA LTE so I wouldn't touch it. Just curious about your thought process.

Actually if you look at the charts I linked to, the Redmi Note 7 Global Version I bought does have LTE bands available in the United States. And also, as I mentioned, there's a guy in the Dallas area that said his was working great connecting to LTE, and he travels too. It's the Pro Version that is restricted in this way. I didn't know about any of this until I did a lot of research. That's why I shared those links I did, to help everyone else easily see the realities of this in whatever country they're living in. And the realities if they travel. Again, here are the bands available in different countries for the Pro Version. frequencycheck.com/compatibility/GpZRq/xiaomi-redmi-note-7-pro-dual-sim-td-lte-cn-128gb-m1901f7be-xiaomi-m1901f7b/countries. I received my Redmi Note 7 Global Version I bought last night and it did make a strong LTE connection with all the bars up. Except for the fact the "Neptune Blue" was much more dark purple than I had seen over half way down the back, I'm very happy with the phone. I'll exchange it for a Space Black one. All the other features I tried so far worked great. With the only exception being it took a few for the video recording to start, which someone else mentioned too. I'm tempted to try the Pro Version I bought when it arrives. But I think that one does have band restrictions so I better not. I'll just return it unopened.
BTW I notice no one thanked me for any of my heavily researched very useful links I shared. No one seems to remember to say thank you these days. Something to consider in interacting with anyone.
Thanks for the research old sport

You're welcome. I ended up returning my Redmi Note 7 Pro because of the limited bands available in the United States and buying the Redmi Note 7 Global Version which is working great.

I'm considering getting this phone next

I was surprised how well this phone is supported on XDA and it looks quite good on paper, i have 1 question i cannot find answer to:
Does this phone support Carrier Aggregation in Europe? (4G+)
It you buy EU version then yes. If you buy India, China (RMQ) or any other version than EU then definitely not. So I heard.

Nice. But in my country mi 9 lite 6gb and realme xt 8gb are similarly priced. If I decides to increase my budget then I will go for realme xt. Sd712 over sd710.
According to realme support no it doesn't.
Also I'm based in Italy and can confirm you there is no sign of 4g+ even though I live near a Tri-Band bts (3-7-20) and my place is full of two and three bands bts.
Considering to return the phone for exactly this reason. My old op3t had full 4g+ in the same position

I still can't believe eu version doesn't support 4g+. I mean did you check sites if they show whether or not this device supports it or not? I mean I definitely did before buying but I only see which bands does the device support. Not the technology (3g and 4g is present but I don't see 4g+). If you didn't check for it then why did you buy? If you did check but it was written to be present but it is not, shouldn't you get s full refund or device return + refund??

I can't believe it either, it was a BIG surprise to see it lacks it. In 2019, ANY and i mean ANY device you buy got a form of CA, even a Huawei MTK I just bought for dad for 99 euros. Of course this is also specified, for example as you can see there is mention for LTE-A (which is LTE+)
https://www.gsmarena.com/realme_5_pro-9801.php
I couldn't believe it so I sent an email to Realme customer service asking if the phone indeed supported LTE-A like specified and like supported by its chipset (snapdragon 712 is a 3*20mhz capable chipset) and they replied "realme 5 pro doesn't support LTE+"
Then, after more than TEN days, they replied again to the same email by saying that they were sorry for the previous reply and that the phone DOES support LTE+ (is this a professional service?)
I asked them how I can check which bands gets aggregated and why there is no sign of a 4g+ or lte+ icons like all other phones and... they never replied
I've read around that Realme support is a total crap, but I really tried and hoped they can answer about specs of a phone they produce and sell directly.
To dig further another guy here on xda sent some network guru screenshots where it is clearly shown that it only can catch a single band and not multiple.
So at this point I'm thinking about it. I've got until 31/01/2020 to be able to get a full refund but kinda I still like the phone speed, but this network problem and the camera (which is the worst 48Mpixel sensor I've ever tried, but it seems to be a software issue) kills my willingness to keep it. I was also waiting if any new update can fix either of the problems so I guess I'll wait a lil more, but still I can't advice to buy this phone. Xiaomi on the same price level doesn't have any of these major issues even though their chipsets are a little behind.

