Motorola Xoom LTE with Android 4.4.4 and CM Stingray. Play Store and Drive not working. - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was given a pass along Motorola Xoom LTE with Android 4.4.4 and CM Stingray.
It's pretty sweet, hardware wise, but I'm encountering a pair of serious blockers.
The first is the Play Store not working. I can authenticate and connect to it, but it never properly loads. I just get the spinning circle loading indicator.
The second is likely related to the first. I can connect to my Drive instance, but it never populates. All I see is a message about error retrieving content.
I can download and install apks from FDroid, but can'r install te FDroid Android client. I get an error parsing the file when I try to install the app.
Searching XDA, the Android/CM version I have seems to be the latest update. Is there actually a more recent release,. or is there other replacement firmware I should try instead?
Any suggestions on fixing the issues with the current setup, or recommending a new setup to switch to?
Thanks in advance.

Facing the same issues. Maybe it's because Tegra 2 on Xoom itself.

Late reply, but in case anyone finds themselves here, F-Droid 1.22.1 works with CM11.

[solved]PPX3610 manually installed market, but account&sync is missing.

i have a philips ppx3610 beamer with android.
i wanted to try and make use of a few paid/play store-exclusive apps, but it turns out to be quite difficult.
current status:
Philips ppx3610 pico projector
rooted, supersu installed manually.
android version 2.3.1(official firmware)
20110828 g-apps installed in system, play store listed as "market" and seems to function.
my exact problem is that there seems to be no interface for adding accounts on the beamer.
the .apk that's supposed to handle it is included with the original rom, but it doesn't seem to work at all.
settings is a stripped version with no account settings, and if a google app(gmail/market) tries to call the "add google account" screen it jumps straight back to the app drawer.
there are a few difficulties making it a bit risky/difficult to experiment.
no (touch)screen: everything needs to be done with a usb keyboard or ir remote.
no recovery at all(any brick is unbrickable)
incomplete settings
ancient android version
all reset/power options are handled by software, if it freezes it takes an hour to turn it off.
this device is capable of using the play store, but it was only included in review and internal testing models.
does anyone have an idea how i could safely "restore" accounts&sync, or perhaps have another way to get the play store working?

that video doesn't help much.
I can get the play store installed, my ppx3610 just seems to be missing a component required for adding accounts.
without a Google account the play store refuses to do anything.
FW update
Did you try to update to latest FW? On Philips website you can normally download the latest version
With latest FW the missing components should be installed. Then follow the instructions provided by the video

I already got it working a while ago, but forgot to mention it here.
perhaps I forgot to reboot after my previous attempts.
Google Play Store Latest Version
Well It seems that there is some problem in the version of Google Play Store you have installed it,You can solve this problem by downloading and installing new application of Google Play store,It is quite easy to install a new version of Google Play Store.Just Install and overwrite the already present files.
I'm looking for the firmware update to 2.24 version or newer for ppx3610. Is there someone who has that file?

[APP] UnifiedNlp - FLOSS Wi-Fi- and cell-tower-based geolocation

Introduction
UnifiedNlp is a FLOSS (Free/Libre Open Source Software) tool for geolocating android phones without Google's Geolocation service. It allows apps that use Android's coarse or network locating features to geolocate the phone which is usually faster and less battery consuming then GPS. If you use your phone without GAPPS this might become a useful tool for you.
The real location work is done by backends (plug-ins) that can be configured through the UnifiedNlp UI. There is already a number of backends out there that use data from various data sources, some of them working completely offline.
The same backend technique is used for UnifiedNlp's secondary feature: (reverse) geocoding. This allows apps like the android gallery to convert geo-coordinates to an address, resulting in better user experience.
UnifiedNlp is the successor of NOGAPPS NetworkLocation and part of the microG Project.
Installation
UnifiedNlp comes with official support for Android 4.4 (KitKat) and Android 5.0 (Lollipop). Installation on AOSP-based ROMs for this version is easy:
Make sure that no Google geolocation tool is installed (it is usually listed as Google Play Services in Apps)
Download and install NetworkLocation.apk as a usual app (you may need to enable "Unknown sources" in Settings->Security)
Reboot
If your system is not AOSP-based but GAPPS-free and the above instructions do not work for you, try placing NetworkLocation.apk directly in /system/priv-app/ and reboot.
If your system has Xposed, you can use this Xposed module together with UnifiedNlp.apk
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) through Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) are not officially supported (meaning newer versions of UnifiedNlp are not tested on these platforms). Still a legacy version is published with every release. Android 4.2+ is known to usually work properly, older versions are often not supported by backends and thus can't use UnifiedNlp. Push LegacyNetworkLocation.apk directly to /system/app and reboot to try it out.
Download
Latest stable release: v1.4.0 - Download NetworkLocation.apk - LegacyNetworkLocation.apk - UnifiedNlp.apk
Older versions and pre-release builds can be found on GitHub
Backends
I developed and will support three backends, that you can find on GitHub:AppleWifiNlpBackend, IchnaeaNlpBackend (Mozilla Location Service), OpenWlanMapNlpBackend and NominatimGeocoderBackend
These and backends by other developers are usually released on F-Droid.
If you installed a third-party backend and you're not sure whether the problem is caused by UnifiedNlp or the backend, feel free to write here.
Upcoming/planned features
- Better status information to check whether installation succeeded or not and what steps might be needed
- Backend prioritization and complex rule system
FAQ
Q: It does not work!
A: Make sure you read the installation instructions properly and that locating would be possible using the backends provided. Are you sure you rebooted? Is your system GAPPS free? OK. Now, ask!
Thanks
Big thanks to everyone who continuously supported me doing this, by donating, pull-requests or just feedback. Thanks to backend developers, that made this tool useful. Thanks to Google for leaving a door in Android that makes this possible.

