Is there a way to assign a long press of the recents button to call up an undisplayed menu button within an app?

Is there any lollipop ROM available where you can change the recents button to 'last app used' short press & long press brings up recents?
In the usr folder then key layout file what do I need to change to achieve changing the long press recent button to perform the menu action? I guess ideally I would like long press home to be recent apps and short press recent to be menu. But which ever is possible. I just need to get a functioning menu button again.
I know the power button can be assigned to pull down the notification panel via a swipe gesture. I was wondering if it were possible to remap that to do "BACK" or "HOME".