Wow... Just wow. All these bits and pieces of info are priceless and shocking to me. Thank you. Me too, I prefer the speed of the phone, the battery and ufs file storage, furthermore vooc charging. Amazingly conformable for my hand as well. Overall I'm really in love with it but kind of hate it at the same tine. My major problems are camera and connectivity. Both are extremely crucial when you take a look at a smartphone. Btw even oneplus uses the same sensor as our device. A developer of rm5p guessed that perhaps the difference is using different lens, not the sensors. I'm not sure. Anyway, we know more now at least. It's a start.

They are not similarly priced at all, mi 9 lite was on sale for 45,000 which is much cheaper than xt 54,000, sd712 vs sd710 very slight difference but 9 lite has its own advantages such as better selfie cam.
If you are looking to buy mi 9 lite box pack you can contact me, I can get you a good deal.

I've been researching for the past 2 months and I've narrowed it down to the Poco F2 Pro, K30 Ultra, OnePlus 7 Pro, and Galaxy A71, I would've pulled the trigger on the OnePlus already, had there been a factory sealed one reasonably priced, but....nope still nothing, A71 is the "settle for" option, I FEEL that the Ultra and F2 are the obvious selections, but NOT ONE person can give me a complete compatibility, definitive, "WE GOT YOU" answer without the IMEI #, duh?!. So let me go ahead and buy one blindly and waste $400?? I live in Atlanta, GA, someone please tell me which of the 2 international phones, I like both, will NO DOUBT ABOUT IT, work great? Thank you

Just look up the phone's bands and then look up the bands you use on your carrier. Keep in mind Xiaomi phones tend not to work too good in the US.

The Poco F2 Pro supported bands 2 & 4 for LTE coverage on AT&T while I was in the ATL area.
The K30 Ultra mediatek modem is more suited for China/Asian markets and does not support common US bands.
K30 Ultra bands are as follows:
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G bands 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41
5G bands 1, 3, 41, 78, 79 SA/NSA
Check with your carrier what bands you need supported. K30 Ultra is working great for me on Vodafone in the UK, and I made sure that Vodafone's bands matched this device before purchase.
---------- Post added at 12:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:10 AM ----------
Actually check this out https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/US/xiaomi-redmi-k30-ultra
That indicates that it will /work/ on many US carriers but reception will be poor in some areas.

Loving the F2 Pro, hands down one of the best phones I've ever owned, the only 2 negative's are the refresh rate and compatibility in Georgia, went with Straight Talk as I was denied by AT&T and T-Mobile, which is extremely contradicting because Straight Talk works off their towers, anyways I tried the AT&T sim and horrible signal, T-Mobile I have full bars displaying with LTE, data and text are great, but NOBODY can hear me on a call, best troubleshooting they could come up with, "we usually only deal with Apple and Samsung".....ok.....so it's looking like I'll just use it for a data only phone and get the A51 5G for my business phone, it was worth a shot, thanks guys

Did you try using the dialer codes to enable VoLTE and/or VoWIFI:
VoLTE *#*#86583#*#*
VoWiFi/WLAN *#*#869434#*#*
I had no issues making calls with AT&T while in Georgia specifically the Atlanta and Carrollton areas.
Codes
I put both of those in, each time it said disabled, there's a voLTE box on the top right, does this mean my calls should work now? Obviously I hadn't the slightest idea what I'm doing

Correct, if you see the VoLTE icon in the status bar you should be able to make calls with LTE.