What other apps will be affected by disabling google play services? Want to try this but I have Play services installed.
Thank you very much for this.
Just a note to point out that GitHub's mobile site has no downloads anywhere to be seen if one gets there from a smartphone on default mode, and users might get really confused about it. One has to switch to the desktop site to find the backend APKs.

If you run with play services I guess you installed the complete GAPPS package, including Play Store etc. These either require Play Services or misbehave with Play Services removed or replaced.
However, chances are good that there will be a complete Play Services replacement including UnifiedNlp sometime (sooner or later - no ETA here)

Every APP which requires Google play licensing or the play services. F.e. Google Music
A lot of paid apps f.e. Poweramp will not work
But u are able to download your paid apps in Blank Store f.e. Tasker
Nova Launcher or Atlas Browser and most CM Themes are working fine without gapps even the paid Version.
U can only buy apps on the Play Store Website and you have no option to return the APP.
But if everything is working fine for you then stay with Gapps because it requires a lot of work and knowledge.
But some people like it that way

I see, thanks for the info. I use Nova and Phoenix ROM and just selected a few gapps.
I do use Play Store....well, it's the only app I know where to easily get and install apps from (when searching for an app), other than getting an apk elsewhere which I copy and install manually. What are you guys using? I tried browsing and downloading a few times on my phone but they don't work when installing. Probably I need an installer app on my phone? How do you guys manage these installations via the phone? I'd like this so I don't have to keep attaching my phone to the PC and transferring apks to install. Thanks again.
µg UnifiedNlp works great on Android 4.2.2.
GPS first fix time is faster than Google network location.
Looks like µg UnifiedNlp can save more battery since it's lower wakelock time compare with Google network location.

Wow, this is awesome! It must have been a LOT of work to get this working, let alone making it stable and usable, thank you! Android is really very usable without gapps now.
Also, here are a couple links to anyone interested in using it completely offline: https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=Backend&fdid=org.fitchfamily.android.wifi_backend and https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=Backend&fdid=org.fitchfamily.android.gsmlocation
The wifi backend even updates the local database with nearby APs once it has found a GPS fix, real neat!

I use F-Droid and Aptoide. Aptoide really has a LOT of software, highly recommended. It is a fork of F-Droid if I'm not mistaken, still open source and you can set-up your own repositories.

Thanks, downloaded these 2 apps now. Still reading up on UnifiedNlp. Since nogapps is needed, will I still be accessing gmail and/or google account, w/c is asked by some apps? Sorry for some confusion. Thanks.
I have a question: Is it possible to use UnifiedNlp with a offline copy of the OpenWlanMap database? In their website they provide the database for download, but I see no mention of using it with OpenWlanMapNlpBackend.
LocalWifiNlpBackend is intended to be used with our own database, but can I convert the OpenWlanMap database and use it?

Is it possible to disable Google location services with "My Android Tool" and use µg UnifiedNlp for location service but keep the Google services installed for other purposes (app licenses, ...)?
Exactly what I was looking for; don't want Google snooping around on my phone. Thanks a lot!
One thing though: I am running an unofficial CM11 on my Razr i. Installing your app via F-Droid or directly as an apk fails due to a wrong signature, i.e. UnifiedNlp seems to be installed already - I can't find it anywhere on my phone though...

Ooh I love you! That feature + a device patched to passively scan for Wifi APs = pinpoint the location without emitting any signals whatsoever even if GPS coverage is poor. That's some exquisite stuff, man.
By the way, does µg implement Google Cloud Messaging? It would be fantastic for RedPhone, to get secure(ish) voice comms to our poor iOS using friends.
Been using this across devices since months back.. Happy to see a dedicated thread.. Good stuff.

@MaR-V-iN it's possible to use lacells.db and cells.db both on µg UnifiedNlp and NetLocation just by changing their names. Are these databases compatible between them?

lacells.db is compatible with NOGAPPS NetworkLocation and the gsm backend for UnifiedNlp. cells.db is a different incompatible format. Renaming files will cause problems.