Pixel 5/5a and Verizon 5G c-band eventuality

I just noticed this on Google's website (Google support website link). The Pixel 5 has band N77 in the snapdragon 765G, so I believe Verizon c-band will eventually be on this phone.
I have a Pixel 5,but I'm not going to hold my breath on it ever being Certified for C-band and if you bought it from Google like I did I'm thinking it's even less likely to get Certified.
The Pixel 5 has band n77, but as of right now it isn't activated in the modem configuration (verified with Network Signal Guru).
I had assumed that the Pixel 5 would be enabled for C-band, but I was getting concerned after all of the launch info from Verizon only mentioned the Pixel 6 (Pro). Just found this though, so it looks like we will (eventually) get it with a software update!

They changed it! It definitely had the Pixel 5 in the first list with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Ugh. Not cool.
Well, I've already been poking around with various Qualcomm tools to see if I can enable it. I'll report back if I have any success.

Just checking in. It's not actually working yet, but I do at least have it reporting that it's band 77 capable when communicating with the tower. It still isn't actually able to complete the connection though (NSG shows that it briefly switches to NR-NSA, but then immediately back to LTE), so there's still something else missing in the configuration...
(major caveat: a Pixel 5 with root/an unlockable bootloader is required, which unfortunately excludes the Pixel 5 sold by Verizon)
Got it!!! NSG screenshots attached showing a connection on band n77, all supported NR bands for EN-DC (LTE+NR5G), and a speed test.
I need to do more testing before sharing because I definitely changed way more than necessary, and it'll take me a little bit to figure exactly which of the changes are actually required. But it is definitely doable and I'll write instructions up sometime this week(end)!

Do you know if there is a hardware issue that is preventing our phones from using the C band because we have been approved by the FCC but Verizon said they will not push a software update for C band to our phone.
Hi Fellow Pixel 5 owners. I am saddened by the news that recently was released about our phones. I like RUGGNATION bought this phone because on Google's spec sheet it had all the bands required for 5g in the foreseeable future. I was confident that since it was still getting OS and Security updates they would not abandon it as they did. I have been rocking a Nexus 6 and a Pixel XL for years thanks to the LineageOS project. The Pixel 5 is the first phone I have owned in years that is still currently supported. I was planning on flashing LineageOS when Google's support was over. I was willing to pay a bit more for a futureproofish phone. I am sure a lot of other people thought the same. I am thinking about selling it on SellCell since it would just be easier to get a Pixel 6.
I am curious if anyone has any knowledge, or knows anyone that knows about the tools gwillmer was using when he unlocked his modem to work on the C-Band. I would rather root my phone now and install a solution that all Pixel 5 owners can implement if there is any realistic hope for a reasonably easy solution. I am impressed by the work that the developers do to responsibly keep Android phones working longer than the time the manufacturers support them officially. I keep thinking about using an Apple product but am not sure I want to give up the control over my hardware that this and other developer communities provide in the aftermarket.
Let me know if anyone has any hope that we will be able to use this phone on C Band !

Hey, are you able to share which files in the EFS you changed? There are a number of files under /Google/ such as *_certified_bands.txt files which have lists of bands per network PLMN (MCC-MNC). Then, then, there are the carrier policies.
I've been trying to get this working on the March update, to no avail. I did see in the hardware NR combinations that 66-2_n77 is at least still supported, I just don't know which EFS file is the culprit in enabling them.
Thanks!

I created this guide, and unfortunately it only works for Oxygen OS 11/Android 11, on Oxygen OS 12/Android 12 and newer it does not, after a while the phone adds back the exclusion of N77, I don't know if this is an Oxygen OS "feature" or an Android 12 "feature" I have not figured out a way on how to make it stick, if anyone has any idea on how to fix it, help would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Well I don't know how, but it seems like I enabled N77 (or N78 idk) on Oxygen OS 13/Android 13 I somewhat have an idea of what I did, so I will create a new guide, however, this does require root.
Picture on the left is Engineering Mode, no idea Stock Android has it, picture on the right is Network Signal Guru. I don't know why NSG shows N77 while Engineering mode shows N78.
any update on this whole thing