Question F-droid and the Galaxy A326U

Hi I have this galaxy A32 5g here and I installed the F- Droid apk. Installed fine but when I go to download ANY content I get a error I haven't seen before (shown in picture). I go to change the install apps from unknown sources, and it's not there. Every other so I've tried, install apps from unknown sources is there. I have a galaxy S8 that I have no problem using F- Droid on. Anyone else? Any fix. (Can this bootloader really be unlocked) ..
Thanks!

Bootloader can be unlocked depending on your current firmware version to check go to
Settings , About Phone , Software Information and take a look at the build number.
The number in the last characters should be a 1 ,2 or a 3. If its higher then those numbers then there is no current unlock for it

My locked bootloader A326U is on build number 1AUxx. I disabled as much as possible (google & samsung apps & services) before adding a sim card or wifi for the first time. I did the ADB & Developer Options update blocking first so I can unlock the bootloader in the future if new roms are ever develop for it. Would love a GrapheneOS version for it. But it doesn't seem that is a possibility anytime soon.
I was really surprise how much stuff specially google services & the like I was able to Uninstall or Disable outright. Using F-Droid & Aurora Store I've been able to install & use 99% of current apps I was using before on my prior Z981. The only App that has not gotten past the nag about google services after installation has been the Little Ceasers app. Every other app that nags about google services still lets you continue using the app without it. I just silence the google services nag for each app so my notifications stop ringing over an over. I might make a walkthru of what I did later but it was nothing advanced. Just took the time to go thru each app & service & see which it would let me disable or uninstall.
Regarding the app you mentioned. I was just able to install that app from F-Droid it it runs perfectly. No errors. So not sure if the problem might be the wifi, cell or any security app you might have install that might be causing that problem. Installs & boots up perfectly here. I would recommend you redownload & reinstall F-Droid from their main site again.
Btw, I am on F-Droid v1.13.1 version.
I don't know the answer to your question but I do want to mention there are multiple F-Droid app clients that do the same things as does F-Droid, only they're designed to do it much better (using the same repositories as does the F-Droid app).

How to debug AOSP keyboard not swiping?

Hi! I recently installed LineageOS 18.1 nightly on my new OnePlus 8 (instantnoodle). After a few false starts and missteps I have it working and I'm trying to move everything over to it. I quickly discovered that the keyboard doesn't support swiping. I thought LineageOS supported it out of the box on my previous phone (a Moto G running LineageOS 14.1) but after doing some research I see that it requires Google services, namely a specific file called `libjni_latinimegoogle.so`. However, when I was doing this installation, I also installed Open Gapps nano. (Due to https://github.com/opengapps/opengapps/issues/930, I had to disable installation of `Search` using gapps-config.txt.) Indeed, when I shell onto the phone, I see that `/system/lib64/libjni_latinimegoogle.so` is present. And yet swiping isn't working.
How can I figure out what's going wrong? I have some Linux experience but not that much with Android. Are there log messages I should be looking for? When does this `libjni` get loaded? Is this a Oneplus issue? A LineageOS issue? An OpenGapps issue? Where do I even start?
P.S. I know I could install Gboard from the Play store, and I might do that, but I was used to AOSP keyboard and if it ain't broke, why fix it? Besides, where's the fun in that?
If you install a custom recovery or root your phone then you can use this: https://android.stackexchange.com/q...-input-on-fairphone-2-without-google-keyboard to include swipe typing on the AOSP keyboard.
It involves extracting a file from a Gapps package, libjni_latinimegoogle.so, which needs to be put in /system/lib64 (or /system/lib if you have a 32 bit OS). You don't even need to have any form of Google apps (GSF) installed. I just tested it on Android 11 and it works well.
An open source alternative is AnySoftKeyboard which contains swipe typing (or "swyping") but it is quite a bit less accurate since it's not based on machine learning methods. This is an open issue however. It is also taken up in the MicroG project (to create an open source libjni_latinimegoogle.so).

Workaround/solution for Google play services/store on Bliss 14.x.x+

As many of you know, bliss os 14.3 and it's variants usually have mixed results regarding wifi/BT connectivity, depending on your device(s), which in turn makes it nearly impossible to get the most out of the OS in most cases. I can't say for certain that this is a % fix/workaround, but, I wanted to share with you all in case this helps you get your OS up and going to your liking.
By default, Google play services loops or FC's out of the box. So I went out of my way on a working pc to DL from "apkpure" a current/up to date version of said apk, as well as the Play store, FX viewer and chrome. Then, I put them on a trusty usb, xferred them onto the laptop I use with 14.3 currently and just installed them all without running any of them afterwards. Next, I rebooted and then opened the play store and I was able to log into my account and start updating/installing apps as normal. Hopefully, this helps you all out too because I'm loving my laptop now and I'd be glad to help ya'll out too if I can. If someone can recompile bliss os images properly to include out the box current versions of Google service I'd love to hear from ya.
I also updated all apps but the problem still exists.
